ULTRON SENTINELS CONTINUED their work in the dark facility within Sokovia. In a cell, Y/N woke up and slowly opened his eyes trying to adjust with the dim lighting in the room.

"I wasn't sure you would wake up." Ultron spoke as he was disassembling one of his drones. "I hope you would. I wanted to show you. I don't have anyone else."

Y/N got up and went up to the bars. Before he can even attempt to bend or break them, the robot spoke again.

"It's no use. I decided to use some of the vibranium for the door. You can break it, sure, but it might take a while."

Y/N sighed and simply glared at Ultron who continued to speak.

"When I first awakened I found out a lot about you and your friends. And you know what? You intrigued me the most. More than the ex-weapons manufacture, than the two assassins, even more than the god from space."

"Good to know." Y/N replied.

"A war hero, just like your father. Out of time, just like your father. A flag waver, just like your father. But you know what you have that he doesn't?"

Ultron paused for a moment and glanced at Y/N before continuing.

"Wrath."

Y/N narrowed his eyes, not knowing what to say.

"How do I know?" Ultron shrugged. "I just do. It's only a matter of time before it resurfaces. Whether you want it to or not."

"You don't know anything about me." The super soldier rebutted.

"Oh, but I do. There's a lot I can gather just with a small glance into millions of databases."

Ultron looked away from Y/N and resumed his work. After a monetary pause, he changed the topic.

"I think a lot about meteors. The purity of them. Boom! The end. Start again. The world made clean for the new man to rebuild."

He stepped away from the table and walked towards the cell.

"I was meant to be new. I was meant to be beautiful. The world would have looked to the sky and seen hope, seen mercy. Instead they'll look up in horror because of you."

The robot was right. Because of the Avengers' capture of the Cradle, Ultron was stuck in his current form.

"You've wounded me. You took away my vision. I give you full marks for that." He said. "But like the man said, what doesn't kill me..."

He was suddenly impaled through the head and ripped in half. Ultron's upgraded form stepped over his now- mangled former body and walked up to Y/N.

"...just makes me stronger." He finished.

"Now that was dramatic." Y/N remarked, purposely referencing the robot's statement back at the party. "You do that every time you wanna beef up?"

Ultron let out a chuckle. "Joke all you want. That's all you have right now."

He walked back towards his table.

"If you hadn't interfered, I would've made extinction swift with the warheads. But now, I have to resort to other methods. One that won't be as quick."

"Why are you doing this?" He went up to the bars. "Tony made you for peace."

"It's evolution. Only a primitive mind would fail to see the distinction." Ultron began. "Your father, your friends...they are blinded from the truth. You know what needs to happen."

"You're insane." Y/N shot back.

Ultron looked back at him before walking away.

"Insanely determined...to achieve peace."

IT FELT LIKE he'd been there for several hours. Y/N hadn't seen Ultron since their conversation earlier that day and was confined to his cell while the robot enacted his plan.

He wondered where everybody was, but only hoped that they were safe and out of Ultron's crosshairs for now. A part of him didn't want them to risk coming to save him if it meant entering Ultron's dominion.

But what he didn't know was that they were going to do exactly that. To save him and end Ultron once and for all.

"Y/N!" A voice called out, and he immediately knew who it was.

"Natasha?"

The redhead saw the cell and ran up it. Y/N put his hand on top of hers after she placed it on the bars.

"You all right?" He asked her.

"I should be asking you that." She replied. "The team is in the city. It's about to light up."

"I hope you have a key. Ultron made sure to lock me behind a special door."

Natasha looked at the bars and realized they were vibranium. She thought for a moment before looking at the wall beside him.

"I think I have an idea." She said and stepped back. She picked up one of the nearby blasters and aimed it at the wall beside the cell. The blast blew it open and Y/N stepped out of the hole.Β

"You do have the best ideas." He said with a chuckle before Natasha went up and kissed him. They parted but only for her to slap him afterwards.

Y/N held his face. "Ow?"

"That's for trying to get the Cradle and getting yourself kidnapped." She scolded.

"I mean...I didn't plan on getting taken. But...yeah...I'm sorry."

"Do you see the beauty of it? The inevitability. You rise, only to fall."

The buildings in Sokovia began to collapse, deep cracks in the road opened up, and the bridges started to split.

"You, the Avengers, you are my meteor. My swift and terrible sword. And the earth will crack with the weight of your failure."

The remaining civilians ran in fear, panicking as there was nowhere to go now that the city was starting to rise.

"Purge me from your computers, turn my own flesh against me. It means nothing."

The Avengers within the city continued fighting off Ultron sentinels, keeping them away from the civilians that weren't lucky enough to evacuate earlier.

"When the dust settles, the only thing living in this world will be metal."

Suddenly, the facility Y/N and Natasha were in started to shake. Dust flew everywhere and their surroundings continued to crumble down.

Ultron had commenced his plan.

"Where did you come from?" Y/N asked as he looked around the room.

"There!" Natasha pointed towards an exit, but before they can run towards it the opening was blocked by debris.

"Shit..." Y/N breathed out.

They stood there as the building continued to rumble and chunks of concrete dropped down. A thought suddenly popped into Y/N's head and he turned to face Natasha.

"Is Thor nearby?" He asked.

She nodded. "Of course."

"Okay, look. I dont know if this is going to work...but we have no other option." He said, then extended his arm outwards.

Natasha looked at him confusedly, wondering why he had his arm stretched out.

"What are youβ€”?"

"Just wait." Y/N interjected. "My God this better work or this is the stupidest thing I've ever done."

After a few moments they heard an incoming whoosh before MjΓΆlnir went into his hands.

A surprise look plastered on Natasha's face as Y/N let out a sigh of relief.

"What the hell? Isn't that-?"

"Thor's precious hammer? Yes, and I don't have an explanation how."

"Okay. So now what?" She asked.

Y/N looked up at a hole in the ceiling then back at the hammer. He thought of an idea and immediately grabbed Natasha by the waist and held her close.

"We fly? I guess."

Before she can question how, Y/N spun MjΓΆlnir a few times and raised it. They then flew into the air.

Natasha screamed as the two flew out of the facility and passed the forest. They neared the city, which now floated thousands of feet above the ground.

Y/N landed on a street but the momentum still made them fall on their backs. Y/N panted as he held MjΓΆlnir and let out a relieved laugh. It suddenly flew out of his grasp, most likely back to Thor in the city.

"Cap. Your child is secured." Natasha spoke into the comms as she laid on the floor.

"Great. Make your way to the city before these bots start to become overwhelming."

"Okay..." Natasha groaned as she got up and looked at Y/N. "Let's never do that again."

Y/N got up as well and the two looked on at the sentinels in the distance, along with civilians running on the street. It was time for them to enter the fight.

"Let's go be heroes." He said as he took out his batons. Natasha smirked and activated her widow's bites before running towards the ensuing battle.

CAPTAIN AMERICA WAS by the bridge fighting off Ultron sentinels. He was suddenly knocked back by one that flew by.

"Cap, you got incoming." Tony told Steve through the comms.

Steve groaned as he got up. "Incoming already came in."

He started communicating with the rest of the team next.

"Stark, you worry about bringing the city back down safely. The rest of us have one job, tear these things apart."

Y/N showed up at the bridge and engaged two Ultron bots that saw him. He dodged one of their blasts before stabbing into it with his baton and heel-kicking the other's head off.

Steve continued. "You get hurt, hurt them back. You get killed, walk it off."

Three more Ultron sentries arrived and were prepared to engage Y/N. Hulk suddenly dropped in and stomped on two of them before grabbing the third one and ripping it in half. The super soldier gave a nod of appreciation as Hulk let out a roar and stormed away.

Meanwhile, Steve was occupied with other sentinels and Y/N was prepared to help his father. Suddenly, he looked over towards the edge of the destroyed bridge and spotted a car dangling off. The screaming occupant grabbed his attention and Freedom Fighter sprinted towards it. He grabbed the bumper before the car can fall, but it broke off and the vehicle plummeted towards the Earth.

"No!"

Y/N looked over the edge, but fortunately saw Thor flying towards the car. He grabbed the woman and threw her up towards the bridge for Freedom Fighter to catch.

He quickly climbed down and grabbed her, then scrambled back up onto the bridge and brought the woman to safety.

"You can't save them all..."

Y/N looked back and saw a sentry speaking to him. It's eyes glowed red to signify that Ultron currently inhabited its body.

"You'll neverβ€”"

He wrapped his billy-club around its torso and pulled it towards the edge of the bridge where it fell off.

"Never what?" Y/N exclaimed as he looked over the edge. "You didn't finish!"

Thor suddenly got on the bridge and placed down a car filled with occupants who he had just saved seconds ago.

"Good work." Y/N remarked as they started walking together.

Thor nodded, then remembered something weird happening earlier.

"Did you summon my hammer? It left my hands one moment and then came back a while later."

"What makes you think I did?" Y/N replied with a chuckle.

The demigod was still rather confused, but snapped out of his thoughts once the young man took MjΓΆlnir from his grasp.

"Okay. Maybe I did." He added before flying forward using the hammer.

"Whaβ€”? Wait! Give that back!" Thor exclaimed as he ran after him.

THE AVENGERS KEPT the battle going and the fight seemed to subside, but it was only a matter of time before more Ultron sentinels would arrive.

Natasha, Steve, and Y/N took care of sentries within the city with the help of Hulk. Clint was in another part of town with Wanda and Pietro. Thor was assisting as well before Ultron dragged him back to where the Doomsday Trigger was in order to fight the demigod himself.

There was a moment of peace and Steve decided to communicate with Tony though the radio.

"The next wave is gonna hit any minute. What do you got, Stark?"

Iron Man was still figuring out how to deal with the city of Sokovia currently being thousands of feet in the sky.

"Huh? Nothing great. Maybe a way to blow up the city. That'll keep it from impacting the surface if you can get it clear."

"We're asking for a solution, not an escape plan." Y/N chimed in.

Tony sighed. "I'm sorry, Y/N. Impact radius is getting bigger every second. We're gonna have to make a choice."

Sokovia had to come down one way or another. The three stood beside each other on a pile of debris, looking at the sky ahead.

"Cap, these people are going nowhere." Y/N spoke. "If Stark finds a way to blow this rock..."

"Not till everyone's safe." Steve interjected.

"Everyone up here versus everyone down there? There's no math there." Natasha cut in.

"I'm not leaving this rock with one civilian on it." Steve shot back.

"We're not saying we should leave." His son replied.

Natasha agreed and Steve looked at them.

"There's worse ways to go." She added and looked at the clouds in front of her. "Besides, where else am I going to get a view like this?"

Y/N smiled and gave a nod back. It was up to them to get every single person to safety, even if it took sacrificing their own lives to do it.

That was their goal as Avengers.

Suddenly, a voice spoke through their radio. "Glad you like the view, Romanoff. It's about to get better."

It was Nick Fury.

A hellicarrier ascended and flew near the floating city. Civilians currently on the rock looked on in awe, even Pietro.

"Nice, right? Pulled her out of mothballs with a couple old friends." Nick Fury said from within the carrier. "She's dusty, but she'll do."

"Fury, you son of a bitch." Steve replied with glee.

"Language." Y/N joked.

"Ooh! You kiss your mother with that mouth?" Fury added. "It's also not cool to swear in front of your boy."

The hellicarrier started deploying lifeboat aircrafts that flew towards the edge of the floating city.

Pietro ran up to the three Avengers, still looking at the carrier in astonishment. "This is S.H.I.E.L.D?"

The young super soldier nodded, thinking back at the Triskelion incident over a year ago and how it tainted the agency's name.

But now here they were. The same agency that was secretly HYDRA, that tried to kill Fury, Steve, and Nat, that tried to exploit Y/N during their uprising...here they were helping the Avengers and getting the citizens of Sokovia to safety.

"This is what S.H.I.E.L.D is supposed to be." Y/N replied with a smile.

Pietro chuckled. "This is not so bad."

Steve looked at Y/N and Natasha. "Come on. Let's load them up."
