Chapter 25 - Secrets Revealed
Y/Ns POV
Its been four days since we were almost killed by spiders, and I have been visiting Hermione daily while also trying to look for any piece of paper that I could find.
I have a pretty good theory that Hermione had found the identity of the beast from the book I read, and she had the page that was currently missing.
Today, me, Harry, and Ron were in the the hospital wing visiting Hermione with Mums permission. She didn't even question us going to see her, since she knew how affected we were from her being petrified. Me especially.
When we arrived at the hospital wing, Madam Pomfrey being the strict woman that she was, reluctantly let us in.
I was still feeling sad and guilty that this happened to her. I still blame myself for her attack, and I don't care if anyone says different.
If we ever find the monster, it's going to be me who kills it.
"Wish you were here, Hermione." Harry said. "We need you. Now more than ever."
I brushed some stray hairs out of the way of her gleaming eyes and kissed her temple softly.
"I promise, I will never let this ever happen to you again. 'Mione." I whispered sadly into her ear.
"It wasn't your fault mate." Ron said.
Harry seemed to be quite distracted looking at something crunched up in Hermione's hand. It was a crumbled up piece of paper.
"What the hell?" I said. "I've been visiting her daily and I didn't even notice that."
Harry pulled the paper free from her grasp and read it aloud. His eyes widened as he read through the paper.
"Of the many fearsome beasts that roam our land, none is more curious and more deadly than the Basilisk, known as the King of Serpents. This snake, which may reach gigantic size, and live many hundreds of years, is born from a chickens egg, hatched beneath a toad. It's methods of killing are most wondrous, for aside from its deadly and venomous fangs, the Basilisk has a murderous stare, and all who are fixed with the beam of its eye shall suffer instant death. Spiders flee before the Basilisk, for it is their mortal enemy, and the Basilisk flees only from the crowing of the rooster, which is fatal to it.
Pipes.
"Well that answers that question." I said. "The monster is a Basilisk!"
"But if it only kills by looking people in the eyes," Ron questioned. "Why is it no ones dead?"
"Because no one did." Harry said.
"What?" Ron asked. "Have you gone bloody mental?"
"He's right." I said while walking towards Colin and his camera. "No one died because no one looked directly at its eyes."
"Colin had his camera, so he must have seen it through the lens." Harry said.
I then walked over to the other victims.
"Justin may have seen it through Nearly Headless Nick. Since Nick is already a ghost, he can't die because he is already dead. Penelope must have seen it through a mirror or a window. Since Hermione was holding a mirror at the time, that's how she must have seen it."
"And Mrs Norris?" Ron asked. "She couldn't have had a camera or a mirror."
"She didn't need to." I said eagerly. "There was a puddle underneath Mrs Norris, so she only could see the Basilisks reflection."
"And how was it getting around?" Ron asked. "A big, bloody snake, someone could have seen it."
"The pipes!" Harry exclaimed. "Hermione answered that one too! It's using the plumbing!"
"Hermione you beautiful genius!" I exclaimed while kissing her temple quickly. Forgetting that Ron and Harry were still in the room.
"Shut up guys." I laughed while the others had smug looks on their faces.
"Wait." Harry said. "Remember what Aragog said? About that girl 50 years ago, she died in a bathroom. Who's to say she never left?"
Son of a b*tch
"Moaning Myrtle." We all said collectively.
"Boys." I said. "We have just solved the Chamber of Secrets mystery all by ourselves."
Suddenly, a voice came from the speakers above us. "All students are to return to their dormitories immediately." Mum said. "All teachers to the second floor corridor at once."
What is going on now?
Ron and Harry got up to leave while I stayed behind.
"I'll catch up with you guys." I said. "I just want a moment alone with her, as crazy as it sounds."
"Of course, mate." Harry said.
As Harry, and Ron left the hospital wing, I looked back towards Hermione.
"Hey 'Mione." I said while sitting down on a chair. "Believe it or not, it's been a long time since I've smiled. I'm really sorry for letting this happen to you. It's been tough for all of us since this happened, but today you gave us hope, hope that we can stop what is going on. And we've got you to thank for that."
God, I missed her so much. She lights up everyday around here. She's always been there for me, the good times and the bad. Things just haven't been the same without her. I missed everything about her. Her beautiful brown eyes, her bushy brown hair, the times where we would hold hands and intertwine our fingers together, and how she would hug and even kiss me on the cheek sometimes.
"I really miss you a lot, you know that?" I said. "But hopefully you will be back with us soon. Hopefully you can forgive me too." I then leaned down and kissed her cheek softly and walked over to the door where Harry and Ron were waiting for me.
"Doing better?" Ron asked.
"Loads." I said. What was Mum talking about on the speaker?
"Let's find out." Harry said as we made our way to the second floor corridor.
As we all arrived at the corridor, Mum, Professor Snape, Professor Flitwick, Madam Pomfrey, and Filch were all looking at a new message written in blood on the wall, just like the first.
"As you can see," Mum directed toward them. "The Heir of Slytherin has left another message. Our worst fear has been realized, a student has been taken by the monster, into the Chamber itself!"
She looked sadly at the group. "The students must be sent home. I'm afraid this is the end of Hogwarts."
Just then, a certain brainless guy arrived wearing a disgusting smile on his face. "So sorry. Dozed off. What have I missed?" He asked the professors with a grin.
Mum was not very happy.
I still don't know why Dumbledore even hired him.
"A girl has been snatched by the monster, Gilderoy." Mum addressed him coldly. "Your moment has come at last."
"My.....moment?" Lockhart asked.
"Weren't you saying just last night you've known all along where the Chamber of Secrets is?" Snape asked with a smirk.
Lies. All lies.
"Yes and you told me." Flitwick continued. "That you knew who the Heir of Slytherin was?"
This has to be the most comical thing I've seen.
Before Lockhart could respond, Mum answered him. "That's settled. Well leave you to deal with the monster, Gilderoy. Your skills after all, are legend."
"Very well." Lockhart gulped. "I'll be in my office, getting, uh.....getting ready." He then left with a look of regret.
That's right Lockhart, get exposed for your lies.
"Who is that the monsters taken, Minerva?" Madam Pomfrey asked.
Mum turned to her with a face full of concern. "Ginny Weasley."
We all gasped in shock as the Professors cleared out of the corridor to reveal the message.
"Her skeleton will lie in the Chamber forever." Ron read the message.
He was absolutely devastated after he heard his sister was kidnapped.
"Ginny."
"I can't believe I'm saying this." I said. "But we should follow Lockhart. He's incredibly useless, but if he's going to try and get into the Chamber, we have to tell him what we know."
We ran towards the DATDA classroom in hopes of getting to him before he left, as we entered, we noticed he wasn't leaving to go to the Chamber.
The bastard was leaving Hogwarts in general.
"Going somewhere?" Harry asked.
"Um.....well, yes. Urgent call. Unavoidable. Uh, got to go."
"What about my sister?" Ron said angrily.
"Uh, well, um....As to that, most unfortunate." Lockhart said. "No one regrets more than I."
"I knew it." I said in a rage. "Your nothing but a f*cking liar."
"Your the Defense Aganist the Dark Arts teacher." Harry said.
"Well I must say, when I took the job, there was nothing in the job description aboutโ"
"Your running away?" Ron asked. "After all that stuff you said in your books?"
"Books can be misleading."
"But you wrote them."
"Harry." I said. "He lied, he's done nothing that he says in his books. He's nothing but a complete fraud."
"My books wouldn't have sold half as well if people didn't think I'd done all those things."
"So you take credit for what other people have done?" Harry asked.
"Harry, Harry. It's not nearly as simple as that. There was work involved. I had to track these people down. Ask them how they managed to do what they did. Then I had to put a memory charm on them so that they couldn't remember a thing. If there's one thing I pride myself on, it's my memory charms." He slammed the lid of his trunk shut and turned around to the three of us.
"Let's see.....I think now that's everything. Yes, only one thing left to do."
Lockhart whipped out his wand and aimed it straight between Harry's eyes.
"Awfully sorry, boys, but I'll have to put a memory charm on you now. Can't have you blabbing my secrets all over the place. Especially you L/N."
"Expelliarmus!" Harry yelled.
Lockhart's wand flew out of his hand and was caught by me.
"Shouldn't have let Professor Snape teach us that one." Ron smirked.
I looked at it and muttered 'Bombarda.' Blowing up his wand into several different pieces.
Before Lockhart could respond, Harry, Ron, and I pointed our wands directly at Lockhart.
"Listen here you lying piece of s*it." I said angrily. "You try anything at all, and something worse will happen to you."
"What d'you want me to do?" Lockhart asked. "I don't know where the Chamber is!"
No s*it
"Well, your in luck." Harry said. "We think we know where it is and what is inside. And you are coming with us."
We pulled Lockhart out of the classroom and made our way to Moaning Myrtles bathroom.
As we walked down, Ron came over to me and whispered, "Remind me not to get on your bad side mate."
"I wouldn't want to be on my bad side either." I replied.
Time to finish this.
โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ-
As we entered Myrtles bathroom, she came flying towards us. "Oh who's there?"
As she found who her visitors were, she smiled and blushed.
"Oh hello, Y/N. What are you doing here?"
"Hi Myrtle, we came to ask how you died." I said.
Very blunt, but it is what we came for.
"Oh." Myrtle said as her smile faded. "It was dreadful. It happened right here in this very cubicle. I'd hidden because Olive Hornby was teasing me about my glasses. I was crying, and then....I heard somebody come in."
"Who was it, Myrtle?" Harry asked.
"I don't know. I was distraught!" Myrtle whaled. "But they said something funny, like a made up language, and I realized it was a boy speaking, so I unlocked the door to tell him to go away, and....I died."
"That's it?" I asked. "How?"
"I just remember seeing a pair of great yellow eyes, over there, by that sink." Myrtle turned her head to the sinks near the bathroom, where me and Hermione concocted the Polyjuice Potion during the holidays.
Myrtle flew back towards the stalls as we walked up to the sinks. I twisted the tap to the sink, but nothing happened.
Harry was looking at another thing as we walked over to join him. Harry was looking at a snake carved into the sink.
"This is it." Harry said. "This is it. I think this is the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets."
"Why did Slytherin put it in the girls bathroom?" Ron asked.
"Creepy arse." I replied.
I pointed my wand at the sinks and fired spell after spell at them. Spells were ricocheting off the walls and started to destroy the bathroom entirely.
"Well that's clearly not working."
"Why don't you say something." Ron suggested to Harry.
"What?"
"Say something in Parseltongue." I caught on.
Harry walked up forward to the towards the sink and spoke something in Parseltongue to the sinks.
Something moved from the top of the sink while all the sinks moved outward which made us and Lockhart moved out of the way. The sink with the snake pulled downward to reveal the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets.
"Excellent, boys." Lockhart looked around nervously. "Well then, I'll just be, uh....there's no need for me to stay."
Before he could exit, I got in front of him.
"Actually there is reason for you to stay." I smirked. "You are going down first."
"What good would that do?" Lockhart wailed.
"Better you than us." Ron added.
"Um, obviously, yes." Lockhart said nervously when we brought him towards the entrance. "Sure you don't want to test it out first?"
"That's where you come in." Harry said. "You are the test run."
With that, I pushed Lockhart down into the hole as he yelped in fear. We then heard a thump as his voice rang out. "It's quite filthy down here."
"Did we ask?" I yelled back down.
I despise this man.
"Shall we go?" Harry asked as we all nodded in agreement.
"Oh, Y/N?" Myrtle grabbed our attention. "If you die down there, you're welcome to share my toilet."
"Um.....thanks Myrtle, I'll be sure to keep that in mind." I said.
We turned to the opening and jumped onto what was a slide. When we slid down to the bottom, Lockhart was down there, brushing dirt off of himself, we all got to our feet and looked around.
"Remember guys." Harry administered. "Any sign of movement, close your eyes straight away."
"Aye, aye, captain." I replied.
"Let's go." Ron said as we pushed Lockhart as he followed Harry.
โโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโโ
We then entered a room with a rather large snakeskin.
"This way." Harry said.
"What's this?" Ron asked while walking near the skin.
"It looks like a......snake." Lockhart said.
"No." I said sarcastically. "It's a bunny rabbit. Jesus Christ what did you think the monster was."
"Bloody hell." Ron said in astonishment. "Whatever shed this must be sixty feet long, or more." As Ron finished, Lockhart fainted to the ground."
"Heart of a f*cking lion this one." I said sarcastically.
Lockhart then jumped to his feet, grabbed one of the wands and pointed it at us. "The adventure ends here, boys." He said with another stupid grin on his face. "But don't fret. The world will know our story. How I was too late to save the girl, how you three tragically lost your minds at the sight of her body...."
I tightened my fist, ready to give him what he deserves.
"You first, Mr. L/N, for insulting me." He said pointing the wand at my face. "Say goodbye to your memories."
I looked to see what wand he was using and simply smirked.
Lockhart was using Ron's wand.
His broken wand.
With Spello-tape.
"Do it b*tch." I said.
"OBLIVIATE!" Lockhart shouted, but instead of his desired effect of erasing all of my memories, he blew himself backwards into a wall. The rocks around us began to fall onto the floor, causing me and Harry to go on one side, and Ron on the other with Lockhart's body.
"Harry!" Ron yelled out. "Y/N!"
"Ron we're okay." Harry said. "Are you?"
"I'm fine!" Ron said. "But this gits not."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Lockhart's memory spell backfired!" Ron exclaimed. "The idiot hasn't got a clue who he is anymore!"
The idiot erased his own memory, poetic justice at its finest.
"What do we do now?" Ron asked.
"You wait here." Harry said. "And try to shift some rocks so we can get through. We'll go on to find Ginny."
The both of us went to open the door behind us with seven snake locks on it.
Harry spoke in Parseltongue to it, causing it to open while the snakes retracted one by one. While they slithered away, the door opened and the two of us walked into the Chamber.
We continued on through the Chamber. In front of us was a giant face with several snake heads around. In the middle of it all was Ginny, who was laying there motionless.
"Ginny!" We both yelled as we ran up to her. As we got to her body, Harry dropped to his knees. "Ginny please don't be dead. Wake up. Wake up, please!"
"She won't wake." A different voice said. As we looked up, we found a taller boy in Slytherin robes with a sick grin on his face.
Tom Riddle.
"Tom?" Harry asked. "Tom Riddle? What do you mean she won't wake? She's not....."
"She's still alive." Tom reassured. "But only just."
"Are you a ghost?" I asked.
"A memory, preserved in a diary for fifty years."
"Y/N." Harry said. "Shes as cold as ice. Ginny, please don't be dead."
"Tom you've got to help us." I said. "There's a Basilisk."
"It won't come until it's called."
I think he knows about the Basilisk.
Surprisingly, Riddle now held Harry's wand in his own hand.
"Give me my wand, Tom." Harry said.
"You won't be needing it."
"Harry..."
"Listen." Harry said ignoring me. "We've got to go. We've got to save her!"
"I'm afraid I can't do that Harry." Riddle said. "You see, as poor Ginny grows weaker, I grow stronger."
We were both confused while Tom was speaking, until it finally made sense.
"Yes, you two." Tom said. "It was Ginny Weasley who opened the Chamber of Secrets."
"No she couldn't. She wouldn't."
"It was Ginny who set the Basilisk on the Mudbloods and Filches cat." He said as I turned angrier at the use of that word.
"It was Ginny, who wrote the threatening messages on the wall."
"But why!" I shouted impatiently.
"Because I told her to. You'll find I can be very persuasive. Not that she knew what she was doing. She was, shall we say, in a kind of trance. Still the power of the diary began to scare her. And she tried to dispose of it in the girls bathroom. And then, who should find it but you? The very two people i am most anxious to meet."
"And why do you want to meet us?" Harry asked.
"I knew I had to talk to you, meet you if I could. So i decided to show you my capture of that brainless oaf Hagrid to gain your trust." Riddle said.
He framed Hagrid 50 years ago.
"You shut the hell up!" I shouted. "Hagrid's our friend."
"It was my word against Hagrid's. Only Dumbledore seemed to think he was innocent."
"I bet Dumbledore saw right through you." Harry said.
"He certainly kept an annoyingly close watch on me after that. I knew it wouldn't be safe to open the Chamber again while I was at school, so I decided to leave behind a diary, preserving my sixteen-year-old self in its pages, so that one day, I would be able to lead another, to finish Salazar Slytherins noble work."
"You won't finish it this time." I said. "In a few hours, the Mandrakes will be ready. And everyone you petrified will be well again."
"Haven't I told you? Killing Mudbloods doesn't matter to me anymore. For many months now, my new target has been you two."
"What the hell could you possibly want with us?" I asked.
"How is it that a baby with no extraordinary magical talent was able to defeat the greatest wizard of all time? How did you escape with nothing but a scar while Voldemort's powers were destroyed?" He asked Harry.
"Why do you care how I escaped." Harry asked. "Voldemort was past your time."
Riddle smiled evilly and wickedly. "Voldemort......is my past, present, and future."
What?
Using Harry's wand, he turned around and spelled his full name.
Tom Marvalo Riddle
When he finished writing his name in midair, he flicked the wand, rearranging the letters in the process.
I AM LORD VOLDEMORT
Oh. S*it
Harry and I faced him as the letters faded away while Riddle continued to smile evilly.
"You're Voldemort."
"Surely you didn't think I was going to keep my filth Muggle fathers name? I fashioned myself a new name, a name I knew wizards everywhere would one day fear to speak when I became the greatest sorcerer in the world!"
"Well that's too bad." Harry shouted. "Albus Dumbledore is the greatest sorcerer in the world!"
"Dumbledores been driven out of this castle by the mere memory of me!"
"What do you want with me?" I asked gaining his attention. "Why are you so interested in me?"
"Oh Y/N." He said with a wicked smile. "You are more of interest to me than you could have ever thought. Even more so then Potter here."
"What the hell are you talking about?" I scowled.
"You are more powerful then you realize Y/N." He said. "You happen to be my greatest adversary. A threat to my goals."
"What?"
"You boy, are the living descendent of both Godric Gryffindor and Rowena Ravenclaw!"
