A SPIDER DANGLED from its web in front of the open apartment window, which gave a perfect view of the One World Trade Center on the city skyline. The morning sunlight beamed into the room, enveloping the somewhat dim abode.
Beside the window was a small bookshelf, and on top of it were three picture frames. One was of Y/N's mother, Aubrey, and his father, Michael, with a five-year-old Y/N. The other was of the school science fair in 2016, where Y/N, Peter, Gwen, Ned, and MJ posed with the boys' certificates. The last photo was of Y/N, MJ, and Harry on the ESU campus lawn, smiling for a self-portrait taken by Y/N.
Passing by a wall containing the up-to-date October 2029 calendar and photos of the Brooklyn Bridge and Empire State Building, there was another shelf containing comics, DVDs, and a flower pot with an purple anemone. Beside it was another framed picture of Y/N with May Parker and his half-sister, Anya L/N, at F.E.A.S.T, which had been taken a few months ago.
A small table beside it was scattered with scraps of paper, pens, tape, and other various instruments. An open notebook displayed sketches of potential new gadgets and improvements to current ones. A half-eaten carton of chow mein from the local Chinese take-out spot was by the map, along with a Forbes magazine with NYC Mayor Norman Osborn on the cover.
On the desk touching the table were a couple of jars labeled VACATION $$$ and NEW LAPTOP $$$ that had barely anything in them. Small tools, snack wrappers, and paper scraps were scattered across the desk. Beneath a magnifying glass by the edge, an inside-out Spider-Man mask was connected to a working laptop, which was currently running a program.
The wall above the bed beside the desk contained several Daily Bugle newspaper clippings, with varying headlines involving Mac Gargan as Scorpion, Max Dillon as Electro, Adrian Toomes as Vulture, Aleksei Sytsevich as Rhino, and Wilson Fisk, who was recently outed for criminal activity as the Kingpin. There were also a few other clippings dealing with smaller-scale events, such as a drug lab bust in Harlem and a rescue during a fire in Two Bridges.
There were a few more clippings on the next wall beside it. One headlined a takedown of a criminal group called The Wrecking Crew by the Young Avengers in California. Another was a magazine article about Randy Robertson, who had gotten an Oscar nomination for his recent acting role.
The last one was an article from five months ago about Matt Murdock and the revelation of his alter-ego as Daredevil thanks to Kingpin outing him. Matt had been in hiding since then while Foggy Nelson ran their law firm.
By the bedside dresser, a bunch of Post-it notes were stuck to it along with the wall above. They contained old and new reminders, mainly dealing with work deadlines and his rent. There was another picture frame by the lamp and charging cell phone, which was of Y/N, Michael, May, Anya, and Peter outside Madison Square Garden.
The phone suddenly vibrated. It quickly woke the sleeping Y/N, who flailed his arm and reached for the device. He groaned and picked it up, opening his eyes to see what the alert was about.
POLICE SCANNER ALERT
CALL IN PROGRESS
Y/N tapped the notification and opened his police scanner app. He listened to the radio call.
"All units, Level 4 mobilization. Location: Fisk Tower."
The groggy young man immediately sat up, eyes wide and fully awake. He kept looking at the phone.
"Fisk?"
He put his phone down and hopped off the bed, going for the pantry a few steps from his bed in the small studio apartment. Y/N took two slices of bread from the bag and tossed them into his automated toaster, which quickly got to toasting.
Y/N went to the corner of the room, where he had some boxes, trash, and his framed bachelor's degree on the wall. Some clothes hung from a rack, but he instead went straight for his costume on the floor. He picked it up and took a whiff of itโit had been a while since he'd washed it.
"Ugh..."
He tossed it on the bed and went to his desk, where he picked up his web-shooters. He placed them on his wristbands and toggled them on, then webbed the two pieces of toast just as they popped out.
With his breakfast in his mouth, he hopped around the room as he put on the pants of his costume. He then put on his boots, the top part of the suit, and his gloves, then grabbed the mask on his desk. Y/N put it on, completing his Spider-Man suit.
Y/N adjusted his lenses and booted up the HUD installed in his mask, something he had done in the last year. Suddenly, there was a knock on his door, and an envelope slipped through its crack. He zoomed in on it and noticed another urgent notice for past-due rent payment.
The hero sighed and shook his head. The phone connected to his HUD was still sounding off on the bed, continuing to alert him of the situation.
"SWAT is 10-84 at Fisk Tower. All units standby, warrant is en route."
Y/N walked over to the envelope on the floor, wondering if he should look and read through the notice for once. He took another step forward...
Ultimately, Spider-Man turned back around and leaped out of his open window.
He dove down and quickly initiated a swing through the street. He let go of the line and ran along a rooftop railing before leaping off it and propelling himself with his webs like a slingshot.
He somersaulted into another swing through the street, following the police chopper headed to the scene.
Using the comm feature in his mask, Y/N made a call mid-swing.
"Captain Watanabe."
"Did you take him down yet?" Y/N asked.
"No. We're at Fisk Tower, but still waiting on the warrant."
"Mind if I join in on the fun?"
"You know how his lawyers are...this one needs to go by the book."
"C'mon Yuri, I've been waiting years for this. Ever since I was a wee little lad in high school."
She relented. "You really want to help? Head to Times Square, sounds like his guys are trying to keep my backup from reaching the scene..."
"You got it! Almost there!"
The call ended. Y/N continued swinging through the city, cutting through Koreatown and zipping past Midtown South. Moments later, he got a call and quickly answered it.
"Hello?"
His boss was on the line. She spoke in an urgent tone.
"L/N? Where are you? We must run through the demonstration at least once before the grant committee arrives."
"Uhh, yes. Sorry. Yes. Dealing with a...personal issue. I'll be in soon. Promise."
Y/N hung up the call. He cringed at the quick and rather unprofessional interaction.
"Yeesh, better wrap this up quick, then get to my real job." He remarked.
Spider-Man swung down Broadway. He could hear the police sirens and choppers ahead, even spotting the cruisers speeding down the street below.
"Looks like Yuri called in the cavalry."
Meanwhile, the units in Times Square were in a shootout with Fisk's loyal henchmen. They were armed to the teeth and with some sporting body armor.
The officers were fired upon and took cover behind their vehicles. Fisk's henchmen were unrelenting and continued to unload on them.
"We need more backup!" An officer shouted.
"10-32. Times Square." Another radioed. "Officers under fire!"
A Fisk thug held up his arm and motioned the men behind him to stop shooting. He spoke into his comms.
"Bring in the hammer."
The group of thugs backed away. An officer peeked out of cover and aimed his gun, ready to fire, but saw that the henchmen were nowhere to be seen. Before he could question it, he heard a loud horn to his left and saw an incoming truck approaching them.
"MOVE!" He shouted.
The tanker truck was used as a battering ram and crashed into a few of the police cruisers. Thankfully, the officers could dive out of the way and come out unscathed. The truck crashed into the side of a building, where the fuel tank ended up tipping over and exploding.
The officers were dazed from the blast and laid across the floor. Kingpin's henchmen came out of their hiding spot, readying their rifles to finish off the defeated police. One officer, Lieutenant Drake, looked up at the Fisk thug who had a gun trained on him.
Suddenly, a succession of web lines pulled the rifles out of the thugs' hands. They all looked up in confusion, but their expressions changed to anger upon seeing the web-slinger land between them and Lieutenant Drake.
"Get him!" One thug exclaimed.
"Morning, guys!" Y/N called out. "Who's ready for their hot, fresh cup of bodily harm?"
The officers left the scene. Before they could engage him, Y/N acted first and zipped to one of the thugs, kicking him into the side of a car. He quickly moved to the next man, where he kicked him twice and then sent him flying with an uppercut. Another henchman ran at him, but he backflipped over the man, pulling him into the air via a web-line and punching him while in the sky.
Y/N landed on his feet, with the hurt man landing face-first into the asphalt.
"Gotta warn ya, I'm feeling punchy today."
There were a few more thugs in the area. Spider-Man webbed a manhole cover and swung it around, hitting three directly in the face and sending them back. He then threw it straight into the chest of the last thug, where the force sent him barreling into the wall.
Suddenly, another truck arrived, crashing through one of the wrecked police cruisers. Three more henchmen came out of it, with two of them carrying handguns.
"Ah. More of them."
"Just shoot him!" One thug told the other.
The man aimed his gun and fired, but Y/N dodged the bullet with a handspring to his right before shooting a web at the weapon. It enveloped the gun and his entire hand, allowing Y/N to shoot more webs where the thug was ultimately stuck to the side of the truck within a web cocoon.
"Ugh!" He grunted.
The other thug fired, but Y/N dodged again. He zipped to the man and landed a quick succession of kicks and punches, taking him down. Y/N thought the last unarmed man was all that would be left, but three more Fisk thugs arrived.
"Come on, freak! Want some?"
Y/N sighed. "Man, Fisk has a ton of guys on his payroll."
Spider-Man engaged the remaining thugs in Times Square. He webbed the rifle out of one of their hands and flung it into the face of another. With immense speed, Y/N dashed toward one thug and kicked him directly in the chest, sending him flying down the street, where he hit his head on a fire hydrant.
As he fought the rest, he got a call from Yuri. She sounded frantic.
"Spider-Man, what's your status?"
"Almost done here. You?"
"We're about to go in."
"Be there soon. Can't wait to see Willie's face when you slap the cuffs on him."
The call ended. Spider-Man dealt with the next unarmed thugs rather quickly, displaying his combat expertise and almost decade-long superhero experience.
Y/N took a breath and looked around at the defeated thugs. He called Yuri to inform her.
"Okay, Yuri, all done. What's happenโ"
There was a rumbling, and Y/N could see an explosion a few blocks ahead near Fisk Tower. The fireball was rather significant, and the hero feared the possible casualties of both officers and civilians. It also let him know that Wilson Fisk would not go down quietly.
More sirens were heard as backup sped down the road toward Fisk Tower. Spider-Man stared ahead with his eyes wide and alert.
"Yuri?!" Spider-Man leaped and initiated a swing toward the scene. "Yuri?!"
IT WAS A BATTLEGROUND in front of Fisk Tower. Police and henchmen on Kingpin's payroll were in a prolonged firefight. Fisk was surely not going to let himself go down easily.
"Get more backup!" Yuri shouted into a walkie as she took cover. "And lock down the airspace."
Moments later, Spider-Man arrived and perched on the side of the SWAT van she was behind.
"Yuri, you okay?" He asked.
She turned around and faced him. "If he makes it out of the building, we're gonna lose him."
Not on his watch, Y/N thought. After years of battling Fisk, including the last two where he had been way more ruthless in his criminal dealings since being betrayed by his children during the Arsenic Candy situation, he knew it'd be too dangerous to let him go this time. He needed to be behind bars for the rest of his life.
"I'm gonna go, uh..."
He pointed in the direction of the building. She glanced at the firefight ahead before looking back at him.
"Do your thing." She replied with a nod.
"Yes!" He pumped his fist and swung away. "Today's the day, Willie!"
Spider-Man swung toward the tower, avoiding gunfire from the thugs at the windows, and perched on the balconies. They continued shooting and were annoyed at how they were missing so badly.
"Take him out!"
"C'mon, c'monโkeep shooting!"
"Heads up!" Spider-Man called out.
He webbed the faces of two thugs on the balcony ahead and subdued them, leaving the third one alone and questioning what he was doing with his life. He tried to run away, but Spider-Man swung at him.
"Hey, where you going?"
Y/N grabbed him by the back of the collar and broke through the window with a kick. He entered the tower, where cops were currently in a shootout with the henchmen inside. Y/N threw the thug he had into the lobby.
"Catch!"
The thug impacted another thug, and they were both taken out. Spider-Man perched on a statue and called out to the police.
"I'll clear a path, follow me!"
"Get outta here, Spider-Man." An officer shouted back. "We got this!"
Spider-Man hopped off his perch and swung deeper into the lobby, landing where a group of Fisk thugs were. He landed on one enemy who was about to shoot down the officer who had talked back to him.
"Sorry to break it to you, but you do NOT got this, buddy." Spider-Man shot back.
Spider-Man started fighting the group of thugs. He webbed a stone trash bin, spinning it around and throwing it at a thug. He then ran at another, sliding through his legs before hitting him with a spinning back kick that sent him flying into a column.
"What's Spider-Man doing here?" Another cop asked. "He's gonna mess everything up!"
Y/N scoffed amidst the battle. "Thanks for the confidence boost, guys!"
Spider-Man saw one enemy coming and quickly sent him in the air with an uppercut. He jumped and landed a few more punches while they were both in the air. He let him drop before webbing a large planter and flinging it into another thug below.
"Quit lettin' him get airborne!" An enemy exclaimed.
Spider-Man zipped to another thug and whacked him with a succession of punches and kicks. Another thug aimed his rifle at the hero and was about to shoot, but Y/N dodged the gunfire. He webbed the nozzle of the firearm before web-zipping to the gunman and taking him down with a hard punch.
"I guess this is what they call a hostile workplace." Spider-Man quipped. "Aren't like half of you guys former Arsenic Candy? Candymen? Is that what you went by?"
"Enough already!" One thug shouted as he engaged the hero.
A tandem of three thugs went at him. Spider-Man dodged their hits and fought them with ease.
"Come on, he's one guy!" One man annoyingly remarked.
Spider-Man backflipped over one thug before encasing him in a web cocoon. He stuck him with a web line and swung his body around.
"He's got Davey!" His colleague exclaimed.
Another reacted. "Holy shit! He's flailing him around like frickin' merry-go-round!"
The thug Spider-Man had in his grasp shouted in fear as he was being sprung around.
"AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! I SHOULD'VE STAYED IN COLLEGE!"
Spider-Man finally threw the encased thug into a trio of goons nearby, taking them down. Spider-Man then easily defeated the remaining group of henchmen, allowing the officers to move further into the lobby.
The SWAT members went to the upper floor and tried calling the elevators. Unfortunately, they were shut down.
"They shut the elevators down!" The lead officer exclaimed. "Take the stairs!"
They followed orders and left toward the staircase. Spider-Man landed in front of the elevator doors and looked at them.
"I prefer a more direct approach." He remarked, using his strength to pry open the closed doors.
Spider-Man crawled up the elevator shaft. Meanwhile, he got a call from Yuri.
"Spider-Man, status?"
"Heading to the upper floors...and hoping nobody turns on the elevators..."
"Our choppers are taking fire, looks like Fisk has armed men on every floor."
"He's desperate..."
"...and he's hitting us with everything he's got."
Spider-Man made it to a grate and entered it. He crawled through the ventilation system.
"I have to find him and end this." He said with determination.
"Not yet. We just picked up chatter โ they're wiping all their data servers. We need that evidence if we want to put him away for good."
"Okay, server room it is."
He hung up the call. Moments later, he got another call and saw the name through his HUD.
"Call from May. Better answer." He said to himself before answering. "Uh...hi, May."
"What is all that noise?!" She said in an alert tone.
She could hear the popping of gunfire and echoing booms through the shaft. He quickly made up an excuse.
"Uhhh...watching an action movie. What's up?"
"I just wanted to make sure we were still on for dinner tomorrow night," May replied. "Anya wanted chile con carne, so that's on the menu."
Y/N dropped down from a vent and made it to an upper floor. Police and SWAT were still in a firefight with the thugs.
"Totally!" Y/N quickly replied. "Uh, listen...I gotta go!"
"Oh..okay, love you."
"Love you too."
Y/N hung up. He immediately engaged the thugs on his floor, webbing a couple with quick blasts of web and zipping to another. He kicked him off the balcony but made sure to stick him to the edge and dangle him there.
Spider-Man continued the fight, leaping around and making sure to land attacks from the air and bring the goons in the air with him. In the last couple of years, he learned that aerial attacks and sending enemies airborne left them vulnerable and easier to take down.
"Hold him!" One thug shouted. "Keep him from jumping around!"
"How exactly do you think that'll end for you?" Y/N shot back.
Spider-Man leaped at another thug and kicked him into the wall. He spun around quickly and hit the next thug with a quick three-piece combo. He sent him in the air with an uppercut before sticking him with a web line and slamming him back down to the floor.
"On to the next one. Regret your life choices yet?" He quipped.
He took down the last two thugs on the floor. Y/N looked around and took a breath.
"Gotta find that server room before there's no evidence left."
Spider-Man zipped up to the floor above him. He saw the doors to the server room but could sense Fisk's henchmen inside. He needed to find another way inside.
"If I go in this way, they'll destroy all the evidence. I should look for a sneaky way in." Y/N looked around until he spotted a vent on the ceiling. "There we go."
He zipped up and into the ventilation shaft, crawling through. "It's like my own private ventrance."
Y/N continued crawling through the ventilation system.
"Fisk may be a dirty criminal, but he has remarkably clean air vents." He remarked.
Fisk's thugs could be heard in the room beneath him. They were currently trying to delete the evidence and data on the servers.
"Hurry up! The boss wants everything erased!"
"I can't make it delete any faster."
Suddenly, one thug was webbed and pulled up into the ventilation shaft. Spider-Man encased him in webbing and stuck him to the top of it before continuing to crawl through the vents.
"They're so cute when they're oblivious." Y/N quipped.
He could still hear the thugs talking and worrying about the speed of the deletion and the incoming police. Y/N soon dropped down and entered the server room, shocking the thugs.
"Is this Geek Squad?" Spider-Man asked. "I forgot my password."
"Spider-Man!" One shouted.
Another thug readied his crowbar. "Don't let him near the console!"
Spider-Man shot a web at a grate above and pulled it down, causing it to land on two thugs and quickly incapacitating them. He sprinted at the thug with the crowbar, leaping him over as he swung his weapon before kicking him square in the back and sending him face-first into a desk.
As he fought the thugs, the automated system alerted them to the deletion time: forty seconds.
"Warning. Full deletion imminent."
"Stall him!" A thug exclaimed. "The system's still purging!"
"And I thought the I.T guys at my last job were rude." Y/N quipped mid-battle.
Spider-Man avoided gunfire from one armed thug and quickly took him down by flinging a desktop at his face. He then defeated the last two thugs with ease and noticed the system was about to delete the data in 12 seconds.
"Gotta access that console before everything's gone." Y/N ran over to the console and started accessing it. "Let's see just how good their security is."
He continued typing. To his surprise, getting in and stopping the countdown was relatively easy.
"Oh, you guys forgot the latest kernel patch, tsk-tsk..."
Suddenly, Wilson Fisk's face appeared on the large flat screen above. His booming voice reverberated throughout the room through the speakers.
"Hiding in the server room? Cowardly...even for you."
Y/N kept his eyes on the computer screen and clacked the keys. "Says the guy frantically erasing his search history."
Fisk scoffed. He sat back on his oversized leather chair and folded his hands.
"After all these years, you're still just an ignorant child..."
"True, but that's part of my charm, isn't it?"
Ultimately, Y/N stopped the deletion and saved the data. Fisk saw the process stop on his end and was irate.
"Damn you..." He turned to one of his men offscreen and shouted as he slammed his oversized fist down at his desk. "Get that door down, now!"
Y/N turned around and saw several thugs do just that. They entered the server room and were ready to engage the hero.
"Get past him! Destroy everything!" Fisk, whose voice still came through the speakers, commanded.
Spider-Man engaged the larger thug first, kicking him away before moving on to the two others behind him. Three other thugs ran over to assist, but the hero was still unable to be hit. He moved around the room with speed and agility as he took them all on. Fisk continued to speak.
"Look around you! I did this! What have you ever done that mattered?"
"Well, there was that time I took down a pompous, overstuffed crime lord before breakfast." Y/N quipped amidst the fight.
"Without me, the scum I kept in check will run rampant. And it'll be your fault." Fisk said. "People like Tombstone, like Silvermane, like Hammerhead, like Kingsley. You remember, don't you? A power vacuum that you will struggle to contain."
Spider-Man was down to the last two goons.
"Been a long, tough road, Fisk." Y/N replied. "Almost sad to see it end."
"Mere prelude."
With quickness, the hero defeated the thugs. He stood in place and let out a breath.
"Well, get ready for the main event."
Spider-Man ran out of the server room, where a sudden explosion made a large hole in the ceiling. He zipped through it and made it to the upper floor. He immediately called Captain Watanabe.
"Yuri, an explosion justโ"
"I saw it. Fisk could have the whole place wired. I'm sending in a bomb unit."
"I'll make sure no one gets in their way."
Y/N saw another group of thugs and confronted them. He webbed onto the wall and took on the next two, taking them down in less than ten seconds. Sometime later, the Bomb Squad team broke into the floor.
"It's clear, move up!" The leader exclaimed.
Spider-Man landed beside them in a three-point stance.
"Hey guys!" He greeted. "I guess bombs are part of Willie's getaway plan."
There was another explosion on the upper floor. They could all hear screams and shouts from civilians.
"Sounds like they're trapped..." Y/N said.
"You go after them, we'll look for the bombs." The lead officer told him.
The team kept moving. Spider-Man zipped up to the floor and saw people coming out of a fiery and smoky lobby. The hero called out to them.
"Everyone clear out! Evacuate the building!"
He ran through the smoke and pulled away debris, freeing a couple of trapped people.
"I heard more people back that way!" A woman pointed.
"I'll find them!"
He ran deeper into the room until he stumbled upon people that were trapped beneath the rubble. One young man called out to him.
"Spider-Man! We can't move, we're pinned down!"
"I'll lift it." He reassured them as he got beneath the broken support beam. "When you're free, get out, fast. If you can walk, help the injured. Got it?"
"Yโyes."
Spider-Man grunted as he lifted the heavy piece of debris. As he did, part of the ceiling collapsed on them, making the support beam heavier. Still, the hero kept it over his shoulders and protected the two trapped civilians.
"Oof! Argh...." He lifted it over his head. "ARGH!"
He stood up, had the broken beam high over his head, and freed the two people.
"Go, go, go!"
They quickly got up and moved out of the way. With one last grunt, Spider-Man threw the debris up and dove forward before it could crush him.
He came out unscathed, as did the two civilians.
"Thank you!" The young man thanked and ran off with his colleague. "He did it! Let's go!"
"Okay, Willie, comin' your way." Y/N said with a breath and ran,
Spider-Man left the fiery floor via the ventilation shaft. At the same time, he got a call from the Captain.
"Spider-Man, it's Yuri."
"How we doing, Captain?"
"Could be better. Our choppers took a beatingโwe just had to ground our last one. If Fisk calls in a chopper, we have no one to stop it from landing."
"And no one to chase him if he flies away..."
"Why do I get the feeling that's what he was planning all along?"
"Because he probably was."
Y/N came out of the vent and entered another floor. In the hallway, he saw many injured people being tended to by officers.
"Damn." He reacted. "Yuri, get EMTs up hereโfast!"
"We're trying."
The call ended. Y/N left the hallway and entered the next floor, perching onto a railing. Suddenly, his spider-sense alerted him of an incoming missile shot by an RPG-wielding thug.
"INCOMING!" Spider-Man shouted, alerting the officers nearby.
He leaped out of the way before zipping toward the thug, where kicked him hard into the wall and disarmed him of the rocket launcher. He webbed him to the floor for good measure.
"That's enough out of you..."
On the floor above, another launcher-wielding thug aimed at Spider-Man below. He shot at him, but the hero quickly dodged and swung toward him.
"More rockets?" Y/N reacted. "Little excessive, don't you think?"
He webbed the RPG out of his hand and flung it at another thug nearby. He took him down along with two other henchmen. Of course, one of them had an RPG as well.
"Whatโ? Is it National Rocket Day or something?"
He took him down with a hard kick to the face.
"Gotcha!"
Spider-Man ran over to some double doors, pulling them off its hinges with his webs. He ran through the smoky room, leaping over debris and diving through a gap into the next room.
"Man, how'd the bomb squad guys get through that?" Y/N asked himself.
He flipped over more debris on the staircase before encountering another group of thugs in the lobby. The shocked henchmen reacted.
"He's here!"
"Get him!"
"Settle down. I've got enough for everybody." Y/N quipped.
Spider-Man fought the thugs, webbing one to the window and flinging a planter into the chest of another. He took down the last thug by stepping onto a wall and propelling his fist into his face.
"Okay, room is clear. Bomb squad must be somewhere ahead hope they're okay."
Spider-Man went into the next room, surprisingly finding the bomb squad already there and standing in the middle of the room.
"You guys all right?" He asked them.
"We were just about to call for backup." The lead officer replied.
He shrugged. "I think I'm it."
"Lead the way. We'll be right behind you."
Y/N gave him a nod and stepped forward. As he got in front of them, the officer lowly spoke into his radio.
"Heads up, boss..."
They aimed their guns at Spider-Man. His senses immediately alerted him, and time seemed to slow as the hero looked over his shoulder.
Just as they fired, Spider-Man backflipped over the group, webbing the rifle out of the lead officer's grasp as he did. He landed behind them and flung the gun back at his face, knocking him out.
"So you guys were in bed with Fisk all along? Ugh, now I'll never get that image out of my head!"
Y/N zipped to the riot-shield-wielding officer, punching the shield once before sliding through his legs. His back was vulnerable, so he kicked him twice, sending him flying forward. He then uppercutted the next corrupt officer, sending him in the air before webbing him back into the floor.
"So your plan didn't work. On to Plan Bโgetting kicked in the face!"
He webbed the riot shield out of another officer and flung it at his colleague. He then shot a glob of webbing into the next enemy, disorienting him and allowing Spider-Man to land two kicks and a roundhouse that propelled him into the wall.
Spider-Man dealt with the corrupt bomb squad officers. He took a breath and jogged over to the large double doors of Fisk's office. He called Yuri to inform her of the situation.
"Hey, Yuri. Looks like some of your guys were on Fisk's payroll. Good news is, they were Willie's last line of defense. I'm right outside his office."
Although she didn't say it, she was furious that Fisk had gotten to her own men and used them for his benefit. With determination, she gave Spider-Man the order.
"Take him down. Now."
"With pleasure." He replied.
Kingpin was at his desk in his office, writing in a journal. He was rather calm despite the blaring sirens, rumbling explosions, and gunfire outside his building.
Spider-Man stuck to a pillar and called out to the stoic crime lord.
"Writing your memoirs?" Y/N asked. "Don't forget the hyphen between Spider and Man."
Fisk pressed a button on his intercom and spoke. "Get the chopper ready. I won't be long."
He cracked his knuckles and stood up from his seat. The large man had an all-black suit with a purple tie, paling in comparison to the white suit he'd usually wear times before.
"I'm surprised you made it this far," Kingpin said as he stepped into a small room behind his desk. "But your foolishness ends now."
A thick glass door closed in front of him. Spider-Man hopped off the pillar and landed several yards in front of it. He was kind of confused.
"Uh...you do know I can still see you, right?" He asked.
"Years upon years of this insolence..." Fisk scowled. "You and those costumes just never know when to quit."
"Yeah, we're all kinds of stubborn." Y/N jested.
Fisk still had an angry look on his face. He thought back to when Spider-Man first meddled with his business affairs, which led to the death of James Wesley, the time when Spider-Man and Daredevil teamed up and ruined his wedding, and when the web-slinger joined Hawkeye and Kate Bishop, took down the Tracksuit Draculas, and stopped his purchase of the super soldier serum. Even when Fisk returned later and regained the city's trust, Spider-Man was still there and kept being a thorn in his side.
Suddenly, two automatic turrets appeared in the room. Spider-Man's senses alerted him, and he looked at the guns.
"For me? You shouldn't have..."
They immediately fired at him. Y/N flipped and dodged the bullets, waiting for an opening. As they reloaded, the hero quickly webbed one of them and pulled it out of the pillar where it had been installed. He threw it straight at the thick glass door, damaging it.
"What are you doing?!" Fisk shouted.
Spider-Man did the same with the last turret. He webbed it up as he reloaded and threw it at Fisk, which shattered the glass and removed the only protection the crime lord had. He was furious.
"How is this happening?!"
"What's wrong, Willie?" Spider-Man stepped up and held his waist. "You seem angry..."
Kingpin clenched his fists and ran to his desk, slamming two fists into it and breaking it in half.
"I will DESTROY you!" He shouted.
Spider-Man faced him. This would be the first time the hero and the crime lord fought since their encounter over a year ago. At least this time, Fisk had no sword to slice him up.
"Take your best shot, tubby!" Y/N shot back.
Kingpin lifted a large piece of his desk and threw it at Spider-Man. He webbed it as it barreled toward him and flung it back at the villain. It caused him to stumble back and have the hero an opening.
He web-zipped at Fisk and landed a hard punch to his face. He then kicked himself off his chest and got in the air, where he webbed up his arms and zipped back down to hit him again. Kingpin shoulder-checked him, sending the hero rolling across the floor.
"Time to end this!" Kingpin yelled as he ripped the webs of his arms.
"You asked for it!" Y/N shouted back, webbing a stone trash bin and throwing it at him.
It hit Fisk and shattered upon impact, only stunning him for a second. The man was strongโhe had always beenโbut he had gotten bigger and more muscular in the last couple of years.
"You're out of your depth, boy!" Fisk bellowed. "This time, you won't walk away!"
"Whatever you say!"
Spider-Man engaged him again, sliding through his feet to avoid a punch by Kingpin. He was about to kick the man in the back, but Fisk reacted quickly, grabbing his foot and throwing him across the room. Y/N landed on his back with a grunt.
"I won't even kill you." Fisk said. "Once I unmask you, I'll paralyze you...keep you breathing as you wallow in the knowledge that you've been beaten."
He got back up just when Kingpin ran at him, but the hero avoided his charge by flipping over him. Y/N made sure to web him up and throw another chunk of debris at it. Still, Kingpin continued taunting him.
"And everyone that you mingled with, Kate Bishop, Murdock, once I find him, Miss Hardy, they will pay as well."
Y/N shot him with a web and wrapped his hands again. He zipped back to him, landing two hard punches at his face and kick. Kingpin broke free again and backhanded Spider-Man, sending him flying a few feet.
"And then I'll go after everyone you care about. Anyone dear to you. Whether that's a mother...a father...spouse...girlfriend...child..." Fisk continued. "You won't fathom the suffering they'll endure for what you've done to me all these years!"
Y/N grit his teeth as he thought about May, Anya, MJ, Peter, and everyone else. He got back up and faced the villain with clenched fists. Kingpin continued to scowl.
"Then...I might grant you the mercy of death."
Spider-Man kept staring at him. Despite the very real threat the villain just gave him, Y/N was calm and collected. He needed a clear head to take down Fisk once and for all.
"How long have you been rehearsing that, big boy?" He asked. "Since I crashed your wedding or...when I started making fat jokes?"
Fisk was enraged at his quip. "You tiresome annoyance!"
They engaged one another again. Y/N landed hits and dodged his attacks. He enveloped his arms in webbing again, giving him a chance to land a succession of attacks. Fisk ended up breaking through the webbing and grabbing the web-slinger.
He tackled the hero and ran through the wall, slammed him into a pipe, and tried to punch him, but Y/N moved out of the way and dodged it. Fisk then grabbed Spider-Man by the throat and threw him across the room.
He crashed through the wall, landing in the lobby outside his office. Y/N coughed and groaned as he laid on his stomach. Fisk stepped through the hole in the wall.
"You are everything that's wrong with this city!" He yelled.
"Huh..." The tattered and bruised Y/N slowly got up and faced him. "I was gonna say the same to you."
Fisk bellowed and charged Spider-Man. At the same time, a few more thugs entered the lobby to assist their boss. The hero made sure to deal with them, too, while also avoiding Kingpin's attacks.
Spider-Man pummeled a thug, but his spider-sense alerted him of an incoming chunk of debris being hurled at him. Y/N dove out of the way, and it hit the thug instead. Fisk snarled at the miss, not caring about the man he just hit.
He kept fighting off the goons and Fisk, ultimately taking down his muscle. This left only Kingpin and Spider-Man in the room, and they continued battling.
"You'll die as uselessly as you lived!"
"Take your best shot." Y/N butted.
They exchanged hits in the middle of the dilapidated lobby. Ultimately, Kingpin hit Spider-Man with a hard punch that dazed him, then picked him up and held him over his head. He slammed the hero down onto the floor.
"Argh!" Y/N grunted.
The large, bulky man knelt over Spider-Man, preparing to slam his fists into his face. Y/N moved out of the way just in time, but the impact of his fist on the weakened glass floor caused it to collapse beneath them.
They fell into the lower floor. In mid-air, Spider-Man grabbed Fisk and threw him to the ground. He then bounced off of him and slingshot himself back to the villain, where the impact caused them to crash through the floor into another space.
This time, Fisk grabbed Y/N's foot while in midair and slammed him into the floor of one of the walkways. He grabbed him again and threw him off, but Spider-Man quickly swung underneath the walkway and onto the window. He stared at Fisk before leaping at him, slingshotting himself once again and kicking the man off the walkway.
During their free fall, Spider-Man landed hit after hit across Kingpin's face, not letting the villain even get a swing in. Ultimately, they crashed through the weakened floor and fell into the main lobby, where Y/N quickly encased Fisk in a web cocoon before he could land head-first onto the floor.
The crime lord now hung upside down within the webbing. Spider-Man, also upside down, nonchalantly rappelled down his own web and was face-to-face with him.
"So, should we kiss now?" Y/N joked.
He writhed within the webbing and let out an angry grunt. At the same time, officers moved in and raised their guns at the now-defeated Kingpin. Y/N saw them.
"Nah, maybe later." He added.
Outside the tower, a cuffed, bruised, and tattered Wilson Fisk was being perp-walked toward the police van. Journalists and onlookers bustled around, trying to get a word from the accused crime lord.
Spider-Man was perched on top of the police van. He was in pretty high spirits and happy that the Kingpin was finally arrested.
"Finally off to Ryker's, huh?" He asked. "You know. I think you've got more enemies in there than I do."
Fisk glared. "If you think this will be more than a minor inconvenienceโ"
"Welp! Gotta go!" Y/N interjected. "Hey, good luck, Willie. I've got a feeling you're gonna need it."
Spider-Man swung away. Kingpin continued to grimace and shouted into the skies angrily at the hero.
"Idiot! I'm the one who kept order in this city!"
The police ignored his tirade and stuffed him into the back of the van. The villain continued shouting.
"One month! In one month, you'll wish you had me back!"
Finally, they shut the doors in his face and drove away.

PERCHED ON A flagpole on top of a building, Spider-Man relaxed a bit from the battle he had. He looked out into the streets below.
"The Kingpin is heading to prison. End of an era." He remarked. "Feel like I should celebrate. Maybe take a vacation..."
He took a breath, thinking about Matt. Now that Fisk was good and gone, he felt it should be safe to come out of hiding and possibly resume his Daredevil activities. He'd have to give him a call soon.
Y/N leaped off and swung through the streets. Moments later, Y/N got a call from his boss and quickly answered it.
"L/N, where are you? The committee will be here soon! We need to run an equipment check!"
"Uh, I'm almost there! Blocks away!"
"Ugh. Guess I'll just do it myself."
She hung up the call, but Y/N still responded despite her not being able to hear him.
"No, don't, it's not safe! Ugh!"
He continued swinging and now went a little faster. He loved the doc's enthusiasm, but it sometimes got her into trouble. He had to get there before she hurt herself.
Y/N made it to the laboratory. He made sure to get out of his tattered costume and changed into his work clothes, consisting of civilian garments and a lab coat. He entered the room.
"Sorry I'm late..."
He looked up and was in awe. His boss, Dr. Carolyn Trainer, had her waist connected to a mechanism that allowed her to manipulate a prosthetic hand.
"Huh. You started without me." Y/N added.
"The grant committee's director will be here soon." Carolyn said and chuckled. "It's fine, L/N. I invented this equipment. I think I can handle it."
Suddenly, something exploded nearby. An alarm sounded within the lab.
"The power dampener. Oh, man...!" Y/N reacted and tried to fix it. "Uh...maybe we should abort?!"
"Not yet." She ordered.
Several more consoles blew up, and a fire started on one of them. The equipment connected to Carolyn started to spark, shocking her a bit. Y/N quickly pushed the emergency shutdown button and helped his boss out of the mechanism.
"Dr. Trainer! Are you okay?"
He helped her up. The older woman let out a breath and recovered from the shock. She let out a cough.
"Another setback." She patted his arm, reassured. "But we're close."
Suddenly, the committee arrived and noticed the smoky room. Y/N picked up a fire extinguisher and put out the fire that started on one of the sparking consoles.
"Is anyone hurt?" The committee director asked.
"No..." Y/N answered. "ItโIt was all my faultโ"
"The energy levels exceeded our expectations." Dr. Trainer interjected and spoke to the director. "From a certain viewpoint, that's a very positive development."
"It doesn't smell very positive."
"I assure you, in the next phaseโ"
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves." She interjected, waving away smoke and coughing. "Is there somewhere else we can discuss this?"
Carolyn sighed, turning to her mentee.
"Maybe you should take the rest of the day off, Y/N."
"Butโ"
"We'll talk later." She added firmly.
Y/N relented and walked away. Carolyn and the committee stepped into the office and shut the door, leaving the young man alone.
The whole thing was a disaster. How could the dampener have failed? Although Dr. Trainer told Y/N to take the day off, he had to figure out what went wrong.
He couldn't leave without doing so, as he respected Dr. Trainer and promised to do his best as her protege. What they planned on doing would likely change the world and help millions of people, and he really wanted to be a part of that.
For the next several minutes, Y/N worked on figuring out the experiment's flaws. Afterward, he decided to leave the laboratory before he messed up anything else.
Y/N put his costume back on and swung through the city. At the same time, he got a call from Captain Watanabe.
"Spider-Man, it's Yuri."
"Fisk make it to Ryker's yet?" He asked mid-swing.
"Not Ryker's. Our boy qualifies for the VIP treatment...he's in The Raft."
"Ahhhโjoining Scorpion, Electro, and the rest...Fisk should be honoredโthat's esteemed company. Wouldn't have been surprised if he ended up at Ravencroft with his looney-toon of a son."
"Can you swing by the precinct? Got an issue that could benefit from your unique skill set."
"For you, Yuri: anything. I'm on my way."
Yuri Watanabe was on the police station roof. She went over to the railing and leaned over it with a pack of gum in hand. She took one out and was ready to pop it in her mouth.
"Now that you quit smoking, what do you tell people when you come up here?"
She scoffed and looked back, seeming Spider-Man perched on the a pole.
"That I need a break from their crap." She replied and chewed a piece of gum.
Spider-Man flipped off the pole and landed perfectly on the railing beside her.
"Fair enough." He said. "So why'd you call? Need a date to the policeman's ball?"
"You got a black and white suit?"
"Uhh..."
"No ball this year anyway." She added and gestured toward the signal tower nearby. "We spent too much integrating Oscorp's surveillance tech. It was...until an hour ago. The whole system went down. City wide. Every tower."
"How?"
"They tell me someone sabotaged the central server, and now all the towers are offline."
"Hm, inside job?"
"Maybe. I'll figure that out later." Yuri said. "Right now we need to get these towers back online. Fast."
"And you called me?" He touched his own heart. "Aw, that's sweet."
"I called someone I can trust." She stepped away from the railing. "Plus the signals are scrambled and we have no idea how to fix it."
"Ooh!" He flipped off the railing and landed on his feet. "I love a challenge."
"You break it, you buy it." She said as she sent to the door.
"Hey, I thought you trusted me!"
Yuri smirked and left. Y/N went to see what was up with the tower. He took out his phone and used his technical expertise to hack into it and look at the signals through his phone.
"Input bands have been shifted. Subtle."
With some light work, he successfully brought the tower back online. Yuri immediately called him.
"We just had a tower come back online, was that you?"
"Not just a pretty mask, eh?"
"Whatever you did, any chance you could do it to the other towers?"
"Sure. But just so you know. I had to sync up with the tower to fix it. I'm seeing all crime data in the area now. Looks like there's a break-in happening near me."
"Great. I've got units nearbyโ"
"Don't botherโI'm on it."
Y/N ended the call and dove off the rooftop.
Spider-Man ended up dealing with the break-in and subduing the thugs. He dusted off his hands and called Yuri.
"Okay. All wrapped up."
"Thanks for that. Now I'm seeing an assault near you."
Y/N leaped up and swung toward the ping on his HUD.
"You're in luck. Yuri." He replied and deepened his voice. "Your favorite tough but lovable, grizzled, seen-too-much detective is in town."
She knew what he was getting at.
"What? No, no, no, no, no, you promised you wouldn't do that anyโ"
"Spider-Cop."
"Please, no."
She quickly hung up. Some time later, Spider-Man made it to where the assault was happening, and saw thugs harassing a homeless lady.
"So, you're the snitch." The thug said.
"Back off, creep."
Another thug joined him. "Yep, she's the one."
"I said back off!" She shouted. "Leave me alone!"
Three more thugs showed up and threatened the lady. Immediately, Spider-Man shouted from his perch.
"Get away from her!"
"Aw crap." One reacted. "Spider-Man!"
Y/N zipped down and brought one thug to the floor. They immediately surrounded the hero and engaged him, but they were no match for him. Spider-Man took down the thugs with relative ease.
The last thug ended up grabbing the lady and holding her at gunpoint. Spider-Man saw this and stood his ground.
"Walk away now, or she's dead!" He threatened.
She grunted in his grasp. "Let me go!"
Spider-Man honed in closely, where time slowed as he raised his hand and shot a web at the man's gun. He pulled it out of his hand and zipped to him, landing a clean punch that knocked him out.
The lady stumbled forward and caught her breath.
"All clear, ma'am." He reassured her.
"I knew Jameson was wrong about you." She remarked. "You're a little weird, but you got a good heart."
"Have you got somewhere to go?"
The question pretty much put her off. "Hey, I can take care of myself."
"I'm sure you can," Y/N replied. "But just in case, there's a place called the F.E.A.S.T. Center."
"Seen it. I don't want charity."
She stepped away. Y/N raised his hands.
"They got the best wheatcakes in the city, hands down."
The woman turned around upon hearing that. She thought about it for a moment.
"Mom used to make those. Haven't had any...in a long time." She looked down for a bit before nodding. "I'll check it out. Thanks, Spider-Guy."
She walked off. Y/N stepped away and muttered.
"It's Spider-Man...oh well."
Spider-Man ended up fixing a couple more towers and stopping a few more crimes nearby. He even honed into an RFID signal at a rooftop by the train tracks, where he found an old backpack of his containing a menu from his first date with MJ. It brought back fond memories of that time.
Y/N fixed on more tower in the district and called Yuri.
"Well, got this district done. All in a day's work."
"All in a day's work for Spider-Cop?"
"Been doing a little thinking, Yuri. Policing's a young man's game, and Spider-Cop...well, he's no spring chicken."
"Please be going where I think you're going."
"As of today. Spider-Cop is officially retired."
"Oh, thank God." She let out a breath of relief. "I need a drink."
"We'll all drink tonight. Yuri, drunk to the memory of Spider-Cop's tireless..."
He heard nothing on the other end and barely realized she had ended the call.
"Yuri? Yuri, you there? Huh. Guess the emotion of the moment overwhelmed her."
Y/N swung off the rooftop. As he traversed, he got a call from Martin Li. He answered.
"Hello?"
"Y/N, it's Martin Li. I just wanted to let you know we need a little extra time to get set for May's partyโI guess the cake delivery is stuck in traffic."
Y/N remembered they were celebrating May's 10-year employment at F.E.A.S.T. He did not forget and was going to see her there.
"Oh, sure thing. Just let me know when you're ready, and I'll swing by."
"Great. Talk to you soon."
He hung up. Literally five seconds later, his landlord called. Funny enough, it was the son-in-law of his previous landlord, Mr. Ditkovich.
"Uh...hi, Mr. Muggins! If this is about the rentโ"
"Mr. L/N. This call serves as your third and final warning. Eviction proceedingsโ"
"Wait! I get paid at the end of the week. I canโ"
"Eviction proceedings will start Friday unless full payment IS received by close of business. Good day."
Y/N let out a groan. Upon getting a ping in his HUD, he swung away to deal with the incident.
Y/N ended up swinging to F.E.A.S.T. after getting a call from Martin.
He changed into the clothes in a duffel bag hidden on the rooftop and dropped down into the alley. Then, he walked to the front door of the shelter.
Y/N greeted a few of the people there. He saw his nine-year-old sister drawing with another kid at a table and approached them.
"Hey, guys."
Anya smiled. "Hi."
"Hey, Y/N." The boy greeted.
"What are you guys doing?" Y/N asked.
The boy was the first to show him his drawing.
"Look. I drew Cap."
It was a doodle of the current Captain America, Sam Wilson. Y/N nodded and was impressed by it.
"That's awesome. I like the colors, too. They make it pop." He said and looked at Anya. "And you?"
Anya quickly put her arms over what she was drawing and grinned mischievously.
"You can't see it yet." She said.
"Aww. Why not?"
"It's a surprise."
"Mmhm. Fine then." He rubbed her head. "I'm gonna steal your cake later, though."
He walked away. Anya reacted.
"No, you're not! So mean."
Y/N chuckled as he entered the kitchen. He saw Martin Li picking up some boxes.
"Hey, Mr. Li." He greeted the man.
"You're right on time." Martin grabbed his shoulder and looked into the cafeteria. "Just keep her distracted while we get everything ready."
"You got it."
Y/N left the kitchen and entered the dining room. May had a clipboard and was taking inventory of the supplies before her.
"Hey." Y/N greeted her with a smile. "There's the best stepmom in the world..."
She turned around and smiled at him.
"Y/N! What a nice surprise."
"Need some help?" He asked.
"Uh, yeah, sure." She looked at the supplies next to her but remembered something else. "Oh, there are some heavy boxes inโ"
Before she could walk away, the young man got in front of her.
"NO! No, no!" He startled her. "I mean, I mean...not yet. I meanโI came to, uh...I just wanted to talk."
She was a bit taken aback by his shift in demeanor and arched a brow.
"Okay..." She gestured to the table beside her. "Okay."
He quickly sat down and raised his hands, getting her attention from the kitchen behind her. She let out a chuckle at his sudden antics.
"Honey, are you in trouble?" She asked, then titled her head. "Do you need money?"
"No!" He stood back up and stammered. "No. I mean...I'm a little behind on my rent, but no, no...no, I'm fine."
"Girl problems again?" She questioned with a smirk.
Before May could turn around, Y/N grabbed her arm and got her attention again.
"What?" He replied loudly. "No, that's crazyโ"
"I still wish you and MJ could work things out. She's an amazing girlโ"
"She is, but..."
She chuckled and looked up from her clipboard, waving a finger at him as she turned around again.
"The two of you would make some very beautiful babiesโ"
"Wow!" Y/N exclaimed and got her attention again.
She looked back at him. He wasn't sure what else to say or do.
"Uh..."
"Y/N. What is it?" She put down her clipboard and sat down at the table. "Come on. You can tell me."
Y/N let out a sigh. He sat beside her, deciding to be genuine and speak from the heart.
"All these yearsโyou being there for me, my dad, for Peter. Helping me through college and helping Anya, all while working here. You sacrifice so much and ask for nothing. I just wish there were more people like you in the world."
May smiled. Martin came into the dining room with a group of other volunteers and a cart containing a large cake.
"He's right." He spoke to her. "Ten years ago, you walked in here and told me you were inspired by my mission to help others. Now, it's you who inspires me."
May got up. Y/N did as well and gave the woman a side hug. Martin Li continued.
"Thank you. May, for everything. Here's to many more years of service!"
Everyone applauded May Parker. Soon enough, everyone began the celebration and enjoyed the cake.
Y/N was finishing his slice of cake. He sat with Anya, who was eating hers. Despite what her older brother said before, he did not steal her piece.
"Want to see what I drew?" She suddenly asked.
He raised a brow. "Really? You're gonna show it to me now?"
"I wasn't finished yet. But now I am."
She put her cake to the side and opened her notebook. Anya flipped to a page and showed her brother what she was working on.
It was of Spider-Man, but the hero's costume was slightly different. It had a somewhat different design, and what caught his eye was the white spider that spread across his chest.
"Do you like it?"
"Huh." He nodded. "That's so cool. You trying to be Spidey's fashion designer or what?"
She laughed.
"No. I was just bored one day and thought of a cool design he could have. If I was Spider-Man or Spider-Girl..." She pointed at the white spider. "I'd have something like that."
Y/N was intrigued. He looked at the drawing closely and and smirked.
"Anya Sofia Corazรณn L/N, you are quite the imagineer."
She beamed at him. Y/N pulled out his phone.
"You know what? How about I send this to Spider-Man? Let him have a look at it. Maybe he'll end up liking it."
Her eyes widened. "Really? You'd do that?"
Y/N shrugged.
"You know me and him or buddies. I don't think he'd mind." Y/N replied. "Besides, he has brought up how he's looking for some cosmetic improvements."
"Yeah, his normal costume is getting kind of boring."
Y/N gave her a look, but he quickly brushed it off and snapped a photo of the drawing. He then put it away.
"Thanks, Y/N," Anya said and hugged him. "That's very cool of you to do."
Y/N rubbed her back. "Hey, like I said, that's a cool design. We'll see what he says about it."
Later, Y/N met up with Martin Li. He helped him put some stuff away.
"Thanks again for setting all this up." He told Martin.
"Oh, I just wish I could do more."
"Well, like May always says, If you help someoneโ"
"โyou help everyone." Martin finished the mantra she and the late Michael often said. "Ah, maybe we should send May to City Hall to have a word with the mayor..."
As they spoke, Y/N got a message from Dr. Trainer. He quickly excused himself.
"Oh, I gotta run. Um, thanks again for the party and everything. It really means a lot."
Y/N left the room. Martin nodded before returning to his work.
Y/N got back in costume and swung through the streets. Dr. Trainer had messaged him wondering how he was doing, so Y/N decided to call her and ask her the same thing.
"Doctor! How did it go with the committee? I'm so sorry I screwed things up."
"Not at all, Y/N. They're just nervous in the face of imminent triumph! They'll calm down; they always do."
"Should I head back to the lab for cleanup?"
"No, no. I'm stepping out for dinner anyhow; we'll resume tomorrow. Short break, then back to creating the future!"
She ended the call. Y/N loved the woman's optimism and valued that trait.
Since Carolyn had left the lab for the day, he decided it would be best to go there and work on some things in private. He continued swinging, making his way to the lab.
Y/N was out of costume and had his suit splayed out on the table in the office. It was dirty and tattered from the battle he had against Kingpin. And, of course, it was smelly.
Yeah, it was time for something new.
The young man also had the picture of Anya's drawing on the table. He looked it over, and after some contemplation, he decided to implement the design into the suit he was making.
Y/N honestly liked it. The thought of Anya being happy seeing her favorite superhero sporting her design made him happy too.
He continued working on the suit. Suddenly, the door to the office opened, and Dr. Trainer came in.
"L/N?"
Y/N was stunned and startled. He turned around.
"Dr. Trainer! Iโuh..." He pointed at the bag she had. "Watcha got there?"
"Chinese. If I knew you'd be here, I would'veโ" She caught sight of something behind him. "What are you working on?"
He got in her way as she stepped forward, blocking her sight line.
"Uh, just a side project."
Carolyn looked over his shoulder and stepped more forward. Not wanting to disrespect his mentor, he relented and stepped aside. The woman could clearly see the tattered Spider-Man suit.
"Of course." She looked at him. "It's you."
"IโI don't know what..."
"Oh, come on, L/N, it's obvious."
"Let me explain."
"I only wish you told me sooner."
"I wanted to," Y/N said. "But I was afraid that if word got out, my family might be in danger."
Carolyn nodded in understanding.
"Hm, yes. I guess if you design his equipment, you're bound to be a target, too."
"Yeah..." Y/N breathed out but quickly realized what she was inferring. He looked back up. "I mean...yeah!"
"Don't worry, your secret's safe." She reassuringly touched his arm. "I'll leave you to it."
Carolyn smiled at him and left the room. Y/N sighed in relief, considering Dr. Trainer believed he wasn't Spider-Man, but his equipment crafter. He'd take that any day.
With that, he resumed his work on the new suit.
Spider-Man came out of the lab wearing his new suit. He leaped onto a roof vent and another rooftop before jumping onto a flagpole.
He dove off it and slid across the side of a titled roof before jumping off. He zipped through the patio, passing a group of people sitting and eating.
"'Scuse me, late for work!"
Y/N let go of his web and spun in the air, the sunlight above beaming on him and shining off the material of his new and advanced suit.
He initiated his swing, dashing by pedestrians on the sidewalk. He gave them a two-finger salute.
"Comin' through!"
One woman on her phone called out to the hero and noticed his brand-new costume.
"Looking good, Spidey!"
Spider-Man glided his hand across the asphalt.
"Hello, New York!" He exclaimed.
He pulled himself up his web, flipping over a taxi cab and running across the top of an oncoming truck. He jumped off of it and slingshotted himself into the sky.
"New suit! Same old me!"
