Bussiness Trip
Y/N's POV
I appeared in a different location, everything was different from where I was before.
The air was heavier but also more liberating than the one in the TVA. People with different outfits walked in what I could call street, high buildings on my surroundings almost reached the sky, while signs were all written in a foreign language I couldn't understand.
It was so much information, so much to see, and being there, just living that moment made me had an excitment feeling inside of me.
But I was so distracted that I barely noticed when a huge, metallic thing was moving fastly in my direction. I didn't have time to react, I didn't know what to do.
I closed my eyes preparing for the impact when something embraced me and threw me out of the way.
When I opened my eyes I was on the sidewalk, the iron thing moved following its' destiny, while I was safe on the ground.
Just then I realized.
With protective arms around me, I could recognize who it was.
The white hair indicated that his head moved, and I could see him now, his face turned to mine, had an instable breath because of the action, while seeking something into my eyes
-Did you get hurt?-Mobius asked while I still processed what just happened.
-...Yes...-I muttered, then realized that he was still hugging me and people were starting to notice while they passed by.
He got up and standed his hand for me to get up, I didn't accept and we both looked at the timepad on the ground.
Our hands reached for the device at the sane time but I was faster, took it and ran away.
-WAIT!-He yelled running after me.
I started to take any traject I could, anything that could make him loose my sight, even thought at the same time I was getting lost in that concrete jungle.
There was so many people and none of them speaked in a way I could understand. They moved fast, busy for sonething I didn't know, all syncrocinzed in a movement to walk with their heads to the future, ignoring their surroundings as a crazy girl like me passed by.
I passed through many sort of stores, they all selling different types of products, like clothes or food, my stomach growled by the sight of the last one, but I had nothing of value to obtain some. I actually didn't even know what was their money name.
I had no idea of where I was, I could see some smoke in the sky, some kids passing and playing with superheroe toys. They seemed all to be from Earth, maybe that's where I was. Maybe I achieved my goal.
-Um excuse me miss-I reached to speak with a woman.
-私は今あなたと話すことができません。 私は忙しいんだ.-She answered and I couldn't understand any of the sounds she reproduced with her mouth. She just walked away as I standed there like an idiot, lost in so many movement and life around me.
The city ressounded in my ears, I lived in a quiet, lonely planet my whole life, so standing there, in a center with so many souls circling around, full of actiojs, colors and emotions made me shake and my heart fill with joy and anxiety.
" If just that part of Earth was like that imagine the rest. " I thought "Imagine the rest, the many villages, foods, animals and different landscapes"
I thought it was paradise. A chaotic, confusing onw, but still the best place I've ever been.
But suddenly, my hands glowed and a feeling took over my body, I could feel it, it wasn't just a normal emotion like sadness or happiness, it was a mix of them, a person who was nervous but at the same time had the adrenaline pumping, the same person who had a goal, an objective and had the anxiety and courage to fulfill it, they were seeking and would find it, no mattered what.
I looked at my hand, another one was holding mine. The touch.
I looked up, Mobius was standing there, breathless because of the running but still was able to reach me.
-You again.-I muttered still in schock by the emotions radiating through his body. I've never felt someone else's emotions besides Ego's before.
-Could you...-He tried to speak tired- Stop...running?
-So you can capture me? Of course not!
I was about to go but still held strongly my hand. Something about his touch was different.
-That's not my intention I swear.-His eyes intesely looked into mine- Just hear me, please.
I didn't want to. But, his emotions didn't demonstrate that he was lying, he was serious about that, and I sincerely thought he was right.
-Fine. But fast.
He sighed relieved and took his hand from mine, his feelings slowly disappearing from me.
-First of all we need to go back to the TVA.
-No.
-But-
-If you want to talk then talk here. I'm not going back there.
-I won't let them hurt you.
-You can't guarantee that.-My words echoed.
Mobius stood quiet for a moment and that just made my statement be confirmed. He didn't have authority for that.
-Fine. Then let me see where we are.-He standed his hand in my direction.
-Excuse me?
-The timepad.
-I'm not giving it to you.
-I'm just going to see where we are!
-What if you use this to capture me again?
-I won't!
-No. You are not taking it.
He seemed slightly annoyed by my attitude but I didn't care. I couldn't trust him, we just met, and most of all, he worked for that creepy organization who tried to kill me. Maybe he exoected me to be like that Mantis who'd just agree, but I wouldn't.
-Fine.-He sighed.- Then look at the screen. Press the second left button.
I observed the device with my hands, it was confusing, full of buttons and descriptions. When I pressed it to go to a location I pressed it randomly.
While I tried to sort out where the button he spoke about was, Mobius looked around, observing any single detail in the horizont, almost solving it by himself.
-Wait...-He started to speak, his expression changed.-This is....-
-Oh, I've found it!-I exclaimed happy on finally finding where the button was.- It says-
At that exact moment the ground shaked. Shaked so strongly that people started screaming and running, I could hear something cracking.
-WE'RE IN HONSHU!-Mobius exclaimed as the ground shaked and he tried to keep balance- IT'S 2011!
-WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?-I had to scrsam so he could hear me.
The city once full of enchantment turned into terror. I could see the street now forming holes, buildings shake and fall, people running for ther lives in a chaotic scenary.
-WE NEED TO GO, NOW!-Mobius shouted to me.
But that's when I saw her.
A little girl. She was crying, probably lost, just under a huge building wich was about to fall.
-Y/N NO! WE NEED TO GO!
I didn't think twice. I didn't look or say anything to Mobius. All I did was run.
I ran towards her, tears rolled down her big cute cheeks while she hughed tightly a penguin plush in her arms.
I caught her in my arms and ran, I could feel the building start to tremble and fall, the structure already gone and the concrete approaching us.
I could feel her emotions, scared, nervous, giving me chills. That was the bad part of being able to read people's feelings, you get affected by them in some way, fear makes you may be slightly scared, you can feel their panic, happiness light your mood, makes you feel better with yourself, just like sadness can bring you down a bit too.
The buidling fell behind us. Just inches away I could see the blocks and bricks on the ground, forming a huge crater on the soil.
-Hey, hey it's okay, you are going to be alright.-I tried to calm her but she didn't understand anything that I was saying.
-ママ! ママ!どこにいますか???-She sobbed.
I concentrated and touched her face making her look at me. I needed to pass confidence, to make her feel that she could pass through this.
I tool a deep breath and my hands glowed as she stopped crying. I cleaned her tears and now she was calm and quiet.
I looked around searching for Mobius but I couldn't see him anywhere. The sky now was bloody, from an orange to red tone as the grey and black structures from the high buildings disappeared.
-お母さん!-The little girl pointed to a brunette woman running.
-Is that your mother??-I asked having no idea of what she was saying.
-お母さん! お母さん! お母さん!- She repeated nonstop excited.
I didn't know what else to do so I ran after the woman, avoiding some holes that opened on the ground, the little girl screaming as I made another movement making me feel scared. As I was manipulating her emotions I needed to remain focused, having fear would make her reproduce it too.
I've finallly reached the woman, I grabbed her arm and she turned around, tears rolled down her face as she said something I could not understand and took the girl in her arms.
-メイコ!!!-She sobbed and hug her kid, it didn't take long to the girl cry too as my power got weaker on her.
The woman bowed down to me a few times, maybe in a way to be grateful, and I tried to make her understand that it was nothing and that they should run.
They did started running away to safety, as I felt lost in that chaos.
I was walking, feeling the ground tremble, the people running and bumping into me, as I fell on the hard ground, feelung the asphalt on my face.
I looked up, buildings falling like dominoes, screams and people begging for their lives, it was terrible, I'm sure if I made it alive once I'd never forget those people crying and echoing those unknown words through that destroyed city.
That's when I felt it.
I barely had time to do anything. A disruption behind me, on my legs, slowly opening more and more.
Until it abruptly torned the ground, making people fall to their death. I close my eyes to mine too.
But I didn't fall.
I felt fear. A fear not mine.
-Hold on!-Mobius did strentgh while he tried to take me from the edge.
He pulled me out as I lied on the ground and he helped me get up. We botb breathless, the dusty made our faces dirty and our eyes were wide, observing what was happening around us.
-Why did you do that?-He asked.
-I couldn't let her...-I swallowed not able to finish the sentence. Just imagining it made me have chills.
Mobius stared at me for a moment, he wasn't holding my hand anymore so I couldn't know what he was feeling, his eyes had a hidden message I couldn't solve, they just seemed different.
-We need to go, now.-He said as we heard water.
Yes, water. It was coming, fastly, just then I realized we were on an island. It was about to vanish everything on the surface so fast and so strongly that we wouldn't even be able to feel it anymore.
I grabbed the pad on my hands and looked at him. I had to make a decision.
I gave him the device, maybe my attitude wasn't expected by him but he accepted. My future was on his hands.
He pressed some buttons and the yellow bright door appeared again. He went in its' direction and looked at me:
-Let's go.
I stared at the city behind me, or the rest of it, quickly disappearing in front of me, along with the many species in it.
-You can't save them Y/N. All of this...-He sighed- Unfortunetly we can't.
I followed him and left it all behind with my heart aching and feeling the pain of all those citizens in fear.
⏳
-This isn't the TVA.-I said as we stepped outside the portal to a peaceful place.
It was the total contrast from where we got out. It was night, full of lights, people well formally dressed walking, spealing a sophisticated but not compreheensive language for my ears, as a huge arc monument was in front of us.
-No it's not.-He answered.
Something about the city was so warm, so desirable. I could appreciate that view for hours, it was breathtaking, every single light, trees along witg stars bright with the huge moon in the sky, everything in a stunning aesthetic, with the final touch of a huge tower all full of yellow lights.
-Is this...Paris?-I tried to guess from the images I saw in books.
-Yes, 2019 one.-He answered now on my side observing the huge Eiffel Tower.- Beautiful right?
-Way more than I imagined- I looked at him and he had a smile on his lips. Something about that smile, that city, and the destruction we just escaped from made me had something bloom inside of me, a cold but warm feeling, a scaring and dear one, but certanily unexpected and inedited one.- Now we can talk.
He turned to me as the stars shined above us and couples walked holding hands on the streets.
-I need your help.-He suddenly said.- I need your help in the TVA.
-What?
-It's being hard to capture variants, and with your powers you could help make them calmer until we can explain the situation, causing no harm.
-But you are going to kill them!
-You eed to understand that they just not harm the sacred timeline but their own timeline too Y/N. You'd be helping the universe with this.
-According to your rules I shouldn't exist.
-Maybe not in your timeline.-He said.-But I never said about you existing as a TVA agent.
-I don't want to kill people. I don't enjoy doing it. I didn't feel joy in killing Ego.
-I know.-He put a hand on my shoulder.-And you are not killing. These people won't feel pain. You are just helping us. Helping the universe. You saw that Island. Imagine many others like that where other tragedies happen, imagine what a variant could cause, the damage it could happen if someone altered the story with bad intentions.
Rain. Rain started pouring on us. Little drops of water falling and making our clothes wet, making little marks on the ground, cold, freshing us from the hush we've been through.
I lifted my eyes to the sky, absorving that feeking just for a few more seconds. Mobius still with his eyes on me, as I observed enchanted the french rain.
People already grabbed their umbrellas in a defense act, while others ran putting anything they could abouve their heads.
Mobius took coat and put above my head, his eyes met mine, I looked like a fragile person on the rain, my mouth slightly opened observing him with his cotton cure protecting me from the coldness.
-Who guarantees you're not lying to me?-I asked and noticed my voice was quite vulnerable at that moment.
-You'll have to trust me in this one.-He spoke with a low voice.
The sound of the rain took over the silence, while we both soaked, his fluffy hair getting down andwatery, while the overall I wore was already all pointed of raindraps.
-I promise I'll do my best so no one will hurt you.-He spoke again and I felt something inside of me shake.
The words, the rain, the lights. All of that conbined in a beatiful mess in the most romantic city in the planet according to the "Best Cities to Visit in the 1980's" book I read.
-You'd better keep your promise.-I answered.
He sniffed and his blue eyes hid behind his cheeks as he flexioned a smile across his face.
-Is that a threat?-He joked.
-Depends on how you'll behave Mobius.-I played.
We kept there smiling to eacg other for a solid second, a warm feeling in the cold rain.
He then grabbed the timepad:
-Ready?-He asked.-The branch is already being formed, we need to go now.
I was scared. Very scared of what was going to happen or if I was doing the right decision. But something in Mobius made me feel like that was the best decision to make.
-Yes.-I replied.
He pressed some buttons and the yellow ported appeared in front of us, I glanced at him for a moment, hesitant, wile he gave a comforting gaze assuring me to go.
I entered and just hoped everything would work out, while leaving the beautiful Paris behind me.
⏳
Mobius' POV
-Mobius.-Ravonna already waited for me when I got out of the portal holding a baton in my direction.
-Ravonna.-I said back.
-The variant is still with you.
We both glanced at Y/N with a vulnerable posture across the room, surrounded by a circle of guards. She was all wet becaus of the rain, only her face protected by the coat I put above her head. The way she looked at me, she seemed...fragile.
-Yes she is.-I answered fiercely.
-We need to talk in my office. Now.-She started to walk towards the door expecting me to follow her. She turned back realizin I didn't.- Mobius.
-I want her to listen too.-I demanded.
Y/N just looked at me trying to understand the situation, Ravonna didn't seem pleased by my attitude.
-What is going on with you?-She questioned annoyed.
-She can help us with the fugitive variants.
-She is a variant Mobius, or did you forget about it?
-But with her Mantis skills she can really help.
-So you want me to recruit her? As an agent?
-Yes.
Ravonna stood quiet, I knew that when she did that it meant that she couldn't stand what I just said. That the idea seemed absurd for her.
-She won't affect the timeline.-I insisted.
-Still, variants are not supposed to just walk away. I know you are my friend but-
-I'm not asking this as a friend Ravonna.-I interrupted serious- As one of your best agents and analists I assure you, she is our key to catch the fugitive variants.-I pointed to Y/N across the room- And if something goes wrong, I'll take full responsability over this.
-Do you know the risk you're taking right now?
-None of this would be possible if the Time-Keepers didn't take the risk of trusting us Ravonna.
I made her speechless. Her eyebrows furrowed as she observed Y/N quiet and still with a decided look.
She finally sighed and turned to me:
-If anything goes wrong it's your fault Mobius, I won't be able to help you.
-I'm sure it won't happen.-I glaned at Y/N and gave a half smile- We are doing the right thing.-I turned to Ravonna- Thank you.
-I will speak about this to the Time-Keepers now. Excuse me.-She said and left the room along with her guards.
Y/N and I were again alone in the room. The screen still was the same from when we left, paralyzed in Mantis picture. She was still observing it, quietly analyzing her other version searching for any resemblence.
I came by her side and we continued in silence for a moment, it was impressive how she could be so agitated but quiet at the same time.
-What do I do now?-She asked.
-Now...-I said and we looked at each other, sometimes I didn't have words as I looked at her face.-You'll become an agent.
-I have no idea of how to do that.
-Don't worry.-I joked- You'll have a great mentor.
-Okay-She chuckled and hid again with the coat, that was...cute.
-Nervous?-I asked.
-Yes.-She answered.-But strangely excited too.
-You'll do a good job.
-I hope so.-She sighed- By the way, why did you do that?
-Did what?
-Put all the responsability in yourself. What if I rebel against you all? Or if I escape again? Don't you fear something like that?
I mediated in her words for a second.
-Maybe that's the meaning of trying to trust someone.-I said and her eyes shined while looking into mine.
No words needed to be spoken anymore. Now only the future would tell.
I did take a risk, but something in that girl told me that she'd do good in the TVA. I saw potential and, behind all those traumas and barriers to protect herself, a good heart.
She'd be one of the greatest agents of all timelines.
