CHAPTER ONE, introductions.
THE ACCEPTANCE RATE FOR UA HIGH'S HERO COURSE, is less than one in three hundred every year. Other than the five people admitted through recommendations, thirty-seven are admitted through the regular exam. Izumi was recommended, thankfully.
She really believes that UA is a magical place, filled with amazing people, aspiring to be hero's. So, like any other girl growing up in a successful hero family, she always dreamed of going to such a school.
Her competitiveness was something others admired, as she loved a good competition, and hated people that acted unfairly and broke rules. Even if she enjoyed breaking a few of her own, like curfew and such.
Izumi would be starting her first day at UA, which she was sure made her mother and older brother proud. Of course, they knew she would get into the school even if it weren't for recommendations. She trained all her life for this special day. It was only natural.
" Izumi! Get up, it's time for school!" Hitomi Hiyori shouted from her room, annoying her youngest child. It was always such a hard task waking up Izumi, as she prioritized her beauty sleep over anything else. Her family knew not to wake her if it wasn't anything important.
This time was different though, since Izumi was already awake. That was a first, and she couldn't help but wake up super early since she was excited and anxious at the same time. Izumi sighed at her mother's loud voice, quickly grabbing her shoes and putting them on.
" I'm awake, mother!" She shouted, picking up her backpack and sliding it on. A smile made its way onto Izumi's face as she rushed down the stairs and into the kitchen, seeing breakfast already made by the cooks.
" This smells delicious," Izumi sniffed the food, sighing in satisfaction. One thing she loved to do, was eat. Every time someone saw Izumi, she was eating. One of the housemaids fixed her a plate of all her favorite breakfast foods and she took it gratefully, taking a seat at the table and saying her grace before scarfing it down.
Izumi earned a few disgusted looks from her older brother Hoshi, who had just entered the kitchen, which made her eat even sloppier just to annoy him. Hoshi rolled his eyes as Izumi stuck her tongue out at him.
The two siblings quickly finished their food, thanked the cooks, and made their way out of the estate. UA was pretty close to their house, so instead of catching a ride with their mother, they decided to walk.
Their mother is a part of the staff at UA ever since last year, so she would be there eventually. They just didn't want to show up at school with a parent, it was pretty embarrassing. They're in high school.
The walk was about five minutes, so it didn't take them a long time to get there. Izumi stared in awe as they pulled out their student cards and opened the huge gate that was surrounding the school.
She had heard about it from her mother and brother, and even cousins that attended the school, but seeing it with her own eyes was breathtaking. Her smile seemed to brighten anyone's day, and she clenched her fist.
" I can't believe it. This is my school." The girl gasped, shoving her brother roughly out of excitement. Hoshi scoffed, pushing his sister even harder than she had pushed him. She stumbled, causing both siblings to burst into angelic laughter.
A few students at the entrance gave them weird looks, which they didn't care about. Izumi grabbed her older brother by the arm, pulling him into the building so that he could show her around before class started.
Her brother showed her how to get to the lunchroom, and other places that the first years would go. He was happy to show his sister the way, it gave him a small sense of pride that he was being a good example in her life. Even if he'd never admit it.
Once he finished his tour, they had ten minutes to spare before class started. Hoshi left Izumi to go and catch up with his friends. His sister didn't mind, she knew how to get to her class on her own.
As she made her way to the classroom, her heart nearly beat out of her chest. She was super excited to kick some ass, but hid it well as she opened the classroom door and entered the room, turning all eyes to her.
Izumi smiled, not knowing what else to do. Most of the students in her class stared with wide eyes, while a few others weren't as surprised to see a famous person at a school for the elite.
Her eyes searched the room, scanning a red eyed blonde boy, who seemed to hold her gaze bravely and didn't look away like the rest. Izumi cleared her throat, looking away and she spotted Todoroki.
A silent scoff left her lips, so she turned to an empty seat, right next to a boy with red hair and a bright aura, that felt inviting and friendly. Izumi waved at him, and he smiled, showing his sharp teeth.
She quickly made her way to the seat, about to sit down next to the boy, when the fiery blonde from before raised his legs and put them on the desk, in front of the chair she was going to sit on.
Izumi gasped, not expecting that. The blonde smirked, seeing that he got under her skin. He was already aware of who she was, since she was so famous. Not many knew of this, but he had the biggest crush on her when he was a child.
" Excuse me," Izumi stated nicely, not wanting to be rude since it was only the first day. The blonde didn't acknowledge her, keeping his feet on her desk with a small, but noticeable, smirk on his face.
" Okay, have it your way then." Izumi nodded, pushing his legs off of her desk and taking a seat. It wasn't very effective since he put his legs back up. Izumi groaned and thought that it'd be best to just ignore him.
She didn't really get the chance to, as Tenya Iida, a boy Izumi had met before, began to scold the blonde boy about respecting the school's property, and being a gentleman to his classmates.
Everything Tenya said to him, seemed to be going into one ear and right out the other. Izumi couldn't do anything but watch in surprise as the two students yelled at each other. What a weird start of the day.
The door to the classroom opened, and everyone looked towards it once more. Izumi's eyes widened at the sight of Kaoru Harino, her best friend since childhood, and a short boy with dark green hair.
" Kaoru!" The girl almost squealed, rushing out of her seat to hug the boy as tight as she could. She knew he applied for the school, but never heard back from him, so she figured maybe he didn't make it in.
" Why didn't you tell me?" She asked him, pulling away from their embrace. " I wanted it to be a surprise." He shrugged, smiling and letting his dimples show. Izumi nodded and turned to the shy boy with green hair.
He stood there awkwardly, not wanting to interrupt their moment. " Oi, do you know him?" Izumi asked her friend, motioning towards the boy. Kaoru Harino nodded, wrapping his arm around the boy's shoulder.
" Izuku Midoriya, he saved me in the entrance exam. I didn't notice a huge robot behind me, and I didn't acknowledge it because it wasn't worth any points, but this guy took it out with one punch!" Kaoru stated.
" I've heard about the robots from my mom, she says that they're huge. You must be really powerful." Izumi acknowledged, staring at Izuku in astonishment. She wondered what his quirk could be.
" I'm not. The only reason I passed the stupid exam was because I saved him." Izuku didn't seem very confident in his own strength. " But you took a huge robot out with just one punch. I think you're strong enough." She whispered to him.
" Well, Kaoru, we should take a seat." Izumi grabbed her friend, much happier now that he'll be attending high school with her. Kaoru waved at his friend Izuku, before following the girl of his dreams to her seat and taking the empty one behind her.
He noticed Todoroki, another person from their middle school. The half and half boy was staring at Izumi with annoyance, probably mad that she hadn't acknowledged his presence in any way.
Usually, she blew up with anger at the sight of him. Perhaps she had matured over the summer. Kaoru sure hoped so, or she'd get into a lot of fights. It wasn't that she caused problems for fun, it was more of her wanting to be the hero all the time.
And she wanted control of everything, being the perfectionist that she is. " Good morning, my name is Tenya Iida from the—" The loud boy explained, stopping Kaoru's train of thought, as he approached Izuku.
" I know, I'm Izuku Midoriya. It's super nice to meet you." Izuku sweat dropped, most likely afraid of the person in front of him. Tenya did have that affect on people at first glance.
" Midoriya, you realized that there was something more to the practical exam, didn't you? You must be very perceptive, I completely misjudged you. I admit, as a student you're far superior than me." Iida nodded.
Izumi raised an eyebrow, just how strong could this Midoriya boy be? She felt quite threatened already, though there was no need to be. He looked like the sweetest person ever.
Another student showed up, a pretty girl with short, brown hair. Izumi turned to her side, making eye contact with Todoroki. He glared and quickly looked away, annoyed at himself for getting caught.
Izumi bit her lip, cursing him under her breath. She didn't want to put up with that jerk for another year, but clearly luck wasn't on her side.
She turned back to the door at the sight of a man laying in a yellow sleeping bag, a caterpillar one at that. What in the actual hell was this man thinking? Izumi couldn't hold in her laugh, putting attention on herself.
" Welcome to UA's hero course," The man rolled over, unzipped his sleeping bag and pulled out a juice pouch. He drunk it quickly, and stood up.
" It took you all eight seconds to shut up, that's not gonna work. Time is precious, rational students would understand that. Hello, I'm Shoto Aizawa, your teacher." The man informed his class.
" Our teacher? He looks more like a homeless person, if you ask me." Izumi leaned back in her chair, whispering towards Kaoru. The brown haired boy chuckled quietly, telling his friend to hush.
" Right. Let's get to it, put these on and head outside." The man held out uniforms for each student, everyone stood up and grabbed one that was their size.
