7 - π˜–π˜― π˜”π˜Ί π˜”π˜ͺ𝘯π˜₯

HAILEE STIRRED AWAKE, blinking in the sunlight that was gleaming through the slivers of the curtains. She rolled over and groaned after feeling the headache almost instantly. For a second, she thought she was in her own room...but quickly realized she wasn't.

Where the hell am I? She thought.

The girl sat up and looked around, surveying the rather plain room she was in. The only thing that stood out was a couple of musical instruments in the corner. One was a red-white guitar that caught her eye...and at that moment she knew who it was and where she could be. It was Y/N's.

The oversized shirt she was wearing should've given it away too, but she barely noticed her wardrobe. That along with the pajama pants she had. Her own clothes were on the dresser nearby neatly folded.

She tried thinking back to the night before. Flashes of what she thought was a dream filled her mind. Kissing someone...professing what she felt...it all seemed so vivid. She's had those dreams before about a specific someone...and assumed that was what she went through.

Another dream.

Hailee got out of bed and stumbled a bit, still a little groggy from her hangover. She rubbed her eyes and started making her way to the bathroom.

After freshening up as much as she could, the nineteen-year-old left the guest room and walked down the corridor. She made it to the living area and looked into the adjoined kitchen. There, she saw Y/N sitting beside the island.

The young man put a spoonful of cereal into his mouth right when he noticed her. He quickly chewed to greet her without a mouthful of Cheerios. He stood up from the stool.

"Good morning, sleepy head." He finally said.

Hailee's eyes were squinting from the amount of natural light that entered the room through the condo's windows. Still, she could see Y/N standing tall and with a smile.

He wore a tight sleeveless compression shirt that flaunted his abdominal muscles. The top went along with some shorts too. Hailee had her eyes on him for a moment...wondering if she was still dreaming.

Thank you, Under Armor, she thought.

"Haiz?" He called out again.

"Uh...yeah. Y--Yeah, good morning." She rubbed her eyes and snapped out of her trance. "Just woke up so you know my mind's all pfft."

"I...have some cereal if you're hungry." He lifted the box and shook it. "In fact, I'll serve you."

Y/N went over to the cabinets and took out a bowl. He took out the milk from the fridge and walked back to the island, placing both items on the surface and beginning to serve the cereal.

"Wow, thank you, Chef Ramsay." Hailee joked as she walked up to the counter.

Y/N laughed and slid the cereal bowl toward her. She took the spoon and mixed it around.

"Come on, you've known me long enough to understand that I cannot cook for shit." He replied.

"Yes, I know." She said.

He leaned over the table. "Kobe talked to me about getting a personal chef. One that can maybe come over and cook or deliver prepped meals here. That might be something I have to invest in."

The girl ate a couple of spoonfuls of cereal as he was speaking.

"That sounds all right." She replied. "They'll cater to you and your needs instead of relying on...cereal or ordering takeout."

Y/N noticed her emphasis on the last word and took it as a slight toward him. He chuckled.

"I do not order takeout all the time. Or any other fast food." He rubbed the back of his neck. "I quit that habit after having that bad game after eating Burger King."

"Good choice." She moved her spoon in his direction. "Gotta keep the physique."

"Yeah. Iβ€”I...uh, really worked hard for it."

She nodded. "I know you did."

There was a few seconds of silence after that. Y/N didn't know what else to say until Hailee broke the silence.

"How'd I end up here?" She asked. "All I remember from last night is telling my parents I'd see them at home. Seems like I didn't."

Y/N picked up his empty bowl and walked toward the sink.

"Well...a certain someone had a little too much to drink."

Hailee reacted by letting out a sigh and palming her head.

"That explains the headache. I was just about to mention it. So I was drunk."

"It was pretty funny, not gonna lie." Y/N remarked.

"Why? What happened?" She with a soft chuckle.

"Well, you kept calling Donovan, Donny, and once everyone left...you thought they were hiding. You asked if you could teleport to Paris."

Hailee laughed...but stopped after thinking. She recalled those memories from her supposed dream that she had. Further thought made her remember that Y/N was in them.

Y/N continued as he finished washing his bowl.

"I asked if you wanted to go home but you said no. So...I let you use the guest room to sleep."

"Whaβ€”what else happened?" She asked as she stared at him.

Y/N arched a brow at her sudden question. The man dried his hands and leaned against the counter.

"What do you mean? You went to sleep."

Hailee needed to know if what happened in her dream actually happened in reality.

"When you took me to the room...did something happen?"

The young man was starting to get timid from the questioning, not wanting to reveal what actually transpired. Y/N kept a straight face.

"No. I gave clothes for you to sleep in. You went to sleep."

There was a pause in their conversation for a few seconds. Hailee kept looking at her friend...studying him. She knew he wasn't truthful.

"Y/N...we both know each other more than we know ourselves. Don't lie to me..."

Her tone is what broke him. Now, he couldn't lie. It was as if she knew already. Y/N looked down for a moment and got off the counter.

"You kissed me." He finally admitted. "You kept wanting to but..."

Hailee closed her eyes and covered her face with her hands. She let out a quiet exhale as Y/N watched her reaction.

"Did I...did I say anything?" She asked after putting her hands down.

Y/N moved his eyes from the floor to her face. "If you remember the kiss...then I think you remember what you said too."

She did. Hailee professed her love to him...all in a drunken state. The girl closed her eyes again and dropped her head, embarrassed. She let out a groan of annoyance...annoyed at herself.

"Hey...hey. It's fine." Y/N reassured her.

"This is so embarrassing!" She exclaimed.

"It's okay. Don't blame yourself, blame the alcohol. You were drunk. I understand."

Y/N was so cool with it, Hailee couldn't believe it. But the whole situation was so embarrassing for her. She was ashamed of how she acted. Last night wasn't how she wanted to let him know how she felt...not while intoxicated. She couldn't fathom that he saw her like that. She couldn't fathom that was how their first kiss went...her drunk and him sober.

That was not how it was supposed to go. Hailee felt like vanishing at that moment. She was just so ashamed. So abashed that she reacted by doing what she felt was a good idea at the moment... an unthinkable idea.

"I'm so sorry...I'm so sorry you had to experience that." She began and finally let out a weak laugh. "That you had to hear those words, because...they're not true."

Y/N had seen many things crash and burn, mostly in action movies like Fast and the Furious. Even in a couple of Michael Bay flicks. That was what he was feeling at that moment. Internally, the crashing and burning were commencing.

"You know...I've never been drunk before, so that was a trip in itself." Hailee continued. "I guess that's the kind of drunk that I am. Just...throwing out shit that doesn't make sense."

Y/N was still silent. Hailee hated how quiet it was and broke it by adding one last tidbit.

"I wouldn't want you to think that...I'm sorry. You'reβ€”you're my best friend."

Hailee glanced at him, studying his body language and wondering what he was going to say. A part of her thought he was going to tell her that he had the same feelings too, which in that case, she would take back everything she just said and admit it too. But...that's not what he did.

"Right! You're right. That'd be crazy. Just thinking about it now..." Y/N shook his head and laughed.

The young man hid his heartbroken state with a chuckle, crossing his arms. Hailee masked her disappointment and nervousness with a laugh as well. Y/N cleared his throat and continued.

"I...I probably would've said some crazy things too if I would've kept drinking. Thank God I'm a lightweight."

They shared another laugh before falling into silence for a moment. Y/N walked up to the island and finally broke it.

"Uh...you...you okay with the cereal or do you want to order breakfast? There's this placeβ€”"

"No, no. It's okay." She quickly replied. "I...um...I should get going now. My parents are probably freaking out wondering where I am."

"You don't need to worry about that. I called and told them you were here."

"Oh, cool. Butβ€”but I should still go and see them." Hailee said and got off the stool, leaving her half-eaten cereal. "I'm gonna change."

Y/N watched as she went back to the guest room. He stood there in his thoughts for a bit until Hailee came back out, now in her clothes from last night.

"I left the pajamas on the bed. Thank you for them by the way." She said.

"Yβ€”yeah. No problem." He replied.

She held her purse and had her phone in hand. She glanced at the screen and opened the door.

"We'll talk later?" Y/N asked her.

She looked and feigned a smile, the girl still embarrassed and feeling rather awkward from the whole situation.

"Yeah."

Y/N simply nodded. Hailee nodded back before leaving the condo and closing the door.

He walked back to the island. He kicked up Hailee's bowl and placed it in the sink. Y/N stood there for a moment before looking down, palming his face, and letting out a sigh.

Outside, Hailee stood in the hallway and covered her face too. She couldn't believe what happened and how she denied the things she told him last night. Hailee felt like crying, but held it in and continued down the hallway.

Later that week, Y/N was in his room. In the corner of the rather large abode was a recording setup where he produced music.

He had been writing lyrics for a song he was thinking of. Of course, the experience with Hailee days ago inspired it. He just couldn't get his mind off it. And to deal with the heartbreak...music was his outlet.

Y/N kept jotting words down in his journal. What he didn't know was that miles away...a certain someone was doing the same thing.

Meanwhile, Hailee was in her room. In a notebook, the girl was also writing down lyrics for a possible song. She thought of Y/N...recalling the memories of that night. The scents she remembered...how she felt...the taste of him. Although she was drunk at that time...those senses were all so vivid to her.

Hailee stopped writing for a moment, closing her eyes and leaning her head against the headboard of the bed. She blew the strand of hair off her face, then after a moment of looking up at the ceiling...she continued writing.

Y/N WAS CURRENTLY on a tear. Although the Lakers were currently 10-13 as of the second week of December, his averages were great, having 23.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game to go along with shooting splits of 49/40/89 (this is pretty good btw).

Only thing that bothered Y/N was that most of the time it wasn't amounting to wins. His goal was to make the playoffs...or at the very least crack over the 17 wins they had last year. He knew that would happen though.

Their Tuesday game was against their city rival the Los Angeles Clippers. They were currently 17-7 and were bound to keep doing great. Y/N wanted to make a statement and lead his team to a win that night.

It was an "away" game and the court was decorated for the Clippers despite being the same floor the Lakers played on. Their starting five were Chris Paul, JJ Redick, Paul Pierce, Luc Mbah A Moute, and DeAndre Jordan. Their other superstar, Blake Griffin, was out with an injury.

On the Laker's side, their five were Y/N, Nick Young, Luol Deng, Julius Randle, and Timofey Mozgov.

The game started and Y/N had to defend Chris Paul. He was one of the league's best guards and was known for his craftiness with the ball. Although Y/N was a few inches taller than him it wouldn't compare to his experience...and he'd find that out soon enough.

It went back and forth for the first few minutes, but things started going the Clippers' way and the first quarter ended with the Lakers being down 17-26. D'Andre Jordan had eight points and five rebounds already while Chris Paul had 10 points. That was bad news as it showed that the guard was already comfortable.

The second quarter started and the game continued. Y/N, who was having a pretty mediocre game so far, kept trying to guard Paul while they were on defense.

A Clippers player missed the shot and Y/N got the rebound. He dribbled the ball up the court and got in front of Paul. He was going to drive passed him, but the point guard quickly extended his arm and swiped the ball away.

Y/N didn't react fast enough as Chris got the steal and quickly ran to the other hoop. The Clippers fans in the arena cheered as he scored the layup.

For the next few possessions, Clarkson ended up handling the ball. He scored a couple of times but it wasn't enough as the Clippers would always respond with their own points. On one possession, Y/N got in front of Chris Paul and guarded him as he held the ball.

The point guard dribbled and crossed it between his legs. With one quick move, he acted when his opponent least expected it and nutmeg'd Y/N.

He retrieved the ball and scored the layup, garnering cheers and awes from the crowd. Before Chris Paul ran back on defense he taunted Y/N.

"Try getting in the gym instead of the studio next time, youngblood."

Paul snickered and joined his team back on the other side of the court. Brandon Ingram, who was inbound the ball to Y/N, saw that he lowered his head and ran ahead. Clarkson noticed this and called for the ball instead.

Y/N wanted to prove Paul wrong, but as he would soon see...it wasn't his night. He would shoot but it wouldn't go in. He tried his best on defense and Chris would always want to go at Y/N. It gave the small guard plenty of opportunities to beat the young man and show off to his fans.

Before they knew it, the game was over. The Clippers won 113-97 and Chris Paul finished with 31 points and 11 assists. Y/N scored 10 points on pretty bad efficiency...that being 4 out of 21 with a couple of free throws added in.

Y/N was down and didn't say a word as he walked back to the locker room with his teammate. Ingram gave him a reassuring pat on the head which the man appreciated.

THE NEXT MORNING, the sports media spoke about the games that transpired last night. Skip Bayless had moved on from First Take with Stephen A Smith on ESPN and moved to Fox to have his own show with NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe called Undisputed.

One of their topics was the Lakers vs Clippers game last night. For their guest, Skip gladly invited reporter Wilson Wittman. Their segment was about Y/N with the title Lights Too Bright?

"I think we've seen what happens when L/N faces a guard with the pedigree of Paul's." Shannon added to their already going conversation.

"No, no, no." Skip butted. "This was just one game. An outlier to the many other games he's showed out."

"Skip! Have you seen their schedule? None of his matchups until now have been as good as CP3."

"They're professionals aren't they?" He tapped the papers on his table. "And look at what he was doing the last couple of weeks."

"He's just gotta respond to this mediocre performance. It was kinda embarrassing. You see what Paul did?" Shannon looked at Wilson. "Did you?"

He shrugged. "Yeah, that nutmeg was pretty crazy. Obviously, the Clippers fans loved it...not so much the Lakers."

"You know..." Skip began. "He sorta bad-mouthed him. You hear that on the broadcast?"

Shannon nodded. Skip continued.

"Get in the gym instead of the studio."

"Yeah, not sure he liked that very much." Wilson replied.

"I would not allow that. Nope." Skip said.

"Can he respond to this?" Shannon asked, more directly to Wilson.

He nonchalantly picked up his papers from the table and let out a sigh.

"Well, I knew that would be question this segment. What was this titled? Lights too bright or something?"

They nodded. Wilson continued as he looked at his papers.

"October 30th against the Thunder. 12 points shooting 6 for 20. A loss. But what happened when they faced off again on November 22nd? 29 points shooting 4 for 7 from three. A win."

He added more. "November 6th. 9 points, oof, a loss to the Suns. They played against each other again on December 9th. How much did he have? 32 points to go with five steals. A win."

He put his papers flat on the table and dramatically pointed at it.

"Let's not forget last year too! First game against the Nets in November he had 11 points and they barely won. Then he plays them again in March and drops 39 points with 8 three-pointers! His best game yet! So, yes! Y/N can respond!"

Shannon simply nodded, not having a rebuttal to his evidence. Skip slightly grinned and tapped the stack of paper he had on the desk.

"Yes, he can. Y/N is a winner and as I've been saying...he has the potential to be as great of a player and icon as Kobe Bryant."

"As good as Michael Jordan, Skip?" Shannon asked with a chuckle.

"Oh, no. Let's stop there. Not that far."

"As good as LeBron?"

Skip, the notorious LeBron hater, nodded. "Oh, yeah. Of course. It won't be long."

Shannon was baffled. "Skip!"

"In the next seven years, I guarantee that Y/N will have as much or more championship rings than LeBron James."

"Can you believe this guy?" Shannon asked Wilson.

He chuckled and shrugged. "I guess we'll see."

THE NBA ON Christmas Day was a pretty well-known event around the country. The viewership during that day was always huge which is why the league always had big market teams and superstar names compete on that day.

In LA, the matchup for the holiday was Clippers vs Lakers again. This time it was a home game for the Lakers, so their court and arena were decorated to be in their team style.

Throughout the day leading to the game, Y/N was in his own world. Yes, he'd been called by his family and friends and told Merry Christmas and to have a good game, but that was about it. He was mostly in the facility getting ready for the nationally televised match.

Once the time arrived, Y/N was ready. He had that look Kobe would always have when he was serious about a specific game...one of murderous intent as if he was going to eat someone alive.

The announcers named the players and the lineups before starting the game. Their lineups were mostly the same as their previous matchup as Blake Griffin was still injured for the Clippers. For the Lakers, Ingram replaced Luol Deng.

The game began and the Lakers won the tip-off for the ball. Immediately, Y/N called for the ball and dribbled up the court. He expected Chris Paul to guard him right away, but JJ Redick went on him instead. Y/N saw the rather short guard as an easy matchup.

He crossed him over and drove passed him, laying it up before DeAndre Jordan can block him. The crowd cheered as the Lakers went back on defense.

"L/N with the first points of the night!"

Clippers scored in the next possession, in which Y/N scolded Nick Young for letting them get passed him. Young respected the hooper and his sense of leadership, so he took the criticism.

Y/N responded to the Clippers' points with another few of his own, scoring a three over Redick. The crowd sounded again.

"L/N from three!"

"He might start heating up if they don't do something about it."

The Clippers tried doing what they can, but it didn't seem to work. By the time the fourth quarter was concluding, Y/N had 38 points. He was surely making up for the abysmal game he had against them a couple of weeks ago.

The score was in favor of the Lakers as they were up 108-102. With 52 seconds left in the clock, they had the ball and were looking to score one more time to officially put the Clippers out of reach.

They passed the ball around and dribbled until it reached Y/N again. This time, Chris Paul was on him. The guard hovered his hand over Y/N's face and tried defending him. But that wasn't going to deter him.

Y/N dribbled in front of Paul and crossed it through his legs. He tried to keep up with him and did pretty well as Paul was an above-average defender. Despite that, Y/N stepped back and shot a three over Chris.

It went in and the crowd erupted. The Clippers called their final timeout and Y/N did his signature bow and arrow gesture as he stood in place.

Ingram and Clarkson ran up to Y/N and hyped up their friend. The announcers reacted to the previous play.

"The dagger! L/N's three is good and he has 41 points!"

"That marks a career-high for him."

Once the timeout finished the Clippers joined their opponent back on the floor. They tried responding with 31 seconds they had left but couldn't. The Lakers got the ball with about 8 seconds left and let the clock run out. The buzzer sounded and signaled the end of the game.

"And there you have it. The Lakers snap their 11-game-skid and defeat the Clippers on Christmas Day!"

"All thanks to an excellent performance by Y/N L/N. This could possibly be recognized as one of the greatest Christmas Day performances we've ever seen."

Y/N celebrated with his teammates as they walked back to their bench. He dapped up Brandon Ingram and embraced him, the taller man patting his back.

"That was ice-cold shit, OG." He remarked on the shot over Chris Paul.

All Y/N did was smirk. As they walked back toward the locker room Y/N looked ahead at a specific seating area. There, he saw his family and friends...which he barely realized were there.

Y/M/N was applauding along with Donovan, Zendaya, and Tom Holland. The latter was Zendaya's friend and co-star in the upcoming Spider-Man movie and has been acquainted with Y/N before. Donovan has also gotten to know him because of their love for the comic book hero.

But there was one person he didn't see, which didn't surprise him at the time. Their relationship had been rather rocky and awkward for the last few months...only having spoken with each other via text here and there.

Hailee.

The man let out an exhale through his nose and followed his team to the locker room.

THE PARTY WAS something Y/N had to get used to. This was the first big one he's attended, hosted by a pretty prominent rapper at the time. He at least had D'Angelo there with him, but he'd often go off and converse with other people, leaving Y/N just wandering around.

After talking with someone, D'Angelo was walking back. Y/N had a drink in hand and watched as his friend was returning.

"Look who's back?" Y/N smirked.

He ignored his jest. "Come, I got someone you should talk to."

"Uh, I don't know. Who?"

"It shouldn't really matter, do you just wanna stand here like some tall ass stump in the middle of the room?"

"Dude, we're practically the same height."

D'Angelo shrugged. "I'm a few centimeters taller actually...but forget that. Come on."

Y/N gave in and followed his friend. They passed by a few groups until they met with three people standing by a table. It was two young women and a guy with long hair and a beard.

"Here he is." D'Angelo said.

"Hello, I'm Stephen Koz." He shook his hand. "Ah! You really are tall. Can't tell from the television."

Y/N chuckled. "Well...I do play ball."

"And you're great at that...but also music, right?"

"Yeah."

He gestured toward the two other girls. They smiled at him and Y/N beamed back.

"This is my friend, Dua Lipa, and her friend, Esme. Along with Meek Mill, I work with her."

Y/N's heard of Dua Lipa. She was an up-and-coming artist and had come to prominence in the last year.

"Pleasure to meet you two." Y/N smiled and shook their hands, but ended up giving a friendly hug too. He was just like that.

"Wow...you're quite a handsome guy." Esme complimented. "Not just handsome...hot!"

Dua nudged her friend and let out a chuckle. Y/N laughed as well.

"Thank you. It's nice knowing I'm easy on the eyes." He replied.

"Oh, you are."

Dua looked to her rather eager friend. This got another chuckle out of the hooper.

"Excuse my friend, she's just really into basketball players." Dua said.

"Again, it's fine." He replied.

"But like Koz said, I've seen you do music too. It's fascinating to know that you're tackling both sides of your life pretty well."

"They're both my passion. I love one as much as the other." He said. "And you're passionate too I suppose. Five songs released since 2015?"

She arched a brow and smirked. "You've heard of them?"

"Of course! New Love, I love the synth-pop aspect of it. It was a fantastic debut."

"Thank you." She said with a smile. "You know...I plan on releasing something in the coming months...how about we work together on it?"

Her offer was an intriguing one. The only other artists Y/N has collaborated with were SchoolBoy Q and Hailee. To be able to work with a rising star like Dua sounded awesome.

"That...sounds great!" He replied. "We exchanging numbers then?"

She chuckled. "Gladly."

They did just that. The group talked a bit more until the women and their friend decided to leave.

"Well, can't wait to kick off this partnership." Dua told him.

He nodded and smiled back. "The start of a great one."

They left the two hoopers at the table. D'Angelo nudged his arm and let out a chuckle, and Y/N knew what he was thinking.

With a smirk, Y/N lightly hit his friend on the shoulder. The two then moved away from the counter and continued with the party.

BY MID-JANUARY, Hailee has started filming for Pitch Perfect 3. Universal was eyeing a holiday release that year and wanted to hit the ground running.

In her trailer, the girl was relaxing after a day of production. The girl was in her journal brainstorming lyrics for possible songs for the coming year. Her songwriting hobby was always an outlet that made her happy...but recently, it seemed to make her quite upset.

Each word penned down meant something. Each one seemed directed at one thing...her feelings. And those feelings were for Y/N. She regretted how she acted that day at his condo when she lied about how she felt about him.

Day by day she thought about telling the truth, but it scared her.

What if he didn't feel the same way? You heard what he said, he thought the idea was crazy! He wouldn't like me. He believed me when I said it was all drunk talk. If he did feel the same...he would've told me.

Those were the thoughts she'd have. But now she was getting tired of them. Hailee didn't want to feel the burden of not being able to let him know how she really felt. She couldn't deny it anymore.

Hailee needed to be with Y/N.

She thought about calling him. For a second, she thought if she should find a way to fly from Atlanta to LA and maybe speak with him personally. Maybe she should fly out to the next place he was going to play at. Her mind was racing with ideas.

Hailee picked up her phone and unlocked it. Muscle memory was to always go on social media, so that is what she did.

Upon scrolling through trending news...she stumbled upon one post. One that made her jaw drop. One that seemed to shatter her whole world...
