Chapter 33 - The Marauders Map
Harry's POV
I woke up in the hospital wing where I found Y/N, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, and Selena Raywood standing next to me.
"How you feeling mate?" Y/N asked. "You gave us a good scare."
"Ugh, what happened?" I groaned.
"Well, you fell off your broom." Ron said. "Dumbledore saved you."
"Really?" I asked. "I meant the match, who won?"
"We did." Y/N smirked. "You have a strange habit of catching the snitch while falling."
Really? I won the match without even being conscious? Wow.
"Dumbledore was furious about the dementors." Hermione coninued. "They aren't supposed to be on the grounds. After he saved you, he sent them off."
We continued to talk about the match and what had happened with the dementors until Selena spoke up.
"There's something you should know Harry." She said.
I swear, I could see her blush while she was talking.
"When you fell." Ron continued. "Your broom sort of fell into the Whomping Willow, and...well you know the tree...it doesn't take too kindly to things blowing into it."
Y/N then reached into Ron's bag and turned it upside down.
Revealing my now broken and shattered broomstick.
The broom that I had received my first year, and the broom I was hoping to use until my seventh year was now destroyed.
At least we won the match.

A few days later, Professor Lupin had come back from wherever to everyone's delight. He was very confused as to why Snape had assigned us homework.
"It's not fair, he was only filling in!"
"Why should he give us homework?"
"We don't know anything about werewolves!"
"Two rolls of parchment!"
Lupin simply smiled. "Don't worry. I'll speak to Professor Snape. You don't have to do the essay."
"Oh no!" Hermione said. "But I already finished it."
"Here." Y/N said. "Let me give it a look."
After a few seconds, he gave the essay back.
"Brilliant as always Mione! Full marks." He said as Hermione blushed.
Gods, I have to admit those two are cute together.
After the class, Lupin had held me back to talk about the dementors. "I'm sorry to hear about your broomstick. Is there any chance of fixing it?"
"No." I sighed. "Professor, why do the dementors affect me so? More than anyone else I mean."
Lupin sighed. "Dementors are the foulest creatures to walk this earth. They feed on every good feeling. Every happy memory...until a person is left with absolutely nothing but his or her worst experiences. You are not weak, Harry. Dementors affect you most because there are horrors in your past. You have nothing to be ashamed of."
"I'm scared Professor."
"I'd consider you a fool if you weren't."
"I need to know how to fight them." I continued. "Maybe you could teach me! You made the ones on the train go away."
"Those were the only ones that night."
"But you made it go away."
"I don't pretend to be an expert, Harry." Lupin said. "But as the dementors have seemed to take an interest in you...perhaps I should teach you. But after the holidays. Now now, I need to rest."
I nodded and made my way out of the classroom.
"Oh, Harry." Lupin called getting my attention. "Do tell Y/N to join us for these lessons, he will benefit from them as well."
"Absolutely Professor."

It's been a month after and it was time for the second trip to Hogsmeade.
"Last call for Hogsmeade!" Professor McGonagall said.
Even though I was not allowed to go like last time, I still wanted to find a way to spend time with Y/N, Hermione, and Ron. The problem was, I needed to find a foolproof way to get there.
So what better option than to use my invisibility cloak.
I grabbed the cloak, put it on, and began my journey to Hogsmeade.
Five steps into my walk, I felt two arms joining together at my joints, not letting me go.
"You were close, Harry." Fred said.
"But no cigar!" George continued.
"C'mon guys, let me go!" I said. "I'm trying to get to Hogsmeade."
"We know." Fred said.
"But we know a better way." George continued.
"Follow us!" They said together.
They brought me over to a corridor and sat me down as they kneeled.
"Now Harry."
"Why don't you come and join the big boys." Fred said while taking the cloak off of me.
"What are you doing?" I asked as they shoved a piece of parchment over to me. "What the hell is this?"
"This right here, Harry." Fred said. "Is the secret to our success."
"George, would you care to do the honors?" Fred asked his brother."
"Don't mind if I do."
George took out his wand and placed it onto the part parchment.ย
"I solemnly swear that I am up to no good."
All of a sudden, the map came to life, leaping up names from all corners of the map. In one area, I saw Y/N, Hermione, and Ron were in a carriage together on their way to Hogsmeade. Dumbledore was in his office, and Filch was skulking around in the castle.
Above the drawing, the map composed the words:
Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, Aquila, and Prongs
Purveyors of Aids to Magical Mischief-Makers are proud to present
THE MARAUDERS MAP
"Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, Aquila, and Prongs." George gave an exaggerated sigh. "We owe them so much."
"Such noble men." Fred continued. "Working tirelessly to help a new generation of law breakers."
"And that." George pointed to the map. "Is really Dumbledore."
"Is it really?"
"Oh yes."
"In his study."
"Pacing."
"He does that quite a bit."
"So this map shows.."
"Everyone."
"Where they are."
"What they're doing."
"Every minute."
"Of every day."
"It's absolutely brilliant."
"Wow." I said. "Where did you get it?"
"Nicked it from Filch's office, of course!" George said. "First year."
"There are seven secret passageways out of the castle." Fred said. "We recommend this one. The One-Eyed Witch passageway. It'll lead you right to Honeydukes."
Suddenly, the sound of footsteps came into the corridor as we spoke. "Hurry, Filch is coming this way. And don't forget. When you're done, just give it a tap and say 'Mischief Managed.' Otherwise, anyone can read it."
The twins then left and I was ready to make my way to Hogsmeade.
Bless you, Fred and George.
Y/Ns POV
As the carriages arrived at Hogsmeade, Ron immediately left me and Hermione to go along with Laura and some of her other friends.
Apparently, those two have gotten to be very good friends since the start of the year. Honestly, I think Ron fancies her.
Like last time, Hermione had her arms linked around mine as we explored Hogsmeade. We went back to Honeydukes and got some sweets, and to some other shops to buy Christmas presents.
Hermione had been pleading the past few days for me to go to the Shrieking Shack with her. I had no problem with it since she looked absolutely adorable getting excited about going.
"It's meant to be the most haunted place in Britain!" She exclaimed. "Did I mention that?"
"A fair few." I teased. "But it's really cute seeing you excited like this."
"Prat." She giggled as she smacked my arm. "Shall we go closer?"
"Let's do it."
We intertwined our hands together and walked a bit closer to the dark and eerie cabin.
"You know." Hermione said. "Even the Hogwarts ghosts avoid it. Did I mention that it's the most haunted place in Britain?"
"About twice in the past 2 minutes."
"Sorry, I'm just so excited to be here....with you.....it's just.....perfect."
"Yeah...it is isn't it?"
I don't know what happened after that, but I stood there looking into Hermione's eyes. Those beautiful brown eyes. And just like what happened at the Leaky Cauldron, our heads began to turn in the opposite direction as we leaned into each other, our lips just centimeters away from touching, but then....
"Oh how cute." A certain blonde git made his presence known. "Honestly, it makes me sick."
Why is he stalking us so much?
"Do you take pride in being an annoying git?" I said. "You know, for someone who doesn't want anything to do with us, you sure have an annoying tendency to show up anywhere that we are."
"Are you two shopping for your dream home?" He sneered. "I suppose this is the best you can do anyways. Dark, and gloomy such as yourself L/N, and who could care that much for a Mudblood such as yourself Granger?"
"I told you not to use that word again, bleach boy." I said angrily.
"Not very friendly." Malfoy said to Crabbe and Goyle. "Boys I think it's time we teach these two how to respect their superiors."
"Ha." Hermione said. "Superiors? I really hope you don't mean yourselves."
"How dare you speak to me!" Malfoy shouted. "You filthy little Mudblood!"
"You want a repeat of the Quidditch Pitch?" I threatened, taking a few steps forward.
SMACK
Before I could do anything, a ball of mud smacked Malfoy across the face, making him fall to the ground in shock. His blonde hair was now dripping with slimy brown filth.
"Pretend you are using magic." A voice whispered next to me.
"Harry?" I whispered back.
"The one and only."
I simply smirked as I raised my hands and flung them as Harry was now throwing snowballs at them.
"Don't just stand there." Malfoy screamed. "Do something!"
"It's very haunted up here, isn't it." Hermione giggled.
"Shut up Mudblood!"
Hermione's POV
As I was laughing at Malfoy's and his friends misfortune, Vincent Crabbe came rushing towards me looking very angry, with his fist in the air.
I braced myself to be hit.
But the punch never came.
Because in front of me, was Y/N grabbing Crabbe's collar and holding him in the air with one hand. With his other hand, he punched Crabbe right in the gut and knocked him onto the ground.
"Don't even think about it." Y/N mumbled under his breath.
He then kicked Crabbe right in the stomach before all three Slytherins scurried off in fear.
Nobody has ever defended me like that before.
"Thank you Y/N." I said sweetly. "But you shouldn't have done that, you'll be in so much trouble."
"I could care less." He responded. "Like I said before, nobody tries to hurt you and gets away with it."
I gave him a smile and a tight hug before Ron arrived behind us.
"I saw the whole thing!" He exclaimed. "What did you do to them?"
"It wasn't just me." Y/N responded. "All I did was raise my hands, the rest was courtesy of our good friend Harry Potter."
He grabbed ahold of something in the air and pulled down, to reveal our raven haired friend.
"Harry!" I exclaimed.
"Bloody hell, Harry that was great." Ron said.

Y/Ns POV
After me and Harry's skirmish with Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle, we arrived at the Three Broomsticks.
Harry explained to us how he had gotten to Hogsmeade with help from the Marauders Map. It was brilliant, you can see anyone on it. Like Dumbledore pacing around in his office, and Snape lurking around the castle.
"Those Weasels!" Ron said. "Never told me about any Marauders Map, I'm their brother!"
"Yeah but so is Percy." I said. "Should he have it?"
"Well....no but."
"Proves my point."
"Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, Aquila, and Prongs." Harry said. "I wonder who they could be."
"Whoever they are, they are absolutely brilliant for making this map." I said as Hermione smacked my arm.
"Ow, Mione that hurt."
"Harry will turn it into Professor McGonagall." Hermione said aloud. "You will do it, right?"
"Yeah." Ron scoffed. "Along with the invisibility cloak.
"And the numerous joke shop items." I added.
"Oh look who it is." Hermione said as a woman walked in.
"That's Madam Rosmerta." I added. "I believe Ron fancies her."
"That's not true!" Ron said. "I fancy someone else."
"Sharing is caring Ronald." Hermione remarked.
"She's not here right now, but I'd rather not say."
"Alright then." I said. "Keep your secrets."
Along with Madam Rosmerta, a familiar face walked into the building, revealing himself to be Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic and a man that I absolutely despised.
As Ron spotted him, he pushed Harry underneath the table.
"Professor McGonagall!" Fudge announced.
"Cornelius." Mum said with a hint of distaste.
"Allow me Minister."
"Oh, Hagrid."
"Sorry about that."
"Rosmerta my dear." Fudge said. "I hope business is good."
"It'd be a lot better if the Ministry wasn't sending dementors.....into my pub every other night."
She clearly sounds agitated.
"My dear." Fudge said. "We have.....We have a killer on the loose!"
"Sirius Black in Hogsmeade! But what would bring him here?"
"Harry Potter."
"Harry Potter?"
"Nobody's going to go to a pub where they're going to be scared out of their wits." Rosmerta said.
"Rosmerta." Fudge said. "I don't like them any more than you do. Necessary precaution....unfortunate, but there you are.....I've just met some of them. They're in a fury against Dumbledore, he won't let them inside the castle grounds."
"I should think not." Mum spoke up. "How are we supposed to teach with those horrors floating around?"
"Hear, hear!" Professor Flitwick said, entering the conversation.
"All the same." Fudge continued. "They're here to protect you all from something much worse....we all know what Blacks capable of..."
"Do you know, I still have difficulty believing it." Rosmerta said. "Of all the people to go to the Dark side, Sirius Black was the last I'd have thought....I mean, I remember him when he was a boy at Hogwarts. If you'd have told me then what he was going to become, I'd have said you'd have too much mead."
"You don't know the half of it, Rosmerta." Fudge continued. "The worst he did isn't widely known."
"Worst? Worse than murdering all of those poor people, you mean?" Rosmerta asked.
"I certainly do."
"I can't believe that! What could be much worse?"
"You say you remember him at Hogwarts, Rosmerta." Mum said. "Do you remember who his best friends were?"
"Naturally. Never saw any of them apart from another, did you? Oh, the number of times I had them in here...ohh, they used to make me laugh. Quite the triple act, Sirius Black, Steven L/N, and James Potter."
My dad was friends with a murderer? I can't believe it.
"Precisely." Mum continued. "Black, L/N, and Potter. Ringleaders of their little gang. All very bright of course....exceptionally bright, in fact....but I don't think we've ever had a group of troublemakers-"
"I dunno." Hagrid said. "Fred and George Weasley could give those three a run fer their money."
"You would think the three of them were brothers!"
"Of course they were!" Fudge exclaimed. "Until years ago, when James and Lily realized they were marked for death....you remember? They went into hiding. Few knew were they were. Two who did were Steven L/N and Sirius Black."
"While L/N kept his word, Black told You-Know-Who!"
"Not only did Black lead You-Know-Who to the Potters that night, but he also killed one of their friends, Peter Pettigrew!"
"Peter Pettigrew? Where have I heard that name before..."
"Peter Pettigrew?"
"Wasn't he the lumpy boy who was always trailing after Black?"
"Ah, I remember now. Never let James, Steven, or Sirius out of his sight. But what happened?"
"Well, about a year after the murder of Emily L/N, Pettigrew tried to warn the Potters...and might have managed to, had he not run into and old friend, Sirius Black."
"Black was vicious." Fudge said. "He didn't kill Pettigrew, He destroyed him! A finger. That's all that was left of him. Just a finger. Nothing else."
"Yes. Sirius Black may not have put his hands to the Potters." Mum said. "But he is the reason they're dead."
"And now he wants to finish what they started. But that's not even the worst of it."
What Fudge had said next shocked us all, more shocked then we were earlier in the conversation.
"Sirius Black was....and remains to this day.....Harry Potters Godfather."
We were appalled, but nobody was more shocked than Harry mind you. He took the invisibility cloak, covered himself up, and ran out of the pub. Hermione grabbed my hand as we exited the bar and found Harry crying underneath his cloak.
"Harry?" Hermione asked timidly as she lifted up the cloak.
Harry looked up and shouted, "He was their friend...and he betrayed them! He was their friend! I hope he does find me. Because when he does, I'm going to be ready!"
Ready how exactly?
โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ
The ride back to the castle was very quiet. Nobody knew what to say after the relevation that a murderer was Harry's godfather. It was very unexpected.
Harry made his way back to Hogsmeade on his own, since he didn't come with us.
When we got back to the castle, Harry went on and on about how he wanted to kill Black every time we had mentioned it to him. I tried to calm him down and told him that murder is not worth it and he'll be just like Black.
But being as stubborn as he is, he wouldn't listen to me.
I went days of trying to talk to him but he still wouldn't listen.
But I've also had time to think about if I was put into Harry's shoes. I think I would have also thought about killing Black if he was the sole reason my parents were dead.
One night, I was reading a book with Gracie and Crookshanks curled up next to each other by the fire.
"No funny business you two." I said in a serious tone
I really sound like an overprotective parent don't I?
Hermione then came downstairs and hugged herself into me by the fire. We sat in a comfortable silence until I went to stand up.
"I'll be right back Mione." I said. "I have to go talk to Mum about something."
"Ok, just don't stay out too late." She smiled.
"I'll be back." I said as I kissed her cheek.
I made my way out of the common room to Mum's classroom, it wasn't that late but I needed to talk to her about something I've been thinking about for a few months now.
"Y/N." Mum said as I entered the room. "What are you doing here at a time like this?"
"Mum." I said as took a breath.
"I'd like to learn how to become an animagus."
