THE STAGE WAS SET. It was opening night for the NBA and one of the nationally televised games was the season opener for the Los Angeles Lakers.

They were in the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. It was a sold out crowd and everyone buzzed in anticipation. While stands were mostly filled with red, white, and black...there was a hefty amount of fans who sported the purple and gold.

"Welcome to the NBA on TNT! We are live at the Moda Center where will we see the Lakers face off against the Blazers."

"A very anticipated game indeed, probably the one we've all been waiting for."

"Finally we will see the long-awaited debut of LeBron James in a Laker uniform."

Both teams were in the middle of the court for tip-off. The referee stood between JaVale McGee and Jusuf Nurkic and threw it up, where the latter won and tipped it to their point guard, Damian Lillard.

Rajon Rondo was on him for the possession. Y/N was close by stuck to CJ McCollum as he anticipated a pass to the star guard. Damian found no opening so he gave it to their forward, Al-Farouq Aminu.

He got passed Ingram but missed the layup. Damian quickly bolted to acquire the offensive rebound which he did. He immediately passed it to an open Aminu again at the three-point line. He shot it but missed. McGee grabbed the rebound and pushed it up the court.

There were a couple of possessions with no points scored until finally Rondo was able to put in a layup. They were back on the defensive but a quick pass from CJ to Nurkic allowed the latter to put in a two-pointer.

On the next turn, LeBron held the ball inside the three-point line and watched for movement. Aminu was closely guarding him.

Luckily, Y/N shook off CJ and cut to the basket. With swiftness, LeBron passed it to Y/N and the guard scored two quick points.

"LeBron with the vision!"

"Oh, man! The tandem of the King and the Prodigy will surely be a sight to see!"

Y/N nodded at LeBron as they went back on defense. A couple of empty possessions later, Ingram threw the ball to JaVale McGee. The lanky center drove passed the hefty Nurkic and posterized him.

"McGee with the stuff!"

"Got the slip on Nurkic!"

The next opportunity for the Blazers lead to a pass that was tipped by Y/N. It went out-of-bounds and the Blazers had another chance. Jake Layman inbounded the ball...but didn't expect the quick wit of LeBron.

James got in front of Aminu and caught the pass before he sprinted down the court. The Lakers fans in the arena sounded off as the superstar made his way to the basket.

"James with the slam!"

"The steal and the finish! James Worthy-esque Statue of Liberty dunk!"

The crowd was still roaring as the Lakers went back on defense and Lillard got the inbound. The team must've been sleeping or high at the moment since Damian was able to get passed Rondo and was rewarded with an open lane to the hoop.

"Lillard with the answer!"

Y/N quickly inbounded the ball to a running LeBron. The two stars knew the Trailblazers' defense wouldn't be set after the play...so they drew it up on the fly where LeBron would sprint down the court passed the unprepared players.

Once again, LeBron had an open lane and dunked the ball.

"James to the bucket!"

"Let me introduce myself, he said!"

The arena was going crazy. Both Portland fans and Lakers fans were in awe at the game going on before them. Then there were the LeBron fans who literally had their jaws on the floor at the feats of their idol.

The Blazers called a timeout to try and quell the run their opponents were on. The Lakers were hyped as they went back to the bench with Y/N high-fiving LeBron.

"They loving you, dawg."

"Don't think I'm taking away your touches." LeBron replied.

"You can score all you want if it gets us the win."

He chuckled. "It's gonna take a team effort. I want you with the ball once we're out of this timeout."

And that plan was what was enacted. LeBron was more off-ball the rest of the quarter while Y/N had the ball and dictated offense.

The game went on. LeBron and Y/N alternated on-ball duties and tried to get everyone else involved while also getting their own points.

But by the midway of the 4th quarter, things were beginning to get out of hand. The Lakers were down 104-111 with 6 minutes left.

The match had been close throughout as the duo of Lillard and CJ had combined for 49 points. But what the Lakers didn't expect was for their bench player, Nik Stauskas, to have 24 points with 5 three-pointers.

The next two minutes went by. The Lakers played great defense but were scoreless themselves. CJ was able to finally scratch and put up a three over Rondo.

Afterward, Y/N got fouled on a drive and scored free throws. It was now 106-114.

On the next possession, the Blazers turned it over and Ingram held the ball. It was passed around before going back to him where he shot a three...but missed.

Lillard grabbed the board and pushed it up. The Lakers tried to get their defense set but missed an open CJ. Lillard passed it to him and Y/N immediately sprinted to try and contest.

CJ threw up a three as Y/N closed out on him but it went in anyway. The Blazers fans roared.

The Lakers tried to cut the deficit on the next few possessions. A three was made by Josh Hart and Kuzma also drained one. But it was all for nil as in the next possession, Lillard drove passed both of them and got an and-one opportunity.

There were a couple of free throws exchanged for both teams. Later, Y/N got a pass from Rondo and made a three-pointer, making the score 119–124. Stauskus was fouled on the next possession and scored two more free throws, putting them up by 7.

There were 24 seconds left in the game. LeBron had the ball and attempted to dictate the offense to get a clean shot. Y/N was on the court with him, Hart, Rondo, and Kuzma. They all went through the motions trying to get open.

Unfortunately, there was a miscommunication. Kuzma was supposed to cut to the basket but was still trying to shake off Evan Turner. LeBron made a quick behind-the-back pass that went to no one and instead bounced toward the stands.

That was surely the nail in the coffin. All they could do now was foul, which they did. Lillard made the free throws and out of the next timeout, Y/N tried to make a three to make it closer but missed. Lillard grabbed the rebound and held on to it as the clock ran out.

"That'll do it. Portland defeats LA 116-128."

"That makes it 16 straight wins against the Lakers for the Trailblazers."

Streamers and confetti fell from the ceiling in celebration of the Blazers win. Despite the loss, Y/N displayed sportsmanlike conduct and congratulated the opposing players. He dapped up Lillard and McCollum after LeBron did.

With that, Y/N rejoined his squad and went into the locker room.

THE THREE REPORTERS sat around the table. Cameras continued to roll as the long-awaited segment was just beginning. The host introduced the topic at hand which was the Lakers' slow start to the season. The title: Trouble in La La Land?

"Skip, the loss to the Spurs was surely disappointing. LeBron didn't get off to the greatest of starts. He couldn't hit a shot early in the game and had about 4 points in the 1st quarter."

Skip nodded as did Wilson. Shannon continued.

"But then they kinda got going. Y/N kept them close. Y/N was unbelievable."

"He was." Skip agreed. "Unbelievable."

"Josh Hart...amazing last night," Shannon said. "So they fight and claw and right at the end...LeBron sends it to overtime with a three. I know you saw that, Skip. I told you that's what Bron Bron does."

Skip rolled his eyes and Wilson chuckled. Shannon kept going.

"Right when that happened, I was excited. We were going to OT and I was already getting my material prepped for today, for what I was gonna tell ya. I'm writing that jawn down....a little bit of this...little bit of that...Bron gets an and-one and we're up...a little bit of this...writing a little bit of that...but then..."

Shannon shook his head. The game didn't end the way he hoped and now he had to eat crow today during the show.

"I don't mind the two missed free throws, but what I can't excuse is letting Rudy Gay walk into a three at the top of the key.  You just can't let that happen. So yeah, I'm very disappointed in the performance last night."

"Took you a while for you to get there...but you did." Skip picked up his papers and hit them against the desk before putting them back down. "You know what happened? Last night, the King did not have Ray Allen to save him against my Spurs the way he did back in 2013."

"He had Y/N."

"Well, if he had the ball in his hands at the end...he would've made those free throws." Skip continued. "So as it always has been...LeBron giveth...and he taketh. He got them overtime but yet again takes it all away in the clutch when it matters most."

The two debated more about LeBron and his woes until it was time to talk about the co-star, Y/N. Skip, always an avid supporter of the young guard, chose to speak first about him.

"Once again, the Prodigy is left high and dry by none other than the King. Can I even call him the King? More like...jester or something. The crown should go to Y/N for all I know."

"Skip!" Shannon retorted. "He's as much at fault as Bron. Against the Blazers he let CJ and Stauskus combine for damn near 50. Rockets, he shot 8 for 20. And he was ice cold during that whole OT yesterday."

Wilson decided to chime in. "Both may have their woes but remember guys...it's only been three games."

There was a brief pause before Wittman continued.

"These stars have to learn to gel together and they have all the time in the world to do so. They weren't going to go 20-0 in the first two months, we don't expect them to win a championship in their first year. It's a process. And soon enough we will see the full potential of a Lakers team led by the Prodigy and the King."

The two were a bit taken aback by his words and the neutral stance he took. Wilson was always like that, giving wisdom and unbiased takes on the sport he's followed all his life. All they could do was nod at his remarks.

"Once again, the wits of Wilson prevail." The host said.

NBA ON CHRISTMAS DAY was once again upon them. Y/N had had his fair share of experiences playing on the holiday as did the rest of his squad. LeBron especially.

But this was no regular Christmas Day game at Oracle Arena. There was some weight in the matchup between the Lakers and the Warriors.

In the case of Y/N and the team, they were gentlemen swept in the postseason prior by Golden State. The Warriors then dominated their way through the playoffs and ended up sweeping LeBron and the Cavaliers in the NBA Finals.

There was some get-back to be had. Y/N wanted to put the Warriors in their place while LeBron wanted revenge for the humiliating loss he endured last summer. And with the two superstars having that mentality...it was surely going to be a battle.

"It's the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers. Merry Christmas everyone!"

"And this surely be a fun matchup as these two teams face off for the very first time this season."

At tip-off, center Ivica Zubac won and tapped the ball to Lonzo. The big man got in the post and awaited a pass, but once Lonzo threw it to him, Draymond Green stole it and ran up the court with his team.

All it took was a couple of passes until it made it to Kevin Durant, who shot it with ease and made a three. The fans cheered.

Lakers went back the other way and LeBron had the ball. Y/N set a screen for him before quickly running to the top of the three-point line. LeBron immediately threw it to the open Y/N where he shot the jumper. The ball swished in and the game was tied.

"Y/N L/N, the second leading scorer for the Lakers, knocks down his first shot!"

On the next possession, the Warriors couldn't score and the Lakers got the ball back. This time, Brandon Ingram ran a play himself and ended up getting free where he scooped in a layup passed Draymond.

In the next play, Klay dribbled toward the hoop and found a pocket between LeBron and Zubac where he passed it to a cutting Kevon Looney. He dunked it and tied the game.

Lonzo dribbled it up the court and looked for an open man. Y/N was in the corner but ended up zipping passed Klay. He was too slow to catch up and it gave Y/N an opening.

The point guard lobbed it up to his teammate where Y/N grabbed it and slammed it into the hoop. The fans cheered at the feat.

"Whoa! Y/N with the alley-oop jam!"

"Young man sure got hops!"

Warriors had the ball now. Curry passed it to Draymond who immediately found an open Durant in the corner. KD caught the pass and shot a three over Ingram, sinking it. The score was now 10-12.

That was how the game went for most of the first half. It went back and forth between the hot-handed teams.

Everyone seemed to get a piece of the action. From Lonzo to Kuzma to even Lance Stephenson. Even on the other side, Iguodala, Draymond, and Shaun Livingston were providing offense for the Warriors.

Things started to go very well for the Lakers though. By the end of the half, the Lakers were up 15. LeBron had 17 points and Y/N had 11. A big part of their lead was also because of the contribution from Ingram, Zubac, and Rondo.

But...four minutes into the third quarter, things would start to get scary.

Lonzo inbounded the ball to LeBron. He dribbled it up the court and went towards Draymond Green. He planned on posting him up and looking for a better look, but after an awkward step, he stumbled and fell to a knee.

He threw the ball to Lonzo before he could lose it. Lonzo quickly passed it to Ingram for three but he missed. The Warriors were now back on offense and LeBron had to run back albeit a bit gingerly.

The Warriors tried to get a shot off but weren't able to. Y/N got the rebound and went up the court with the rest of his team but stopped upon hearing Coach Walton call a timeout.

It was for LeBron. He was underneath the hoop squatting and holding his groin area. Some of the coaching staff went to check on him. Y/N along with Lance also went to see.

"Fuck!" LeBron grunted as he stood up.

"You okay, Bron?" A staff member asked.

He shook his head. Y/N was a bit worried himself.

"It hurt bad?" He asked.

"Yeah," LeBron replied. "I felt something pop."

With that, LeBron limped to the locker room with the staff and his trainer. Now without the superstar, it was up to Y/N and the rest of the squad to keep it rolling.

"All right." Coach Walton began as he held his clipboard. "They're telling me Bron likely ain't coming back so we gotta finish it ourselves. We might be up 14 but you already know how this team operates. They can get hot at any moment."

Y/N chose to speak. "We have to hang our hats on defense. That's how we win this. We gotta make it hard for Steph, Klay, and KD. Force the others to initiate offense. We got that?"

The team agreed with Y/N's assessment. Coach Walton did too and was proud of the man's leadership.

"Let's go!"

And that's what they tried to do. It went well for a bit, but once Y/N subbed out it started to get ugly. Curry got hot, Iguodala hit a three, and KD easily got to the basket. It was a two-point game at one point.

But toward the end, Y/N got back in and led the charge...along with veteran point guard, Rajon Rondo. They played good defense on the opposing guards and got the ball back with seven seconds left in the quarter.

Rondo brought it up and passed it to Y/N. He dribbled it up in front of Iguodala and immediately shot a three over him. It went in as the crowd sounded off and Y/N strummed an air guitar in homage to their veteran, Lance.

Entering the fourth, the score was 91-82 in favor of LA. But for the rest of the game...the Lakers dominated. They had three straight possessions that included a Y/N layup, a Zubac putback, and a Rondo three-pointer. The score ballooned to 100-83.

And two guards kept their foot on the Warriors' neck. Rondo and Y/N were a tandem as they combined their playmaking and shotmaking respectively. Everyone on the floor for the Lakers got involved quite easily thanks to them.

Soon the lead was large enough that both teams decided to pull their main players and put in the bench and rookies. Y/N and the starters sat on the sideline and continued to cheer them on.

The game ended with a score of 127-101. A blowout win for the Lakers against the reigning champion Warriors. This was surely going to be talked about the rest of the year and questions on whether the Lakers could truly contend were bound to come up.

Later, the team left the arena and boarded the team bus back to the hotel. They had a game against the Sacramento Kings in a couple of days, so they had the rest of the night and tomorrow to enjoy the holidays.

Although it kind of sucked for Y/N not being able to see his family or Hailee for Christmas, he at least had his teammates who were like brothers to him. They'd find a way to make the best of it.

LeBron was in the back resting with an eye mask and headphones. He had ice on his groin area and healing up. Y/N sat near the front with his phone in hand and had his fleece Under Armor hoodie on.

In the seat across from him, Lonzo and Kuzma were secretly filming. Y/N didn't even know as he was busy texting Hailee.

They tried to hold in their laugh and it caught the attention of Y/N who looked straight into Lonzo's camera with a confused look.
