I TIPPED the beer down my throat as I sat on JJ's knee the sweet taste settling nicely as I swallowed. Around us the small fire John B had made in his back yard illuminated us in the dark sky. It was well into the morning, almost two but we didn't care. We had to celebrate, we couldn't not. We'd just found four hundred million dollars worth of gold in an old axe murderers basement.ย
Plus, I think we were all too excited and hyper to go to sleep right now.
It was nice, the six of us sitting here before our lives changed tomorrow .. as dramatic as it sounded. It was true, after tomorrow we'd be rich and when we went back for the rest of the gold we'd be millionaires. It was a weird that we'd go from nothing to something.
Kie was playing her favourite Bob Marley album softly through her phone and she danced to the sound while holding a half drank bottle of Budweiser. JJ and John B shared a joint and even Pope indulged in a beer himself. It was the type of night I'd been longing for for quite some time now. When John B said this summer was dedicated to having a good time all the time this is what I had in mind.. but I wasn't opposed to finding the missing gold on the Royal Merchant either.
'Is this love' was the song that was playing and I found myself smiling as I watched Kie drag Pope to his feet, dancing with him. He looked almost shocked that she wanted to dance with him but he soon eased into it and the both of them started laughing lightheartedly and smiling. If I didn't know any better myself I'd say I saw twinkle in Pope's eyes, the way he was looking at Kie โ I'd seen that look before.
I stood up, my beer in one hand and JJ's hand in the other. He looked confused when I got up, his brows furrowed, but he soon realised what I was doing when I tugged on his hand.
"No, c'mon Mal." He shook his head.
"Please." I pouted, jutting my bottom lip out, "I know you're secretly dying to dance with me, Maybank."
He grinned boyishly โ charmingly โ and I found my heart fluttering, "I can't dance." He told me.
"I'll teach you." I replied, tugging him to his feet with a smile, "And I might even buy you dance lessons with my cut."
He smiled down at me, resting his other hand on my waist, "I think I'd rather you teach me."
"Great." I nodded I nodded with a grin, "Besides, we need to practice for our coming out at Midsummers next year." I teased.
He scoffed, "Midsummers?"
I shrugged, "I thought we were going full Kook, no?"
He smirked at me and nodded, "To full Kook." He whispered to me. I smiled at him and he twirled me in a circle before we stepped apart and back together. I took another sip of the Budweiser and JJ let go of my hand to take the bottle from me, also taking a drink from it before handing it back to me.
I couldn't help but smile at him, just seeing the joy on his face was enough to keep me smiling. As long as he was happy I would be happy, his smile was enough to put me into a good mood.
Bob Marley's voice filtered through our ears and I found myself thinking, was this love? Was what JJ and I had going love, or the beginning of love? There was a huge part of me that hoped it was, I guess time would tell.
I'd had a couple of crushes in my life, fancies a few tourons here and there but I'd never felt as strongly for someone as I did for JJ. It was almost intoxicating, the feelings I had for him, but I didn't mind โ I loved whatever it was. It kept me on my toes, it made me happy.
"Well guys." John B spoke and I turned my head to see him sat with his arm over Sarah's shoulder โ the both of them were smiling as they watched the four of us dance around our little campfire, "It's almost three and we have a hell of a day tomorrow so I think we're gonna hit the sack."
"We?" I smirked, "Try to keep it down."
JJ snickered in my ear and John B rolled his eyes, "Only if the both of you do."
"Oh no." JJ said, folding me in his arms so my back was resting against his chest, "We don't do quiet."
I smacked his arm lightly as Kie scoffed, "You did not just say that."
"Well, I think I'll take the sofa on the porch." Pope told us, claiming his usual spot. I don't know what it was with Pope and sleeping outside but he seemed to like it and the rest of us didn't. It worked out well I suppose, "Kie can have the pull out."
"Yeah she can." I found myself muttering so quietly that only JJ and I would hear but he sniggered suddenly when he heard me and he buried his head in my shoulder to hide his laughter. The both of us grinned in amusement.
Sarah stood up, her hand locked in John B's and she smiled at us, "Goodnight, guys."
"G'night you two." I bidded and the rest of my friends chimed in their night wishes.
They were the first to head into the chateau and after twenty more minutes or so of dancing and finishing our drinks the four of us headed inside too, leaving the small fire to die out. JJ closed the his bedroom door behind me as I kicked my shoes off, walking around to the other side of the bed. I looked up to see his eyes already on me and the soft light from the lamp illuminated the room, "Everything okay?" I asked him gently, leaning on to the bed with one knee.
JJ nodded, still stood with his back to the closed door and he walked over to the bed. He climbed over his side to me to press his lips to mine. I was taken back by his sudden affection but it didn't take me long to respond. I straightened my back, resting my hands against his chest as I felt the cotton of his dark T-shirt under my fingers.
He took his lips off mine but he remained so close to me and I opened my eyes slowly as his breath fanned my face, "I have an idea." He mumbled softly, his lips curving upwards into a smirk.
I pressed my lips together and looked down to his lips once, desperate to kiss him again, "Is it a good one?"
"I'd say so." He responded, his voice quiet but the mischievous glimmer in his eyes spoke volumes.
I nodded, "Well then I'm all for it."
He grinned and he pulled away from me, "You might wanna put your shoes back on."
"Oh really?" I asked with an arched brow as I watched him climb off the bed, "Where are we going?"
He shooed me off his bed and I complied, standing by it and I watched him pull the comforter off with the blanket, he picked up the pillows and tossed them to me. I caught them easily and he grinned at me, "We need towels."
"Towels?" I asked.
He put his hand on the door handle and smirked at me, "Follow me."
I didn't hesitate before doing just that and I put my shoes on. I walked out of his room quietly as he emerged from the bathroom with two towels over his shoulder and he grabbed my hand. We quietly passed a sleeping Kie and Pope, their light snores filling the room and outside as he led me down towards the dock where the Pogue was docked.
I was intrigued to say the least but I remained quiet and followed JJ and his instructions. He had a clear idea of what he wanted to do and if it was to be somewhat of a surprise to me I didn't mind at all.
"Chuck that on the Pogue." He told me and I tossed the pillows on to the boat, careful not to throw them so hard that they landed in the water. JJ let go of my hand and climbed into the boat, he laid the comforter out across the floor of the bow before putting the pillows and blankets out for us across our friends boat. He stood up, the towels still on his shoulder and he climbed off the boat, taking my hand again and leading me to the edge of the dock.
I looked up at him with an arched brow, "What are we doing?"
"You got something underneath that jumper?" He asked me mischievously.
"Yeah a sports bra." I answered skeptically, "Why?"
"Take it off." He told me.
"What?"
JJ just smirked at me before pulling his own t-shirt off, "Just take it off."
I swallowed watching him and I had a hard time not looking down to his bare chest as he grinned at me. He knew I was resisting to take a look and I pressed my lips together lightly as he teased me. JJ took his shoes off but he left his shorts on and he never took his eyes off me.
"All right." I nodded finally. I slipped my shoes off, leaving them next to his and I took the jumper off and tossed it on the floor โ well aware that he was watching me intently and probably taking the time to check me out. It was JJ, he couldn't resist a peaking glance.
As soon as I had taken my jumper off though, leaving me in my shorts and a sports bra, he pushed me and I fell off the edge of the dock. I gasped in shock as I fell back towards the water. When I broke the surface with a deep breath, my wet hair sticking to my shoulders and back, I saw JJ already in the water. He was dripping wet and grinning mischievously at me, "JJโ!" My voice was high but he quickly silenced me quickly, putting his hand over my mouth.
"Don't want to wake the others up, do you?" He smirked, lowering his hand from my mouth and pushing a lock of hair behind my ear instead.
"So your idea was a late night swim?" I asked him with an arched brow.
"More like early morning." He replied, "And watching the stars on the Pogue."
JJ Maybank romantic, who'd of ever guessed it?
"I love that idea." I replied, wrapping my arms around his neck loosely.
He grinned, his hands sliding to my waist under water and he gripped it tightly, "So are we.. in a relationship now?" He asked me.
I nodded softly, "Yeah, I think we are."
"So that makes you my girlfriend." JJ mused.
His eyes were so enchanting and they held me captive, the deep swirls of blue that mirrored the colour of the ocean. I found it hard tearing my gaze away from his and hearing JJ say those words caused my heart to start beating faster. It caused me to smile brightly. He may not of say the words 'will you be my girlfriend?' but that didn't matter to me because we were doing this our way.
"And that makes you my boyfriend." I replied, running my fingers into his wet hair. My eyes flickered to his lips and no sooner did he lean in and we were we kissing. He caught my bottom lip in between his and he controlled our kiss, our pace โ everything. He was strong and it took my breath away but I loved it. The way he kissed me was something I'd never experienced before and he always left me wanting more. It was like a hidden talent he had โ he drew you in with those eyes and when he kissed you he left you wanting more, constantly coming back to feed your growing addiction.
JJ barley gave me time to respond to our lips connecting before he changed his pace or kissed me again and I tried to keep up with him but I simply couldn't. His pace was too quick and it was designed to keep you on your toes, to leave you feeling breathless and trying to match him.
He was by far the best kisser I'd ever come across, his power just kept me on my toes, leaving me constantly wanting more.
JJ hooked my legs around his waist, his hands on my bum cheeks and with the weightless effect the water had I clung to him effortlessly. Our kisses started to get wilder and he left my mouth, kissing along my jawline to the spot behind my ear and down towards my neck. I loved it and I tangled his hair in my hands, pulling at it gently in response.
"JJโ" I mumbled as he lightly nipped my skin with his teeth. He had one goal here and that was to leave his mark as he assaulted my neck in kisses and love bites.
He started his trail back up to my mouth, kissing along my jaw and up to my lips, pressing a kiss to the corner of my mouth and just wine I thought he was going to kiss me he pulled away from me, that mischievous gleam in his eyes and I found myself trying to catch my breath, nevertheless I met his eyes.
"Have you ever had sex in a boat before, darlin'?" He asked me with a smug grin, his eyes on mine.
I inhaled sharply and every inch of him told me he was being deadly serious. I didn't know how to respond, I was dumbstruck and I hated that he had that effect on me. There wasn't many people who could leave me speechless but he was most certainly one of them, for more reason than one. I forced myself to swallow in my silence and still looking into his eyes I found myself shaking my head, "No, I can't say I have." I finally replied.
JJ smirked at me, very clearly enjoying the way I folded under his words, "Do you want to?"
"I'd love to." I consented before kissing him again,

I woke up that morning in such a state of bliss and no one โ absolutely no one could tear me out of that state. The feeling of waking up to the sun shining down on us, JJ's arms wrapped around me and my back pressed against his chest was a feeling I hoped I'd never get used to. I loved it, adored it even, and it gave me such a sense of security.
I didn't care I was waking up at the crack of dawn, I didn't care I'd only managed to scrape four hours of sleep because waking up next to JJ made it all worth it.
We didn't tell our friends we'd made it official last night โ I'm sure they already thought we were together considering how open we were around them now. Every time I thought back on our night I couldn't help but smile, it was a memory I would cherish forever โ it was special to me. I feel like JJ and I had took another leap together in our relationship and I could tell by the way Kie was looking at us all morning she knew we'd gotten up to something last night.
The six of us were going over Pope's plan and figuring it all out โ apparently he had an epiphany last night in his dream about how we could transport all the gold out of the well under Crain's house.
This was it, once we got all the gold our lives would be different as we knew it and once we pawned said gold we'd recovered last night we could pay JJ's restitution. After that it was home stretch, with the money paid my mom would be able to get him avoid juvie easily.
I was sat inside the minivan with Kie and Sarah, looking at the sheet of paper our plan โ or rather Pope's plan โ had been drawn on to using John B's diagrams of the inside of the well and I studied the drawing carefully.
"It looks relatively straight forward to me." I said to my two friends.
Kie nodded in agreement, "John B said it looked something like this." She pointed to the part Pope had labelled 'gold room' it was separated by a small, thin, tunnel that led to the well.
"So.." Sarah muttered.
Kie traced her finger down the rope Pope had drawn, "That's 50 feet down and they're using 100-feet rope, so I guess this little wagon will goโ" Sarah laughed, "โstraight to the gold room."
"Who drew this?" She asked in amusement.
"Oh my god." I sighed while chuckling, "I was thinking the same but I didn't want to say anything."
"Who do you think." Kie laughed and we looked out of the window to see Pope and John B.
"He can't draw for shit." I laughed.
"Tell me about it." Kie agreed.
Sarah frowned, "Hey, where'sโ?"
"โKie! This better work!" JJ interrupted her, walking over to us and tossing the three gold bars on to the floor, "We can't pawn this is there's a giant wheat symbol on it."
"There he is." Sarah nodded.
Kie bent down and she picked the blow torch up, "It's gonna work." She told him.
JJ grabbed the blow torch Kie and I had been tasked with retrieving and he looked at it, "How the hell did you even get one of these?"
Kie looked at me and so did Sarah and JJ. I smiled in response, "We were on our way to the docks to see if Tommy Nokes โ you know Tommy Nokes?" I began, looking to my friends.
"Isn't he the dude who sells his bosses keggers for half price to minors?" Sarah asked us.
"Yep that's him." I nodded, "Anyways I know he can get his hands on other shite as well if you bargain right with him but we walked passed some dude's truck on the way and low and behold.. a blowtorch."
"So you swiped someone's blowtorch?" JJ asked me, arching his brow.
"Yeah." I nodded.
He grinned and leaned in to fist bump me, "That's my girl."
I shrugged, jumping out of the van and taking the blowtorch from his hands, "Well I leaned from the best."
Kie and Sarah followed me out and Kie took the blowtorch from me, "All right." She said, grabbing the gold bars, "Let's go melt this bad boy down."
"After you." I said to my friend, opening my arm for her to lead the way.
Kie rolled her eyes while smiling and we followed her over to John B's shed. JJ put his arm over my shoulder and Sarah walked besides us, "I hope this works." She sighed.
"Course it's gonna work, Cameron." JJ replied confidently, "Our plans always work."
"Really?" Sarah replied.
"No." I shook my head, "They don't.. actually they rarely ever work. It's quite shocking how bad some of them turn out."
"Way to instil confidence Mal." JJ rolled his eyes.
I just shrugged, "It's not one of your plans so we should be good."
He scoffed in response but he didn't reply because he knew I was right. JJ's plans always went south.
โข โข โข
"I can't believe it actually worked." Sarah muttered in amazement, we were another step closer as John B drove us into town โ heading for one of the pawn shops.
"Hell yeah it worked." I grinned as he pulled to a stop, I took the gold out of JJ's hands and looked at it. So, yeah, it didn't look the best.. in fact it looked terrible but it was still gold and it didn't have the wheat symbol on it anymore.
"Last time you guys ever doubt me and my plan." Kie grinned and she slid the van door open.
JJ took the gold away from me again and held it in his hands as he climbed out of the van, wrapping it in a small towel, "Might've worked but it looks terrible." He said and he turned back to Kie, "Hell of a job melting it down, Dr. Frankenstein."
Kie got out the van, "Like you could have done any better."
JJ held the gold up in the towel as Pope and I climbed out, "I could have." He replied, "I took a welding class."
I furrowed my brows, "You took a welding class?"
Kie squared up, "Well youโ"
"โWhoa, whoa." John B jumped in as Pope, Sarah and I watched the two argue, "Hey, shhh."
"When?" Kie fired defensively.
"Chill out, okay?" John B meditated.
"Easy for you to say." JJ told him, "You're not the one that had to pawn this piece of shit off." He pulled his bag further up his shoulder, "How did I get this job anyway?"
"'Cause you're the best liar." Pope replied simply.
JJ shook his head and pointed towards me, "And Mal isn't?"
I shook my head, "Not as good as you."
It was true, JJ's lying and deceiving skills really were impeccable. It was a skill he had, the amount of times he'd gotten us out of trouble by lying or fabricating some bogus story had surpassed ten easily.
He rolled his eyes and walked into the shop. The five of us followed him in quietly while trying to look as nonchalant as we could. JJ walked over to the pawnbroker as she stood behind the counter and he smiled at her, "Afternoon ma'am."
"Afternoon." The shop assistant replied curtly. She was an older looking woman, maybe in her late fifties and she eyed us all as we scattered throughout the shop. I followed Kie and Pope as Sarah and John B pretended to look elsewhere.
"I see you buy gold." JJ said.
"That's what the sigh says, don't it?" The woman replied and I could tell she was irritated watching six teenagers walking around her shop. She probably thought we were here to try and pull a fast one on her, pawn off a bar of fake gold or a necklace she thought we'd stolen or something. This was going to be like pulling teeth I could just tell.
I followed Kie down an aisle while pretending to look at the items for sale, "Well, I sure hope you buy a lot of it because I'm about to blow your mind." JJ replied.
"I ain't got much mind left to blow." She said unenthusiastically, "So have at it."
I groaned quietly under my breath in between Pope and Kie, "We picked the worst store to pawn this off at."
Kie nodded in agreement and Pope responded, "Actually it was John B who chose it."
I heard JJ put the gold on to the counter, the heavy item clattering as it hit the worktop, "How about them gold apples?"
I watched the pawnbroker chuckle, looking at him as if he was having her on, "That ain't real."
"That ain't real?" JJ questioned her.
"It can't be." She replied in amusement.
"Feel how heavy it is." He offered, "Mm-hm." I watched her struggle to pick it up off the counter, "Here let's get some light on that."
"Do you think he needs help?" Kie whispered to Pope and I.
I shook my head, not taking my eyes off JJ back, "Nah, he's got this in the bag."
"It's spray-painted tungsten." The pawnbroker replied.
Kie looked at me again, "Are you sure?"
I didn't reply. I remained quiet and watched JJ handle it. He was the quickest on his feet out of all of us and he knew how to not crumble under the pressure of lying and conniving. I had full faith in him that he could pull this off.
"Spray-painted tungsten? Really? Okay." He replied, "Why don't you see, uh, how soft it is?"
The woman picked up a small mallet and looked to him with an arched brow, "You mind?"
"No, go for it." He offered. She put a dent into the gold easily, the transition metal crumbling under the pressure it had been hit with, "Wow. Would you look at that?" JJ mused, knowing fine well the gold was going to dent.
"Hold your horses." She told him unimpressed, "We ain't got to the acid test yet."
"Ooo, the acid test." He replied, feigning excitement as he looked to us, "My favourite guys."
We watched in silence until the pawnbroker spoke again, "Well it ain't plated and it ain't painted."
"Ma'am, I'm telling ya', this is as real as the day is long." JJ convinced.
"It looks like somebody tried to melt it down." She replied, unamused.
"Oh shit." Pope swore quietly, "She's on to us."
"Be quiet." I told him as JJ started his reply, "She's not."
"โShe had all this jewellery lying around the house and she thought it was best toโ to melt it down." He fed her a lie about his mom, "To 'consolidate' it."
The pawnbroker dropped the gold into the scales, "Seven pounds?" She asked him with an arched brow, "That's a lot of earrings."
"Okay, to be honest, ma'am.." He cleared his throat, "It's really hard to see my mom fall apart with Alzheimers."
"Mm-hm, give me a minute." She excused herself, walking away into the back of the shop.
"Take your time ma'am." He replied, looking down the counter as he pretended to get emotional โ ten out of ten for acting, I'd give him that. Maybe we should enrol him into drama school or something, I'm sure he'd flourish as an actor.
Once she was gone Pope walked over to JJ and Kie and I followed him, "Alzheimers?"
He shrugged, "Best I could think of."
"God, that's so unbelievable." Kie replied.
"She bought it didn't she?" JJ asked us with an arched brow.
I shook my head, "Debatable."
"Look, justโjust keep doing what you're doing." Pope told him, "Oh, she'sโshe's coming out."
I grabbed Pope's arm and pulled him away from the counter as the pawnbroker re-emerged from the back of the shop, "So I, uh, I talked to my boss."
"And?" JJ asked as she walked round him to her place behind the counter.
"And, uh, this is what I can do." She told him, placing a slip of paper on the counter.
"Fifty thousand?" JJ questioned and I exhaled heavily, fifty thousand dollars was no where near what we'd predicted. In fact it was way off.
"You think I walked in here not knowin' that spot price?" JJ questioned her, "Ma'am I know for a fact this is worth 140, at least."
"Well, sweetie, you in a pawnshop." She replied matter-of-factly, "This ain't Zurich. Do I look Swiss to you?"
"Yeah, we definitely picked the wrong shop." Pope as quietly as he nodded.
"Ninety, or I walk." JJ bargained.
"Seventy." The pawnbroker offered, "Half price.. and um, I don't ask questions about where you got this."
I chewed my lip and watched as JJ fell into silence and I waited to see how he would answer. Seventy wasn't what we were after either but it was a hell of a lot better than fifty. He looked left to John B and since I couldn't see him and Sarah I just had to wait for JJ's response.
"I'm gonna need that in large denominations, please." JJ said to her with a grin and I laughed quietly under my breath in excitement while smiling.
The pawnbroker looked around at us, "Well, here's the snag. I don't have that much denominated, not here anyway. I can write you a cashier's checkโ"
"โ Cash. No, ma'am. I want the cold hard." JJ insisted, hitting his pointer finger on the counter, "That's what that sign says. Cash for gold... and that's what I except. I'm gonna get it in cold hard."
"Well, I'll have to send you to the warehouse. I have the money there, is that all right?" She proposed.
I pulled my lips down into a frown. The warehouse? I wasn't aware pawn shops had warehouses, hell I wasn't even aware there were warehouses on Kildare Island. I'd never heard of someone being sent to a warehouse to collect money for a deal, I don't think it ever happened. The pawnbroker would have the money here, in store, surely otherwise she wouldn't of offered it. If the shop stated you could pawn gold they'd have sufficient funds to pay the seller, everyone knew gold was expensive.
"Where's this warehouse?" JJ asked her.
I watched the woman look at us all one by one and when she met my eyes I rose my head, keeping my jaw tight. When she turned her attention back to JJ she turned to the paper she'd given him the quote on over and picked up a pencil, "You're gonna head for the outskirts and as soon as you pass Jesmond Lane you're gonna take a right.. you follow that road all the way to the bottom and there's a t-junction, you take a left and then it's your third right. That'll take you to Resurrection Drive."
"And that's where the warehouse is?" I asked her, walking forwards to JJ's side, "Resurrection Drive?"
She nodded, "That's where it is."
I pouted, "Funny, I don't think I've ever heard of a Resurrection Drive on the island." I replied. I was somewhat skeptical about this and I wanted this woman to know I was.
"Well, sweetie, I bet that's because you've never set foot on the outskirts." She said, leaning over on the counter pointedly.
JJ took the gold and wrapped it in the towel before putting it back in his bag and grabbing my hand, "Well, it was a pleasure doin' business with you ma'am." He nodded at her.
She nodded back but it wasn't genuine. She just looked thrilled to be getting us out of her store, "I'll call ahead, let them know you're comin'."
None of us replied to her, instead we exited the shop one by one and climbed into John B's van. He and Sarah got into the front while the rest of us got into the back, claiming our usual spots.
John B drove away, driving out to the outskirts when Pope looked around at us with a bright smile, "I can't actually believe that worked."
I nodded, "Well we haven't got the money yet, Pope."
"I know that." He replied, "But for a minute I didn't think she was gonna believe us."
"Doubting my acting skills?" JJ feigned shock and hurt, holding his hand to his chest.
Pope nodded before he deadpanned, "Yes."
"Hate to be the one to say it.." I said to my friends, watching the houses grow spacer and the grass growing longer the further out we drove.
"But you're gonna say it." John B replied, meeting my eyes through the rear-view mirror.
"I have to voice my skepticism as our good friend here said a few nights ago." I said, gesturing to Pope as his words on the night of Midsummers.
"What're you skeptical about?" Kie asked me.
"That this warehouse isn't real." I told them all simply, "I've never heard of a pawn shop that trades gold that doesn't have the money to pay for it in store."
"That's because you've never pawned gold before." JJ said to me.
"And you have?" I questioned him with an arched brow.
He didn't reply to me and John B replied instead, "I'm sure it'll be all right."
I nodded silently as Kie spoke from besides me, "So.. they keep money out here?"
"That's what she said." JJ replied. He chuckled softly to himself and I knew it was coming, "Ha, that's what she said."
"Stop." Pope told him as I rolled my eyes. He could be so immature sometimes.
"I've never even heard of Resurrection Drive." Sarah admitted, turning back to us.
"That's because you're rich." JJ replied to her.
I looked at Sarah and shook my head, "I've never heard of it either." I told her and I put my legs over JJ's lap, "And neither has he so you can ignore him."
"Thank you." Sarah replied to me and I saluted her in response before folding my arms across my chest.
"There's nothing but weeds back here." Kie muttered and I looked out of the window. She was right, the place was basically a wasteland.
"All right, just 'cause it's just weeds doesn't mean it's.. likeโ"
JJ stopped talking when we heard a siren whooping. I pulled my legs off his lap and turned in my seat to look out the back window. There was an unmarked car behind us, it's lights flashing in the window.
"Cops?" Kie questioned, looking to us all, "Out here?"
"The fuck?" I murmured.
"God!" JJ exclaimed in frustration, "Are you kidding me?"
"What did we do?" Sarah asked us, this was clearly her first time being pulled over.
I got up and walked over to John B as best as I could in the van, looking over this shoulder, "JB are you speeding again?"
"Does it look like it?" He replied to me and pulled the car to a stop, "Why are we getting pulled over?"
"JJ, stash the gold." I told him, going back to my seat as he put it in is bag.
"Chill guys." Kie told us.
"I hate cops." JJ grumbled, shoving the gold into his bag aggressively.
"Did you bring the gun?" John B asked him.
"No. Okay?" He replied, "Everybody told me to leave it back at the place."
I arched my brow at him, "For a good reason."
"Thank god." Kie said, "Please, put everything else in your bag."
"I am, I am." JJ responded, trying to get everything in and Pope slipped off the chair to help him.
"Christ." I muttered while watching them.
"How much weed do you have on you, bro?" Kie asked him.
"He's walking up." Pope muttered.
Sarah looked to her boyfriend in panic, "John Bโ"
"JJ, stash it, right now." He told him and I watched JJ stand up and lift his chair, putting his bag into the small hidden space we had for these types of emergencies.
We continued mumbling to ourselves and John B turned to look out of his open window and when I heard a gun cock I froze in my seat, my eyes going wide and my heart skipping a beat.
