MICHAEL SAT ON the sofa, his hands folded in front of him and his elbows on his knees. He was staring at the wall deep in thought. The shelf containing the picture of Aubrey was just above his eyesight.
Y/N entered the living room, having come from his room where he put back the metal case that housed his spider suit. After the teenager revealed himself as Spider-Man, he showed Michael the suit and explained briefly where it came from. There were few words exchanged then.
"Dad?" Y/N called out, putting his hands in his pockets. "I'm sorry that I kept this from you. I just...didn't want you to worry or stress out any more than you already do."
Michael exhaled and looked down at his hands. The teenager took a step closer toward the sofa.
"You don't deserve this. Having such things kept from you. Having to worry about me. You shouldn't have to deal with me."
This time, Michael turned to his son. He didn't want to hear that coming from him.
"Don't say that, Y/N." He stood up from the sofa. "I'm happy to have you. Of course, I am! It's just...this is a lot to take in."
Michael turned back around and looked at the shelf with his wife's picture. The man let out a sigh.
"When I lost your mom, the days afterward were painful. I slept every night scared. Scared for me...scared for you." He explained. "The alien invasion opened a lot of eyes...including mine. It showed us that there are higher powers in the universe compared to us on Earth. We're just...specks in the grand scheme of it all. That meant that there could be danger at any moment...and that I could lose much more. That I could lose you too."
"You won't lose me, dad. Trust me, you don't have to worryโ"
"It's my job to worry." Michael interjected and faced him. "And now you're telling me that you've been going out there, fighting criminals and getting shot at."
Y/N stayed quiet and let his father speak.
"How long have you been doing this? About a year? All those things that the news talked about Spider-Man...the situation with Robert Farrell, the fight in Germany, the trouble in D.C and at the ferry...they all involved you."
"Yeah. Butโ"
"You could've been seriously hurt. And I wouldn't have known. It would've been that one phone call...the call where they tell me my son was found in a red and blue suit...dead." Michael tried to hold back tears. "I don't want to go through that again."
The teenager let out a sigh, composing himself so he doesn't tear up either.
"I do what I do so that people don't have to go through what we went through, dad. You said before, what mom also said, that I have gifts that I should use for the betterment of not only myself but others. This is my gift. And I'm using it to help people."
"Y/N..."
"I was given this power and I need to use it for the greater good. That might sound cheesy as hell, but that's really what it is. After that field trip...my life was never going to be the same and I knew that. It had to change for the better. And this is it."
There was a beat. Y/N continued.
"When you can do the things I can...but you don't...and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you." He said. "I've made some mistakes...and I don't want to make them again. I want to be able to help everyone."
"Those..." Michael took a breath. "Those are some fine words."
"I know what I do is dangerous." Y/N walked up to his father and stood in front of him. "The people up there, people like Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, they're in charge of dealing with the world-ending situations. Me...it's up to me to handle what goes on here, because if not me then who will?"
Michael sat back down on the sofa. Y/N joined him and took a seat beside him. The teenager didn't have much else to say, and they sat there for a brief moment in silence.
"I understand." His father finally spoke. "You have a good heart. You always have. It's just hard to think that you're out there risking your life...when that is supposed to be my job. My job as your father."
"You've been doing your job as my father. An amazing one at that. Don't think that you haven't done enough. I know mom wouldn't think so."
Michael nodded and looked at the picture frame of Aubrey. He let out a sigh and looked back at his son.
"I know she's not here physically, but she's here spiritually...and in our hearts. She would be proud of what you've become and what you're doing."
"And she'd be proud of the man you've raised me to become." Y/N replied with a smile. "Even though this world has many super-powered individuals...you are my hero, dad. You are the one I'll always look up to."
Michael let out a soft chuckle before Y/N pulled him in for a hug. The two held the embrace, and after a whole day of worry and stress, the L/Ns finally felt relief.

FINALLY BEING ABLE to reveal his secret to his father was a burden off his shoulders. Now he had to think of how to tell MJ and Gwen, but that'd be a worry for another time.
It had been a couple of days since the emotional evening he had with his dad. At Midtown, he mostly rotated between schoolwork and detention. It wasn't the only punishment he had either, since his dad also grounded him for two weeks. It wasn't for the Spider-Man antics but for his current grades, which was something Michael didn't like despite knowing Y/N was the web-slinging vigilante.
He got to catch up on work, was luckily able to make up the Spanish quiz, and even got to finish building the LEGO Deathstar with Ned and Peter during one of their breaks. Ned handed Y/N the minifigure of Emperor Palpatine, and with a smile, took it and placed it at the top of the dome.
Later in the day, Peter explained that Tony had a talk with him but left it at that. He also told Y/N that Liz ended up asking him out to homecoming. Y/N wondered why he didn't go with Gwen instead, but he revealed that the blonde wasn't going to attend. He didn't know why, but Y/N assumed that she was still dealing with what happened in Washington D.C. And he didn't blame her.
Peter said that he was willing to not go, but that Gwen insisted he still went so he can have fun. The boy promised to take her the next year, so Parker was surely looking forward to the Fall of 2017.
With his best friend now having a partner to the dance, it was time for Y/N to make his move. He had the person in mind and just the place to do so.
Y/N sat in detention, having a book at his desk and looking at the screen playing yet another Captain America PSA. MJ sat in the seat to his right, drawing in her sketchbook.
"Hey." She whispered.
The teenager looked at her and the brunette held up her book, showing the drawing of him in the exact pose he was in.
He let out a chuckle before opening his own book. Y/N held up a finger, signaling her to hold on. He picked up his pencil and started to draw in it. MJ was curious to see what he was sketching, and after taking a while she finally questioned him.
"What are you doing?"
"Sorry. I want this to be good. Can't show you an ugly drawing after that." Y/N replied referring to her drawing of him.
MJ let him continue. After a couple more minutes, Y/N stopped and kept the book close to his chest.
"Ready?" He asked.
She gave a simple shrug. Y/N looked at it for a second before turning it over and showing the brunette. She immediately raised a brow.
"What the heck is that?"
A/N: I actually tried drawing something LMAO. Behold, a masterpiece.
"Oh. Well, you see, these are people on the dance floor. Here, I tried to draw the table with the punch bowl, and over here is the stage. This one is me and this is you. And this is the disco ball that...looks like an upside-down lollipop..." There was a beat after he explained. "Oh! I almost forgot."
Y/N continued with the sketch and started writing this time. It only took a couple of seconds before he showed it to her again.
MJ looked at it and let out a soft chuckle. She would've laughed louder if Coach Wilson wasn't in the room.
"You're such a dork." She whispered.
"Is that a yes?" Y/N asked with a smirk.
MJ didn't nod or shrug. She just looked at the teenager and mouthed the words of course.
Y/N smiled, feeling a mix of elation and nervousness. The tanned-skinned girl went back to drawing in her book as her friend-slash-homecoming date sat back in his seat and relaxed.
Coach Wilson looked at Y/N and MJ, them being the only ones in the room with him. He stifled a chuckle after having witnessed their antics the last few minutes, then continued with whatever he was doing on his desktop.

THE TEENAGER PRETTY much ran home to tell his dad the news. Michael was happy that he found a date to homecoming and that he finally asked a girl out. He was also glad of the fact that his son was enjoying regular high schooler things compared to just vigilante work.
Y/N spent the rest of the evening getting ready for the dance. Him going was so last minute but luckily he was able to get a nice suit from his dad. Michael had to go back to the Bulletin later, so they went on a quick trip to buy a corsage before he dropped him off at May's.
She was happy to take them both to Liz's house, where MJ was going to be as well. Just like Y/N, MJ's dad was quite the working man and had left on a business trip earlier in the day. With her mom also being occupied, she ended up going home with Liz after school.
Y/N and Peter were in the car with May. She parked in front of the Toomes residence and spoke with the teenagers before they left.
"All right, boys. It's game day. What's the plan?"
"We open the door for them." Peter began. "Tell our dates they look nice, but not too much."
"Yeah, because that's creepy." Y/N chimed in.
Peter agreed and continued. "And when we dance, we keep our hands at their hips."
"You got this." May cheered them on.
The two exited the car. Y/N almost forgot the corsage but May luckily let him know. He thanked her before him and Peter bid farewell and she drove away.
Y/N breathed out as they started walking toward the door of the house.
"Oh, man. My heart is racing. This is worse than the science fair." He remarked.
"Relax." Peter said rather calmly, which was the polar opposite of how the roles were during the aforementioned science fair.
"Look at you all calm and collected." Y/N jested.
"Oh, trust me. I'm about to collapse too."
They finally made it to the door and Peter rang the doorbell. As they waited, Y/N glanced down at dress shoes and noticed one of his laces was uneven.
"Crap." He muttered and bent down to fix it.
Suddenly, the door opened and the man on the other side greeted them. Y/N was still fixing his shoes.
"You must be Peter."
The voice sounded familiar to Y/N. After he was done with his shoes, he stood up and looked at the man. It immediately dawned on him and his face went from a smile to a straight one.
"And Y/N." He continued then extended his hand for a shake. "I'm Adrian Toomes, Liz's dad."
He was the same guy on the ferry, the older balding man that he saw enter the van to acquire his wing-suit.
He was the Vulture.
"Good evening, Mr. Toomes." Peter greeted.
Y/N didn't say a word, still in shock at his realization. Peter nudged his arm and snapped him out of his thoughts.
"Uh...yeah. I'm Y/N." He finally spoke.
"I know, I just greeted you." Adrian replied.
"Oh, right. Sorry. And what's your name?"
"I...just said that too. I'm Adrian."
Peter didn't want an already awkward situation to be more awkward. He tried to come up with an excuse for his friend's behavior.
"Y/N's pretty nervous. He's never gone to a dance. Well, neither have I. This is also the first time we've had dates so..."
Adrian cut the teenager off. "I understand. No need to explain. Come on in."
The two boys entered the house and followed the man down the corridor. Adrian looked at Y/N.
"And you're here for Michelle, right?"
"Oh, yeah. Is she here?"
"Yup. She and Liz should be right down in a bit."
Adrian kept walking and entered the kitchen, the boys also easing their way through the hallway. Before Y/N can whisper to Peter of what he found out, Liz's mom, Doris, came out from the living room, startling them.
"Hello. Wow, you two look very handsome." She complimented.
"Thank you." Peter replied.
"I'll go get Liz and Michelle." She smiled and walked up the stairs.
Y/N was the only boy out of the duo to be in such a state of panic. Peter was so calm compared to him and Adrian was starting to take notice.
"You all right, Y/N?" He asked.
The teenager nodded. Adrian kept talking.
"Because you look pale. You want something to drink? Like a bourbon or a Scotch, or something like that?"
He shook his head. "I'm not old enough to drink."
Adrian smirked, pointing the kitchen knife he had in his hand. "That's the right answer."
The girls finally came down and stepped into the kitchen. They both wore very nice attire, with Liz having an all-red dress and MJ wearing a yellow floral embroidered one. What stood out to Y/N was MJ's choice of footwear, which were Nike Air Jordan 1 sneakers instead of typical heels.
Y/N wished he was able to compliment his date on her attire and mention how beautiful she looked, but he was still trapped in his current state of mind.
"Wow! Wow, wow, wow." Adrian said as he looked at Liz. "Wow, do you look beautiful."
"Please don't embarrass me, Dad." Liz pleaded.
"Doesn't she, Pete?" He asked him.
"Yeah, you look really good." The teenager complimented rather quickly.
"Right answer as well." Adrian said and glanced at his wife. "These boys know exactly what to say."
"Hey." MJ greeted.
"...hey." Y/N replied and held out the corsage. "This is for you."
She took it. "Thanks."
Adrian put the knife down and looked at the teenagers. "Well, I'm your chauffeur, so let's get this show on the road."
"No, no, no. We have to take some pictures, babe." Doris said and ran to get her camera. She acquired it and stood in front of them.
"All right. Smile. Come on, Y/N, closer."
Peter beamed as he stood beside Liz. Y/N tried his best to give a genuine smile but kept glancing at Adrian as the pictures were being taken. After they finished, Y/N spoke to the older man.
"Uh, sir, you don't have to drive us..."
"Nah, nah, it's not a big deal." Adrian went to get his coat and put it on. "I'm going out of town. It's right on my way."
"He's always coming and going." Doris chimed in then looked at the two girls. "You two have fun." She started to whisper as well. "Those boys are cute."
"Mom." Liz groaned before kissing her on the cheek. As the girls were going toward the door, Adrian went up to his wife and kissed her as well.
"I'll see you in a couple of days." He turned to the boys next. "Come on, fellas."
They were in Toomes's car as they drove to the school. Liz sat in the passenger's seat while MJ, Peter, and Y/N sat in the back. During their drive, Adrian often glanced at Y/N, feeling as if they'd run into each other before. He decided to spark a conversation with the boys.
"What are you gonna do, Pete?"
"What?" The teenager looked away from the window and faced him.
"When you graduate. What are you going to do?"
"Don't grill him, dad." Liz cut in as she looked through her phone.
"I'm just asking. If you go to that school you pretty much have your life planned out, right?"
"Well...I plan on majoring in biochemistry." Peter answered.
"Really?" Adrian asked.
"And bioengineering."
"Wow. That too?" He looked at Y/N next. "And you, Y/N? Got the same goals?"
Y/N shrugged. "It's a lot to think about right now. I'm just a sophomore. But I can see myself doing what Pete does."
"They both have an internship with Tony Stark." Liz told her dad.
"With Stark?" That caught the man's intrigue. "Oh. What do you guys do?"
"Uh...nothing much." Y/N glanced at Peter before looking back at Adrian. "It's actually pretty boring."
"Boring?" Liz asked. "You get to hang out with Spider-Man."
The teenager tensed up after hearing that. Peter was cautious of what was being said as well. Even MJ noticed the subtle reaction coming from her date.
"Really? Spider-Man? Wow. What's he like?" Adrian asked.
"He's nice." Y/N replied after swallowing. "Swell dude. Solid guy."
There was silence for a few seconds as they continued driving. Adrian looked at Y/N through the rear-view mirror again.
"I've seen you around, right? I mean, somewhere. We've...have we ever...? Because even the voiceโ"
"He does academic decathlon with the three of us." Liz said also mentioning Peter and MJ. "And he was at my party."
"Yeah. It was a great party." Y/N chuckled. "Really great. Beautiful house, a lot of windows."
"You were there for like, two seconds, Y/N."
"Come on, I was there longer than that."
"No. You disappeared."
"Uh..."
Peter chimed in. "Wha...what do you mean? I was there with him. He probably went to the bathroom."
"I saw you and Ned waiting around for him." Liz butted. "He disappeared like he did in D.C too."
The car stopped at a red light. Y/N hoped Adrian wouldn't notice the beads of sweat going down his temples. The older man took in what his daughter had been saying and exhaled, then looked directly at Y/N through the mirror.
"That's terrible what happened down there in D.C. though. Weren't you scared? I bet you were glad you old pal Spider-Man showed up in the elevator though, huh?"
Y/N glanced at Peter and MJ. The boy kept looking forward, not sure of what else to say to try and quell the situation. MJ kept looking out the window, and he wondered what was on her mind.
"Yeah, well, I actually didn't go up. I saw it all from the ground." Y/N lied.
"Yup." Liz corroborated what she thought was the truth.
Y/N continued. "Very lucky that he was there that day."
Adrian kept looking at the teenager, not noticing that the light had switched to green. Something else switched within his head and he smirked.
"Good old Spider-Man."
Horns started honking and Liz noticed her dad wasn't paying attention.
"Dad? The light."
Adrian looked back toward the road and continued driving. No more words were spoken throughout the rest of the way. They finally made it to Midtown High and Toomes parked the car in front of the steps. Students were outside and they could hear the music coming from within the gym.
"Here we are. End of the line." He announced.
"Thanks, dad." Liz said.
"Thank you." MJ also thanked.
"You ladies head in there. I'm gonna give these fellas the dad talk. And I'm happy to do so on your behalf too, Michelle."
"Um...okay." She replied.
"Don't let him intimidate you." Liz told the boys before looking at her friend. "Let's go, MJ."
Liz bid her father farewell too and wished him luck on his trip. The two ladies walked up the steps and into the building.
"Well, Pedro." Adrian began. "Two rules. Keep your hands to yourself and don't do anything you wouldn't want me to do to you. Show my daughter a good time, but not too much, you get me?"
"Uh...yes, sir." Peter replied.
"Okay. On you go. Give me the room so I can talk to Y/N."
Peter glanced at Y/N, who simply have a nod back before leaving the car. Peter went inside the building, leaving Adrian and Y/N alone in the car.
As Y/N expected, Adrian's plan wasn't to lecture him on the ways of treating a lady at a dance. The man took out a pistol from the glove compartment, placing it by the headrest of the seat beside him. He looked back at Y/N.
"Do they know?" He asked, having had already figured out that the teenager was Spider-Man.
"Know what?" Y/N replied rather smugly.
"I reckon they don't. Good. Close to the vest. I admire that. I've got a few secrets of my own." He spoke. "Y/N, nothing is more important than family. You saved my daughter's life. I could never forget something like that. So I'm gonna give you one chance. Are you ready?"
Y/N didn't give a response, not even a nod. He let the man continue speaking.
"You walk through those doors, you forget any of this ever happened, and don't you ever, ever, interfere with my business again. Because if you do, I'll kill you, and everybody you love. I'll kill you dead. That's what I'll do to protect my family, Y/N. Do you understand?"
Y/N looked down at his hands. Adrian didn't like the unresponsiveness of the teenager.
"Hey. I just saved your life. Now, what do you say?"
The man had a point. Adrian could've shot Y/N then and there. The teenager looked back up at him.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome. Now you go on in there and have a great time. And make sure your buddy isn't too handsy with my babygirl. Get out."
Y/N stepped out of the car and shut the door. Adrian immediately drove out of the lot and left the boy standing there. What transpired left him feeling uneasy and unsure of what to do.
The laugh and lively chattering of the partygoers were tuned out in his head. He walked through the hallway and went up to the doors, seeing Peter with Liz and also Ned with MJ and a few other people from the decathlon team.
Ned and MJ waved at him, with the tanned-skinned girl giving a smile and jokingly flipping the bird.
Y/N didn't react, only opening the doors and stepping into the gym. He walked through the crowd, having a blank stare as he stepped closer to the group. He went up to MJ.
"Hey, dork." She greeted rather casually. "I'd love to know what Mr. Toomes said on my dad's behalf."
Y/N stood quiet for a moment as he looked at his date. He knew what he needed to do, and it pained him that it was going to involve leaving the dance...and leaving her.
"I've got to go. I'm so sorry." He said. "I'll...I'll be back though."
MJ looked at him, nodding before simply replying. "Okay."
That wasn't the response he expected. It was so understanding that he was pretty taken back. Still, he nodded in return.
"I promise."
Y/N ran passed her and toward the door. Ned, Peter, and a few other people noticed him dart out of the gym.
He sprinted through the hallway, panting as he started to undo his tie. Y/N also unbuttoned the dress shirt he was wearing, revealing the spider-suit beneath it.
Y/N had changed into Spider-Man by the time he left through the back door. As he was running, he was suddenly blasted and sent flying to the side.
"He gave you a choice." Herman said as he walked up to him. He had his shock gauntlet on. "You chose wrong."
"Oh, great. It's you again. That's a shocker." Y/N remarked as he propped himself up. "Hey...you know what? I'm gonna start calling you that. Since you have all thatโ"
Herman hit him with the gauntlet and Y/N crashed against the side of a bus. Y/N groaned on the floor.
"Funny...I actually do go by that now." Herman told the web-slinger.
"Really?" Y/N stood up. "I get bonus points for taking that shot in the dark."
"I wasn't sure about this thing at first...but damn!" Shocker exclaimed and tried hitting him again.
Y/N dodged the attack and flipped over Shocker, landing behind him. He swept the man's legs and took him down, but while on the floor Herman blasted Spider-Man again and sent him crashing through a bus.
"Ugh..." Y/N groaned as he laid in between the rows of the seats. He saw gum stuck underneath them. "Gross."
Shocker got up and ran toward the bus he was in, where he punched it with his gauntlet and sent it tumbling over. Y/N was still inside as he rolled and landed upside down.
He crawled out and laid on top of the shattered glass. Herman walked up to the downed hero, charging up his gauntlet to deal a fatal blow.
"Time to squash a bug."
Before he can attack, a sudden blast hit his gauntlet and disabled it. Herman looked to his right but wasn't able to react fast enough before another projectile hit him and sent the goon crashing against the bus. He fell to the ground, in pain and struggling to move.
Y/N looked up, seeing both Ned and Peter. The latter had a makeshift repulsor gauntlet on his right hand, similar to the one Peter had shown him last week.
"It worked!" Ned exclaimed.
"Holy crap...it did." Peter looked at it in awe.
"Nice!" Y/N exclaimed, kipping back up onto his feet and walking to Herman. He stood him up and stuck him to the side of the bus with webbing.
Spider-Man ran up to Peter and Ned. "Guys! Guys! The guy with the wings is Liz's dad!"
"What?" Ned exclaimed.
Peter was also in awe. "So you're saying my date is related to some demon-looking arms dealer?"
"I have to stop him. Pete, call Happy and let him know. Ned, get a computer and track my phone."
"Why?"
"I left it in his car. So wherever it is, is where Toomes is." Y/N ran the other way and leaped up onto a streetlight.
"Are you gonna be okay?" Peter called out.
"We gotta catch him before he leaves town!" Y/N exclaimed and swung away.
The web-slinger was making his way out of the parking lot. He suddenly spotted a car driving up to the front of the school, and he realized it was Flash. Swinging could only take him so far so quickly, so he needed another mode of transportation.
Spider-Man landed on the hood of the car, startling both Flash and his date. Y/N spoke in a deep gravelly voice reminiscent of Christian Bale's Batman.
"Flash, I need your car and your phone."
Flash looked up at him nervously. "Uh, sir, technically this is my dad's car so I can'tโ"
Y/N ultimately took the car anyway. Flash stood beside his date on the sidewalk as he watched Spider-Man drive off in his convertible. Y/N still hasn't gotten his license, and his inexperience showed when he crashed into several bicycles.
Y/N kept driving through Forest Hills. He called Ned, who was now in the school's computer lab with Peter.
"Can you guys hear me?" He asked.
"Loud and clear."
"I need you to track my phone."
"Already done it. Toomes just passed by a GameStop on Jackson Avenue."
"Where are the headlights on this thing? I'm in Flash's car!"
"I'll pull up the specs." Peter said as he went to another computer. "You stole Flash's car? That's awesome."
"Yeah! It's awesomeโOh, shit!" Y/N swerved out of the way of an oncoming bus. There were a couple of more cars ahead and he sped up to pass them. "Out of the way! Out of the way! Move!"
"You okay?" Ned asked.
"I haven't really driven before! Only in parking lots with my pops! This is crazy!" He replied. "Have you gone through to Happy yet?"
"Yeah, let me just backdoor the phone system and Peter'll give me the number."
After he was able to get the phone system activated. Ned called the number Peter gave him while he continued looking through the specs for Flash's car. Happy answered and was on video.
"Hello? Hello? Who is this?"
"Uh, Mr. Happy, it's Ned."
"Who?"
"I'm an associate of Spider-Man, Y/N L/N, and we really need to tellโ"
"You've got to be shitting me."
Happy quickly ended the call. Ned let out an exasperated sigh and flailed his arms. "Damn!"
Peter turned around on the swivel chair. "You shouldn't have said Y/N's name, he kinda doesn't like him. Let me try."
Meanwhile, Y/N continued driving. He was still on speaker and talked to his friends.
"Guys? Where is Toomes now?"
"He stopped in an industrial park in Brooklyn."
"What? That makes no sense! I thought he was going out of town!"
"Oh, by the way, I tried reaching Mr. Happy and he doesn't seem to like you. Peter's gonna try again...but it sounds like he's catching a flight. It's taking off in nine minutes. He was surrounded by a bunch of boxes."
"Boxes?"
Peter tried calling but Happy still didn't answer. The teenager overheard his friend's question.
"Yeah, it's moving day at the tower."
"Moving day?" Y/N started to realize. "Crap! It's moving day! He's going to rob that plane!"
Y/N sped up and made his way to Brooklyn. With the help of Ned and Peter, he was able to navigate through the backstreets and make it to the lone industrial park his phone was at.
"All right. I'm here. I'm going in."
"Be careful, man." Peter said.
"It's been an honor Spider-Man."
The call ended. Peter and Ned gave each other a high five, but the lights in the computer lab m suddenly turned on. A chaperone from the dance downstairs walked up to them with a glare.
"What are you two doing up here? There's a dance."
"Uh..." Peter turned around, not knowing what to say. Ned also tried to think of an excuse, and he said the first thing that came to his head.
"We're...uh...looking at...porn."
โข โข โข
SPIDER-MAN RAPPELLED DOWN into the building using his webs. The large area was dark, but screens containing blueprints of weapons and the plane illuminated the room. He turned around and even saw Vulture's wings up on its stand.
He walked through the warehouse until he made it to what seemed to be an open parking structure. At the end of the room was Adrian, who was at a table looking over his things.
"Hey!" The hero shouted. "Surprised?"
Adrian looked back. "Oh. Hey, Y/N. I didn't hear you come in."
"It's over! I got you!"
"You know...I gotta tell you, kid. I really, really admire your grit." He started to put on his fur-collared coat. "You got balls too. I had that gun right by your face and you didn't bat an eye."
"How can you do this?" Y/N asked. "To Liz, to your family?"
"I'm not doing anything to them. I'm doing this for them."
"Right."
Y/N immediately shot a web that stuck the older man's hand to the table. He nonchalantly looked at it and sighed.
"Y/N, you're young. You don't understand how the world works."
"But I do understand that selling weapons to criminals is wrong." The teenager butted.
"How do you think your pal Stark paid for that tower? Or any of his little toys?" Adrian said with a risen tone. He paused for a second before continuing.
"Those people...those people up there, the rich and powerful, they do whatever they want. But guys like us...you and me...they don't care about us. We build their roads and we fight all their wars and everything. They don't care about us. We have to pick up after them, we have to eat their table scraps. That's how it is. I know you know what I'm talking about, Y/N."
"Why are you telling me this?"
"Because I want you to understand. And...I needed a little time to get her airborne."
Adrian pressed a button he had in his free hand and blew up one of the walls. His wings came flying in and Y/N backflipped to dodge it. Vulture used the diversion to cut himself free.
Spider-Man kept dodging the erratic attacks coming from the flying wings. He bent over backward and the wings missed him one final time before it kept soaring around.
"I'm sorry, Y/N." Adrian said with a smug look.
"What are you talking about? That thing hasn't even touched me yet!"
"True." Adrian said with a shrug. "But then again...I wasn't really trying to."
Unbeknownst to Y/N, the wings had been taking down the pillars supporting the parking structure they were in. It toppled the last column, and the concrete from the ceiling fell onto Spider-Man. Vulture gave one last look at the debris and walked out of the building, his wings following as well.
The teenager laid beneath the rubble for a few minutes before he came to. He opened his eyes and groaned as he tried to writhe out of the heavy slabs of rock. He felt as if he couldn't breathe so he pulled off his mask.
"Come on...come on." Y/N muttered before using his remaining strength to lift the concrete, but it wouldn't budge. He gasped and started to panic.
"Hello! Hello!" He yelled. "Please, I'm down here! Please. I'm down here. I'm stuck. I can't get out."
He knew nobody was out there to hear his pleas. The teenager panted, laying his head down as he thought about the worst-case scenario. Y/N could die beneath the rubble and he'd be found in his suit, just like his father feared. The horrible thing about it was being found under the debris...just like his mother perished those years ago.
Y/N lifted his head a bit and looked at the puddle of water in front of him. His mask was in it, but he could also see his reflection. Y/N gazed upon the two halves of his life.
"You won't lose me, Dad."
"You got me, and I got you."
"We got each other."
Y/N gritted his teeth and kept looking at his reflection. He was going to use every bit of strength he had to get out of where he was.
"Come on, Y/N." He said. "Come on, Spider-Man."
He started to lift the debris, still chanting the three words in his head.
"Come on, Spider-Man. Come on, Spider-Man!"
Y/N strained as he lifted the concrete off of himself. He was finally able to get on his feet and held the debris over his head. He let out one final yell as he threw the slabs away.
Spider-Man caught his breath and looked up through the collapsed roof. He could see Vulture perched upon a billboard waiting for the right time to chase the cargo plane.
Y/N glared, then bent down to grab his mask on put it on.
"All right. Now I'm pissed."
