THE DUO SNAPPED out of the vision Charles Xavier thrust upon them. They blinked their eyes a couple of times and glanced at each other. They were in awe at what they witnessed.
It felt weird initially for Y/N, to look into the eyes of Stephen Strange, his killer in the universe they were in. For Strange, he couldn't believe he had it in him to do such an act to a friend.
"You killed me." Y/N said as he looked at the Illuminati. He fixated his gaze on Supreme Strange. "You killed me."
Supreme Strange stood silent...as did everybody else. Y/N looked back down at his handcuffs.
"What...what did you tell Wanda?" He asked.
Maria spoke up. "What everybody else was told."
"That Y/N L/N, the Specter...the Wiccan, perished in our battle against Kang." Peggy added.
"The statue...what about the statue?" Strange stammered as he was in disgust at what they did. "You built a statue for him."
"The world needs heroes." Reed replied. "He was a symbol that the world today should idolize."
Stephen scoffed and glanced at Y/N. The young man was in a dejected state after witnessing his variant's death. The sorcerer raised his tone at the members.
"You're a bunch of traitors. Backstabbers. How can you do this to your friend?"
"Have you made sacrifices in your world?" Supreme Strange asked his doppelgรคnger.
Strange immediately remembered the war against Thanos and how he gave up the Time Stone knowing that half of life would be decimated. Along with the knowledge that five years later Tony Stark would have to kill himself to defeat the Titan.
"Yes." He muttered.
"You would've done the same. And I know, because I am you."
Strange made a disgusted face. Supreme Strange leaned forward in his seat.
"You mean to tell me you wouldn't act upon knowing there would be a reality-ending entity in your future?"
This time, Strange didn't reply.
"Luckily, you won't have to worry, since your Wanda cannot bear children whilst using the Darkhold." Supreme Strange added.
"We should commence the vote." Reed said.
"Vote?" Y/N finally spoke.
"Vote whether we send you back to your universe, memory wiped of the information we've told you...or immediate execution." Peggy explained.
"Like I said..." Y/N scoffed. "Judge, jury, and executioner. What a circus! My doppelgรคnger was right...what you've done will keep haunting you."
He was angry and justifiably so. He thought of Wanda in their current universe and how oblivious she was to the true nature of her husband's death. The hero continued.
"As a matter of fact, I might just join my Wanda in tearing you all apart. I might not have my powers but I'll find a way to make you regretโ"
"Stephen." Xavier called out.
Knowing what the man wanted, Supreme Strange flicked his wrist toward Y/N and he immediately fell to the floor. The regular Strange looked on in confusion.
"What the hell did you?" He asked.
"A simple incapacitation and memory wipe spell. We just demonstrated what we'll do to you too if we vote for the former."
The voting was about to commence, but suddenly, a siren blared and each member heard it.
"The building's been breached." Reed said.
"No shit, genius." Strange spat.
They heard rumbling outside their chambers. Captain Carter immediately called up the security footage.
"Status report on the sentries."
Several screens appeared in thin air in front of the Illuminati. The live feed showed Wanda Maximoff, in the body of 217 Wanda, fighting off the Ultron Sentries within the facility. They tried shooting at her but the witch was dismantling them with ease. The oil from the sentries spilled onto her as she tore them apart.
"She's headed for the child." Maria said.
Supreme Strange looked at Mordo and Professor X. "Watch them. We'll vote when we return."
Reed, Maria, Peggy, and Boltagon joined Strange and left the chambers. Once they were gone, Xavier spoke to the outsider Strange.
"Stephen, should you and Y/N manage to escape this chamber, you must guide America Chavez..."
Mordo shot up from his seat. "The hell are you saying?"
Xavier ignored him and kept speaking to Stephen. "Save the girl and get to the Book of Vishanti."
"Wait...you have the book here?" Stephen asked.
"Yes. Our Stephen built a waypoint."
"Charles!" Mordo exclaimed. "If they succeed in vanquishing the evil within Maximoff it will grant her the ability to conceive again. That will threaten their reality and who's to say the Void won't be powerful enough to cross into others? Into ours?"
"I don't believe it will happen. I believe they won't let it happen." Xavier said as he looked at Strange and the unconscious Y/N.
Charles had been consumed with guilt since he assisted in killing their Y/N. The man had been right, it haunted him for a while. He now had a chance to make it right somehow by letting the other Y/N have a chance to save his Wanda and have that child in the future. Maybe in that world...the offspring can overcome the Void. He was willing to take that chance.
"I trust that the heroes of their universe will handle it in a better manner than we did."
Christine Palmer ordered the other scientists to leave the premises. Ultron sentries ran by her and into the lobby to take on the threat. America looked through the glass, knowing who was coming.
"It's Wanda."
Palmer quickly ran to the console and tried to open the cell Chavez was in. The Biochamber had enabled a manual override which slowed down the scientist.
Outside the lab, the sentries ran into the smoke to try and stop Wanda. The blaster shots faded and a decapitated robot head rolled out passed the columns. It kept repeating the same phrase.
"Ultron commands you to halt."
Wanda walked out of the smoke, her white casual clothing covered in black oil that came from the sentries. She walked barefoot passed the pillars and crushed the robot head with her powers. She never wanted to hear the name Ultron again.
America saw the redhead walking toward them and she shouted at Christine, who was still trying to override the console.
"Hurry! Hurry! She's coming!"
She tried typing again but the screen scrambled and nothing was visible. Palmer knew it was Wanda that was manipulating it.
"Oh, no."
The witch kept walking toward the lab but before she can continue, Captain Carter landed in front of her, deactivating her jet pack.
Moments later, Black Bolt glided down and was soon joined by Captain Marvel. Mister Fantastic stretched down and landed. Supreme Strange floated and touched down beside Reed.
"Wanda, stop this." Strange ordered. "You possessed an innocent woman but you can still do the right thing."
"Stephen?" She asked with a tilt of her head. "Or a different Stephen, I presume."
He ignored the statement and continued. "Let her go. Now."
"Please, Wanda." Reed began and stepped forward. "I have children of my own. I understand your pain."
"Is their mother still alive?" She asked.
Reed nodded as he thought of Susan. "Yes."
"They are lucky...having both their parents. While the Wanda here has to raise them alone. But soon...they'll have their father back."
They didn't know how to respond. Some of them immediately thought of their Y/N and what they did to him.
But that was the wrong thing to do, especially in the presence of the Scarlet Witch.
Wanda could feel their guilt and looked into the minds of the ones experiencing it the most at the moment, which were Reed and Strange. In flashes, see witnessed the scenes of Y/N fighting the members and ultimately being killed by Stephen.
"You killed him..." She said in a rough Sokovian accent. "You murdered Y/N. This Wanda's husband."
Maria glanced at her colleagues, shocked that the witch was able to find out. Now exposed and knowing what she was capable of, they had to figure out what to do.
"It's way more complicated than you think." Strange said.
"It doesn't matter." She shot back. "Before I take the girl...I'm going to make sure you all get what you deserve."
Reed inhaled and glared at her. "Wanda. Black Bolt can destroy you with one whisper from his mouth."
Boltagon crossed his arms and smirked as he looked at Wanda. The redhead simply tilted her head and stared.
"What mouth?"
Boltagon raised a brow at her question but quickly realized his mouth was gone. The witch had used her powers to make it vanish but was still able to breathe through his nose.
Still, Black Bolt began to panic as he felt the lower half of his face. He had never experienced this much fear in his life. Boltagon was never able to talk normally before but not having his mouth shook him to his core.
Finally, he let out a shriek. The shockwave that formed in his throat couldn't expel out so the force was contained in his head. It blew up his brain and fractured his skull, with blood coming out of his nose and his eyes bulging out. The rods on the Inhuman's mask flickered before he fell to the floor, dead.
The rest of the Illuminati members looked on in shock. Reed Richards immediately stretched his arm out to try and grab Wanda, but the witch lifted him in the air. Using her sorcery, she began to shred the super-powered elastic man piece by piece to the point where he was just a head. Reed let out a pained yell before she blew him up.
With Boltagon and Richards dead, Maria looked at Peggy and Stephen and the trio was prepared to fight. Strange levitated and conjured a dome around them that kept Wanda within the space. If she were to touch the runes in any way, it'd damage her. It even granted a form of protection for the women. But he had to keep his mind focused on the spell to keep it active.
"Keep the barrier up. We'll handle her." Maria told Strange before flying up.
Captain Marvel shot a beam of cosmic energy at Wanda but she deflected it with a barrier of crimson psionics. Captain Carter was running on the side and Wanda tried to shoot her, but she missed and Peggy threw her shield.
Wanda stopped it in mid-air and threw it at a wall where it stuck. Maria kept blasting but Wanda blocked it again, this time it ricocheted toward the floor and knocked both her and an incoming Peggy off their feet.
The witch quickly got up and fired energy blasts at Peggy but the Captain evaded them. Maria tried shooting at the distracted Wanda but the redhead turned back around and held back her beam. The redhead lifted one of the statues in the lobby and threw it at Maria, which knocked her through the wall.
Smoke from the fireballs and dust from the crumbling concrete filled the lobby. Wanda looked around for Peggy and could hear her faint footsteps. She turned around right as Carter threw herself at Wanda, knocking her down with the shield.
Wanda rolled back on her feet and Peggy got in a stance. The redhead glared at the Captain.
"Haven't you had enough?" She asked.
Peggy spat out blood. "I can do this all day."
She tried to hit Wanda with her shield but the redhead ducked. She tried to punch Peggy with her crimson-hued hand but was blocked by her shield. They kept fighting until Wanda was ultimately able to throw her aside with her psionics.
Captain Carter dragged her hands and feet across the floor to catch herself. She then got up and threw her shield at Wanda.
The witch simply caught it in midair, spinning around and heaving it back at Peggy with her powers. At high speed, the vibranium disc impacted her stomach and went through, bisecting her. The bloodied shield impaled into the wall behind her as the two halves of Carter's body fell to the floor.
Captain Marvel came out of the hole she crashed through and fired at Wanda. The witch kept her at bay again, this time lifting chunks of concrete from the ground to block her attacks. Maria dove through the debris and tried to strike Wanda with her charged fist, but the redhead formed a barrier and kept her away.
The two flew up and spun around as their respective beams collided. Maria bellowed at Wanda.
"Get the hell out of my universe!"
She tried expelling more cosmic energy to try and kill Wanda, but it backfired as the witch began to absorb her Tesseract-infused power. Maria's protective shield and gear started to tear off. Finally, Wanda shot more energy and caused the bubble they formed to blow up, sending them flying in different directions.
Glass from the roof shattered and covered the entire floor of the lobby. Maria hit the side of a large statue and fell to the ground. Wanda rolled across the shards of glass but the pain didn't phase her. She simply looked up, seeing the damaged statue above Rambeau, and knew what to do.
She used her psionics to pull the statue off its pedestal. Maria looked up and saw it about to fall on her. She put her hands up to shield her face but it made no difference. The statue crushed her.
Wanda got to her feet and let out a breath. That was four of the six dealt with. She knew the fifth one was now focused on her, as the shield surrounding them dissipated. She turned around and saw Supreme Strange standing.
"Look at what you've done, Wanda." He said with disdain.
"Yes. I see what I've done. I've enacted retribution. I avenged this world's Y/N."
"This is not avenging. This a massacre. Murder."
"How ironic." She replied. "But there's still that bald man...and you."
Strange glared and then slammed his fist down the floor. Two portals opened up where large serpent creatures came out and growled at Wanda. Before they can attack, the Scarlet Witch simply held them in place before vaporizing them.
The sorcerer conjured the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak that wrapped Wanda, but couldn't be held in place long enough as the witch ripped them. She quickly counterattacked by pushing him back with a blast of energy.
Wanda launched herself at the downed Strange but the man rolled out of the way. Now in close quarters, Strange resorted to fighting her hand-to-hand. She blocked his hits with miniature shields she conjured but the sorcerer was able to land a kick that pushed her away.
Strange called upon the Sacred Sword of Vishanti and charged at Wanda. The witch was now on the defensive and dodged his swipes. Strange was attacking erratically and he was demonstrating his swordsmanship. Ultimately, Stephen ended up getting an opening and stabbed her through the chest.
Wanda groaned as she looked down at the blade. She slowly gazed up at Strange, who was panting and had a sorrowful expression. First, he killed his friend...and now his wife.
"I'm...I'm sorry." He said.
Suddenly, Wanda gave a menacing smile. Her body began to dissipate until her figure completely vanished off the sword.
Strange looked on in confusion but didn't have time to react as he was stabbed through the back instead. Wanda stood behind him, the crimson blade of energy she conjured protruding through the man's chest...the same way that earth's Y/N was killed. Strange gasped and looked blankly ahead.
"How does that feel, Strange?" She taunted before pulling that blade out.
Supreme Strange fell to the floor, where he quickly bled out and died. The blade dissipated from Wanda's grasp and she fixated her eyes back on the lab.
America witnessed it all as Palmer kept trying to override the system. After the attempts were fruitless she tried to open the doors herself.
"It's sealed shut!"
They looked out the door and saw Wanda slowly walking toward them. Christine backed away and grabbed a fire extinguisher, where she tried to break the polycarbonate glass.
It was no use. Once Wanda came inside, America punched the glass out of fear and ended up cracking it with her enhanced strength. The crack was also star-shaped.
"Whoa..." She breathed out.
Palmer did the same. "Whoa."
It would have to take more hits though, and they wouldn't have time since Wanda was already staring at her from the other side of the cell. Before she can act, there was a shout from the other side of the room.
"Enough!"
They all looked toward the source of the shout and saw Charles Xavier floating in on his hoverchair. Wanda glared and lifted her crimson-hued hands, prepared to attack.
Xavier put one hand at his temple and reached the other out toward Wanda. He used his telepathic abilities to get into the head of the Wanda variant...
In the white void, a walking Charles Xavier stepped through a broken door. In the distance, there was a pile of rubble which he walked towards.
This all signified Wanda's past, with the damaged entrance and pile of debris referencing her experience in a war-torn Sokovia as a child.
A cracked television playing an episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show lay on top of the rocks. There was a prevalent gap between the rubble and he crouched down to look into the hole. He peeped closer...and got startled once an arm came out.
It was the 217 Wanda.
"Help me...please." She breathed out.
"Wanda Maximoff!" Charles exclaimed. "Your mind is being held hostage by your alternate self."
The pile of rubble on top of her shook and air-raid sirens blared. It slowly started to cave in.
"Grab my hand!" He shouted, which she did. "Perhaps if I can pull you out of the rubble the spell will break!"
Charles strained as he began to pull. A blood-colored fog started to engulf the area and was close to enveloping them. The old man can sense it, no matter what he tried...it wasn't going to work. His own head started to fill with echoing voices.
217 Wanda willingly let go of his hand and glared at Xavier. Thanks to her variant, it was also revealed to her the true intentions of her husband's death.
"First you let Lehnsherr die and then my Y/N..." She spoke. "The bill came due."
Suddenly, the Scarlet Witch came out of the fog and split Xavier's head into two.
Xavier was snapped back into reality. Having died in his mind, the old man seized for a moment before falling forward on his chair, ultimately dying physically from a neck snap.
Those involved with 217 Y/N's death were now dealt with. It was time to continue with her initial plan. Wanda looked over at the cell America was in, but saw that she, along with Palmer, were gone. A large star-shaped hole was through the glass.
While everything was happening, Stephen Strange, Karl Mordo, and an unconscious Y/N were still in the chambers. There was rumbling and dust fell from the ceiling.
"Take me to the Book of Vishanti so that we can fight her together!" Strange exclaimed.
"You are in no position to give orders!" Mordo snapped back. "My vote will conclude these proceedings when they return."
After a couple of minutes, there was another rumbling. As more time went by, the more Mordo began to realize he was on a losing side.
"I can guarantee she looked into their heads and found out about their acts against Y/N. They are not coming back."
Stephen turned around and sighed. He stayed quiet for a second before speaking again.
"But they deserved it, you know? Like your so-called friend once said, they were going to regret it. He even mirrored what my Mordo once said...the bill always comes due."
Stephen turned back around and looked up at Mordo, who was intrigued to hear about his variant.
"You know you hated me where I come from. Always had ill intentions and sought something to gain. I bet you really rubbed off on me here, brother. You probably convinced me to go through on killing Y/N, jealous of his standing.
Mordo scoffed as he paced around. Strange continued.
"I bet you were thrilled with the news of Y/N's seat being available."
"You know nothing of this universe!" He shouted.
"I know that the death of the Wiccan was your ticket to becoming second in command of Kamar-Taj and joining your circus of clowns, the Illuminati!"
"And now she's mine!" He suddenly snapped, which garnered a confused look from Strange. Mordo shook his head and looked down before continuing.
"When Maximoff first arrived with Y/N at Kamar-Taj...I felt something I never had before. They trained together...he gained mastery in sorcery and became the Wiccan, then they had children. For so long I just watched...seeing him have what I couldn't." He said. "Fortunately, with Stephen looking into the handful of universes that he did, it gave us a reason to remove Y/N from the picture."
Stephen was in awe. It disgusted him that Mordo had ulterior motives this whole time. He didn't support eliminating Y/N because of his potential threat to their universe, but because of jealousy and wanting Wanda for himself.
"You make me sick. Why would Wanda want you? She never would. In an infinite amount of universes, she loves only one person...Y/N. And you all killed him."
He glared. "If I couldn't have her, then nobody should."
Suddenly, Y/N began to stir awake. Stephen glanced at his friend on the ground and then crouched down to help him. Mordo looked at them from up on the platform.
"I'm ready..." He exclaimed and unsheathed the sword from his back. "To cast my vote."
