The Cat, The Bat, and the Rose

Y/N waved a hand through his air, while looking himself in the mirror that was propped up on his desk. Dawning the cape of Batman was not the only reason he had returned to Gotham, there was also the matter of Wayne Enterprises. If Y/N had not intervened, then the Roman would've used his vast wealth and power to install a puppet figure head in the CEO position. Y/N wouldn't let his father's company become corrupt and tarnished much like other parts of Gotham. The boring, mundane life of a CEO was starting to get to Y/N. While it was certainly a busy life, it seemed to be constant repetition, meetings, calls, meetings and more calls.

On top of the constant repetition, day after day. Carmine Falcone was practically insisting on meeting Y/N, and the late twenty year old was doing his very best to avoid meeting the Godfather of Crime. He knew what the Roman wanted, use Wayne Enterprises as a shell to help launder his money. He nagged Bruce about it, and he'll do the same to Y/N.

And at the current moment, Y/N was currently dealing with one such board members who was in the Roman's pocket.

"What I'm saying Mr L/N, with all due respect. Is that LexCorp has invested heavily into their meta-human research facility and I highly suggest Wayne Enterprises do the same" a voice rang out from the meeting that Y/N's desk phone was in. Thankfully it wasn't a video call, as the businessman on the other head would be able to see how bored Y/N actually.

"And in response to that, I will say my father believed that S.T.A.R Labs was the best choice for Wayne Enterprises meta-human branch and I intend to uphold his beliefs" Y/N responded, leaning back in his chair. "LexCorp, is only beginning to tap into their meta-human research, while S.T.A.R Labs are decades beyond anything they're capable of over in Metropolis, or Keystone, or wherever Lex is" Y/N needed to play the part. The snobby, millionaire who had just inherited a billionaire dollar company on a silver plater. "What I can assure you is that I hear your complaints, and will take them into consideration at the next board meeting".

"But Mr L/N if I may-"

"Apologies Mr Powers but I have to go, I have a booking at The Ocelot that I must be getting to. As you know that was my father's favourite restaurant in all of Gotham" before Powers could get another word in, Y/N hung up on the corrupt businessman, pretty much slamming the phone down. Thunder rumbled outside as rainfall began, luckily Y/N was currently stationed in his home office. While slightly cramped, the more homey atmosphere made the long hours pass by quicker than he originally thought they would.

Y/N was living out of a rather fancy apartment located in upper Gotham. Without Bruce, without Alfred, the mansion just seemed.......dead, quiet. Like it had lost a vital part to it. It seemed pointless to live in such a manor, without anyone to live in it with him. So Y/N had decided to move into an high end apartment. Master bedroom, office space, small personal gym, etc. Fit in perfectly with the rich kid aesthetic he was attempting to put on.

But, as daylight was fading and the dark clouds were soon rolling in, and the rain growing heavier, Y/N knew it was time to close up for the day. Switches were turned off, pre recorded party messages were inputed onto his personal and mobile phones. Leaving said devices near his bed side for good measure. Y/N then took the lift down into car park below, where his many cars were waiting for him. While many were your classic sports cars, there was that stood out.

It wasn't particularly memorable, looked more plane and average, which was exactly the point. Since the Belfry was across town, getting there would be a major problem. So Y/N devised that a particularly plane looking vehicle, although with blacked out windows, would arouse suspicion from the authorities, paparazzi looking to snap pics of the grieving son, and even criminals would judge it as not worth it. Plus since Y/N would only drive it during the evening and early morning during the dark, no one would care about blacked out windows.

Quickly arriving at the Belfry, Y/N took the old rusted elevator upwards. Although old, Bruce had made sure the Belfry had top notch security, facial recognition so the tech would automatically work, reinforced steel on the doors, and a constant security camera feed accessible by any member of the Batfamily via a private server and so on. Suiting up, Y/N rotated his shoulder slightly, the wound from a week ago was still fresh, thankfully it wasn't too deep but it still hurt like hell. The Batsuit had been repaired mostly, and Y/N had done his best of his abilities. And as he readied himself, he made his way to the nearest city rooftop to survey the city.

The rain was pouring down, hitting the leather of his cowl and bouncing off. There was a siren blaring in the distance, ambulance, not the cops. Batman looked around, scanning the rooftops, the watcher of Gotham felt like he was being watched. The rain was blurring his vision ever so slightly, but in the far off distance Batman was sure he saw a feminine figure looking directly at him.

Slim waist, an all leather outfit, perky little cat ears with advanced eye goggles to accompany them. And a whip that was wrapped teasingly around her neck as she made eye contact with the new Dark Knight.

Selina Kyle, Catwoman

An old fling of Y/Ns one would say. During his Robin days she went by 'Catgirl' and during his solo patrols, the the two would sometimes find each other working with each other. And that would end with her playing him someway, shape or form getting away with whatever she was originally trying to steal. And when Y/N left Gotham, Selina mysteriously slowly stopped committing crimes. Leads by Bruce suggested she was starting back up again, and this was clear evidence.

Her eyes were locked with Batmans, she maintained a smirk throughout the brief stare down. Slowly Catwoman removed the whipped from around her neck and attached it to her side, she slowly began to walk away, the walk turning into a jog and that turning into a full time sprint. Batman narrowed his eyes, knowing what this meant, she wanted him to follow her, and that he did.

Both masked individuals ran through the rooftops of Gotham City. As Catwoman leaped from rooftop her rooftop, her leaps were almost angelic, perfect, maintaining her composure in the air and with her landing. She looked back, still holding that teasing signature smirk that Y/N remembered from all those years ago. As Catwoman looked back, she made sure that Batman was still on her trial. As he leaped from one rooftop, Catwoman went back to running. The rain was making the rooftops slippery for any normal person, but these weren't any normal people. Batman tumbled as he landed, rolling and soaking his suit even further. The armour was clunky, he needed to slim the suit down.

'Bruce would have had a better suit, Bruce would have caught her by now' the voice whispered in Y/N's head as Catwoman leaped off onto another rooftop.

Batman stopped for a moment, looking downwards at the Cat themed burglar who was on a lower rooftop. She looked at the Bat, raising her hand and faking a yawn while maintaining eye contact.

Seeing the challenge, Batman backed up to get a running start. Sprinting forward Batman managed to make the quite large gap, but once again, the weight of the armour took its toll and once again stumbled and rolled along the smooth surface.

"Your equipment's weighing you down" Catwoman stated, looking down at Batman that glint of glee visible in her eyes.

"Why are you running?" Batman yelled as he managed to push himself to his feet as Catwoman took a few steps back. His legs shook ever so slightly as he raised himself to full height.

"Fun" was all Catwoman said. "You could use a little fun, you used to like having a lot of it" Selina said, looking beyond the masks looking at Y/N, not Batman to which he narrowed his eyes. She took off once again, running towards a nearby building with scaffolding attached to it. Unsheathing her claws, Catwoman dove straight forward with her clawed hands raised. The Claws of the Cat dug into the wall, and while she did slip down slightly. Batman watched as Catwoman flipped onto some nearby scaffolding, and then swiping a ripe and holding onto it. The rope was elevating some stone slabs, and as it was cut it sent Catwoman racing upwards and she continued to scale the building.

Batman saw an opportunity and reached for his grapple gun and fired it upwards towards the upper section of the under construction building. Batman quickly passed Catwoman and he pulled himself onto a platform right above the feline.

"Need a hand?" Batman offered, as Catwoman hung onto the edge with her claws dug into the side.

Catwoman seemed to think about the offer only for the briefest of moments, then looked up at the Bat. "Nah" was all she said, letting go and startling Batman as she plummeted towards the rushing city below. Batman aimed his grappling towards, hoping for the hook to catch Catwoman. Much to Batmans surprise however, a sudden train came speeding by, with Catwoman landing stylishly on it. Looking up with that smirk.

Changing the aim direction of the grapple gun, Batman fired it and it wrapped around a gargoyle with the vigilante swinging downwards. Double clicking the gun, Batman used his cape and glided across the city towards the speeding train. Once again the armour was getting away, and Catwoman could only watch as Batman landed slid across the metal roof of the train appearing to go over.

Catwoman gasped, her smirk falling and stepping towards the spot Batman went over. Her smirk returned however, when she saw two black gauntlet hands pull themselves upwards and Batman quickly followed, slugging his body fully onto the train. The train was traveling close to the docks, and Catwoman knew this. Once again she leaped upwards and onto a nearby building rooftop, landed, and simply waited for Batman to follow. And that he did, as Batman landed in front of Catwoman, and quickly grabbed. His hands grabbing ahold of her arms and pinning them to her slim waist. With a mean look Batman pulled Catwoman towards him, hoping for answers.

"Got you exactly where I want you" Catwoman said, looking down at the shipping dock below and what it was labelled.

"Falcone" Batman whispered seeing the dimly lit building. As soon as he saw the name, Batman clicked a button on his utility belt which sent a signal to one of his new friends.

"Wait till you see what's inside" Catwoman said with both animal themed vigilantes slowly making their towards the building. This seemed, familiar. Although it's been years since the two had worked with each other, at this moment it seemed as if they'd never stopped.

Inside the warehouse, was money. Piles, piles and piles of money. Stacks of green bills covering from corner to corner, must have been over a million dollars in this warehouse alone. While Batman pulled a bill from the pile and shined a light through it, Catwoman lay atop one of the piles, purring as she threw some dollars into the air and letting them flow all around her.

"I would ask if you've ever seen this kinda money, but we both know you probably have. Right Money Bags?" she smiled, rolling over so she could watch Batman.

"How do you know, I'm who you think I am?" Batman asked, playing coy as he his light shined  through the bill ensured it was authentic.

"Please Money Bags, I recognise those lips anywhere" Catwoman said as her hand grazed over the stacks of cash. Money Bags, that was her little pet name she had for Y/N when the two were in private. Of course during long stake outs, dealing with killer masked assassins, drug addicted criminals and weird polka dot themed villains, she was going to find out eventually.

"The money's authentic, you haven't taken any for yourself" Batman stated as he placed the bill back in the stack.

"It's so crisp and clean" Catwoman lowly moaned closing her eyes. "How do you know I haven't taken a few thousands for myself?".

"Because I know you Selina" Batman stated, looking up at the cat burglar. "And this money is anything but clean, actually it's incredibly dirty, Falcone has been struggling to find ways to launder his cash for some time. Just didn't know where he was stockpiling it. Thank you" Batman said. "This will strike a blow to the Roman's Empire" he added.

"I'm happy to help" she said, stretching out a leg before kicking herself up. Catwoman gently dropped downwards, standing around a meter away from Batman. "I'm sorry, about Bruce" she said sincerely, looking down at at the floor then back up at Y/N. "He was a good man" she added, placing her right hand on the Bat sigil on the mans chest. Even through layers of armour, Selina was able to hear Y/Ns heartbeat, and its calming beating.

Batman looked down at the Cat, seeing that this was one of the moments where she was being genuine. "He was more than that, he was our World's Finest" he corrected. Both Bat and Cat rested their foreheads against one another, this felt.....nice.

'Too close' that voice whispered into the back of Y/Ns head. 'She's too close, Bruce never let criminals get close. Bruce wouldn't trust their type, Bruce wouldn't need the help of criminals' the voice continued.

Catwoman opened her eyes, she could see the paned expression on the mans face and grew concerned. "Y/N" she whispered. "You know you can-" before Selina could continue she noticed a figure approaching in the distance. "Get down!" she shouted, running towards this figure which was shrouded in darkness. Catwoman flipped around the figure, using her agility to instantly get behind the person and pin them to the ground. "Take it from me pal" she said shoving his head into the ground. "Around here, curiosity can get you killed" she added.

"Let him go" Batman said, taking a step forward.

"What? Why?"

"Because he's with me" Batman stated, the man in fact being Harvey Dent. "Also because he's the DA who put all your friends in Arkham a dozen times" he added as Harvey picked himself up and dusted off his suit.

"We got room for one more" Harvey grumbled. In response Selina gave a cat like hiss and flipped upwards onto a pile of cash.

"Anyone follow you?" Batman asked.

"Not that I noticed, I could barley follow these coordinates. Next time made using a map" Harvey complained showing that his phone displayed coordinates that led him to the warehouse.

"Need to be sure, any common thug got hold of those coordinates. They'd have no idea what to do with" Batman said deactivating his transponder. Harvey chuckled at the little joke, it was true. Your average Gotham City Thug barley knew how to aim down the sight of a gun, let alone figure out what coordinates are.

"Falcone Imports has been doing quite a business" Harvey commented, looking at the stacks of cash. The DA then picked up a few bills, inspecting them. "You know, if we were any other men...." he suggested.

"We're not" Batman stated harshly.

"Yeah, no, of course" Harvey replied, looking away and placing the cash back.

'He's tempted, he'll betray you. Bruce never needed this kind of help, dealings with criminals and the DA office. What kind of Batman do you think you are?' the voice slithered into Y/Ns mind again.

"So, what now?" Harvey asked.

"We should call Gordon, have his men pick this up as evidence" Batman answered.

"Falcone owns the mayor, and the entire cit assembly" Harvey pointed out. "It'd be back in his coffers by tomorrow" he added.

"So the only way to make an impact, is to make it disappear" Batman came to the conclusion, knowing it would involve a few more rules being bent than Gordon might be comfortable with.

"Yea but look at all this. Moving it could take days" Harvey argued.

Seeing a moment, Catwoman leaped downwards and began walking towards the two men. "Well, who said anything about moving it?" she then reached into one of her boots and pulled out a single match.

"Why are you trying to hurt Falcone?" Harvey asked with narrowed eyes and arms crossed.

Catwoman smirked once again, "Why are you?"

"Nothing personal sweetheart, it's justice" Harbey noted.

"Sometimes justice can be personal-" Catwoman then got in Harveys face. "Sweetie" she said with the slightest bit of spite. "I'm giving myself a head start" she said walking away. "I don't want to get caught anywhere near here" she said, holding up the match once again.

"I don't know, Gordon says I'm supposed to work in the light" Harvey said looking at Batman.

"Then light it up" Catwoman remarked flicking the match over to Harvey, she then began to walk away again.

"Cat" Batman said, calling out to her. Using that same nickname he used all those years ago. "I owe you one" he added sincerely.

"You owe me a few hundred thousand" Selina smirked, running then flipping her way out of the warehouse.

"I can't really be a lawyer and a criminal, can I?" Harvey asked, looking down. "I want to win. But do I wanna win like this?" he asked, now looking at the match. "I'm of two minds here".

"So it's a coin flip" Batman noted to which Harvey knew what he was talking about.

Harvey reached into his inner pocket, pulling out a coin which both sides had a head. The DA would often use this when he wanted to 'make a decision'. It was mainly when he wanted an excuse to embrace that darker side every man held within themselves.

"Yeah, I guess it is" Harvey said, his voice showing almost like he enjoyed the suggestion.

"Heads, it all goes down in flames" Batman suggested to which Harvey nodded back.

10 minutes later the whole warehouse was burning. The stacks of cash turning into ash as emergency services rushed towards the scene. The fire could be seen for miles, but what people failed to notice was the DA and Caped Crusader escaping. The latter having called his make-shift Batcycle and making his way back to the Belfry.

(Picture this as Batcycle)

As the rain continued to pour, Batman powered through knowing this would scare off any would be criminals for the night. This fire alone would be a symbol. If Falcone could be a target, anyone could be. But as Y/N drove through the rain, that voice returned once again.

'You made a mistake, this will be your downfall. Bruce never brunt buildings down, Bruce never-'

"Shut up" Y/N whispered to himself through gritted teeth. "Please shut up"

It was 4AM and Y/N had only just returned to his apartment and he was exhausted. He would need to be up in 4 hours to attend another damned meeting. As he ripped off a black t shirt which reeked of sweat, shifting through the many recordings on his personal cell phone. Many of them were from people checking in, Steph, Kori, Roy, Jon, but there was one number labelled as 'unknown'. This peeked Y/Ns interest somewhat, as he didn't really give out his personal number willy nilly, so he clicked playback;

"Hey Y/N, sorry for this phone call don't know if you even remember me. It's Pamela Isley, we dated way back in college. I saw that you were back in Gotham, and with all the news about your dad. (Sigh) I was just checking in, seeing if you're alright. I know you've probably seen me in the news over the last few years for some of the" there was a brief moment of pause. "Stuff I did, but I'm a changed woman. Let me know if you wanna meet up sometime, just want to make sure you're holding up fine" the message ended.

Y/N blinked, looking at his phone. Part of him just wanted to delete it, the voice began whispering of all the bad things Pamela has done, all the crimes she's committed. But against his better judgment, Y/N slowly began to type out a reply.

Hope you all enjoyed this chapter,

Apologies for if Y/N and Selina's reunion was a little disappointing. Went through a few different drafts of how to go about it, one adapted the first meeting scene from The Batman, one adapted the scene from the Long Halloween comic. But I think the slightly changed movie scene works better. Also hope you're all enjoying Y/Ns imposter syndrome, gonna be seeing a lot of that.

See You Next Time
