05 | Chris and the stupid teenagers.
"Hey, nerd. just stop with your stupid guitar, it's a trip, not some boring-ass music class." Mellisa taunted me, rolling her eyes and everyone laughed agreeing with her.
"Whatever," I mumbled and packed my guitar in its case before getting up from the stone curb.
As expected, our team won the trekking competition, all credits to the over-enthusiastic Brianna. So, everyone was chilling around the fire while the team that lost was preparing dinner.
I walked towards my tent to keep my guitar when I heard running footsteps towards me but before I could fully turn and understand, out of nowhere a hard force knocked me from behind over to the ground, making me land flat on my face.
"What the frack dude!" I exclaimed, pushing the heavy body away from me, which was laughing uncontrollably.
"Oh, man! We're sorry, we were just playing." Andy cackled, barely composing himself, and got up from the ground, before giving me a hand. I clutched his hand and got up too, wiping off the dust from my dark green sweater, making sure it won't get dirty. After all, it's my favorite sweater.
"Did you say frack? Frack!" I heard a familiar deep voice, I looked sideways to see a guy with long dark brunette hair laughing like a maniac clutching his stomach, with his gray eyes barely opened.
Stupid stupid Ethan!
They both were laughing hysterically at me, as they tried their best not to fall on the ground. I just looked at them with a straight face and my arms folded in front of my chest.
Frack is a cute substitute for the curse and yet gives the same meaning.
These kids won't understand.
"Yeah, so what?" I rolled my eyes in annoyance and picked up my guitar which fell on the ground, dusting the case with my hands.
"We are what, In third grade? Frack!" he taunted in between his laughter. It's not even that funny, and they're still laughing like little kids. He's saying I'm the kid here, huh.
"Yeah laugh all you want," I said in annoyance and started strolling towards my tent, which was barely a meter away. It's my wish whatever I say, why do they care?
I got into the empty tent and placed the case near the cluster of bags. I let out a breath, to be honest, it's not new, these kids have a habit to make fun of anything and everything. I rolled my eyes when suddenly the zip of the tent opened, revealing Brianna wearing a cute black sweater and blue ripped Jeans.
She gave me a huge smile and stepped into the small tent holding a Polaroid camera, I looked at her with confusion but before I could say something she clicked a picture.
"What, wait-" I shrieked, hiding my face in my palm but it was too late. She was already laughing while the picture slowly came out of the camera.
"Aw, you look cute Chrissy." she giggled, handing me the little glossy picture. I glanced at the picture of me with my mouth half opened with my eyes squinted like I've seen a ghost while my body was in a weird posture.
"I look like a stupid idiot," I whined at the picture but before I could throw it away she jumped and took it from my hand.
"What are you doing with this Polaroid anyway?"
"I'm creating memories," she squealed and kept the little picture in a diary, I chuckled at how cute and childish she looked.
Brianna, I love her as my sister just like Summer. Given they're best friends since grade two, I and Brianna started hanging out too. She's been a wonderful friend, with her bubbly and caring nature she never fails to make us smile. You can say she's the mom of the group, the one who always thinks and loves too much. Maybe that's the thing about her, positive vibes.
"Chrissy, come on there's a party in the woods, I heard it's amazing!" she exclaimed with her eyes widened, clenching my hand and dragging me to go with her.
Ugh, how many times do I have to tell her that I hate parties? I mean what's the point? Spend so much money on liquors and arrangements, just to dance, get wasted, and wake up with a hangover and solid headache?
Who will call you smart?
I rather spend all that money on Pizza and that time binge-watching Netflix.
"Brianna, what's the point-" I started but she cut me off by rolling her eyes.
"I don't wanna hear your old silly excuse about money, hangover, and shit." she groaned, shaking her head in negation, and turned around to leave the tent. I shook my head at how even after repeatedly telling them this, they still don't listen to me.
"Okay, fine. Let's do something fun then... like, board games?" I suggested raising my eyebrows. She turned around and groaned, closing her eyes and throwing her head back.
"Scrabble?"
"Chrissy, bye! I'm taking Summer with me, we'll be back by midnight. If your mom calls and asks about her, tell her she fell asleep and can't talk. I'll see you tomorrow," she said in a single breath before leaving the tent.
I let out a small chuckle, wow, I am that boring.
I took out my phone and randomly scrolled through Instagram, tons and tons of pictures of this trip were already covering my whole feed of everyone clicking pictures together, eating smores, and whatnot. Wow, these guys are having real fun and what am I doing? Sitting in my tent alone like a boring idiot.
I sighed and stepped out of the tent, the whole area was almost silenced, there were just a couple of kids sitting around the fire, except them there was not a person in sight. Everyone is at that useless party?
Teenagers are really stupid.
Excluding me obviously.
Hah.
I plugged in my earphones and took a walk and wandered around for a while, observing the beautiful creations of mother earth. Keeping sure that I don't go too far and get lost in the dark. Dark lush greenery covered me as far as my eyes could see. The soft cool breeze flowing slowly, softly hitting me plus the soothing song playing in my ears made me very relaxed.
Being alone feels great, sure. I'm not gonna lie, but I'm bored being alone. Usually, people don't hang out with me because I'm such a nerd. Yeah, I accept it, I can't change who I am. But no matter how much I show that it doesn't bother me, I do feel alone and crave some attention. It sucks to have no one to spend time with.
When I look around everyone has someone to hang out with. Look at my sister, she has Brianna, they both do everything together and they're happy with it. Even though Summer tries to spend time with me, I don't let her. I know she just does that to make me feel better and less alone. She's very well aware of how I suck to make friends.
I love her, having a sister like her is great. Who can tell that we used to hate each other for more than a year when our parents broke the news about marrying each other. Her mom and my dad were childhood friends. Things started for them when Summer's parents got divorced and they moved to the same neighborhood as ours. Then they often started coming over at Christmas, Thanksgiving and gradually at every celebration, big or small.
Even though I always liked her mom, I despised Summer with all my heart, even though I knew nothing about her. It's funny how I used to lock myself into my room just so I don't have to see Summer whenever her mom came over. We used to bicker on every little thing. She even changed her subjects in her freshman year, so she doesn't have to share classes with me.
Chrissy the prissy.
She used to call me by that name, it's really funny if you think about it-
"What the fuck are you doing here?" A deep voice startled me, making me jump at the sudden noise, interrupting my thoughts.
Two pairs of eyes were staring at me, Ethan and a boy with light auburn hair were standing by the trees without T-shirts.
No...wait?
Their arms were wrapped around each other and they were half-naked. Their lips were red and a bit swollen, with a light shade of pink covering their cheeks while their mouths were wide open, panting for breath.
Hmm?
Oh. My. God.
"Oh shit. Ethan, I gotta go," The boy said, quickly wearing his shirt back and running away, back to the camps. I stood there dumbfounded, as I wasn't able to understand just the frack just happened.
Ethan and that guy making out!
"For duck's sake Chris!" he groaned, his gray eyes closing as he put his hand on his forehead.
Wait, he said for duck's sake?
That's when I realized my earphones were still plugged in and the music was blasting in them at a high volume. I quickly removed the headphones, and suddenly my eyes darted towards his perfect torso.
His abs were so well built, it seemed like he just stepped out from a fitness magazine. His hair which was quite long and almost reached his neck were drenched in sweat and sticked messily on his face. His tan skin looked flawless and smooth but he cut the moment short as he covered it with a plain black T-shirt. Making me realize I was staring at him with my mouth open.
"I could use a couple of compliments if you like to appreciate what you see," he smirked, his gray eyes shining in the dark as he looked at me.
"Do I look like someone who seems interested in you or your stupid talks?" I scoffed, looking away. Why was I looking at him in the first place?
He chuckled and walked towards me, I felt my heart pounding against my chest, as my eyes trailed his movements. He came near me and leaned in a bit, I gulped and froze at my place.
"Your face says otherwise," he whispered in a low tone before crouching and picking up his jacket which was lying on the ground next to me.
"Please." I rolled my eyes and he just chuckled with a shrug "I didn't know you were gay."
"Really? I thought everyone around the school knew." he shrugged like it was not a big deal and started walking towards the camping area.
"Whatever," I mumbled, plugged in my earphones, and started walking in the opposite direction.
"Yo, you not coming back?"
"No, I'm continuing my walk."
"Oh, then I'm walking too," he said with a shrug and ran up to catch my speed of walking. I switched off my earphones and kept them in my pocket. We continued walking in silence.
"Don't tell anyone about Tim," he said, breaking the silence. I raised my eyebrow at him in confusion, who's Tim?
"The hot boy, auburn hair? Green eyes? Making out with-" he explained doing hand gestures.
"Yeah, yeah I got it." I rolled my eyes, indicating him to stop as the image flooded my mind again. I don't know why but I felt a weird feeling whenever he mentioned them kissing.
What the frack is wrong with me?
Ugh.
"Keep rolling your eyes, maybe you'll find your brain there." he snickered, fiddling with the piece of a twig in his hand while his lips curled into a playful smile.
"Huh? Excuse me?" I scoffed, stopping, and looking at him with my eyebrows raised.
"Yeah?" he shrugged his shoulder innocently and I rolled my eyes.
"I'm the smartest of all of you." I brag and he just smiled paying the least attention to me.
"Says the one who lost a scrabble game against me," he commented and my eyes go wide. He glanced at my expression and his lips curl up into a huge smirk before he started walking again.
Ughh!
I wanted to punch this guy right in the face, but I controlled myself and started walking too, trying to ignore him.
"Hey... Chris," he called but I ignored him just walking through the trees, I think we've come very far. We should go back or we'll get lost in the dark, oh that's not a pretty thought...
"Yo, Chris you ignoring me?" I heard him chuckle followed by a loud thud. I turned around to follow the noise and saw him lying on the ground groaning as his leg got caught in some broken trunks of trees.
I laughed at his stupidness as he tried to get up from the ground, I lend him a hand and he grabbed it before standing up.
"Frack, these trees," he muttered, rubbing the wet mud off his jeans and I just looked at him with my eyebrows raised.
Are my earphones still plugged in?
No, they're not.
Did he just say frack?
"You just said frack?" I asked, a small smile playing on my lips and he shrugged.
"I think it's cute. Just like you." he grinned, rubbing the cape off his neck. I felt a weird sudden flow of blood in my cheeks and I looked down at the ground, not saying anything.
What is happening?
And did he just say I'm cute?
"And, Uhm... I'm sorry about earlier. I was being a bit rude." he mumbled, biting his lips, as his gray eyes bored into mine. I wanted to look away from his eyes, but I couldn't it was like they were hypnotizing me. I didn't even realize how close we were standing.
"Uhm... We should-Uhm... Get back to the camps..." I stammered, not able to compose a simple sentence before finally breaking the eye contact, and looked down at the ground.
"Yeah... Yeah." he cleared his throat, backing away a bit, and turned around, taking small steps and walking back towards the direction of the camp.
My mouth went super dry while I just stood there, not able to process any of what happened right now. We were standing too close, why were we standing this close? And what's this odd giggly feeling in my stomach?
Why am I acting so weird all of a sudden?
What is happening to me?
