I watched in silence as Armando exchanged words with these men. I had taken him up on his offer of riding out with him simply because this was a simple business transaction and I wanted to access what he was like in his zone.

Plus, I liked Miami.

"This should cover the costs for the materials we discussed...and then some," Armando announced as he placed the two large duffle bags on the ground in front of the man

Thirty-one bricks. Worth a million in the states, close to twenty million in the pesos they were going to switch the currency over to upon arrival in Mexico.

I watched as the man's smile lines began to form amongst his crooked smile while signaling one of his men over and as the man handed him the open bag he threw it to the ground in front of Armando with a few of the nine millimeters spilling from the open slit.

"This is what you get to keep. This is all you and your little girlfriend earned." The man said causing me to inaudibly chuckle

"What'd you say?" Armando rebutted while tilting his head slightly.

His tone was raspy and menacing. It was nothing like the tone he spoke to me in a few nights back. It was like a whole different person had taken over.

"We had a deal." Armando pointed out as all of the men began to shuffle around with their guns the moment their boss pulled a gun on Armando

"Renegotiating. Whoops!" The man said keeping the hold on his gun firm

I just smirked before kicking the bag to the side causing a diversion that left all eyes on me and Armando to begin making his move.

Within a blink of an eye, Armando had stabbed the boss in the neck and began taking his men out swiftly one by one with precision and accuracy.

It was impressive the way his body moved. I would've never taken him as this level of a threat.

One of the men from the sidelines then tried to join his fight causing me to briskly pull my gun on him, "Think about it." I sneered leaving him with no choice other than backing down.

Armando then peppered the last man throughout his chest vertically with his dagger causing him to shoot his gun from the sudden impact as his body began to slump over Armando took the gun away and looked around at the mess he had made before uttering mockingly, "Whoops."

"Come here," Armando ordered as if he was telling the dying man not to pass over while placing the gun beneath the man's chin

Armando then kneeled next to the man who sat hunched over on the ground gurgling his own blood that he had begun to choke on as he tried his best to place pressure on the deep gash on his neck.

"Look at me..." Armando said causing the man to weakly follow his direction as Armando continued his statement once the man did so.

"I don't renegotiate." He stated in a tone as cold as his demeanor before placing a bullet in the man causing his body to fall off to the side in the dirt

I didn't even flinch. I had seen things like this happen so much that my reaction was borderline inhumane. I knew the moment I let my emotions get involved with a case would be the moment I would stop sleeping like a baby at night. So, I made peace with the fact that these were just other killers killing an even worse killer.

"My family is taking back management of this town. We're gonna need some, uh, loyal employees. Who wants a job?" Armando announced while slightly waving his gun as I stuck mine back in my holster and stepped next to him

I was upset I didn't get into any of the action. But, he had handled the situation so quickly that it had taken care of the armed men and struck chilling fear in the hearts of the men unarmed.

Something about that made me feel fuzzy inside about Armando. It brought a familiar yet new feeling upon me the worst part was I couldn't describe it.

Time had begun to pass with Armando giving the men simple yet complex orders on how we were going to move this amount of weight throughout the keys for substantial profit as well as how we were going to move the large sum of cash to Mexico without an issue.

This wasn't a problem that I was worried about though. I had already gotten my team to spread the word to the border boys so they knew not to fuck with my case.

Armando was in the clear for now. But, his business plans were so alluringly vivid it was admirable even from an agent's perspective.

I had stepped out a few minutes after hearing his main points. I needed some air. Between my case and Jackson being unusually needy knowing I was undercover, I was a bit on edge.

Jackson knew the game so for him to act like a child just pissed me off.

My phone began to buzz in my pocket for the third time today causing me to quickly remove it from my pocket and answer.

"What's up?"

'How are you?' Jackson asked

"Why are you calling me?"

'Do I need an actual reason to call my wife?' He rebutted

"Jackson, look at some pictures of us and take your ass to sleep. Now, isn't the time." I sneered with my anger settling throughout my voice

'Then when will be the time? I haven't heard from you in three months?' Jackson argued

"You know that's real funny coming from the same man who up and left for six months without contact because he was quote on quote 'stressed with life'."

"Simone!" I heard a deep, raspy voice call causing me to drop the phone from my ear as I turned to see Armando making his way to where I stood

"Give me the phone..." His tone was so inexplicable I didn't know how this was going to go but I just gave him the phone

It was something in his eyes that even compelled me to.

"She's mine now. Don't call this number again." He said menacingly with every bit of his accent flowing through his words

Armando then slid my phone into his back pocket and silently walked over to the guardrails overlooking the dark ocean the stars reflected off of.

"He's bad news, salvaje fuego..." Armando said softly not facing me but instead keeping his eyes aligned with the darkness

(wildfire)

"I'm aware," I replied truthfully

Me and Jackson were more like colleagues than husband and wife. It's been that way for a while and when he pulled away on all his discreet rendezvous I got busy too busy for him and his baggage. And, of course, that pissed him off.

But, I didn't care. I knew he had secrets and instead of me chasing the truth I threw my anger into my work.

"I'm yours?" I then asked wondering what he meant

"Nothing pisses a man off more than knowing another man possibly may take his lady because he's fucking up," Armando answered with a low chuckle

I didn't reply instead I just walked over to where he stood in silence.

"Let me guess things like this give you a rush?" I asked nudging his shoulder teasingly

"A rush? Nah. I think you're sexy so this unknown man intrigues me. Makes me think of how I can take you from him." He rebutted nonchalantly

"What makes you say that?" I then asked playing further into his game

Armando just took a look at me before softly yet firmly grabbing my neck while saying, "Because that's what will give me a rush."

He just bit his lip slightly before stepping back and handing me my phone.

"I'm rounding up. We head out in thirty, hermosa." Armando concluded before heading back to the outhouse where all the business was being conducted

I couldn't help but bite the inside of my cheek to down my smirk as I was now facing the dark waters.
