The news spread quickly about the breakup. All weekend Daphne and Draco stayed in their dorms, not leaving at all. They both stayed in bed, crying to themselves. Now that the weekend was over, they had to see each other, in classes, prefect duty, hallways, dinner and breakfast.
In the dorms, Daphne had covered every mirror so she wouldn't see Fiona. The girls never really questioned it, they just felt bad for her so they pushed it to the side. Draco on the other hand, he stayed in bed, same spot, for past three days. He didn't have the guts to show his face anywhere, and the boys bothered him, saying that he's finally free, that he did the right thing. It angered him more but he didn't saying, he just kept to himself. He was too heartbroken.
Daphne dragging herself out of bed. Her eyes were still red and puffy. She didn't care what she looked like anymore. The sheet that covered the long mirror fell. Daphne picks it up and looks at the mirror. Fiona was behind her, her hand on Daphnes shoulder. She wasn't scared. Daphne stood there, cold. She can feel her, as if she was there with her.
"Its time to come home dear." She whispers to her. "Come home to me, let yourself go. This is who you are meant to be." She dropped the sheet and wiped the tear on her cheek. Fiona smiles as she grabbed her robe, heading out. She walked to Charms class, already filled with students. She walks up to Lisa and Amara, tapping Amara's shoulder.
"Can we trade seats please." Daphne begged. Amara scuffs. "I'll give you whatever you what, I just don't want to sit next to Malfoy." Malfoy. It sounded so weird to say that name. I've never called him Malfoy in a long time.
"Do my dark arts essay." Amara crossed her arms.
"Fine." We made the deal, Amara went to my old seat and I put my head down on the table.
"She wanted to trade seats." I heard Amara say. My head peaked up, Draco already pissed.
"You did the right thing." Lisa whispers as she saw me got sad. She held my hand as class begun.
"So today, we are going to-" the words of Flitwicks went in one ear and out the other. I watched as Draco sets his chin on the table, drawing on his parchment. I can feel this dark feeling inside me again, it started when we starting to drift apart, and more when we broke up. It feels like evil crawling up my skin. Wanting me to notice its attention.
"So what is the spell that you-" Lisa stops herself as she looked at me staring out in space. I don't even remember charms ending or how I even got here, sitting outside with Lisa. "Oi, Daph?"
"Hm?" I looked lazily at her.
"You alright?"
"No yeah, I'm just collecting my thoughts." I looked up, behind Lisa was Draco, walking away. Daphne Greengrass and her sister Astoria following him, giggling. He honestly looked tired and annoyed. Lisa looks at me, concerned. "I should hate him, but I dont. He is the reason why I believed in love. I have fell in love with him ever since i met him, I couldn't help it. Is it bad that I still love Draco?"
"No, love works in mysterious ways. We all have different ways of letting go. And if you're not ready to let him go, thats okay."
"I should've saw it coming as we're drifting away. I was just too blind with love to see it, still thinking we could make it work no matter how many apologies he made." I looked down and my shaky hands. "I shouldn't be crying over him, because I know my worth. Im stronger than that, but our love was stronger. Maybe she's right, how can someone like him like someone so broken like me?" Still looking at my hands. Was Fiona right all this time?
"Who said that?" Lisa leans forward. "Daphne, who?"
"My mother." I whispered softly. Lisa sits up, shocked, she had trouble reading me, I was just so detached. I just had a blank expression.
"Daphne, are you talking to your mother?"
"I see her, aside of me, behind me, in front of me. Sometimes i can feel her."
"Where?"
"I should go, I need to take a bath." I grabbed my things and headed out, bumping into Astoria. She growled at me, but I didn't care.
"Watch it Snape!" She goes back to Draco, flipping her hair, flirting. Blaise sat by Lisa, looking at the confused girl, trying to find out a way to what her best friend meant by talking to her mother. The day went by slow, the school was quiet, which as funny because the school was never this quiet. Lisa headed out of the library from her studying, which she didn't get to do a lot of because all she can think of was Daphne.
"Have you seen Daphne? She was supposed to meet me an hour ago." Elio comes up to Lisa, catching her off guard.
"Uh no, sadly."
"Well if you see her, tell her if we can meet tomorrow because i have a big test." Elio smiles and walks off with his friends. Odd, Daphne would never be an hour late to anything. Lisa headed to the slytherin common room, waiting for Blaise. He came out, surprised to see her.
"Have you seen Daphne?" She reaches out to Blaise. He grabbed her hands.
"No why?"
"Is she in the common room?"
"I didn't see her." Julia came by, Lisa went up to her.
"Julia!" She turns to the two. "Can you check if Daphne is in her dorm, please."
"Yeah sure." Julia headed in and a couple of minutes past and Julia came back. "Not there."
"Okay, uh did you see anything out of place? Anything weird?"
"The sheets that she had covering around the dorm, there all down." Lisa gasps. Mirrors. She tried talking to her mom. She said that she can see her, as in a mirror, thats why she covered them up. "Can I help? What should we do?"
"Lisa?" Blaise held her hand tightly. "Tell us."
"Uh check her hiding spot and astronomy tower, whatever you do, dont tell Snape. Im going to check over there." They ran off to find Daphne. Lisa yelled out for her. No responses. "Daphne!" She steps in a puddle. Why was the hallway filled with water?
"Shes not at the hiding spot." Blaise pants as he found Lisa. He looked at the mess of water.
"Its the prefects bathroom." Lisa looks up. Shes in there. "Do you know what the password is?" She turns to Blaise.
"No." She panics. She saw Hermione, charging at her.
"Hermione! Quick whats the prefects password!" Lisa shook her.
"Fresh pine! Why!?" Lisa lets her go and ignored her.
"Blaise, stay here." She went in. Her shoes and socks were all wet. "Daph!" She saw Daphne crouched over the tub. Lisa ran to her. "Daphne hey." Lisa turns off the faucet, quickly holding Daphne. She didn't flinch, she kept staring at the water.
"Do you see her?" Daphne whispers. Lisa looks at the reflection in the water, it was just Daphne.
"I only see you."
"Im sorry, the water I-" Daphne snaps out of it, pulling away from the tub.
"Its just water, its easy to pick up." With a wave of her wand, the water was gone from the floor.
"Im so tired Lisa." I looked back at the water, sounding so exhausted.
"I know. I know." Lisa pulled my hair back, comforting me.
"Its like everyday I feel myself fading away, but I'm still here."
"You're still here." Lisa looks at me with sadness. "You're here." I turned to her, coming back to reality.
"Its like i have this empty, darkness inside me. Every time I look at myself, i just see my mother, looking straight at me, telling me that I need to let myself go." My voice cracked, looking back into the water. "I used to be so scared and now, im not even scared of her anymore. I just stare at her." Lisa strokes my back, comforting me. "Draco was the one that brought out the real me, i felt so happy, so sane when I was with him but now that I dont have him, I dont even know who i am. The one time I want to be nice, it all went to shit. Maybe being nice was never for me, maybe being cruel and evil is my purpose. She did planted that for me. Everyone keeps saying that im so much like her, maybe i should stop being myself and let her take me. She's waiting for me and she's going to take me. Maybe I should accept that, I should accept that and go." Me nodding my head, sniffing, this is the way, the only way. Why even try?
"No, no, no." Lisa breaks down. "Not yet."
"Lisa." I mumbled. The way I said her name so hopelessly, utterly exhausting made me feel so bad. She made me look at her.
"If you cant feel anything, then ill feel everything for the both of us, okay?" She nods her head. "No one is going anywhere." Lisa and I were crying. She held my hands, kissing them. "Daphne, you have such a good heart, you just need to use it. Not from there, but here." She points at my head and then my heart. "You stood up for me and Neville that one year, remember? When Pansy and the others took us to the forest, you saved me first, that's not evil. This is what your mother wants, to break you down, so when the day comes, you will show no mercy, just like her." She wipes my tears from my face. I've never seen her like this, and it breaks my heart. "You are Daphne Snape, not Lucas, not Katherine, not your father, not Fiona." I crashed into her arms, crying on her shoulder. "You're here, with me."
"Im here, with you." She holds the back of my head, shushing me.
"How about we head to your dorm and change. You're soaking and you can rest, yeah?" I nodded my head, Lisa unclogged the tub and carried me out. Blaise waited for us, letting us go inside the common room, letting Lisa in, helping me change into my pajamas and put me in bed. "You want me to cover this?" She points at the mirror facing me.
"Please." She grabbed the sheet from the floor and covered the mirror.
"Sleep well." Lisa then left. I pretended to be asleep as the girls cane to go to bed, I waited it out as Julia would be the last one to knock out. Soon as I heard her snore, I grabbed my blanket and headed out. I walked down the steps and saw Draco in his pajamas. We both looked at each other until I ran out of there and headed straight to my fathers office. Draco followed me, making me walk faster. I finally made it to my fathers office, i closed the door, losing Draco. I sighed, eyeing the couch my father had.
Daphne makes her way to the couch, laying down. Even though she couldn't sleep, being there made her feel safe. She heard footsteps. Daphne turns body, pretending to be asleep. Severus comes in, scared as he heard someone come in. He looked at the couch and saw his daughter. Lucas comes besides him, looking at his niece. He knows how much pain she was in, he knew the feeling.
"I wish Katherine was here." Lucas whispers to Severus as they walked back to his room. "She always knew how to handle this type of stuff."
"She misses her." Severus tells him. "She wants to risk it and come back."
"We can't have that. She has to stay with Molly and Arthur, shes safer there than being here with us." Lucas sighs, looking out of the window. "Harry Potter better put a stop to Voldemort, he has too."
"He can do it." Severus knew he can. After years of being rude to him, he protected him. He knew that Harry Potter will kill Voldemort. "I know he will."
"He better. After years serving him, I want him gone. I lost someone i loved because of him. Im not ready to lose anyone anymore. That day when Reg-" Lucas stops himself, choking up a bit. He coughs, pushing away the tears. Lucas hated Voldemort, he partnered up with Regulus to take the locket and destroy it. He had to watch Regulus die, he wanted save him, but Regulus made him promise not to.
"You're not going to be caught, i promise you that Lucas."
"What about Daphne? You think she'll go behind their backs?" He referred to Fiona and Voldemort. Severus walks to his desk and leans back, crossing his arms.
"She better not, if they find out she did, she's dead before she can do anything." It was too much of risk for Daphne to betray Voldemort. He's already in deep shit just by thinking about it.
