ONLY LOVE CAN HURT LIKE THIS
When Ares and Apollo were little Aryss loved to tell them stories about the boy who flew too close to the sun or the boy who carried the burden of the world in his mind. At the time, the boys never knew she was talking about their fathers. For son long, she told them they lost their memories and were in another world. Which often happened.
Ikaris watched her from a distance, Aryss was practicing her magic. She could feel his stared. She remembered.
FLASHBACK
Ikaris and Aryss were at a ball. They watched everyone danced and once we gone sat down he asked her to dance. She gave him a look. "What?" he asked with a smile. "Dance with me" he said. "But, there's no one else dancing" she replied. He shrugged. "It's always been you and I" he replied to her. "And it's always gonna be you and me" she smiled and took his hand. They began to dance. She was self-conscious at first but once she looked into his beautiful blue eyes everyone else disappeared.
She wished she could go back, back to the time were they were happy. Ikaris always knew she loved Druig too. They both knew she loved them. She told herself it was okay to love them both, if they both were okay with it and they were. She smiled as she remembered.
Druig was the boy with the world on his shoulders. She loved to ease his mind by taking all of his thoughts away with a simple touch. What he never knew was that all those voices, thoughts and such were passed to her. She loved him so much that she was taking his burden always. "My beautiful, beautiful Aryss" he used to say.
How she loved that. She kept reminiscing until she remembered Druig was also there. She was strong enough to block him from entering her mind but if she was distracted enough he could.
NOW
Ikaris couldn't keep his eyes from her. She was so unknown and mysterious. He couldn't even remember meeting her before. "Perhaps you can take a picture. It may last longer" she stated from afar but they both heard. Druig and Ikaris were both watching her from a distance. With a flick of her hand they both stood in front of her. Memories rushed back, for her. She smiled. "Ikaris, the boy who flew too close to the sun" she said as she looked at him. "Druig, the boy who carried the burden of the world in his mind" she said as she turned to Druig.
"How do you know that?" Ikaris asked. "Where do you think that came from?" she asked. "Why don't we remember you?" Druig asked. "Arishem made sure you could never remember me, for if you did, everything would fall apart. Everything he did, would've been for nothing if you did" she said sadly. Both eternals could hear the sadness in her voice. "Why?" Ikaris asked and she looked at him. "You already know why. Just don't know the beginning of it" she replied. She had yet to discover the part he played on everything.
"It's been so long" she began. "Yet, every memory we shared it's burnt into my head. Sort of like a tattoo" she added. "Take me back, to the night we met" she whispered. "Take me back, to the night we met" she repeated. Both got glimpses of her. "What-" both of them were confused. They saw glimpses of her. Ikaris who rarely smiled, even with Sersei saw himself smiling and laughing like an idiot. Druig, who barely smiled was jus like Ikaris. "Who are you?" they both asked. "Only love can hurt like this" was all she said before she walked away.
And indeed, only love could hurt like this. She remembered them, yet, they didn't. And that, hurt her more than anything.
