DERRY NEVER GOT LOUD, Holly didn't like that. She hated the small shops and the empty streets. Hated the way words echoed in school hallways. Hated that everyone knew everyone. Being in class with the same people from kindergarten was torture for the teen. All she wanted was something big, something loud and different. Everyday felt the same to her, she despised it with all she had. Her father on the other hand reveled in the quaintness of Derry.

The small shops made it easy to control, the empty streets meant that crime was being committed in a more private setting. Being the eldest child of the town's mayor held a weight over Holly's head that made her life misery. Her father had a tendency to equate his success with his daughter's public image. Not too many boyfriends, can't look like a whore. But make sure to have plenty of friends so you aren't an outcast. She got the brunt of it all, his judgements, his commands.

Holly's brother Max, on the other hand...made people scratch their heads when they found out he was also the son of "Saint of Derry," Harrison Macdonald.

Max was nothing like Holly or his father. While his older sister was neurotic about test scores and homecoming court—he was more concerned about not getting a black eye before math class. He and his friends were called the "losers club." Tormented by school bullies and the perpetual joke of the town. Max's family name didn't help him, he didn't use it, didn't flaunt it. Most people didn't even know. His friends didn't understand, sometimes they even used it for him. Eddie Kaspbrak found himself using the Mayor's title often. "Max's dad is the mayor! He'll like exile you if you hurt us!"

The siblings were opposites in every way, yet they did not acknowledge it. Holly didn't understand why her father didn't seem to care about what his son did. Holly couldn't study with friends, go to a party, or join a school club without her father's approval.
Not permission, but approval.

Holly was the picture perfect daughter; Well behaved, smart, hard-working... that didn't matter.

Image was the most important thing. If his daughter had unimpressive friends, made a fool of herself at a party, or joined a useless club—it could look bad for the Saint Of Derry. Though, she couldn't explain how Max ran around town with his friends and her father didn't bat an eye. She resented him for this, but never Max. The thirteen year-old boy got enough trouble from the other kids in Holly's school. Their differences in social standing never thwarted the siblings' love for the other.

One day Holly didn't return from school,
and Derry got suddenly got very loud.

An it 2017 fanfic in the year 2025??? I know insane right?? I've been in this fandom since early 2018. The name of this book obviously references the iconic Billy Joel song, but it also references the first IT fanfic I tried to write in 2018. I would've had a different name, (cuz uptown girl is a quite common fic name now unfortunately) but I just had to keep the title. I'm not 100% sure if I'll include part 2 in this book or not? We will see

This idea was formed all the way back then, I've changed a few things—but the core of it all is the same.
