"Why are you making this a big deal?!"
"Because, Misun, if you haven't notice, you've been very secretive lately!"
It started off as a good morning. Pretty good morning, actually. The members of Stray Kids woke up, ate breakfast and just enjoyed their free day. That is, until a massive argument broke out between Hyunjin and Misun. And the only ones who witness this fiasco were Jeongin, Felix, and Seungmin.
You see, Chan left with Changbin and Minho that morning because they had plans together. Fridays, they go to the gym together. Jisung was visiting family for the weekend and wouldn't be back until Monday afternoon.
But what started the argument? You may ask. Well, recently, GOLDEN was announced to be performing at Waterbomb Festival in both Seoul and Tokyo. No one had a problem with that. In fact, most of the members celebrated and were granted permission to attend in support of Misun.
So the members of Stray Kids will be able to attend the Seoul festival date. Hyunjin, at first, was fine with that. But he began to miss having Misun around a lot more. Because she is apart of a girl group ( albeit whenever Stray Kids were on their resting period so that schedules don't conflict with each other ), they began to see less and less of her due to her having to leave on schedule for about a week or so.
But what really started the conflict was that Korean news began reporting that Misun and Wooyoung, from Ateez, were dating or that there was a rumor that they were dating. And Hyunjin felt like she's not as close to them as she used to be.
Now, he would never get mad about her dating. She's her own person and she can do whatever she wanted. But he felt like she's been keeping a lot of things from them ever since.
Which, in his defense, this feeling didn't come out of nowhere. Misun has been keeping to herself a lot lately. Whenever one of them would try to make plans with her, she would just say that she has plans of her own, apologize and then leave it at that.
She would always be on her phone, smiling, giggling and just not really paying attention to anyone around her unless she really had to.
What hurt Hyunjin the most was that she once canceled their Friday night movie marathon all because she was too busy with GOLDEN or whoever she was hanging out with to have time for him.
He felt like they were drifting apart and today was the tip of the iceberg.
Jeongin kind of witnessed the argument between them awkwardly. He walked into the living room, wanting to ask Misun if she has seen his red sweater but he just stood there. Looking at the scene between them.
Felix was sleeping in and Seungmin was in his room, listening to loud music. It was a miracle they didn't wake him up or anything. Then again, Felix was always a heavy sleeper.
"Since when did you dictate who I can or cannot hang out with?!" Misun yelled at him, crossing her arms. "I'm not a kid anymore!"
"God! I didn't even say that!" Hyunjin argued back, feeling like he was talking to a wall. "I said that you've been so distant from all of us that you are barely even present when we are all together! You can hang out with whoever you want! But you don't see that you are hurting all of us!"
"And I told you I am sorry about that! It's not my fault that I was placed in two groups or that sometimes, I don't have time to rest like the rest of you! And I'm sorry for not telling you that I hung out with Wooyoung! Even though that shouldn't matter because he's also your friend!"
"I'm not mad that you hung out with him! I'm mad that you blew me off without reason and then I had to find out through the news the reason you canceled on me! If you were honest with me, I would have been fine with it! It's like I don't even know you anymore!"
Jeongin meekly looked between them. On one hand, Misun has a right to hang out with whoever she wanted. It was never a problem with them. And she couldn't help that sometimes she would be busier than them. They all understood that. Disappointing, but what can that do?
But on the other hand, he understood Hyunjin. It was like they were losing her without even realizing it. He would never blame it on the other members of GOLDEN or Wooyoung. But Misun did have a bad habit of not knowing when she was being distant with the other members.
The last time she was like this, it was for a very sad reason and because she practically ghosted them, it hurt the entire group. It wasn't until Chan was able to get her to talk that she opened up again.
"If you're going to keep acting like this, then maybe it's best you leave this group!" Hyunjin spat out, which shocked Misun and Jeongin.
"H-Hyung!" Jeongin exclaimed, "You don't mean that."
"No it's okay, Jeongin." Misun bit back her tears and glared at Hyunjin. "He did mean it. And he's right. Maybe I should just leave! You would want that, huh?!"
"N-Noona, please-" He tried to stop her from leaving but she picked up her purse and was already on her way out the door.
Hyunjin was shocked by what he said. Truthfully, he didn't mean to say that at all. It was just he was so hurt by her actions that he yelled out whatever his anger forced him to say. But he was also still too hurt and pissed to even stop her from leaving.
"Since that's how you feel, then you won't have to worry about me anymore," Misun said before leaving. The shake in her voice was evident as she slammed the door behind her, leaving them in silence.
Jeongin was in shock. He has seen each member get into arguments before. Sometimes, they say things they don't mean. But for some reason, this one scared him. What if Misun left the group because of this? What if Hyunjin really meant what he said?
It was ridiculous, he knows. But still..... he didn't want to lose anyone.
"Hyunjin?" Jeongin whispered, trying to get his attention but said member just shoved past him, making his way into his room.
The maknae jumped when he heard the door slam. He sighed, biting at his nails. He didn't know what to do in these situations. He wasn't Chan. He didn't know how to solve problems. But he also wanted to comfort the both of them.
He just didn't know where Misun went and he knew that Hyunjin would not answer him, right now.
So he decided to call Chan for help. By then, Seungmin walked into the living room with a sleepy Felix trailing behind him.
"Hey, I just saw Hyunjin go into his room." Seungmin pointed out, taking off his headphones. "He looks pretty pissed off,"
"His door slamming woke me up," Felix groaned lazily, scratching the back of his neck. "What's his deal, anyways?"
"Misun and Hyunjin got into a fight." He paraphrased, dialing Chans number in his phone. "I'll explain everything later, I just have to call Chan right now."
Felix, now wide awake, and Seungmin suddenly looked concerned with his words. They got into a fight? It had to be super bad if she left and he retreated into his room like that. The two waited for Jeongin to get off of the phone to ask for more details.
They hope that there was something they can do to help the both of them.
Meanwhile, Misun sat inside of a nearby coffee shop, staring at her drink in sadness. She had been crying on the way there and only really stopped once she ordered her drink and sat down with it. It was a quiet shop. Not many people went there, so she was safe from fans.
She began to think about everything Hyunjin said. Maybe he was right. She has been distant from them lately. But that was mostly because she was either exhausted from going in between group schedules. But that didn't make her feel even less guilty for her behavior.
She felt incredibly guilty for everything and it began to weigh down on her after she left. She was mad that he didn't seem to understand that she was busier than them sometimes.
That, and when she started hanging out with Wooyoung, she didn't know that she was blowing him or the others off because she started being around him. It was never a problem before. What changed now?
"Oh, Misun~" a voice caught her attention. She looked up and saw Jungkook, of all people, walking towards her with a smile on his face.
He had a cup of hot coffee in one hand and his phone in the other. "I didn't know you also came here," he said chuckling a little. "They do have really good lattes, I'll admit. Was never really a fan but Jisoo, somehow, talked me into......are you okay?"
Jungkook noticed that Misun's eyes were red, slightly puffy and wet with tears as she sniffled and wiped her face slowly. He immediately knew something was wrong.
"...I'm such a bad friend," Misun sobbed out, feeling herself start to cry again. She bowed her head and tried to hold back a sob but nothing was working. "And a bad person."
"Hey, hey." Jungkook hurriedly sat down across from her. He placed his cup down and reached over to grab her shaking hands. "You're not a bad friend or a bad person.....what makes you think that?"
"Hyunjin and I got into a fight," She sobbed out softly, sniffling as she talked. "He said that I've been distant from him and the rest and that it's like they don't even know me anymore because I've been with Golden and I've been hanging out with Wooyoung. I never meant to hurt anyone at all.
"But it wasn't my fault that the news were following me! I just wanted something for myself because everything I've ever did was for the others or the fans. The moment I find a new friend outside of the group, I think 'hey, maybe I can keep this all to myself for a while' even though that's stupid because Ateez have been all of our friends for a while."
Jungkook said nothing as he patiently listened to her speak. Comforting her as she cried and explained herself.
"And then one day, Wooyoung and I just sort of clicked and he and I began texting each other, hanging out together. I've never been in a situation like that, where a guy paid that much attention to me outside of the group." She continued on. "He asked me to go to dinner with him one night and I said yes because it was the first date I've ever been to! I didn't know that I was hurting the others because I was so excited about this. Maybe Hyunjin is right......maybe I should be in the group anymore."
"Okay, that's a harsh thing to say," Jungkook cut in. "He has a right to be upset, it's human nature. But he shouldn't have said that at all. No one should ever say anything that harsh to anyone. No matter how angry they are."
Misun wiped her tears away. "B-But why does it feel like he's right? I feel like I am distancing myself from the group and.....maybe I'm not cut out for either groups."
"Misun, don't say that," Jungkook said almost sternly. "You deserve to be in Stray Kids. You did not fight ten times harder to prove that females can survive in male dominated groups for nothing. Everything you have, you've earned it. Being G-Dragons sister or not, you never let that get to you. So don't ever say anything.
"Besides, I'm sure Hyunjin didn't mean what he said. He was in the heat of the moment and said something I'm pretty sure he's regretting now. But it is up to you two to make the decision to fix this. I would hate to see you so upset over something neither of you can control. You both are within your rights to feel the way that you do. But don't let this be the wedge that divides the group. Because that will be the downfall."
Misun looked at Jungkook with sad eyes as he moved his chair over to her side of the table. He sat back down and pulled her into a hug, allowing her to lean her head on his shoulder.
"Just try to talk things out with him," he said, gently rubbing her shoulder, wrapping her into a warm hug. "I promise, if you two let this go on any longer, nothing will be resolved."
Misun said nothing but thought about what he said. She did feel guilty for what she said and for how she's been acting lately. She didn't want to lose him over anything. So she made the conscious decision to apologize that same day.
"Hyunjin, I really do understand how you are feeling, but what you said was really uncalled for."
After about three hours, Chan came home with Changbin and Minho. When Jeongin called and told him about the fight, he immediately told him that he would handle it.
The maknae explained to Felix and Seungmin what happened and what was said word for word. Both of them felt bad for the two of them. Of course, they really did understand Hyunjin. But to tell her that she should leave was uncalled for. They get that he was hurt by her distant act but he shouldn't have said anything like that to her.
Misun loves every one of them and she loves Hyunjin dearly. So she had to be extremely hurt by what he said. All in all, this fight went too far on both sides and they didn't want this to drag on.
The only person Hyunjin allowed into his room was Chan. The leader told the other members to stay in the living room to give them privacy.
"Come on, man." Chan sighed, sitting at the foot of his bed. Hyunjin laid on his back, staring at the ceiling while hugging a pillow. He had no expression on his face. "You know that Misun loves all of us and she would never do anything to hurt you or anyone on purpose."
"Yeah, I know." He droned on almost robotically. ".....I was just....I guess I didn't know how mad I was until that point."
"We all understand where you are coming from." Chan admitted. "Yes, it's kind of disappointing whenever she never has time for us. Most of the time, it's not her fault. You are right for feeling hurt in that matter. But why would you tell her to leave the group?"
"I didn't tell her to leave, I said that maybe she should if she kept acting like we're an afterthought." Hyunjin sighed out, throwing the pillow to the side. "I already feel bad for even saying that but I was just so upset......I just miss having her around more, you know? I'm really bad at expressing certain emotions. Especially when it comes to her."
"I feel like I have to question this, but are you more upset that she's hanging out with Wooyoung rather than her being distant?" He asked, purely out of curiosity.
He has noticed the way Hyunjin would often shut down whenever Misun did mention Wooyoung. Whenever she would say that she hung out with him, was texting him or even remember what he has said to her that made her laugh. Hyunjin would often look a little defeated.
And he only knew that because Felix was the same way for some time. But after talking to him, he said that he was fine if Misun really had something going on with them. No matter how he felt about her, he would never ruin something for her. And that was that.
But Hyunjin had a tendency to just let his emotions boil over instead of talking things out and that usually caused him trouble.
"......I don't know anymore." Hyunjin mumbled. "I just hate that I even said that because I......I just want to tell her I'm sorry."
Chan pursed his lips, comfortingly rubbing his leg a little. He hated seeing any of his members upset. It really broke his heart. He just hopes that they could fix this now rather than later.
Just before he could say anything, there was a knock at the door. Chan and Hyunjin looked, wondering who it was. The leader stood up and walked over to his bedroom door.
He opened it and saw Misun standing on the other side with two coffee cups and a paper bag. She looked like she had been crying and that only made Hyunjin feel even more guilty for what he said.
"Ummm....." she mumbled shyly, looking at Hyunjin. "I-I ran into Jungkook-oppanim and we talked.....he made me realize a lot of things."
"Well, I'll leave you two to talk things out." Chan said, giving the both of them a smile before allowing her to enter his room.
As soon as he closed the door, Hyunjin rose up from his bed, leaning his back on the headboard. "Where did you go?" He asked quietly.
Misun quickly sat down on his bed and offered him a cup. "It's caramel latte, the same one we used to get together all the time." She explained. "I also got your favorite donuts....as a way to apologize to you."
Hyunjin slowly took the cup from her. It was the same drink from the same coffee shop and bakery they used to go to together. The revelation made his heart burst.
"You were right about everything." She continued. "I have been distant from you and I have been a bad friend to you all. I've been in my own world for so long that I forgot that you and the rest were here, first. And I just wanted to say that I'm so sorry for being a bad friend."
"Misun, I should apologize." He stated, placing the cup onto his bedside table and turning to her. "I know that you can't control what happens during your scheduled and you should be able to hang out or even date whoever you want without me being a jerk about it. Also, I shouldn't have said what I said to you.....I don't think you should leave the group.....I didn't mean it at all."
Misun smiled a little, setting down the bag and her coffee on the bedside. "Thank you....can you ever forgive me?"
Hyunjin smiled back at her and pulled her into a hug. He laid back onto his bed, making her cuddle on top of him. "As long as you forgive me, Misun...."
Misun sighed, hugging him back as they laid into each others arms. It was a good thing they were able to fix this problem now before anything more could escalate.
The both of them realized that life was too short to let stuff like this get in between their friendship. No matter how hard it may be, they promised to always talk to each other if they ever needed to.
