Chapter 19 - Writing on The Walls

Y/Ns POV

It's been a few days since the incident on the Quidditch field and I've really made a name for myself around the school.

The Gryffindors, Ravenclaws, and Hufflepuffs were praising me for finally giving Malfoy what he deserved. Meanwhile I have made myself unpopular with most of the Slytherins. Draco's henchmen Crabbe, and Goyle would always try to trip me in the hallways by sticking their feet out and doing other things to try and embarrass me.

Malfoy had also taken it upon himself to make life miserable for every muggle born in the school. Pestering them with insults and curses.

I gave him a little talk of my own and for the time being, he isn't going to be bothering anyone else for a while.

I was currently walking through the castle going back towards the common room until a girl with green Slytherin robes bumped into me.

Christ, what is it with me and running into girls?

"I'm really sorry." She said as I helped her pick up her things. "It isn't like me to not look where I'm going."

Wait, a Slytherin who is being kind? What is going on?

"Uh, yeah it's no problem." I said.

She had brown hair and hazel eyes. If I'm being honest she was a bit cute, not as cute as Hermione however.

"You must be the infamous Y/N L/N." She said. "Draco says so many things about you."

"I'm sure he praises me like a saint." I said sarcastically.

"Oh quite the contrary." She responded. "But I've never liked Malfoy anyway. It was quite relieving to see the arse kicking he deserves."

I guess some Slytherins aren't that bad after all.

"Pansy Parkinson." She said as she held her hand out.

"Pleasure." I said while shaking it.

"I have to go now, but maybe I'll see you around?" She asked.

"Absolutely." I responded while smiling.

I continued on my way to the common room.

Hermione's POV

Today was September 19th, which happened to be my 13th birthday. I woke up with a big smile on my face and ran down to the common room. There I saw Y/N near the Fat Lady.

"Happy birth-". But before he could finish, I threw my arms around his neck and brought him in for a tight hug.

"Damn Mione, you are a tight hugger." He said as I released my embrace. "Happy birthday."

He handed me a small wrapped box from within his clothes. I tore open the box to find a very nice looking locket. Inside was a picture of our little quartet together on the train.

Photo Reference something like this.

I smiled with tears in my eyes, hugged him once more and kissed him on the cheek.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" I exclaimed.

"Your welcome." He said with a smile. "Happy birthday Mione."

I grabbed his hand and we went down to breakfast.

A few days later I was changing into my nightdress and getting ready to climb into bed. It had been a pretty long day and I really wanted to go to sleep. Unfortunately, before I could close my eyes, the curtains surrounding my bed were immediately swung open.

"Get up Hermione! It's time for some boy talk!" Lavender Brown squealed.

"What do you mean boy talk?" I asked.

"Well, we've been here for a little over a year, it's time to discuss the boys!" Parvarti Patil exclaimed.

I had grown to be great friends with the girls in my dorm. Parvati Patil, Lavender Brown, Fay Dunbar, and myself have grown very close from staying in the same dorm and having late night conversations.

A/N: Yes, I added Fay Dunbar from the video games.

"I don't get the appeal." I said from my bed. "We should really just be focusing on our studies."

"You're one to talk Hermione." Fay said. "We see you attached to Y/N all the time."

I blushed slightly. "Well of course." I said. "Y/N happens to be my best friend."

"Oh Gods." Parvarti said with a dreamy look on her face. "Y/N is so cute, especially his eyes. I bet he has abs!"

I started to have a very weird feeling in my stomach. I knew that Parvarti had a big crush on Y/N ever since first year.

"I think Harry's pretty cute." Lavender said. "He's so famous but he acts so humble about it."

The girls began to discuss the other second year boys in Gryffindor and what they liked about them. I just listened attentively.

"I would say that Deans a bit cute."

"Ronald is kind of an idiot."

"Don't even get me started on Seamus."

"Neville is pretty nice."

"I heard that Laura Bennett from Hufflepuff has a small crush on Y/N." Said Fay. "So do a couple of girls in Ravenclaw.

Once again, I felt that same weird feeling in my stomach. Laura was the Hufflepuff girl from our first Herbology Class that couldn't keep her eyes off Y/N.

"We all know that Y/N and Hermione are going to end up together eventually." Lavender giggled.

"Guys I don't like him like that." I said while blushing furiously.

"Suit yourself! He's mine." Parvati replied.

"He's not an object Parvati!" I shouted while glaring at her. I was getting very angry and annoyed with her for claiming Y/N like he's a prize to be won.

"Hermione Jean Granger! Are you jealous?" Fay asked.

I once again, blushed furiously. Maybe I am jealous that Y/N is getting all of this attention. Maybe I do have a small crush on him. I mean what's not to like about Y/N. He's smart, kind, funny, and he's loyal.

Plus those sparkling eyes and that award winning smile cap it all off pretty nicely.

But I don't want a boyfriend now, I'm only thirteen.

"Well, I think it's time we go to sleep." Lavender said, looking at the rest of us. We all nodded in response.

I buried myself in my duvet that night with a lot on my mind. But there is one thing I can't deny.

I have a small crush on my best friend. And there is no way I am letting Parvati steal him.

Y/Ns POV

October came by pretty quickly and me, Ron, and Hermione were sitting in the common room. Ron was doing some potions homework while Hermione and me were playing with Gracie. I had gotten her a nice mouse toy to play with a few weeks ago and she loves it.

"You better keep that bloody toe rag away from Scabbers." Ron said from across the room. Clearly concerned about the safety of his precious rat.

I was about to retaliate until Harry ran through the portrait hole.

"We're going to a death day party!" He exclaimed.

"A what now?" I asked.

He went on to explain how he was invited by Sir Nicholas to attend the anniversary of the day he died and we were to come with.

"A Deathday Party?" Hermione asked. "I bet there aren't any living people who can say they've been to one of thoseโ€”it'll be fascinating."

Who the hell wants to celebrate the day they died?

Halloween eventually rolled around fairly quick and the Deathday party was just around the corner. Harry was clearly regretting his decision to accept the invitation.

"A promise is a promise." Hermione told Harry as we looked sadly at the Great Hall. "You said you'd go to the Deathday Party."

"I made no such promise." I said while making my way back to the Great Hall. "I will see you guys tonight."

Unfortunately, a very murderous looking Hermione grabbed me by the ear and dragged me along with the rest.

"We don't have to stay the entire time, do we Harry?" Ron asked.

"I suppose we could bail after half an hour or so." Harry replied. "I do have to tell the Headless Hunt how "scary" Nick is."

"Only thing scary is the inside of his f*cking neck." I replied.

"Good evening, my dear friends. Welcome, welcome...so pleased you could come...." Nearly Headless Nick was floating through the wall as we were talking and made us jump in fright.

He can be a bit scary, when he wants to be that is.

We followed Nick into a very sombre dungeon, there were no lights besides a chandelier in the center that was burning blue flames on black candles. The places was filled with pellucid people. They all seemed to be drifting back and forth around what looked like a dance floor.

What we heard next was an awful sound. Like someone pulling the plastic straw up and down into your cup.

"Is that supposed to be music?" Ron asked.

"Suppose so." I replied. "Shall we go have a look around?"

Many of the other ghosts in the dungeon were very recognizable to us as well as any other guests who were alive. There was the Fat Friar, who was the Hufflepuff ghost, the Bloody Baron, the Slytherin Ghost, and Peeves, who was hiding in a corner looking like he was plotting something mischievous.

"This is dead depressing." I said. "I've seen cemeteries with more life."

"Oh no." Hermione stopped abruptly l. "Turn back, turn back, I don't want to talk to Moaning Myrtle."

"Who?" Harry asked.

"She haunts the girls toilets on the first floor."

"So like Malfoy." I replied.

"Look, food!" Ron exclaimed looking like he was in heaven. That boy will do anything for food.

Unfortunately, nothing looked edible to us. There was a nasty stench that was quite disturbing. It was disgusting. There was an enormous cake in the middle that was shaped like a tombstone, with tar-like icing that formed the words,

SIR NICHOLAS DE MIMSY-PORPINGTON

DIED 31ST OCTOBER, 1492

"Are you able to taste it if you walk through it?" Harry asked a random ghost.

"Barely." The ghost replied as it drifted off.

"Deathday parties sound fascinating they said." I muttered under my breathe. "Tons of fun they said."

Hermione gave me a hard elbow to the ribs.

"I didn't know it would be like this." She exclaimed, defending herself

"Let's move. I feel sick.." Ron said while pinching his nose.

We had barely turned around, when a familiar ghost came from under the table and came to a halt in front of our group.

"Hello Peeves." Harry said cautiously.

"Nibbles?" He asked sweetly. He offered us a bowl of peanuts covered in fungus.

Why the hell did I allow myself to come.

"No thanks." Hermione said.

"Heard you talking about poor Myrtle. Rude you were about poor Myrtle. OI!! MYRTLE!!" He screamed at the top of his lungs.

"Oh no Peeves, don't tell her what I said, she'll be really upset," Hermione said frantically. "I didn't mean it, I don't mind her." These attempts didn't matter however, as Myrtle came floating over to us.

"Hello Myrtle!" Hermione said cheerily.

"What." Myrtle replied while sulking.

"How are you Myrtle?" Hermione asked in a false cheery voice. "It's nice to see you out of the toilet."

At that last line, me, Harry, and Ron couldn't hold in our laughter "Out of the toilet." We laughed slightly as Myrtle turned to face me.

"What's so funny? Cmon say it, you all want to gloat at poor Moaning Myrtle." The ghost remarked. She was on the verge of tears which made me step back slightly.

"Miss Granger was just talking about you-" Peeves said slyly into Myrtles ear. "Just saying-"

"How nice you look tonight!" I said while defending Hermione.

"Well You look very handsome yourself tonight." Myrtle giggled as she blushed profusely.

I could see Hermione giving a heavy glare in Myrtles direction.

Myrtle then flew off with Peeves.

"Enjoying yourselves?" Nearly Headless Nick came from behind us.

"Yes!" Said Harry.

"100%"said Ron.

"I've been looking forwards to this all night!" I gave a false reply.

Hermione stayed quiet.

"Not a bad turnout," he stated proudly. The Wailing Willow came up from Kent....it's nearly time for my speech, I'd better go and warn the orchestra."

"Harry, it's been more than thirty minutes let's just f*cking leave." I whispered in his ear.

Nobody objected to this and we exited the dark and eerie room.

Harry's POV

Well I went to a Deathday party. That's quite something.

We finally made our way back to the warm, and brightly lit corridors of Hogwarts.

"Maybe there's some pudding left." Ron said hopefully, leading the way back to the Great Hall.

"We might not be that lu-" I stopped when I suddenly heard a loud voice echoing inside my head.

COME, COME, COME TO ME. COME TO ME.

"Where's that voice coming from? It's so loud!!" I yelled.

"What voice?" Y/N asked.

"It's saying 'come to me' I said. "How are you not hearing it? It's the loudest thing in the room."

BLOOD, I SMELL BLOOD, LET ME RIP YOU. LET ME KILL YOU. KILL! KILL! KILL! The voice called out excessively.

I ran down the corridor with the others chasing me. They were very confused and I don't know how they were not hearing the voice.

As we made our way down the corridor, the voice interrupted again,

ITS TIME

"It's moving! It's going to kill someone!" I said running off in the direction of the voice. While we were running, I spotted a line of spiders running in a different direction.

"Strange." Y/N said. "I've never seen spiders act like that."

"I don't like spiders." Ron whimpered. "What's that?"

I looked up to find a huge message spread over in blood over the wall. Underneath it, was a huge puddle of water. In front of the message, something was floating very still.

The message wrote:

What are we getting ourselves into this year?

A/N: In case I didn't mention, this book is a combination of both the book and movie scenes.

I got the "girl talk" idea from the extremely talented kieran_w , if you haven't checked out his work, I strongly recommend doing so!
