Chapter 16 - The Blonde Bastard

Y/Ns POV

A few minutes later, The Weasleys, me, and Harry were all lined up to make our way into the fireplace. Since me and Harry were the guests, we were able to go first using floo powder.

"Right. Here we are, Harry." Mrs Weasley said. "You go first."

"Mum, Harry's never traveled by Floo powered before." Ron said.

"What's floo powder." Harry asked.

"Oh well, Ron you go first, so that Harry can see how it's done." Mrs Weasley said.

Ron then stepped in, took a handful of floo powder, and held out his hand so Harry could watch. He shouted "Diagon Alley!" and dropped the powder, walking into the green fire.

"You see? It's quite easy dear." Mrs Weasley said. "Now remember, when you get into the fire, say where your going—-"

"Keep your elbows tucked in." Fred advised.

"Don't fidget." I said. "Or you'll end up falling into the wrong fireplace."

Harry grabbed a fistful of the powder and threw it into the flames. It made a hissing sound and the flames turned green.

"D-Dia-gon Alley," He said as he walked into the flames.

"Jesus Christ." I said while facepalming.

"What did he say?" Mrs Weasley asked looking very puzzled.

"Dia-gon Alley" I said while taking a fistful of powder and walking up to the flames. "I'll go get him."

I threw the powder down and shouted "Dia-gon Alley!"

After entering the fireplace, I fell down face first onto the floor. I got up and noticed that I was in a dark alley.

Y/N? I heard a voice call out which sounded a lot like Harry's voice.

"Yes it's me." I responded.

"Why did you follow me?" He asked as we were walking through the eerie, mysterious alleyway.

"I couldn't leave you here mate." I responded. "No telling what could have happened to you."

We continued on our way, while running into some dodgy looking people and seeing some very strange things until we heard the booming voice of a familiar friend.

"Harry, Y/N?" What d'yeh think yer doing down here?" The familiar voice of Hagrid filling our ears.

"Hagrid!" Harry exclaimed in relief. "We got lost-Floo powder."

"Yer a mess!" Hagrid said harshly. "Skulkin' around Knockturn Alley, I dunno dodgy place—- don' want no one ter see yeh two down there—-

"We realized Hagrid." I said. "We told you we were lost."

"What are you doing down here anyway?" Asked Harry.

"I was looking fer a Flesh Eatin' Slug Repellent." Hagrid growled. "They're ruinin' the schools cabbages. Yet not on yer own?"

"We're staying with The Weasleys but we got separated." I said.

We continued to walk along the path until we hit what looked like the Main Street. Hagrid was talking to Harry about the Dursley's and what happened with Dobby.

"Y/N!! Harry!"

All of a sudden, I was squeezed in a tight embrace by a familiar face with bushy brown hair and an adorable smile. It was Hermione.

I hugged her back just as tight. After a few minutes we separated and looked at each other. It was then when I realized she was still wearing the bracket I gave her for her birthday last year. It looked like it was hardly taken off.

"It's so good to see you, Hermione." I said.

"It's good to see you too, Y/N." She said with an adorable smile.

She went and gave Harry a hug as well. She let go and saw that his glasses were in a right state. She pulled out her wand and performed the same spell she used when we first met on the train.

We eventually managed to track down the Weasleys and decided to meet back up at Flourish and Blotts to pick up our books. I managed to run into my Uncle near Gringotts so we went down together and withdrew the money that I required.

I headed off with Hermione while Harry, Ron, and the twins ended up doing their own thing. I ended up buying us two large strawberry ice creams, as we walked down the alleyway, talking about our summers and peaking into the fascinating shop windows.

We eventually saw Ron gazing in the window of Quality Quidditch Supplies. He happened to be staring at a set of Quidditch robes along with the set of Nimbus 2000s. I managed to get one for my birthday this year so I can try out for the team.

Hermione then dragged us off to buy some ink and parchment in the shop next door. Which was nice because I was running out of both.

We met the twins and Harry at the nearby Joke Shop where Fred and George were loading up with No Heat Fireworks, Dr. Filibusters Fabulous Wet-Start, and in a tiny junk shop full of broken wands, lopsided brass scales, and old cloaks covered in potion stains we found Percy, who was plunging deep into a small book called "Prefects Who Gained Power."

Fascinating.

We then made our way down to Flourish and Blotts, which so happens to be my favorite store in Diagon Alley. It's those damn books I'm telling you.

We met up with the rest of the Weasley family as well as Hermione's parents so we could get our books, something I was very excited to do. Well, that is until I saw the sign on the door.

GILDEROY LOCKHART

will be signing copies of his autobiography

MAGICAL ME

Today from 12:30 to 4:30 pm

"Oh for the love of God"

————————————

We all stood at the entrance in front of the store. A line of women were waiting to get their books signed by Lockhart. I always thought the man was a fraud, a liar, and a bunch of other things that I should probably not say. I don't understand why people idolize him so much.

"We can actually meet him!" Hermione squealed. "I mean he's written almost the whole booklist!"

A/N: Yes Hermione will gush over Lockhart in this but don't worry, it's only going to make Lockhart bashing more fun.

"You know the man is a complete fraud right? His books are absolute garbage." I said.

"Don't be ridiculous Y/N." She said waving me off. She was obviously too interested and focusing on Lockhart. I didn't say anything else, there was an odd feeling in my stomach as I watched her eye the man. I chose to ignore these feelings.

The large crowd consisted of many middle aged witches that were around the same age as Mrs. Weasley. All of them were squealing like a bunch of schoolgirls waiting to see Lockhart.

There was even a huge line going all the way to the back of the shop. Mostly made of witches around Mrs. Weasley's age. Unfortunately, we decided to get a better view of it while also grabbing a copy of The Standard Book of Spells, Grade 2. We snuck up to the front of the line where Uncle Thomas, the rest of the Weasleys, and Hermione's parents were standing.

"Oh there you are, good." Mrs Weasley said. "We'll be able to see him in a minute."

"I've only seen him for a few seconds and I want to leave." I said walking towards the door.

"I'm with you." My Uncle said. Clearly, he was also not the biggest fan of Lockhart.

Hermione yanked me hard by the arm and brought me back towards the line.

"You haven't even met him yet, how could you judge so easily?" She asked.

"How do you know that the things he says in his books are real?" I retorted. "What proof is there that he actually does those things."

To my surprise, I noticed a confused expression, almost like doubt?

Before we could continue this conversation, a photographer came out and began clicking away, taking photos of Lockhart.

"Out of the way there." He snarled at Ron. "This is for the daily prophet."

"Big deal." Ron said while running his foot.

Lockhart managed to spot Harry in the crowd and jumped out of his seat.

"It can't be Harry Potter?"

Lockhart brought an uncomfortable Harry up to where he was before. Poor kid, he always attracts unwanted attention just because of his childhood.

"When young Harry here stepped into Flourish and Blotts today to purchase my autobiography, Magical Me..."

I'm sure he was doing anything other than that.

"Which, incidentally is celebrating its 27th week atop the Daily Prophet bestseller list, he had no idea that he would, in fact, be leaving...with my entire collected works, free of charge. Now ladies?"

Many women began clapping and cheering for the both of them. Including Hermione, she was looking rather flustered at the sight of Lockhart and I couldn't help but feel jealous.

But why? There's no reason to be jealous.

"But he and his friends had no idea they would shortly be getting much, much more than my book, Magical Me. They and their school friends will, in fact, be getting the real, magical me."

Please don't say what I think your going to say.

"Yes ladies and gentlemen, I have great pleasure and pride in announcing that, this September, I will be taking up the post of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!"

Jesus Christ. This can't be happening. I really just jinxed all of us.

Many people including Hermione cheered at this revelation, while the rest were disgusted at the news.

As Harry received his books, Mrs. Weasley took them. "I'll get them signed. All of you wait outside."

"You could also just throw them in the trash." I suggested, receiving the glare of a lifetime from Hermione.

We made our way towards the exit. I can't believe that idiot is going to be our teacher.

Speaking of idiots, a certain self centered bastard decided to make his presence known.

"I'll bet you loved that didn't you Potter?" Draco Malfoy sneered as he walked down the staircase. "Famous Harry Potter! Can't even go into a bookshop without making the front page."

A/N: I can't wait to write the mud blood chapter. Hands will be thrown.

"Oh look Draco Malfoy." I said amusingly. "Can't even go one second without being an annoying little b*tch."

Hermione walked up next to me and held my hand.

"Leave him alone." Ginny said as she walked up, not breaking eye contact with Draco.

"Oh look, Potter, L/N." He said while looking at us. "You've got yourselves girlfriends."

I began to blush furiously and I saw that Hermione was doing the same.

"Now, now Draco. Play nicely." A man with long blonde hair came onto the scene. "Mr. Potter...Lucius Malfoy. We finally meet at last. Forgive me, your scar is legend and of course is the wizard who gave you it."

"Voldemort murdered my parents." Harry responded angrily. "He was nothing more than a murderer."

"Hmm. You must be very brave, to mention his name...or very foolish."

"Fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself." Hermione stated.

"And you must be.....Miss Granger." Mr Malfoy said. He came closer as I continued to hold Hermione's hand protectively. "Yes Draco's told me all about you, and your parents. Muggles aren't they?"

"Did your son also tell you that he was bested by a muggle born?" I asked. "Bet that really pissed you off."

Mr. Malfoy turned and faced me as I felt Hermione tugging on my sleeve.

"Ah, you must be L/N, I've heard many things about you from Draco, not fortunate things however." He hissed.

"Oh really?" I asked. "Well I don't expect a whole lot from your bastard son."

"Listen here you little brat." He said picking me up by the collar scaring everyone. "Unless you want to meet a similar end like your parents, you will learn to keep your mouth shut."

"Is that a threat?" I asked.

"Malfoy, I suggest you get your damn hands off my nephew before I do something drastic."

Everyone turned around to see the face of my very pissed off uncle, wand at his side.

"Thomas." Mr. Malfoy sneered while putting me back on the ground.

"Children! It's too crowded in here, let's go outside." Mr. Weasley came up to us making his presence known.

"Well, well, well—Arthur Weasley." Mr Malfoy sneered in the same way.

"Lucius," said Mr. Weasley, nodding coldly. The venom laced in his words clearly noticed.

"Busy time at the Ministry, Arthur all those extra raids? I do hope they're not paying you overtime, but judging by the state of this, I'd say not. What's the use in being a disgrace to the name of wizard if they don't pay you well for it."

He then reached into Ginnys cauldron and extracted a very old, and battered copy of A Beginners Guide To Transfiguration.

"We have a very different idea about what disgraces the name of wizards, Malfoy." Uncle Thomas responded.

Ignoring him, Lucius continued while straying his eyes over to Mr. and Mrs. Granger, who were looking very nervous. "The company you keep Weasley, associating yourself with muggles...and I thought your family could sink no lower."

Not only was I furious about him saying that about Hermione and her parents, but my Uncle is a muggle born as well.

"Muggle borns have a right to be with us." I said fuming. "So shut your god damn mouth before you say another bad thing about muggles."

Lucius's smirk dropped instantly and turned into a glare. Hermiones grip on my hand was getting tighter. "It seems your little pet needs to learn how to keep his mouth shut Thomas."

"Careful Lucius." My Uncle responded. "He bites."

Mr. Malfoy then took ahold of Draco's shoulder and led him outside before the situation could escalate even further.

As we all exited the bookstore, Hermione brought me in for a bear hug and placed her head under mine.

"Thank you for defending me Y/N." She said. "But that was still very reckless, you could have gotten into serious trouble."

"Don't worry Mione." I said "I can handle him."

We spent the rest of our time walking around Diagon Alley. We popped into the Quidditch supplies store and looked around for a bit. Without her knowing, I also managed to buy Hermione's birthday present.

After a long day, I said goodbye to Hermione and her parents, as well as my Uncle, and went back to the burrow.
