THE SCARLET WITCH shot an energy beam at Doctor Strange. Fortunately, the sorcerers below had conjured a force field using their hand shields around the temple.
Strange flew back down toward Wong. Y/N looked at Wanda, saddened, before following the wizard.
"I say we nailed it." Strange said sarcastically, but Y/N didn't respond.
Back above, Wanda looked at the barrier in anger and started flying around it. Wong took notice and shouted at his people.
"Reinforce the shield!"
The sorcerers started shifting around to strengthen the barrier around Kamar-Taj. Wanda kept shooting energy blasts but none could get through the shield.
She suddenly stopped. The witch looked through the shield and surveyed the expressions of individual sorcerers. Many stared back, eyes filled with determination on guarding their home.
Stephen knew what she was doing. Y/N also recognized that look whenever she'd get into someone's mind.
"She's trying to get into their heads." Y/N told Wong.
The Sorcerer Supreme took the information and shouted at the Masters of the Mystic Arts.
"Sorcerers! Fortify your mind!"
During the commotion, Wanda found one young magic-user within the crowd. By the look on his face, she can tell the student was fearful. Second by second as she stared at him...it became easier to get into his thoughts.
He stared back at the floating witch in the sky. Suddenly, he felt an ominous presence behind him. He didn't turn his head, out of immense fear of what it could be.
It was The Scarlet Witch. She got closer to his ear and whispered into it.
"Run."
She immediately vanished. The young man's hands shook and his shields were flickering. Back in the sky, Wanda looked down and smiled menacingly.
The man quickly ran away, running into his fellow sorcerers and breaking their focus on the barrier. The shield they formed started to open up, which allowed Wanda to form a large crimson energy ball and shoot it at the temple.
It hit the grounds of Kamar-Taj and sorcerers in the area flew back at the explosion. Large chunks of rubble launched at Y/N and other students, but Specter protected them by forming an energy shield.
The entire force field around the temple came down. Wong looked up at the witch and he knew she would advance.
"The shields are down!" He exclaimed.
Wanda flew toward the temple. A sorcerer used a sling ring to transport a cannon to the grounds. They shot at The Scarlet Witch with both arrows and cannon fire, with one projectile successfully hitting her. Wanda was flung backward but quickly recovered.
She looked at one of the towers with the cannons and used her telekinesis to lift the group of sorcerers and the concrete below them. She tore it apart and sent the magic users flying. She then used a part from the broken cannon and launched it at another group of sorcerers manning a cannon.
"Take cover!" Sara yelled, but the object impacted their area and sent them all to the floor. She was immediately rendered unconscious.
"Fire at will!" Wong commanded the archers.
They fired at Wanda, but she dealt with the nuisances with ease.
The witch shot beams at the sorcerers on the ground, blowing up the floor. She stopped arrows in mid-air and shot them back at the archers. She blasted more towers containing the magic users and began to lay waste to the temple. Wong looked on in horror.
"Fall back!" Strange exclaimed.
The remaining forces listened and started to run back. Stephen motioned Wong to follow and he listened, but the Sorcerer Supreme looked at Y/N before he did.
"You have to keep her busy." Wong said.
"What?" He asked.
"Survivors need a chance to escape, and we need to find a way to get Chavez out of here. Time is of the essence."
"I...I can't...I can't fightβ" Y/N stammered.
"I know it's hard. But it's what needs to be done. That girl needs all the help she can get. Even from the Specter."
Y/N looked up and saw Wanda still fighting off the sorcerers ahead. He let out a sigh, then nodded at Wong. Immediately, he soared upward to engage the witch.
A sorcerer shot his bow and arrow at Wanda, but the redhead lifted her and disintegrated her weapon. She threw the woman on the floor and was about to blast her, but Specter flew in and blocked the orb with an energy shield. It ricocheted off but Wanda weaved away before it could hit her.
"Is this really what you are doing?" She asked. "Facing off against the love of your life?"
"Look at what you are doing, Wanda." He replied as he floated in front of her. "You're destroying these people's home! You're killing them!"
"They're keeping me from seeing my boys again. My princess. Put yourself in my position and you'd do the same."
He shook his head. "This isn't you. That damn book...it's messing with your mind. Just like Agatha!"
Wanda chuckled. "She never really understood how to use it. That's why she coveted my power because it's the only way to utilize it at its full potential."
"Can you hear how you're speaking? That's how I know it's not you. Wanda...please."
She didn't say a word. When she finally did, her face was expressionless.
"Do you love them?" She asked. "Our children?"
"Of course! I'll always cherish the times I spent with them...and they're in my heart. But...they're not here, Wands. You have to accept that."
"If you really loved them...you wouldn't give up on them so easily. But a mother's love is unbreakable, and if someone's in the way of hindering that bond..." She started swirling energy around her palm. "That can make her dangerous."
The Scarlet Witch shot a beam at Specter, but the young man's quick reflexes were able to shield him.
His plan of attack was to not attack. He couldn't get himself to harm Wanda, even though she was intent on hurting him and others. He was on the defensive, mostly to buy Wong and the sorcerers time.
Wanda kept throwing crimson energy orbs at Specter, who would dodge or block them with his energy shield. They soared above Kamar-Taj in an aerial battle.
"I'm not gonna fight you, Wanda!" He shouted as he evaded another psionic beam.
"So be it!" She shouted back in a much rougher accent. He knew it was mostly the corruption within her speaking.
Y/N landed on the roof of one building. Wanda dove down at him, but he used his phasing ability to drop through the ceiling and into a room. Before he can leave, Wanda tore the roof off the building and exposed the hero.
She threw chunks of the dilapidated roofing at Specter, but the man immediately flew out of the building. Before Wanda engage him again, Y/N enabled his invisibility.
The Scarlet Witch floated in the air and glanced around. There was no sign of him, but he wouldn't be hidden for long.
Wanda closed her eyes and honed in on her senses. After a few seconds, she heard the inner thoughts of Y/N behind her. She opened her eyes, which were now glowing red, and turned around. She saw the outline of Y/N's soul in the distance, where she quickly shot him with an energy beam.
It hit Specter and sent him flying down to the ruined grounds of the temple. He rolled across the rubble and onto his back beside a toppled column. He was in pain as the chaos magic surely hurt like hell, even to a durable being like Y/N.
Wanda descended and touched down in front of the grounded Specter. He eyes continued to glow red as she looked at him.
"I warned you..."
Y/N coughed as he held his side, looking up at her. "I do love them, Wanda. And I always will."
"Save it, Specter." Her accent got rougher again.
He took in a breath but continued.
"They were my everything. You're right. If I were given the chance to be with them again...I'd take it. Being a father was the greatest thing I ever experienced."
Y/N kept speaking. "But...I moved on. We have to after losing someone we love. Like my parents...my grandmother...like Vision. And it seemed easy for me because I had you."
The Scarlet Witch stayed quiet, still looking down at Y/N. The man sat up against the toppled column and groaned.
"Everything was easy because you were still there. You are my everything, Wanda. Even with them gone, I still had you. After every dream, every nightmare, I wake up knowing you are there. That's what keeps me sane after everything we've been through."
Wanda's eyes reverted to their normal color. Her angered expression softened.
"Don't you...don't you feel the same way, moja lΓ‘ska (my love)?" He added.
Those words seemed to have let the real Wanda resurface for a moment. She looked down at Y/N with a saddened look, but before the moment could last...Y/N noticed a sorcerer behind the redhead charge at her.
"No!" Y/N yelled.
Wanda quickly turned around and used her powers to freeze the man in place. With a menacing glare, she lifted the man and little by little forced the blade he was holding to creep closer to his neck.
"Wanda! Don't!" Y/N pleaded, not wanting her to kill anymore.
She looked at Y/N, now back to being in her angered state.
"You're willing to spare the life of my attempted murderer?" She shook her head. "So much for being your everything."
She wasn't stopping and the blade kept getting closer. Y/N quickly used his remaining to shoot up and dive at Wanda. He grabbed her and the witch let the young man fall to the floor. Specter and Scarlet Witch rolled across the rubble, and the man surprisingly got the upper hand since he pinned her arms to the ground...
"Aww." She gave a teasing smirk. "You always liked being the dominant one in the bedroom."
...or so he thought.
Suddenly, a voice spoke into his ear from behind. It was Wanda.
"But I think it's time for me to take the reigns."
The Wanda he was pinning down immediately dissipated and Y/N looked at the floor in confusion. He didn't have time to react as Wanda wrapped his body in red swirls and lifted him in the air. She then threw him towards the temple, where he crashed through a column and the building's doors.
As Specter was down, The Scarlet Witch walked across the ruins of Kamar-Taj. She stepped over rubble, scorched beams, and a few charred bodies of sorcerers. She stopped in front of the temple, then closed her eyes to hone in on the location of America Chavez. It only took a few seconds and immediately she knew where she was within the building.
She reopened her eyes but was met with another obstacle in her path...Doctor Strange.
The sorcerer stood tall between the doors of the temple. An incapacitated and groaning Y/N was on the floor behind him.
"You want the girl, you're gonna have to go through me."
"Fine." She simply said before walking forward. Suddenly, she stepped on a trap that began to encase her. It was a type of Mirror Dimension spell that he hoped would slow her down.
Strange quickly went over to Y/N and helped him up. The young man let out a cough as he got to his feet.
"That'll buy us some more time. Come on."
Y/N started to follow Strange. "I thought whatever the hell I was doing outside was enough."
"Well, it wasn't."
America and two other Kamar-Taj sorcerers stood in a room. Stephen, Y/N, and Wong came in and the teenager was elated to see them.
"We have to get you out of here. Now." Stephen said.
"What happened?" She asked.
"Kamar-Taj has fallen." Wong replied.
Strange tried to conjure a portal with his sling ring, but the gadget on his fingers started to glow red. It came off his hand and disintegrated. He knew it was Wanda's doing.
Suddenly, the doors of the room shut by themselves. They heard supernatural screeches in the room but didn't know exactly from where.
One of the sorcerers was standing in a puddle. Within moments, a pair of hands dragged him inside and the man vanished. The same happened with the second sorcerer, leaving the four alone.
"Reflections..." Stephen started to realize. "She's using the reflections! Cover them!"
They started to cover up anything that can reflect with tarps and pieces of cloth. America covered one puddle but saw another one suddenly ripple. She looked into it...and Wanda's eye came out and stared directly at her.
The teenager screamed and stepped back. Suddenly, the gong beside her shook and Wanda's arm came out of its reflection. As if she was the girl from The Ring, the witch crawled out of it. Her body was mangled, but Wanda easily snapped her bones back in place and stood up, looking straight at the quartet.
"You gave all those lives to keep me from my children." She spoke as she paced in front of them.
"You took those lives." Strange shot back. "You cannot be allowed to cross into the multiverse."
"I'm not a monster, Stephen. I'm a mother."
"Wanda, you have no children. They don't exist. You need to accept it...just like Y/N has."
"Oh...but they do. In every other universe." She replied. "I know they do because I dream of them. Every. Night."
Wanda looked at Y/N, noticing the look on his face. She understood why he reacted that way.
"You have them too, don't you? Those dreams you mentioned in the courtyard. They're of them, aren't they?" She asked.
Y/N swallowed and glanced at Stephen, who was taking in the information as well. He remembered America's explanation of how dreams and the multiverse were connected.
"...yes." He finally answered, then mirrored what Wanda said. "Every...night."
The witch conjured the Darkhold and opened the book. Red strands of energy came out of it and ultimately formed snowglobe-sized orbs.
Within each of them was a glimpse of other universes...ones where Wanda, Y/N, Billy, Tommy, and Vivian were together.
"Dreams of my boys...my sweet sweet girl. All together...with the love of my life by my side."
They all looked into them as well. Y/N couldn't believe it. What he was seeing was real. The universe within the orbs was real.
His children were real.
"Every night...the same dream. And every morning..." Wanda closed the book and everything vanished. She looked directly at them. "The same...nightmare."
America was speechless. Again, it reaffirmed her belief why Wanda was so angry.
"What if you reach them?" Strange asked her. "What happens to the other you? The other Y/N if you bring yours along? What happens to their parents?"
Wanda didn't have an answer for that, and neither did Y/N. There was no good or rather ethical response.
Amidst the silence, Wanda and Strange stared at each other. It slowly turned to glares, and their engagement was imminent.
Stephen shot serpents out of his hands and attacked Wanda, but the witch held them back with her powers. It didn't take long before Wanda simply vaporized them.
The Scarlet Witch levitated and red energy swirled around her palm. Before Strange can attack again, she lifted him and threw him against a pillar. She used her telekinesis to levitate America and the girl started screaming. Wong conjured runes and threw them at the witch, but she deflected them and tossed Wong aside where he knocked his head on a raised step.
"That's enough!" Y/N exclaimed and launched himself at Wanda. The attempt was fruitless though, as she simply froze him in place using her chaos magic.
"Your abilities are no match for mine." She said, then slammed him to the floor.
Immediately afterward, Wanda started to siphon the powers out of America. The teenager's eyes glowed blue before a star-shaped portal suddenly appeared behind her.
Strange had recovered and looked at the scene at the same time as Y/N. The sorcerer was going to grab America and dive into the portal she formed. He started to run toward the teenager, but Wanda noticed and was prepared to shoot him down.
Y/N quickly got up and dove in front of the running Stephen. He formed an energy shield right when she shot the beam, protecting Strange. But the force of the blast ended up pushing Y/N into the portal with Stephen and America.
Immediately, the star portal closed, leaving an enraged Wanda alone in the room with an unconscious Wong.
