THE HINT OF LIGHT entering the room through the slivers of the curtains meant that morning had arrived. Hailee opened her eyes, her vision adjusting to the illumination within the bedroom. Immediately, she remembered where she was.

It paralleled the morning of over a year ago when she woke up in Y/N's home. Then, she was hungover and initially had no memory of what transpired the night before. It seemed like a dream.

Now, she recalled everything...and she knew it really happened. Her coming over, the brief squabble, the declaration of love, and the eventual passion. The lovemaking with her best friend (now boyfriend? she thought) was perfect, and her being nude beneath the covers was all she needed to see to know it wasn't just a dream.

She turned to the other side of the bed and noticed that her partner wasn't there. With an arched brow, she sat up against the headboard and wondered where he'd gone. Hailee looked ahead and saw the door ajar, then focused her hearing and caught the sound of sizzling. What hit her next was the smell.

Bacon? The brunette thought as she chuckled. Is he really cooking? There's no way.

Hailee got out of bed and put on her green shirt from last night. She put on her underwear as well and walked out of the room. She entered and walked down the hallway and into the living area, where she looked into the kitchen.

Y/N was there, only in his shorts and shirtless as he stood in front of the stove. He was cooking. The man finished stirring some of the scrambled eggs and turned around upon hearing light footsteps.

"Good morning." He beamed before scooping up the cooked food and putting it on a plate that had bacon and toast. Y/N picked it up and walked over to the island she was standing by.

"Wow..." She put her elbows on the counter and looked at the plate. "Now this is Ramsay level."

Y/N chuckled. "I...uh, started cooking the last several months. Not an expert, but good enough to make bearable cuisines."

"That's cool. What made you take up the challenge?"

The man rubbed his neck and shrugged. He walked up beside her and pointed at the dish in front of them.

"For...for times like this." He admitted.

Hailee understood what he meant, and her heart instantly fluttered. Y/N was such a sweetheart and confessed that he looked forward to making breakfast for her one day.

She looked up at him and softly replied. "You're so sweet."

He smiled and leaned in to kiss her. She was hesitant at first, mainly because she hadn't freshened up and just woke up. Hailee pecked his lips before pulling back a bit.

"Now? I have morning breath." She lightly giggled with a tinge of embarrassment.

Y/N's lips hovered over hers and he let out a chuckle.

"Please, I'm around sweaty smelly guys almost every day. Don't worry about it."

She smiled and finally reciprocated the kiss. Their embrace intensified to the point where Hailee moved away from the counter and ran her hands along his bare torso. Y/N's hands roamed her back and to her rear, but he pulled away after a couple of seconds.

"Your food's gonna get cold." He said.

She whined from the abrupt loss of contact. "Microwaves exist for a reason. Come on."

"But then it won't taste the same." He chuckled and planted one last kiss on her lips before walking to the fridge. "That plate was hard work. I want you to enjoy it."

"Boooo." She replied and finally sat on the stool. "Where's your food?"

"In the microwave. I'm gonna heat it up." He said as he took out a jug of water from the fridge.

She scoffed. "Really?"

"I don't mind reheated food. You on the other hand..." He pointed at her as he held the jug. "Picky."

"I am not!"

He simply shrugged and went over to the microwave. Y/N put it for less than a minute and waited for his food to heat up.

"When have I ever been picky?" She continued.

"Let's see." He held his hand out and pointed at his fingers. "You always ask for light ice on drinks. You get mad when they give you fries that are too salty. That one time in the studio we ordered burgers and one came with mayonnaise—"

She laughed. "Okay, okay! You act like that makes me a menace."

Y/N laughed as well and took out his food from the microwave. He went over to the island and sat to the left of her on the counter.

"It's pretty cute, though." He admitted.

Hailee smirked and looked down at her plate to start eating. Y/N joined her and after some small talk, Hailee asked the big question that was on her mind.

"So...what does this make us?"

Y/N arched a brow and swallowed his food. "Hmm?"

"This." She gestured at the two of them. "You know...?"

He immediately knew what she was inferring. He grabbed her hand on the counter and held it.

"For me...uh...I'd hope this means that we're...together? If—If that's what you want." Y/N replied, adding the last part abruptly.

Hailee put her right hand over his that held the other. "Of course, I want that. I just thought...a part of me was worried that you saw this as a quick fuck sort of thing."

Y/N shook his head. "No. You're not that to me. You're more. You heard me last night, you're mine...and I'm yours. I love you, Haiz."

The girl was over the moon hearing those words come from her lover. She smiled and caressed the top of his hand with her thumb.

"I'd leap over this counter and take you right now..." She looked at her dish. "But I'm actually enjoying this breakfast."

Y/N let out a laugh. "How noble of you."

She started eating again. Y/N was already done with his. The man spoke again.

"Um...how do you think we should play this? Go public? You know how it is with us...things are never private."

Hailee agreed. "In all honesty, I think we should wait before we do. You and Dua just split up. Niall and I haven't yet officially but at this point, that shit is over with."

"Right." He replied.

"When the time's right, we will." Hailee added, then smirked. "Unless you think keeping your hands off me in public is so hard."

He scoffed. "Please. I should be telling you that."

Y/N got up to put his plate away. Hailee rolled her eyes at his rebuttal.

"I have self-control. I'm a cool cucumber." She replied.

He opened up his jug of water and responded before taking a drink.

"Did you hear yourself last night? I wouldn't have been surprised if the guy on the floor below us called the landlord to complain."

She gasped at his remark and chuckled. "You think you're soooo hilarious."

Y/N finished drinking and smiled at her. "Love you, though."

THE GAME WAS in Miami as the Lakers faced the currently 8th-seeded Heat. The starters were Lonzo Ball, Y/N L/N, Brandon Ingram, Julius Randle, and Brook Lopez

For the Heat, they had Goran Dragic, Josh Richardson, Justise Winslow, Kelly Olynyk, and Hassan Whiteside. Both teams met on the court for tip-off.

"It is time! The Heat face the Lakers on this wonderful Thursday night."

"Miami is 32-29 while the Lakers are 32-28. A win today for LA will tie Denver for the 8th seed in the West."

"And it should be possible, as the Lakers have been rolling despite the absence of L/N. His return should add to this already scorching team."

"That is right."

The Heat won the tip and got the ball. They tried initiating offense and threw the ball to Whiteside below the basket. He posted up Lopez and planned on scoring on him, but Lonzo blinded sided him and snatched the ball away from him.

The Lakers were now on offense and ran to their hoop. Lonzo threw it to Ingram who in turn passed it to Y/N by the sideline. He dribbled passed Kelly and scored on the layup.

"L/N scooping for the score."

The Heat responded with Dragic scoring a floater over Lopez. Both sides committed fouls which lead to free throws. With the Lakers up 6-4, Ingram scored on a euro-step and put them up  8-4.

LA had a run after Lonzo stole the ball on a pass. Randle scored an and-one on Whiteside on one possession and then a driving layup the next.

Miami tried scoring on their turn but missed the shot. Lonzo got the rebound and ran up the court before passing it to Randle. He dribbled between his legs before finding an open Y/N on the top of the three-point arc. He threw it to him where Y/N shot and made the three.

"L/N for three!"

It seemed to be going their way, but it wouldn't last. The Heat got comfortable and had a run of their own. Their longtime legend, Dwyane Wade, got off the bench and even scored a shot himself. By the time Y/N was subbed out and the first quarter ended, the score was 33-36 in favor of Miami.

Things would get better as Kyle Kuzma and Isaiah Thomas gave the team offense. By the time Y/N came back in for Thomas, the Lakers were up 43-38.

Y/N dribbled the ball up during their possession. The player in front of him was too busy worrying about Randle that he left Y/N open. The hooper quickly scored a three.

On the Heat's possession, Wade dribbled passed his defender and scored a layup. The Lakers got the ball back and Y/N dribbled down the court. Without hesitation, he pulled up for three and scored over Richardson.

"L/N again! Wow!"

Both teams went back and forth a bit. Miami lost the ball in one possession and Y/N ran down the court. Caldwell-Pope grab the ball and immediately threw it in Y/N's direction. By the time he got it, he was by the hoop and he scored it.

The second quarter went by and the third was coming to an end. Y/N by the time had a rather quiet 17 points. The clock winded down and Ingram passed it to him in the side, where he scored another three. He now had 20 points.

Once the fourth quarter started, Lonzo Ball held the ball and went through the play. He passed it to center Ivica Zubac and the big man gave it to Y/N who was running by. The screen got Y/N free and he shot a three again, swishing it.

"L/N dropping it in again!"

The Heat couldn't score on their turn and the Lakers got it back. Lonzo gave it to Y/N and the guard took his time going down the court. Zubac set a screen again and Y/N to the open space. He shot another three, which went in.

"Y/N...on its way...again!"

"That man is on fire!"

Dwyane Wade responded with a couple of points on his end. The Lakers got it back and Lonzo kept his eye on Y/N. With a few well-placed screens, Y/N got free from the defenders on him and got behind the three-point line. Lonzo passed it to him and the guard let it fly once more.

"L/N's red hot at the moment...woah! He banks it in! He's got three triples in the fourth quarter alone."

Y/N ran back on defense. Josh Hart from the bench called out to him.

"You call bank?"

"In my head." Y/N replied with a pant.

"Don't count unless you call it out, bro."

Y/N chuckled. "Fuck you."

The hooper paid attention back to the game. He kept his eye on the ball and before it could reach Wade, Y/N extended his hand and stole the ball. He ran down the court and dunked the ball into the hoop, causing the Lakers fans in the building to cheer.

"L/N with the jam! Miami cannot control the Lakers."

The broadcaster was correct. The Heat could not come back from their 16-point deficit and the game concluded with the Lakers winning 131-113. Y/N ended the match with 29 points.

"The Heat defense got whacked tonight. This is only the fourth time Miami has allowed 130 points or more since...get this...1995."

"All thanks to scorching hot offense from the young Lakers and a game-high 29 points from their returning star, L/N."

"No rust at all. I wonder what he had last night to get him this amped up."

"Whatever it was. Keep at it!"

Y/N dapped up Dwyane Wade and the rest of the Heat players on the court. He then went up to his bench and was encircled by his teammates.

"Might have to crash a few more nightclubs if it means you won't miss." Kuzma joked.

"Hilarious, dawg." Y/N replied.

They went into the locker room and freshened up. Lonzo Ball was on Snapchat making videos (mostly clowning Kuzma) and Y/N had finished putting on his regular clothes. Zo finished annoying Kyle and walked up to Y/N with the phone as he put on his shoes.

"Aight, we got the L/N 1s on now. Oh, wait...they haven't even been announced yet, huh?" Lonzo asked.

"Aye, man..."

"New jeans? What about this wrinkly ass shirt?" He laughed. "You don't iron this?"

"Come on, bruh."

"All that moolah and you can't get an iron?"

"Relax, Zo. Don't make me roast them goofy-ass BBB shoes. Prolly the reason you scored only 9 points."

"Aight, bruh, you ain't gotta get so mean." He chuckled and pointed the camera at himself. "Don't forget the seven assists, six rebounds, and...six steals? I did it all today."

Y/N laughed with Lonzo as he ended the video and posted it. He looked over at his bag nearby and pointed.

"Mind getting my phone for me, man?" Y/N asked.

"All right."

Lonzo went over to the bag and grabbed the phone. The screen woke up and he glanced at it for a moment, seeing the text that had popped up. It caught his eye and he read it rather quickly, garnering a chuckle.

"Oh shit, dawg. You better answer this. I didn't mean to read it, though."

He arched a brow and took the phone. Y/N looked at the screen and saw the text. It was from Hailee, who Lonzo knew almost nothing about aside from seeing that they worked together on music. Y/N read the text and his eyes widened.

You think they'll let you bring that jersey home? I want to wear it while you have your way with me.

He stifled a laugh. "Um...yeah." He looked back at Lonzo and put the phone away. "You have to forget all that. Don't look at my texts!"

"It was an accident, dawg. Not my fault current iPhones wake up on their own." He raised his arms and started walking to his bench. "Don't forget to respond though."

Y/N laughed and threw a towel at him. Lonzo snickered and threw it back at him before walking away.

THE SEGMENT BEGAN and the two hosts were at the table prepared. Wilson was sitting near them, but the camera hadn't panned to him yet.

"Now, how long can they continue this streak?" Their other host, Joy, asked from an off-site location.

Before speaking on it, they turned to Wilson and laughed. Finally, the camera panned to him and he was wearing Lakers gear. Everything from a jersey over his suit, a hat, purple and gold sunglasses, and a foam finger.

"Come on! Let's begin! Let's talk." Wilson exclaimed as he jumped in his seat.

"Walking in here must've been funny, huh?" Shannon asked.

"A few weird looks and giggles, but I don't mind." He replied.

"You remind me a little of Shannon. Instead, he would rep some Cavs gear for his best friend, LeBron." Skip remarked.

"And if we were still in the 90s, Skip would've been coming in with an MJ jersey every day." He butted.

Skip pointed at his shoes. As always, he had Jordans on. "I can't lose in these shoes!"

After the brief buffoonery, the three men began to speak. Wilson took off his glasses and foam finger. Skip went first.

"Do I believe they can continue this? I think they can. I can see them adding a few more wins to their ongoing streak." He looked at the papers in front of him. "In the next week, they have the Spurs, the Trailblazers, Magic, Nuggets, and your man...LeBron and the Cavaliers."

Shannon spoke. "As much as I'm enjoying what I've been seeing from the Lakers...and Y/N's big game...I honestly see this slowing down a bit. The battle for the eight seed might catch up to them."

"So out of these five teams, name the games you see them winning." Wilson replied.

"Hmmm. I see them winning against San Antonio. Sorry, Skip. They will lose to Portland because they haven't won a game against them since 2014. They will beat Orlando and Denver. Then, unfortunately, they will lose to the Cavaliers."

"Losing to the Cavs?" Skip smirked. "I wonder why."

"The King will show out in LA. There's nothing they can do to stop him." Shannon said gleefully.

"Thoughts?" Skip asked Wilson.

"Just as Shannon thinks LeBron will put on a show that Sunday...I believe Y/N will. A nationally televised game? He will show the world that even he can go toe to toe with the best player in the world."

Skip arched a brow. "I don't know about best player..."

Shannon shushed him and Wilson continued.

"Y/N is hot on and off the court. Both on the hardwood and in the studio. He's one of a kind. He's a prodigy! The Prodigy, as I've coined it."

"I honestly like that." Skip replied. "He might have to trademark that if I'm being honest."

Wilson nodded. "They'll keep this going until they secure that playoff spot. Then when the lights are the brightest...he will show why he's up next."

THE LAKERS AND the Nuggets were having their final regular season game and were one of the final games in the NBA schedule entirely.

Both teams had a 46-35 record. Whoever won tonight's game would get their 47th win, tie the Spurs record, and move into the playoffs. In the Lakers' case, they'd jump up to the 7th seed instead of taking 8th since they beat the Spurs all four times this season.

But as said, they'd have to win for that to happen.

(A/N: in real life, the Lakers were already out of the playoffs and this game was Timberwolves vs Nuggets. But for the sake of this universe let's change things up lol)

The nationally televised game was being broadcast. Cameras filmed the outside of the arena and followed attendees inside. It was definitely a sold-out crowd. The broadcasters spoke.

"It's been almost eight years since the Lakers last played in a postseason game. And while tonight's contest isn't a playoff game...there's certainly a playoff atmosphere."

In the arena, both teams readied themselves on the court. Y/N dapped up a couple of the Nuggets players and got in position for the tip-off. As he did, he looked around the stands ahead of him and was surprised to see a familiar face in the first couple of rows.

Hailee.

She waved at him and applauded. Beside her was her brother, Griffin, who called out to Y/N and cheered as well. Y/N smiled back at them before focusing on the referee who walked to the middle with the ball.

They did the tip-off which the Lakers won. Lopez swatted it toward Lonzo who started to dribble the ball up the court.

"And we are underway here in downtown Los Angeles in Staples Center."

The ball was passed around until it reached Y/N. The crowd sounded as their star player held the ball, but he didn't shoot it. He watched for Lopez to get open, which he did. The hooper threw it over his defender and once Lopez got it, he spun around Nikola Jokic and scored the points.

Nuggets got the inbound and were on offense. Jamal Murray dribbled past Lonzo and passed it to Jokic. The Serbian center shot a floater over Lopez and scored right back.

On the Lakers' end, they couldn't respond. Nuggets came back and ended up scoring a three thanks to an open Will Barton. Y/N cursed at himself for the lack of coverage and asked for the ball.

He dribbled up the court and passed it to Lonzo. They moved around for a bit until it went right back to Y/N. He dribbled past Barton and got free, shooting a midrange shot and making it.

"L/N gives the Lakers their second bucket!"

Jamal got the ball and switched onto Ingram. He ended up driving past him and scoring a layup. Lakers didn't score on their turn but once Nuggets got it back, Jokic threw it to Paul Millsap in the corner, where he made a three.

Y/N didn't like being down, especially in a crucial game like this. It didn't matter if it was barely the first quarter. He demanded the ball and called for his teammates to follow the play.

He kept his eye on Randle, then Ingram. Y/N palmed the ball and acted as if he was going to throw it at Ingram, causing two guys to run toward him. This freed Randle and with a quick no-look move, Y/N passed it to him instead. Julius scored a dunk and the crowd cheered.

"Whoa! How about that great no-look to Randle!"

"Amazing!"

The Nuggets couldn't counter on their end so the Lakers got another opportunity. Ingram dribbled past his defender and got close to the hoop, but two players got in his way. He quickly passed it to Y/N who was open in the corner. He pulled up and shot the three, making it.

"The three goes through for the Prodigy!"

Midway through the quarter, both teams were tied 13-13. Both were adamant about winning and making the playoffs. Lakers bigs like Lopez, Randle, and Zubac battled Nuggets' star player Jokic. Lonzo, Y/N, and Hart went toe to toe with Jamal Murray, Garry Harris, and Will Barton.

They went back and forth through the whole game. No team went up more than five points and once they did it the lead was quickly depleted with a run.

With 2 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Lakers were up 101-99. Jamal Murray went up the court with Zubac on him. He easily dribbled past him but was met by Kuzma and Ingram. He jumped up and threw it in the basket, falling as he did so. There was a collective groan that came from the fans in the arena.

"Murray banks it in! It is now tied!"

"How good is this kid?"

Lakers tried scoring on the other end but didn't get anything. Nuggets tried to get a lead but also fell short. Then the Lakers tried, but it was fruitless once more.

With the game still tied and the Nuggets having the ball, they had four seconds to try and win the game. Paul Millsap held the ball and looked for a teammate to inbound it to.

Jokic freed himself from Lopez and ran to the corner. Y/N watched it unfold and quickly left Barton to guard the big man as Lopez stayed on the player he left.

Jokic tried to shoot but didn't see Y/N coming. He quickly swiped the ball out of his hands and it dropped to the ground. Y/N immediately picked the ball up and called timeout. The referee saw this and granted it to them.

"L/N knocks it away!"

"Woohoo-hoo! What a defensive play!"

Y/N dropped the ball and yelled out in jubilation. The crowd continued to erupt. Kuzma ran up to him and pat his back as he embraced him. A couple of other players like Lopez and Ingram gassed him up for the great play.

The broadcasters looked over the replay and gave their take to the people watching at home.

"L/N sees Jokic get free and leaves Will Barton. Y/N with the active hands not only gets the strip but secures the possession and calls timeout. How great is Y/N L/N?"

During the timeout, Luke Walton huddled with the team and tried drawing up a play. He looked to Y/N and asked if he approved of having to take the final shot.

He nodded and wiped the sweat from his brow using his jersey. "I got us."

The buzzer sounded and both teams went back on the court. Ingram was inbounding the ball, but couldn't get to Y/N initially since two players were on him. Instead, he threw it to Kuzma.

The clock was at 3.7 seconds. Kuzma only held it for a moment before throwing it to Lonzo. The point guard was more open, so the second man on Y/N left and tried to guard Lonzo. This left only Jamal on Y/N.

Lonzo dribbled and spun around before ultimately passing it to Y/N. With only 1.6 seconds left, he threw up a three-pointer as Jamal contested. Y/N fell to the ground but kept his eyes on the ball.

It went in at the buzzer. The crowd erupted and they were loud enough to break the sound barrier. Y/N couldn't even comprehend what just happened until his teammates on the court ran up to him also screaming.

"Yes! The LA Lakers get a game-winning shot by L/N!"

"The Prodigy!"

"Indeed!"

Ingram picked the man up and embraced him along with the rest of the huddle. They cheered with him as Y/N let out exclamations of grandeur.

"You cold motherfucker!" Hart exclaimed.

Lonzo palmed his head. "That's how we do it!"

Nuggets players had their heads low and were obviously disappointed, going back into the locker room. Cameramen and a few media members got on the court to film the celebrating players.

"This man has proven himself time and time again!"

"We're witnessing the rise of a superstar."

"He is already a superstar. We are witnessing his path to being an all-time great!"

"And with this win, the Lakers have secured a playoff spot and will face the second-seeded Golden State Warriors!"

Y/N high-fived the rest of his team once getting out of the huddle. He was left alone for a bit and spoke to a reporter about the game. He shouldn't have expected it to go smoothly, as Lonzo and Kuzma ran up and soaked him in water.

"Cool him off! Cool him off!" They both yelled before running away.

He finished the interview drenched. Y/N bid farewell and was going to make his way to the locker room, but stopped upon seeing Hailee and Griffin in the second row. He called out to them and the girl immediately got out of her row and went down the steps. The sudden action left Griffin in wonder.

A security guard tried stopping Hailee, but Y/N let him know she was with him. He nodded and let her step onto the court. She immediately embraced him...and cameras were still on Y/N.

"Oh, you're wet." She remarked.

"I'm just grateful it wasn't Gatorade." He said with a chuckle. "I'm so happy you showed up."

"I wouldn't have missed it for the world." Hailee replied as she looked up at him.

The hooper chuckled, glancing at the cameras and groups of fans looking at them.

"I think it's time to let the world know how special you are to me." He said softly.

Immediately, he leaned down and kissed Hailee on the lips. She immediately reciprocated the act and placed her hand on the back of his head.

There were awes and applause from fans who were still in the arena and witnessed the act. People at home would get to see it from whichever media accounts decided to post about it.

Then there was Griffin...who was perplexed but ended up joining the applause, albeit slowly.
