Chapter 45 - The Wand Weighing Ceremony

Y/Ns POV

What in the bloody fuck?

"Harry Potter? Y/N L/N?" Dumbledore called for a second time.

As Dumbledore called our names again, I could feel all the students look towards our direction.

I was so confused, why did the Goblet spew out my name?

I didn't even put my name in, and I'm sure Harry didn't either.

"HARRY POTTER!" Dumbledore bellowed. "Y/N L/N!"

I slowly stood up as I glanced towards Hermione, who looked up at me with a worried expression.

"I'll be okay." I said as I squeezed her hand. "I promise."

She seemed really reluctant to watch me go, but gave me a smile nonetheless.

"Let's go, Harry." I said as we got up and slowly started to approach the champions.

We walked towards the platform, where Dumbledore gave us a heated glare, and Mum looked scared straight.

"They're cheats!" A voice called from the crowd. "They're not even seventeen yet!"

As we approached the Professors, Mum looked extremely concerned. She patted Harry on the back and hugged me as she led us down to the other champions.

Fleur saw us first, she smiled at us but I could tell she was pretty confused. Cedric looked just as puzzled to see me and Harry, and Krum just stood there, not moving a muscle.

"Extraordinary!" Bagman said as he walked in. "Absolutely extraordinary! Gentlemen........lady." He said. "May I introduce-incredible though it may seem-the fourth and fifth Triwizard champion!"

"How?" Fleur asked. "Is zis a joke?"

"I wish it was." I replied.

"Joke?" Bagman ignored me. "No, no! Their names came out of the Goblet of Fire!"

Krum looked at me with a heated glare, one that I returned immediately. He must have finally recognized me as I am always with Hermione.

Cedric still looked confused, and Fleur started to get worried.

"They cannot compete!" She said. "They are too young!

"Thank you!" I said. "Please tell me this is a mistake, I didn't even put my name in!"

"Well.....it is amazing." Bagman said. "But, as you know , the age restriction was only imposed this year as an extra safety measure. And as their names came out of the Goblet...I mean, I don't think there can be any ducking out of this stage.....you're obligated......they will have to do the best they-"

And before he could finish, The Professors, Kakaroff, Maxine, and Crouch came in. "Madam Maxine!" Fleur said. "Zey are saying zat zhey have to compete too!"

"What is ze meaning of zis, Dumbly-door?" Maxine asked Dumbledore.

"I'd rather like to know that myself, Dumbledore!" Kakaroff gritted his yellow teeth.

Does he ever use toothpaste? It is quite effective.

"Three Hogwarts champions? I don't remember anyone telling me the host school is allowed three champions-or have I not read the rules clearly enough?"

"It's no ones fault but Potter and L/N, Kakaroff." Snape said, giving us his usual glare. "Don't go blaming Dumbledore for their determination to break rules. They have been crossing lines ever since they got here-"

"Oh quiet, Severus." Mum said. "Just because you're still upset at something that happened years ago doesn't mean you can blame L/N and Potter."

Wow, thanks Mum.

"It is not in the rules, Igor." Dumbledore said as he turned towards us and calmly said. "Harry, Y/N, did you put your names into the Goblet of Fire?"

A/N: And I want to reiterate, CALMLY

"No, sir." We both said.

"Did you ask one of the older students to do it for you?"

"No sir."

"Why the hell would I do that?"

"Well of course they are lying!" Maxine bellowed.

"The hell they are!" Mad Eye said. "The Goblet of Fire is an exceptionally powerful magical object, only an exceptionally powerful conjurer could have hoodwinked it. Magic beyond the talents of a fourth year!"

"Exactly!" I said.

"You seem to have given this a fair bit of thought, Mad-Eye." Kakaroff said angrily.

"It was once my job to think as dark wizards for, Kakaroff," Moody said. "Perhaps you remember?"

What?

"That doesn't help, Alastor." Dumbledore said. "I leave this to you, Barty."

"The rules are absolute." Crouch said. "The Goblet of Fire constitutes a binding magical contract, Mr. Potter, and Mr. L/N have no choice, they as of tonight, are Triwizard Champions."

"No, I won't allow this!" Mum exclaimed. "We can't let Potter and my godson compete!"

"Then what do you suggest, Minerva?" Dumbledore questioned.

"Put an end to it, of course! This isn't safe for them!"

"Unfortunately, the rules are concrete." Dumbledore said.

"So we do nothing?" I said. "Harry and I could fucking die, don't you get that?!"

"I understand your frustration Y/N." Dumbledore said. "But you have no choice."

He then turned to Moody, "Alastor, keep an eye on them, will you?"

"Won't be a problem." Moody grunted.

Cedric and Fleur looked at both of us in worry, but Krum just stood there, saying nothing until he left alone. Fleur had left shortly after with Madame Maxine, and just as I was about to walk outside with Cedric and Harry, Mum pulled me aside to talk.

"I'm sorry you have to go through this." She said sadly.

"I just don't know how this could happen." I said. "I wonder what Hermione will think."

"Ms. Granger will be around to help you, I'm sure of that." She said. "You also have a vast amount of friends. You and Harry will have to rely on each other from here on out, is that understood?"

"Yes, Mum." I said.

"Good, now you take care of yourself." She said with a smile.

She let us go as Cedric gestured for me and Harry to follow him.

"I know you two didn't put your names in." He said. "But what worries me is how it happened."

I mean, me and Harry always have something that happens to us every year, why is this any different.

"We didn't even come close to the Goblet." Harry said. "But you believe us?"

"I do." Cedric nodded.

Cedric waved us goodbye as Harry and I began the walk back to the Common Room.

Harry's POV

As we walked into the Gryffindor Common Room, we found Hermione on the couch, looking extremely nervous. As she looked up, she walked up to us and hugged both of us, Y/N a little bit longer.

"I know you two didn't put your names in the Goblet." She said.

"Thanks Mione."

"But what did they say?" She asked Y/N. "Do you two really have to compete?"

"We have no choice but to compete." Y/N said. "Otherwise, we d-"

Hermione yelped in fear as she jumped into Y/Ns arms.

"Don't you dare finish that sentence." She said in a stern tone. "That can't happen!"

"I wish that were true." I said.

"Promise me you will both be safe. Promise me you won't get yourselves killed." She cried. "You promise me, Y/N M/N L/N!"

"I promise, Hermione." Y/N said as he continued to hug her. "I promise to try and not get myself killed."

"Good enough." She said into his robes. "I'm going to help you two, in any way I can."

"Thank you, Mione." Y/N smiled. "We do have a bit of time before the first task, around November."

"I'm going to check on Ron." I said. "I'll leave you two alone."

"Good luck with that." Hermione said. "He's acting like a giant git."

"When is he not?" Y/N said as they hugged each other on the couch.

I walked into my dorm that I shared with Ron and saw him on his bed with a look of anger on his face.

"How did you two do it?" He snarled.

I didn't know what to say, so I said nothing at all.

"Never mind. It doesn't matter," he said. "You could have let your best friend know."

"Let you know what?"

"You know bloody well what."

"We didn't ask for this to happen, Ron!" I snapped. "Your just being stupid."

"Yeah, that's me," Ron said. "Ron Weasley, Harry Potters stupid friend."

"Y/N and I did not put our names in the cup!" I shouted. "We don't want eternal glory, Y/N has said for weeks how he didn't want this. I don't know what happened tonight, and I don't know why, it just did, okay!"

"Piss off." He growled.

"With pleasure." I sneered. "Maybe everyone's right, you are a giant git."

I left the dorm and went back to the couches, where Y/N and Hermione were sitting together with their cats.

"How is he?" Y/N asked.

"Acting like an idiot." I said. "He thinks we want more attention."

"Wonderful." Y/N sighed. "I wonder how tomorrow is gonna be."

Y/Ns POV

The day of the wand weighing ceremony came. Ron was still acting like an arsehole and still didn't believe us when we said we didn't put our names in the Goblet.

Whatever.

Surprisingly, a lot of our friends believed us when we said we didn't put our names in. With Selena saying that we always have something happen to us every year.

Which is unfortunately true.

Certain people from different houses didn't believe us however, the vast majority being from Hufflepuff.

Laura wasn't talking to us, and Ashley joined in with her best friend, thinking that we were out to steal Cedric's thunder.

In the Common Room, we were being treated like hero's, and Ron was hating it.

"I mean, I killed a Basilisk, second year." I said.

"And I've survived the killing curse." Harry added.

"Defeated Voldemort a few times."

"Harry, you should write to Sirius!" Hermione said. "You've got to tell him about this! He would have gotten to know, I brought some parchment and quill with me-"

"I agree." I said. "Sirius would want to know all about this, speaking of which, I should write my Dad and Uncle, maybe they can help."

"Okay, okay, I'll write to him." Harry said begrudgingly. "Whose owl am I going to use? He told me not to use Hedwig again."

"We can't ask Ron, he's still in a right state."

"You could use O/N, I'm sending my letter anyway." I suggested.

We made our way to the owlery, Harry wrote his letter and read aloud to us.

Dear Sirius,

You told me to keep you posted on what's happening at Hogwarts, so here it goes-I don't know if you've heard, but the Triwizard Tournament is happening this year and on Saturday night, Y/N and I were picked as champions.

I don't know who put our names in the Goblet of Fire, because I didn't, and I know Y/N didn't either. The other Hogwarts champion is Cedric Diggory, from Hufflepuff.

I hope you're okay, and Buckbeak

-Harry

As we sent out the letter, we all left the owlery. On our way to lunch, there was a large group of Beauxbatons girls, led by Antoinette Henry herself, who gave me a wink and continued on her way.

Hermione was not very happy about this, as I had to hold her hand to keep her from committing assault.

"There's no reason to be jealous." I said as she blushed.

Lunch was pretty quiet to say the least, with hushed whispers going on around us. Even now, me and Harry were still being treated like hero's, with everyone patting us on the back.

"Personally, I don't think you guys put your names in." Sam came up to us. "Crazy things always happen to you every year, so this isn't any different."

"It's good to have some people that believe us." Harry said as we sat next to Ron, who looked extremely pissed as he sat with Seamus and Dean.

"What do you want?" He spat.

"I'm sitting down." I said. "Is that a crime?"

"There's plenty of other places to sit." He snarled. "Why don't you go prepare for your big interview."

"Weasley, I am tired of your bullshit." Sam said. "Just stop talking."

"Really? And what are you going to do about it?" Ron smirked as he turned towards Sam.

And then, Sam did something that I really respect him for, especially with Ron acting this way.

Because he punched him directly in the face, knocking him over onto the floor.

"What the bloody hell was that for!" Ron shouted while holding the side of his face.

"Fuck you, Weasley." Sam said before patting us on the back and heading on his way.

"You know what Ron." I said as I stood over him. "I could give two fucks what you think about me and Harry. Why don't you stop being a jealous piece of shit for once and realize that you have it better than the both of us."

I then stormed out of the Great Hall with Hermione and Harry following, glaring at a terrified Ron.

After that debacle, we were on our way to Snape's class, where we most likely would be made fun of by Malfoy and his goons.

Speaking of which, we passed by Cedric and some other Hufflepuffs. He made eye contact and mouthed the word, "Sorry."

But what about?

My question was answered when Ernie Macmillan and Hannah Abbot came up to us wearing badges. We thought they were S.P.E.W badges at first, but oh were we wrong.

Because these badges conveyed a different messages.

Support Cedric Diggoryโ€”-The Real Hogwarts Champion!

"It's not all they do." Ernie sneered. "Look!" He then pressed the badge so the message changed to say,

Potter and L/N Stink

"You stink Potter." Ernie said

"And you suck L/N," Hannah said.

"That's really cool, Ernie." I said to his confusion. "Mind if I see that really quick?"

He handed me the badge timidly. I then crushed it in my hand until it was completely dismantled.

"Now, get the hell out of our way." I growled. "Before I do that to your face."

I handed Ernie the remaining pieces of the badge and watched him run in the other direction with Hannah trailing behind.

"Bloody hell you are scary when you get mad." Harry said.

"And I have a feeling it's going to get worse." I sighed as I saw Malfoy handing out badges.

So that's where they came from, wonderful.

"Real mature of you bleach boy." I said. "Did you come up with that yourself? Oh wait, you're too stupid for that."

Ron was there, but he didn't even bother to help us as I shot him an angry look.

"Want one Granger?" Malfoy said as he held a badge in front of her. "I've got loads. But don't touch my hand, now. I've just washed it, you see; don't want a Mudblood slumming it up."

"Really?" Heather came up from behind us. "From what I can see, you're the one that's dirty, ferret face."

"Shut up, you ginger bitch." Malfoy sneered.

And that somehow pissed not only me, but Tom and Ron off as well.

Tom ran up to Malfoy and punched him directly in the face as I pulled my wand out.

"You really enjoy making me mad, don't you Malfoy." I laughed as I walked him over to a tree, pinning him against it.

"Calling Hermione that pisses me off, but to say that to another one of my friends, mate, that's quite a step too far."

Malfoy then punched me in the eye, punched me in the face, and drew his wand, to which me and Harry did the same.

"Furnunculus!"

"Densaugeo!"

Harry's spell hit Goyle and Malfoy's spell hit Hermione in the face.

Malfoy's spell caused her teeth to grow abnormally. I ran over to her and shielded her from the other students, who had all congregated in to see what was going on.

Hermione had grown beaver like teeth and was panicking.

"And what is all this noise about?" Snape said as he walked over.

"Potter attacked me sir!"

"We attacked each other at the same time!" Harry yelled.

"He's lying!"

"Oh you are so full of it!"

"And he hit Goyleโ€”"Look!" Snape looked at Goyle, who now had bumps all over his fat face.

"Goyle, hospital wing!" Snape ordered.

"What about, Hermione, Snape?" I said. "Malfoy got her as well!"

"And he called me something that nobody should ever call their mother!" Heather shouted.

I opened my arms to show Hermione's face to Snape.

"I see no difference." He sneered coldly as Malfoy smirked.

Hermione began to whimper and ran away crying, which broke me in the process.

"Hermione-" I said as she took off.

"You son of a bitch!" I shouted at Snape.

"I can see why people hate you!" Heather continued.

"Are you kidding me?" Selena yelled.

"Fuck you, Snape!" Kieran bellowed.

"What the hell?" Mia cried.

"This is complete bullshit!" Sam and Axel both shouted.

"Greasy git!" Leon joined in.

"Go to hell!" Charlie shouted.

"Let's see." Snape sneered. "Fifty points each from Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, and a detention each for Potter, Auras, Leroy-Smith, Winston, Raywood, Kynaston, Blackwood and Grimwood. As well as a detention for Rosewood for attacking Mr. Malfoy."

"The bastard deserved it." Tom muttered from next to me.

"As for you, L/N." He spat. "Three detentions next week for your antics, as well as an extra 20 points from Gryffindor. Now get inside or it'll be another weeks worth of detentions!"

"Guess what, Snivellus." I smirked. "I'm not coming to any of them, now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to find Hermione and take her to the hospital wing.

Snape looked furious as I said the word Snivellus, and I wasn't surprised, I knew my Dad used to call him that in school.

But I didn't care, he was aggravating me so much.

As Snape continued to threaten more detentions, I merely walked away and flipped him off as I went to find Hermione.

I ended up finding Hermione crying in an alcove while covering her face.

"Hey." I said timidly, causing her to jump.

"Hey." She said sadly.

"So you can talk properly?" I asked.

"A bit." She replied.

"Come on." I said holding my arms out. "Let's take you to the hospital wing."

I ended up holding Hermione close to me while hiding her face, so people wouldn't make fun of her on our way over. As we entered, I sat her on the bed and held her hand.

As Madam Pomfrey began to shrink her teeth, I held Hermione close. Madam Pomfrey managed to do it successfully, and Hermione's teeth were back to normal.

"See." I said as I held up a mirror. "It's like nothing ever happened."

"Thank you, Y/N." Hermione smiled as she kissed my cheek. "I don't know what I would do without you."

"Anything for you, Mione." I said as I laid down next to her.

"Excuse me?" Someone said to us, which turned out to be Colin Creevy. "I need Y/N L/N to come with me. For the champions wand weighing."

I turned back to look at Hermione.

"I have to go now, Mione." I said. "I'll be back soon, okay?"

"Alright." Hermione said sadly.

"Don't worry, I'll come back as soon as I'm finished." I said as I kissed her forehead.

"You better." Hermione giggled as I walked out the door with Colin.

"There he is!" Bagman said as I walked in the door. "Champion number five. Nothing to worry about, just the wand weighing ceremony."

"How is she?" Harry asked me as I went to stand next to him.

"Better now." I replied.

"We have to check that your wands are fully functional, no problems, you know, as they're your most important tools in the tasks ahead." Bagman said. "The experts upstairs now with Dumbledore. And there's going to be a little photo shoot. This is Rita Skeeter. She's doing a small piece on the tournament for the Daily Prophet..."

"Maybe not that small, Ludo." Rita Skeeter said. "I wonder if I could have a word with the two youngest champions before we start? You know......to add a bit of color?"

"Harry would be delighted to go first." I smirked.

"Wait wh-"

"Splendid." Skeeter said as she took Harry by the hand and stuffed him into a broom closet. I went over to make conversation with Fleur and Cedric,

But I couldn't help but realize that Krum had been glaring at me for quite some time.

"Why don't you take a picture?" I sneered. "It'll last longer."

He responded with an angry grunt and averted his eyes.

Okay, I am really starting to hate this guy.

After a while, Harry came out with Rita and she asked, "May I see the 5th champion?"

"If he doesn't have any object-" Bagman said before Skeeter rudely interrupted.

"Excellent." She said as she grabbed my arm roughly and dragged me to the same broom closet.

As I was rubbing my arm in pain, she opened her bag, pulled out a quill and some parchment.

"Do you mind if I use a Quick-Quotes Quill?" She asked.

"I don't-"

"Splendid." She interrupted and began to write.

"So, what made you want to enter the Triwizard Tournament?" She asked.

"I didn't enter." I said. "I never went near the Goblet."

However, I spotted the quill writing something completely divergent to what I said before.

Y/N L/N, a handsome young man sitting across from me, still traumatized by the disastrous fate of his Mother, as similar as Harry Potter himselfโ€”-

"Ignore the quill, Y/N." Rita said to me. "Now, why did you enter?"

"I just said I didn't enter!" I said angrily.

"No need to get so defensive." Rita smiled. "But I like that, our readers do love rebels. So, how do you feel about the upcoming tasks? Nervous? Excited?"

"Uh, I guess nervous." I said. "I don't really know what to expect."

"Champions have died in the past, haven't they?" She asked. "Have you thought about that?"

"They made the proper safety measures this year." I said. "So I think it will be safer this year."

"Alright then, onto the juicy details. It's known you are quite the heartthrob for most of the girls around Hogwarts. Tell meโ€”โ€”do you have a girlfriend Y/N?"

"Not currently." I said. "I know some fancy me but thats not a big deal."

"So you do have one?"

"Not what I said."

"What's her name?"

"Did you not just hear me?"

"Come on, just give me the name."

"Are you deaf?"

And by a stroke of luck, Dumbledore opened the doors as Rita looked back at him. "Dumbledore!" She said. "How are you? I hope you saw my piece over the summer about the international Confederation of Wizards Conference?"

"Enchantingly nasty." Dumbledore remarked with a hint of sarcasm. "I particularly enjoyed your description of me as an obsolete dingbat. I would appreciate it if you let Mr. L/N out of the closet. Wand weighing is about to begin."

Rita let me out, and as she did, i felt very relieved to be out of her presence.

"Thank you, sir." I said to Dumbledore. "What a nasty woman."

Dumbledore merely smiled as he led me over to the others.

Kakaroff, Maxine, Mr. Crouch and Bagman stood in front and watched the five of us while Rita stood in the corner and continued to write.

"May I introduce, Mr. Ollivander?" Dumbledore said as the man who gave us my wand walked in. "He will be checking your wands to ensure that they are in good condition before the tournament."

"Mademoiselle Delacour, May I see you first, please?" Ollivander said as Fleur handed him her wand. He examined it and spun the wand in his hands.

"Yes...nine and a half inches...inflexible....rosewood and containing.....oh dear me..."

"And a 'air from ze head of a Veela." Fleur said. "One of my grandmothers."

Very interesting.

"Yes, yes." Ollivander said. "I've never used Veela hair myself, of course, I find it makes more for temperamental wands.....however, to each it's own, and if this suits you.."

He held the wand high and said, "Orchideous!"

And a bouquet of flowers burst from the tip.

"Very well, very well." Ollivander said. "In fine working order." He then handed Fleurs wand back and called for Cedric.

"Ah, now, this is one of mine, isn't it?" Ollivander said joyfully as Cedric nodded. "And I remember this well, a single hair of a particularly fine male unicorn...may have been seventeen hands; nearly gored me with his horn after I plucked his tail. Twelve and a quarter inches.....ash.......pleasantly springy. It's in fine condition.....you treat it regularly?"

"Polished it last night." Cedric smiled.

Great minds think alike.

Ollivander then sent a stream of smoke rings and gave it back to Cedric as he asked for Krum.

I now realize that Krum's head is in the perfect shape of an egg.

It is pretty funny.

"Mr. Krum, if you please."

Krum just merely threw his wand over at Ollivander.

"Hmm." Ollivander said. "This......is a Gregorovitch creation, unless I'm mistaken? A fine wand maker, though the styling is not very pleasant.....however."

He turned Krum's wand over and examined it. "Ah, yes......hornbeam and dragon heartstring? Rather thicker than one usually sees....quite rigid......ten and a quarter inches......Avis!"

The wand shot out a vast number of birds out of its tip. "Good." Ollivander said as he handed Krum's wand back to him.

"Which leaves Mr. Potter and Mr. L/N." He said with a smile. "Ahh yes, I remember quite well."

He examined Harry's wand the longest and made a fountain of water shoot out of his wand before handing it back to Harry and came towards me.

"Ahh, I remember yours quite well." Ollivander said as he took my wand. "If I recall correctly...W/W.....W/C......W/L.......and in fine condition!" He handed back my wand with a smile on his face.

W/W: Wand Wood

W/C: Wand Core

W/L: Wand Length

In case anyone needed clarification

Krum then let out a noticeable grunt.

"You wanted to add something?" I said angrily.

He simply continued to glare at me.

"Er, thank you all." Dumbledore said from the judges panel. "You May go back to your lessons now - or perhaps down to dinner, as they are about to end."

"Don't mind if Iโ€”"

"Photos, Dumbledore, photos!" Bagman cried out. "All the judges and champions, what do you think Rita?"

"Surely we don't need ph-" Harry said.

"Yes, let's do those first." Rita said with her eyes still on Harry and I. "And perhaps some individual shots."

Photos were a nightmare and took way longer than I expected.

After our individual photos, we all left for dinner, where I left Harry to go talk to Selena as I grabbed some dinner for myself as well as Hermione, I also grabbed my Walkman as I made my way back to the hospital wing.

As I arrived, Hermione smiled with her teeth back to normal and hugged me tightly.

"Brought you dinner." I said as she smiled.

I told her all about the wand-weighing ceremony, Rita and some other things.

I ended up staying there for the rest of the night, just talking to Hermione about anything and everything.

It seemed like she was feeling a lot better after the incident with Snape, which made me smile.

"I also brought this." I said as I pulled out my Walkman. "Found some songs you might like."

Hermione smiled excitedly as I climbed into the bed next to her, and gave her an earphone.

I turned on my Walkman and turned on "Dreams." By Fleetwood Mac.

"Now here you go again, you say you want your freedom
Well, who am I to keep you down?
It's only right that you should play the way you feel it
But listen carefully to the sound of your loneliness."

"Like a heartbeat drives you mad
In the stillness of remembering what you had
And what you lost
And what you had
And what you lost."

"Oh, thunder only happens when it's raining
Players only love you when they're playing
Say, women, they will come and they will go
When the rain washes you clean, you'll know
You'll know."

Eventually, after listening to the Walkman for a while, Hermione wrapped her arms around me as we drifted off to sleep.
