Chapter 52 - The Third Task

Y/N's POV

Upon exiting Dumbledore's office, I set out towards the Gryffindor dorms.

I was happy to have gotten the answers I needed from him about why I've been having these visions.

But now it's time to figure out this graveyard vision I've been having.

I walked around the corner towards the fireplace in the middle of the common room, grabbing everything I needed so I could see the vision again.

I placed the ball onto the ground, placing my hand on it as I watched intently.......

Once again, I appeared in the graveyard. Beside me were Harry, as well as another figure.

It was dark and gloomy, filled with numerous tombstones as all graveyards were. But there was something very suspicious about this particular place.

"Where are we?" the figure asked as he looked around.

"I've been here before." Harry said nervously, peering over a large statue towering over a tombstone.

"Guys." Harry said. "We have to get out of here!"

"What are you talking about?" The figure asked as Harry fell to the ground, clenching his head in pain.

"Harry!" We exclaimed. "Are you alright?"

Suddenly, another figure emerged from the graveyard, with a mousy face and messy red hair.

Wormtail.

And he was holding a small, wrinkled body in his arm.

Wormtail walked over to us as the figure held his wand in the air.

"Who are you?" He asked. "And what do you want?"

"KILL THE SPARE!"

"Avada Kedavra!" Wormtail shouted, a green beam of light left his wand, hitting the figure as he fell to the ground.

And as I looked to where the body landed, I gasped in shock.

Cedric Diggory.

I pulled myself away from the vision, gasping as I took in what I saw.

Cedric was going to die in that graveyard.

How we managed to get there? I'm not sure.

But one thing is for sure, I have to be more then prepared for this last task.

Because it could mean life or death, and not even in my case.

And I need to figure out a way to save all of us.

And I had a pretty good idea how I could do that.

Why can't we just have a normal, stress free school year?

Harry's POV

Harry Potter

Disturbed and Dangerous

The boy who defeated He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named is unstable and possibly dangerous, writes Rita Skeeter, Special Correspondent. Alarming evidence has recently come to light about Harry Potter's strange behavior, which casts doubts upon his suitability to compete in a demanding competition like the Triwizard Tournament, or even to attend Hogwarts School.

Potter, the Daily Prophet can exclusively reveal, regularly collapses at school, and is often heard to complain of pain in the scar on his forehead (relic of the curse with which You-Know-Who attempted to kill him). On Monday last, midway through a Divination lesson, your Daily Prophet reporter witnessed Potter storming from the class, claiming that his scar was hurting too badly to continue studying.

It is possible, say top experts at St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, that Potter's brain was affected by the attack inflicted upon him by You-Know-Who, and that his insistence that the scar is still hurting is an expression of his deep-seated confusion. "He might even be pretending," said one specialist. "This could be a plea for attention."

The Daily Prophet, however, has unearthed worrying facts about Harry Potter that Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts, has carefully concealed from the wizarding public.

"Potter can speak Parseltongue," reveals Draco Malfoy, a Hogwarts fourth year. "There were a lot of attacks on students a couple of years ago, and most people thought Potter was behind them after they saw him lose his temper at a dueling club and set a snake on another boy. It was all hushed up, though. But he's made friends with werewolves and giants too. We think he'd do anything for a bit of power."

"His friend Y/N L/N is no different." Malfoy says. "He attacked me for no reason my second year, after I congratulated him on making the Gryffindor Quidditch team. Then, he makes a rather nasty scene in the school for beating up my good friend Viktor Krum, I personally believe he should be locked up and not allowed near anyone."

"Draco Malfoy is lying." Says Samuel Auras, a Ravenclaw fourth year. "He's trying to spin the story around away from the truth. Y/N is one of my best friends and would never hurt someone if they didn't deserve it."

"Malfoy will do anything for attention." Says Heather Weasley of Beaubaxtons Academy. "Like father like son."

L/N was not available for comment.

Parseltongue, the ability to converse with snakes, has long been considered a Dark Art. Indeed, the most famous Parselmouth of our times is none other than You-Know-Who himself. A member of the Dark Force Defense League, who wished to remain unnamed, stated that he would regard any wizard who could speak Parseltongue "as worthy of investigation. Personally, I would be highly suspicious of anybody who could converse with snakes, as serpents are often used in the worst kinds of Dark Magic, and are historically associated with evildoers." Similarly, "anyone who seeks out the company of such vicious creatures as werewolves and giants would appear to have a fondness for violence."

Albus Dumbledore should surely consider whether a boy such as this should be allowed to compete in the Triwizard Tournament. Some fear that Potter might resort to the Dark Arts in desperation to win the tournament, the third task of which takes place this evening.

Well, what a way to start my day.

Rita Skeeter doing what she does best, making numerous articles that were in fact false. Thankfully, it looked like Hermione had found something that might explain how she's been managing to sneak into Hogwarts.

Afterwards, Y/N and I had walked out of the castle towards the Quidditch pitch, where Y/Ns uncle had arrived along with Steven, who was in golden eagle form perched on Thomas's shoulder.

Even the Weasley's had shown up as well as Cedric's father. Krum was with his parents speaking Bulgarian to them, and Fleur was conversing with her cousin and parents.

As I was talking with Thomas, Gabrielle Delacour had ran up to me from her mothers side, and tightly hugged my leg.

"Sorry about that." Fleur said as she pulled Gabrielle off of me. "She's very thankful for you saving her."

"Well, I'm glad she's alright." I said as Fleur smiled.

"I'll see you and Y/N soon."

She then left with Gabrielle and Natasha, but before she could leave, she eyed Bill Weasley.

Well she may not care for Ron, but her older brother she may like.

"Surprise!" Mrs. Weasley said as she kissed me on the head. "Thought we'd come and watch you and Y/N!"

"You alright?" Bill asked. "Charlie wanted to come but he couldn't get time off, he said you two were incredible against your dragons!"

"I'm just surprised I came out alive." Y/N said as we all laughed.

"I'm proud of you, kid." Thomas smiled as he ruffled Y/Ns hair. "After your task is done, I want to introduce you two to someone who works with me at the Ministry, you'll probably like her."

I could notice Steven glaring at Krum intently, leaving Thomas's shoulder as he head butted into Krum harshly. Flying back to Thomas as he perched on his shoulder.

"You better watch your bird!" Krum said angrily. "He could haff hurt me!"

"I deeply apologize." Thomas winked at us. "He seems to be very hostile towards large idiots."

Krum grumbled in annoyance as he and his parents took their leave.

We continued to converse with the others as the students piled themselves in, ready to begin the third task. Hermione and Ron came down to wish us luck, but before she could leave, Hermione pulled Y/N away to the side to talk.

Y/N's POV

"Mione?" I asked as Hermione dragged me to a place where we were alone. "What's wrong?"

She turned to look towards me with her face covered in tears.

"I'd like to say that I was fine." She began. "Like I've been telling you every day for the last few months."

"You can tell me." I said softly as I cupped her face.

"But the truth is, I'm not fine!" She exclaimed, tears rolling down her face. "I'm scared, Y/N. This task is going to be the hardest. You don't know what's out there. What if something happens to you? What could possibly be worse then grindylows and dragons?"

"Hermione—"

"People have died in this tournament before!" She shouted. "There's a reason why the age restriction was put in place!"

As Hermione cried, I brought her in for a tight hug as she cried in my shoulder.

"Any minute." Hermione's voice cracked. "You're going to be walking into that stupid maze, and I'm going to possibly prepare for a world in which you aren't here! I can't lose you Y/N......I don't know what I would do........it would break me."

I brought Hermione in for another hug, this time, I was the one crying into Hermione's shoulder as we held each other.

"I can't say for sure what's going to happen in that maze." I said as I kissed Hermione's head. "But what I do know is, I'm going to do everything in my power to make it back. Cup or no cup, I promise I will come back to you."

Hermione smiled, cupping my hands as her tears stopped.

"Y/N." She said quietly. "I—I love you."

My eyes widened.

"I know it seems much too early to be saying it, but in case something happens to you, I just want you to know that I love you, so much."

"I love you too, pretty girl." I smiled as I planted my lips on her's. Kissing her softly as I wiped the tears from her face.

As we pulled away for air, Hermione brought me in for another tight hug, one we stayed in for a good amount of time.

"Ladies and gentleman!" Dumbledore boomed. "In five minutes time, I will be asking you to make your way down the Quidditch field for the third and final task of the Triwizard Tournament!"

Thank god this will all be over after this.

I looked at Hermione as she kissed my cheek.

"Looks like you've got yourself a tournament to win." She smirked.

I brought her in close, kissing her once more before she joined Selena and Ginny in the stands.

I joined Harry and the others as Bagman came down to us.

"Feeling alright, you lot? Confident?"

"As ready as I'll ever be sir." I responded.

"Earlier today, Professor Moody place the Triwizard Cup," Dumbledore shouted. "Only he knows it's exact location. Now as Mr. Diggory...."

The crowd went insane as Mr. Diggory held up his sons arm proudly.

"Mr. Potter and Mr. L/N...."

The crowd once again cut Dumbledore off as Tom, Kieran, and Axel held up a sign labeled, Pumpkin Smasher.

I laughed, this must be their way of saying how I beat up Krum a few weeks ago.

My friends are great.

"As I was saying." Dumbledore said. "As they are all nearly tied for first place, they will be the first to enter the maze. Followed by Mr. Krum..."

The Bulgarian lot went wild as Krum held up his fist.

"And by Miss Delacour. The first person to touch the cup will be the winner. I've instructed the staff to control the perimeter," Dumbledore said. "If at any point should a contestant wish to withdraw from the task, he or she needs to only send up red sparks with their wands. Contestants, gather around."

We all stood towards the front of the maze, awaiting Dumbledore's instruction.

"In the maze, you'll find no dragons or creatures of the deep." Dumbledore said quietly. "Instead you'll face something more challenging. You see, people change in the maze. Oh, find the cup if you can, but be very weary......you could lose yourself along the way."

Lovely.

I looked towards the maze, surveying the area as I prepared myself.

I have to make it back, win or lose, I have to make it back.

"On the count of three......." Dumbledore said. "ONE....but before he could even count to two, Filch had accidentally fired the cannon. Dumbledore groaned as he gestured us into the maze.

Cedric ran in first with Harry following minutes after.

When it was my turn to go, I headed for the maze, only to be stopped by Professor Moody.

"Good luck, L/N." He said with a sinister grin.

I walked into the maze, still disturbed by earlier as I surveyed the area around me.

Might as well try to find the others.

I took my wand out, running around the maze trying to find the others.

"I'm going to possibly prepare for a world in which you aren't here!"

"I can't lose you Y/N! I don't know what I would do! It would break me......."

"Y/N, I-I love you."

"Promise me you'll come back."

I have to make it back, win or lose, I have to make it back to Hermione and everyone else.

Unfortunately I wasn't looking where I was going, only to run into Viktor Krum himself.

Krum didn't speak, his eyes were glossy white and his mouth was wide open.

Almost as if he was possessed.

"Krum?" I asked as he looked at me.

Surprisingly, Krum did not speak, pointing his wand towards me.

"Time for you to die, L/N." He said in a dark voice.

I knew the guy was an arsehole, but there's no way he'd ever resort to any of this.

"Leave him alone!" A voice called out, Fleur had jumped into the scene, holding her wand as she stood protectively in front of me.

"Fleur, he's posse-"

But before I could warn her, Krum shoved Fleur aside, allowing her to be swallowed up by the plants inside the hedges.

"Fleur!" I shouted.

Krum looked towards me while raising his wand once more.

"Crucio." He said in a cold voice, hitting me as I coiled in pain.

"Hey Krum!" A familiar voice shouted as Krum turned around.

"Crucio." Krum said once more as he aimed towards Harry, who knocked him back towards the ground.

Krum fired some more spells towards him as Harry continued to dodge.

I picked up my wand pointing it towards Krum as I chanted.

"Flipendo!" I said, causing Krum to fall to the ground.

As I got up, I glared towards Krum, I don't know what that was, but Krum was still a bad person.

"Care to do the honors?" I asked Harry as he smirked.

"Gladly."

Harry kicked Krum in the side, before walking towards me.

"Mate, I owe you one." I snickered.

"You've done too much." Harry said. "You don't need to do me any more favors."

"Whatever you say."

"I hope Fleur's going to be okay." Harry said in worry.

"I'm sure she will." I said. "Probably waiting outside the maze for us."

Krum groaned, standing up as he prepared to fire another spell towards us before he was hit by another spell.

Cedric Diggory had attacked him back.

"Get back!" Cedric said as he attacked Krum. Pushing him back to the ground and kicking him in the face. If he wasn't knocked out already, he sure is now.

"Didn't think you'd do that." I said.

"After what happened with you and Krum, it's been a long time coming." Cedric said. "This is some game, huh?"

"Too many things to kill you." Harry followed.

"We should find the cup and get the hell out of here." I said.

We searched around for the next half hour, dodging an abundance of massive spiders and monsters as we maneuvered our way through the maze. Eventually, we found the cup sitting down on a table near the center.

The one cup that I've seen in my visions, and one that was giving me eerie suspicions.

"There it is." Harry said as we ran for the cup.

Behind us, the maze began to disappear, being blown backwards as we inches closer and closer to the cup.

"All together at once?" Cedric asked as we both nodded.

But before we could take the cup, I pulled my wand out, chanting a spell as we grabbed the blue, slowing gauntlet.

"mortem simulare." I said as I pointed towards Cedric, putting it away discreetly.

"Right then." Harry said. "Are you lot ready?"

We both nodded.

"Alright.....one........two..........three!"

We held onto the Triwizard Cup and suddenly, we were shifted someplace else.

Obviously, we were not inside the Hogwarts grounds anymore. Instead, we were in a dark and gloomy cemetery ; there was a small black church overlooking the onslaught of tombstones.

We were in the graveyard.

Specifically, the graveyard I had seen in my visions.

"You alright guys?" Cedric asked as he helped us up.

"I'm alright." I said. "Who knew that cup was a port key?"

"News to me too." He said as he surveyed the area. "Where are we anyway? Is this supposed to be a part of the task?"

"I'm not sure." I replied. "But we should keep our wands out just in case."

"Agreed." The others nodded as we pulled our wands out.

Observing the area, I stopped at a large tombstone towering over the rest. Overlooking the stone was a statue, a tall skeletal figure wearing robes and wearing a scythe. If almost looked eerily similar to a dementor.

"I've been here before." Harry said cautiously, as I looked over the tombstone.

And what I saw made chills run down my body.

THOMAS RIDDLE

1880-1943

MARY RIDDLE

1883-1943

TOM RIDDLE

1905-1943

This was the tombstone for Tom Riddle's family.

Voldemort.

But why would we come here?

"Guys?" Harry said. "We have to get out of here!"

"What are you talking about?" Cedric asked as a figure walked down the hill.

It was Wormtail and small wrinkled body he was carrying.

Harry fell to the ground, clutching his head in pain as Cedric ran over to him.

"Harry!" He exclaimed. "Are you alright?"

Wormtail continued to walk over to us as I took my wand out of my pocket.

"You." I snarled as Wormtail came closer.

"Who are you?" Cedric asked. "What do you want?"

"KILL THE SPARE!" The small figure shouted as Wormtail readied his wand.

"AVADA KEDAVRA!" He said as a green ray of light shot towards Cedric.

"No!" Harry exclaimed "Cedric!"

A/N: My apologies for the cliffhanger.

See you guys next week for the final chapter of Goblet of Fire! Lots to unpack!
