Chapter 26 - Heir Vs Heir/End of Another Year

Y/Ns POV

I stood there in shock. I couldn't believe that I was a living descendent of Godric Gryffindor and Rowena Ravenclaw.

Come to think of it, it really shouldn't be that surprising. The Sorting Hat did tell me that my bravery and knowledge exceeded any other student he's seen before.

Before I could think about this anymore, my thoughts were broken by Riddle.

"Do you see now Y/N?" He asked. "You and I were meant to be mortal enemies. It's not a surprise to see the both of you here. Well no matter, now I can kill you both!"

Before he could continue, a loud cry was heard above us along with a musical sound. We all looked up to see a Phoenix, coming along with an object in its talons.

"Fawkes?" Harry said in question.

This must be Dumbledore's pet Phoenix.

Fawkes flew around in a circle and dropped the object onto the ground. I ran over and unbundled it. To mud surprise, it happened to be the object that placed me into Gryffindor.

The Sorting Hat.

"So this is what Dumbledore sends his great defenders." Riddle sneered. "A songbird and an old hat." He then turned around to the face of Salazar Slytherin and spoke loudly in Parseltongue.

A rumble shook the Chamber and Riddle turned back to us with a venomous glare. "Let's match the power of Lord Voldemort, the heir to Salazar Slytherin, against the famous Harry Potter and Y/N L/N, the heir to Gryffindor and Ravenclaw."

So there may or may not be a giant snake coming to kill us.

Snarls came from inside the Chamber as the Basilisk came out. I looked back to the Sorting Hat, wondering why Dumbledore would send it to us.

I reached my hand into the hot and felt around to see if I could find anything. As the Basilisk came closer to us, I felt my hand on a handle with some ridges on it.

Dumbledore, you absolute genius!

I pulled out the object from the hat and raised it towards the snake, revealing itself to be a long silver sword embedded with red jewels.

It sounds crazy, but when I drew the sword, it just felt right, like I was meant to have this sword at some point.

With my wand in my other hand, I yelled "EXPELLIARMUS!" At Riddle, making him drop Harry's wand to the ground as Harry went over to grab it.

"You take care of Riddle!" I shouted to Harry.

"What about you?" He shouted back.

"I'm about to go skin this god damn snake." I said while twirling the sword in my hand.

Harry's POV

While Y/N was going head to head with the Basilisk, I was fighting Riddle.

"AVADA KEDAVRA!" He yelled with his own wand, I dodged the spell and fired back a few of my own. "Parseltongue won't save you Potter. It obeys me!" KILL HIM!" Riddle yelled.

The Basilisk made its move, but Y/N dodged everything with the sword and his wand in his hands. The timing of his dodges were very precise.

Riddle hit me with another spell, which sent me flying back next to Y/N, causing my glasses to fall off of my face. When I put them back on, the Basilisk was suddenly right above us.

Before it could attack, Fawkes flew above it and pecked at its eyes, causing it to screech loudly in pain. "No! Your bird may have blinded the Basilisk, but it can still hear you."

Y/N jumped up immediately and began to slash the sword, making the Basilisk lunge backwards and rushed towards a stalactite, smashing it to pieces and sending us both flying in opposite directions.

"Yes, the process is almost complete." Riddle said as I went near Ginnys body. "In a few minutes, Ginny Weasley will be dead and I will cease to be a memory. Lord Voldemort will return.....very.....much....alive."

"Ginny.." I said as I grabbed her hand.

The Basilisk was about to kill us. I was awaiting my last moments alive, until..

"Over....my.....dead.....body." Y/N said as he stood up. The side of his head was bleeding and blood was coming from the edge of his lip. Yet, he still stood tall.

As he charged up to the Basilisk, the sword flew back into his hand. He held the sword, protecting me and Ginny, ready to kill the Basilisk.

Y/N then ran over and slid under the Basilisks tail, ran over to the beard of Salazar Slytherins statue and climbed. He pulled himself up the face of the statue, finding foot holes and dodging strikes from the Basilisk.

Eventually, he reached the top and stood with the sword out in front of him.

I gasped and covered my eyes as the Basilisk went in for the killing blow. I opened my eyes and was surprised to see the sword becoming visible at the back of the Basilisks head.

Imagine that is Y/N

Y/N had killed the Basilisk.

The snake roared in pain, but before it died, it struck Y/N with one of its fangs.

"If I'm going to die." The snake said in my head. "Then you're coming with me."

The snake fell backwards as Y/N looked at the fang in his arm and collapsed to the ground. I inched over to him as Riddle walked over to us.

"Remarkable isn't it?" Riddle said. "How quickly the venom of the basilisk penetrates the body. You're dead Y/N L/N! I'm going to sit here and watch you die. Take your time, I want to enjoy this moment."

"So ends the mighty heir of Gryffindor and Ravenclaw." He added maliciously. "You'll only have a little more than a minute to live. No matter, you'll be with your mudblood father and your blood traitor mother soon."

"Do....you.....ever.....shut the f*ck up?" Y/N croaked as he grasped the fang in his body and placed in into my hands.

I knew what I had to do. I took the fang, made my way over to the book, and stared Riddle in the face.

When he realized what I was about to do, his face turned from a smug grin into a face of fear. "What are you doing?" He asked in fear as I moved the fang over the book. "Stop!"

I didn't care, he killed my parents and now my best friend is dying because of him.

Without giving it a second thought, I struck the fang into the book, as it literally bled ink through the punctured hole.

"No!" Riddle cried as his body started to crumble. He tried to make his way over to me, so I stabbed the book once more. Riddle recoiled in pain as his body disintegrated into dust.

Tom Riddle was no longer there.

Suddenly, Ginny woke up and sat up straight.

"Harry it was me." She said while hyperventilating. "But I swear I didn't mean to.....Riddle made me."

"It's alright." I reassured her. "Riddle is finished. I killed him. Y/N killed the Basilisk, but....but."

"Ginny?" Y/N croaked once more. "You're a-awake. H-Harry?"

"I'm right here, mate." I said frantically as I came closer with Ginny. "You're going to be okay."

"You heard Riddle, Harry. Basilisk venom can kill just as much as its stare. I don't think I have enough time left."

"Don't say that Y/N!" I said. "You're going to be okay."

"You've been the brother I've never had Harry." Y/N said. "And I've got you to thank for that. Just please tell Hermione something for me okay?"

"You tell her yourself." I said with tears coming from my eyes.

"Tell her...I'm sorry for not keeping my promise. If I'm going to die, I just want her to know.....I care about her so much. I did kill the monster, so I guess I did something good, right?"

With that, his eyes shut and it seemed like he wasn't breathing anymore. Ginny began to tear up as I comforted her.

What am I going to tell Hermione? This is surely going to devastate her. Especially after what Y/N just said.....

Fawkes then flew over us and perched himself right next to me. The Phoenix began to tear up, as it seemed to recognize the loss from that had just happened. It's tears dropped onto Y/Ns wound from the fang. Suddenly, his skin started to regrow over the wound until there was no wound present.

And then his eyes opened.

"What the hell?" Y/N said. "This isn't heaven."

Before he could continue, Ginny cut him off and brought him in for a tight hug. I then followed up with a hug of my own.

"You brilliant bird Fawkes." I said.

"I guess I don't have to share a bathroom with Moaning Myrtle, huh?" He chuckled. Clearly regaining his sense of humor.

We stood up and walked out of the Chamber with Fawkes on Y/Ns shoulder and the sword in his hand.

Ron was visible when we turned the corner to where the rocks had fallen.

"Ginny!" He screamed. Hugging her tightly.

"You should have seen it Ron!" I said eagerly. "Tom Riddle is Voldemort. Y/N killed a Basilisk. I killed Tom! Y/N even died!"

"Wait a minute." Ron said. "Y/N died!?"

"Let's talk about that later." Y/N said. "Let's just get the hell out of here. Grab onto Fawkes."

Y/Ns POV

The three of us now stood in front of Professor Dumbledore in his office. He had sent Ginny to the hospital wing with Madam Pomfrey to make sure she was okay. Mr. and Mrs. Weasley had thanked us profusely for saving her.

Fawkes had sat down on his perch and allowed us to stoke his feathers. The sword I had as well as the Sorting Hat were on Dumbledores desk.

"You three do realize, of course." Dumbledore said. "That in the past few hours, you have broken, perhaps a dozen school rules."

"Yes sir." We all said.

"And there is sufficient evidence to have you expelled."

"Yes sir."

"Therefore it is only fitting." We all looked up to Dumbledore.

"That you three receive special awards for services to the school."

I f*cking love this man.

We all smiled at each other and back at Dumbledore.

"Thanks, sir." Ron said as Dumbledore beamed.

"And now, Mr. Weasley, if you would, have an owl deliver these release papers to Azkaban." Dumbledore said while passing a few papers to him. "I believe we.....want our gamekeeper back."

Ron left the room to go towards the Owlery as Harry and I stayed back. "Harry, Y/N, first, I want to thank you both. You both must have shown real loyalty down in the Chamber. Nothing but that could've called Fawkes to the both of you. And second...I sense that something is troubling the both of you. Am I right?"

"You see sir." Harry said. "I couldn't help but notice...certain similarities between Tom Riddle and myself."

"I see. Well, you can speak Parseltongue, Harry. Why? Because Lord Voldemort can speak Parseltongue. If I'm not mistaken, Harry, he transferred to you the night he gave you that scar."

"Voldemort transferred some of his powers....to me?"

"Uh-huh. Not intentionally. But yes."

"What about me Professor?" I asked. "Is it true that I'm the Heir of both Gryffindor and Ravenclaw?"

Dumbledore sighed. "Yes it is true Y/N. You are the Heir of both Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. You are a very powerful young wizard, even if you haven't grasped your full potential just yet."

"Is that why Tom was so interested in me all those years ago?" I asked.

"Tom Riddle knew how powerful you could be." Dumbledore said. "He saw you as another potential threat to his plans just like Harry. You happen to possess certain abilities that can rival his."

"Will I be able to learn these abilities in time?" I asked eagerly.

"In time yes." Dumbledore said smiling.

"That brings me to my next question." I said. "The sword I pulled out, how did it fit in there? In the Sorting Hat?"

"Ahh, i see your curiosity, Y/N." Dumbledore answered. "Let me answer your question with another. What if I told you....it has always been there? If you look at the name on the sword, you will see."

Harry and I walked up to the sword to find the red letters engraved into it. The words read:

GODRIC GRYFFINDOR.

"Godric Gryffindor is your ancestor Y/N. If you want any proof of why you belong in Gryffindor, then it is right there."

The doors behind us swung open as the three of us looked back to see Lucius Malfoy and surprisingly...Dobby?

"Dobby!" I said. "This is your master? You serve the Malfoys?"

"Mm-hmm." Dobby said nervously as he looked up to Lucius.

"I'll deal with you later." Lucius said as Dobby cowered and pushed the both of us out of the way. "Out of the way, Potter, L/N. So it is true. You have returned."

"When the governors learned that Arthur Weasleys daughter was taken into the Chamber, they saw need to summon me back."

"Ridiculous!" Lucius said as he held his head up high.

"Curiously, Lucius, several of them were under the impression that you would curse their families, if they did not agree to suspend me in the first place.

Makes sense.

"How dare you?" Lucius sneered.

"I beg your pardon?" Dumbledore asked.

"My sole concern has always been, and always will be, the welfare of this school and of course, it's students. The culprit has been identified I presume?"

"Oh, yes."

"And? Who was it?"

"Voldemort. Only this time, he chose to act through somebody else, by means of this." He raised the diary that Harry destroyed. "Fortunately, our young Mr. Potter and Mr. L/N discovered it. One hopes that no more of Lord Voldemort's old school things should find their way into innocent hands. The consequences for the one responsible would be severe."

"Well let us hope that Mr. Potter and Mr. L/N will always be there to save the day." He glared at the both of us. "Come on Dobby. We're leaving." He then pushed Dobby down the stairs. As they walked out, Harry looked to me, I nodded and turned my attention to Dumbledore.

"Sir, is it alright if I could have that?"

Dumbledore then handed the diary over to me as I ran over to Lucius.

"I'll take care of this." I said to Harry. "You go enjoy the feast."

He nodded and then went on his way.

"Oi! Mr. Malfoy!" I yelled. "I have something of yours!"

"Mine?" He snapped. "I don't know what your talking about."

"Quit lying." I said. "I know you dropped that damn diary into Ginnys cauldron in Diagon Alley."

"You do, do you?" He said as he took the book and gave it to Dobby. "Why don't you prove it?" I just stood there, waiting for the right moment.

"Come, Dobby!" He said, walking off. "Dobby!"

Before Dobby could follow him, I said, "Open it."

Dobby opened the book and it landed on a page where a sock laid on it.

"Dobby!"

"Master has given Dobby a sock!" Dobby exclaimed.

"What! I didn't give-" Lucius looked back to see the sock in Dobbys hands and looked furiously at me.

"Master has presented Dobby with clothes!" Dobby cried once more. "Dobby is free!"

Lucius looked absolutely furious at me as he pulled his wand from his walking stick. "You've lost me my servant boy!" He walked towards me and in the most hoarse voice he could ever make, he shouted, "AVADA-"

But before he could finish, Dobby stood in front of me. "You shall not harm Y/N L/N!" With a push of his hand, Dobby made Lucius fly onto the ground.

As he got up off the ground, he spat furiously.

"One of these days L/N, your going to meet the same damned fate as your parents. They too, were meddlesome fools."

I gritted my teeth angrily to withhold my anger.

With another glare, Lucius Malfoy swung his cloak around him and turned on his heel, walking off in the distance.

"Y/N L/N freed Dobby!" Dobby exclaimed.

"It's the least I could do Dobby." I said. "Just promise me one thing, don't try to save our lives again."

Dobby nodded reluctantly but smiled nonetheless.

"Now I've got to go to the feast, I still need to change, and Hermione should be out of the hospital wing by now. I'll see you around Dobby."

Dobby smiled as we went our seperate ways.

After changing, I arrived at the Great Hall, the feast had already began and I was really happy.

Honestly, down in the Chamber, there was a moment where I thought I would never see this place again. Thankfully that didn't happen.

I gazed over to the Gryffindor table, where I saw Harry and Ron looking up at me and smiling.

Then I shifted my gaze to see Hermione sitting right next to them.

As soon as we looked at each other, she ran up to me with a big smile on her face as I dashed towards her.

When we met in the middle, I picked her up and spun her around. Giving her a tight hug.

God I missed her so much.

"Harry told me what happened in the Chamber Y/N." She said as we pulled apart with her hands around my neck. "I was so worried, you almost died!"

That's my Hermione, always the worrier.

"Now you know how I felt when you were petrified." I said. " but it's okay, You're back, and unfortunately for you, I'm not going anywhere."

"I wouldn't have it any other way." She replied while smiling.

I gave her another quick hug.

"I missed you so much." I said.

"I missed you too."

As we separated, we made our way back to our friends at the Gryffindor table, where we enjoyed the amazing food, and great company celebrating our victory.

We won the House Cup for the second year in a row, Mum had announced that all end of year exams had been cancelled, much to Hermione's disappointment, and Professor Dumbledore had announced that Lockhart would not be able to return next year, owing to the fact that he needed to go away to get his memory fixed.

And what could make this day better?

Hagrid had been released from Azkaban and was now returning to Hogwarts.

For the rest of the time, we just enjoyed the last of our second year together.

The day after the End-Of-Year Feast, it was time to go back home. All of my things were packed and ready to go. Before I left to board I talked to Mum one last time until the following year.

When we entered the train, I sat next to Hermione, just like always, and Harry sat right next to Ron. We spent the entire way back hearing jokes from the twins, playing a very fun game called exploding snap, and just talking about our summer plans.

Eventually, we arrived at the Platform and got off the train. Mrs. Weasley was there waiting for her children.

Ron left with his family, leaving me with Harry and Hermione. Eventually, Harry's horrible family came to pick him up.

"Take care mate." I said. "Let me know if they cause more trouble for ya, I'll come pick you up."

"I'm looking forward to it." Harry smiled as he left with the Dursley's.

Hermione's parents arrived and before she left, she made me promise to write to her everyday while she would do the same.

"Goodbye Y/N." She said. "Have a good summer."

And before she left, she stood on her toes, put her hand on my left cheek, and softly kissed the other.

I mean she's done it before, but not in front of this many people. It was a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.

"I'll see you soon Mione." I said giving her one last hug before she left with her parents.

I was by myself for a bit until Uncle Thomas came up to me.

"Good year?" He asked.

"About the same." I replied.

"Listen." He said. "Professor Dumbledore told me about what happened. I'm sorry I wasn't the one to tell you."

"It's okay." I said. "I forgive you just, no more secrets please."

He nodded and smiled back as we walked off of the platform, back into the Muggle World.

A/N: Finally done with COS! The first two books are quite a struggle to get through.
