|ONE: The × Hunter × Exam|
I was three years old when I was taking from my village. One other girl was there with beautiful red hair. Five years my senior. Her name, I would soon find out, was Erza then Erza Scarlet when Jellal gave her her own last name. She protected me during our time at stupid real world hell. And gour a good year and a half out bond grew until we made it out together. And we went to Fairy Tail and perfected our Requip and Sword magic, but Erza was much better at it.
Which led me to branching out and learn other magic from the differing young mages in the guild. And now, I was twelve years old. Twelve years old and I was on my way to the Hunters Exam. I didn't really want to take the exam. Instead, I wanted to do something than Erza hasn't accomplished yet. And there's also that first Mage of Fiore Hunter thing that many of us prepubescent dweebs aspire to become.
"Do you have everything?" Erza Scarlet asked me as she held my shoulders.
The boat to take me to the Exam was right on the docks waiting for me to say my goodbyes.
"Erze, I have everything. I have some cards for boredom, several protein bars to help rejuvenate, and this special trinket." I showed her my water bottle with ale in it. "To replenish my energy for Energy Dragon."
She snatched the bottle out of my hands. "You shouldn't drink this! You're underage! You spend way too much time with Cana."
"I do NOT! Anyways, Cana has been drinking since she was my age." I reminded her.
"Hence why I think Cana is a bad influence on you." Erza told me.
The said brunette named Cana Alberona looked over from her barrallel of ale and glared at the redhead before me. With that, I started to laugh inside my head. Of course, Erza couldn't see her, and I didn't want her to know what Cana was doing from behind her barrell.
"But alcohol gives me energy!" I explained.
"I know, but there needs to be a way for you to get that intense energy through that kind of respiration known as Alcoholic Fermentation than alcohol." Well there was bread, but bread is bland. I like the taste of alcohol more though. I was not going to tell her about bread.
"Erza, she kinda needs to leave now if she wants to make it there on time." Lucy Heartfillia reminded her.
Erza sighed. "I know. If anything happens to you, I will be your worst nightmare." What does she mean by that?
"Bye, [Y/N]!" my pinkette surrogate brother, Natsu Dragneel, cheered for me as he and Gray Fullbuster gave me a great big hug. Happy flew in towards me after the two boys released me from their hold. I wish I had a cat like Happy. I wish I had a talking flying cat period.
"I'll know what happened to you at any given point of time." Erza told me as she discarded her breastplate to reveal her normal white blouse underneath all of her armours. Her blue fairy tail emblem on her shoulder was visible. And I bumped my emblem that was on my forearm to hers. It was what we always did when one of us would leave on a solo mission (or job).
"I know. I love you, sis. See you when I get back." and I left the fairy tail guild, walking to the pier and walked aboard.
I was going to the hunter exam. And this was the beginning of an adventure. An adventure I would have to take without the people that were my family. My first adventure on my own. It seems weird when you think about it. Before long, the boat left the harbor and I was ushered into a cabin.
"So, why do you want to become a hunter?" the man who was maning the reins (and reigns) of the boat. I stood taken aback by that statement (rather a question). "Why do you want to be a hunter?"
"I want to be able to accomplish something that my sister has yet to be able to. She's been ahead of me since we both emersed ourselves in magic. From being the youngest person in our guild to be an S-Class mage at the age of fourteen to becoming the Queen of the Fairies. And I want to do this to accomplish something she hasn't and in turn, make her proud of her little sister." I explained.
"Your answer although quite honest I feel that you have neglected to explain another reason for you to be a hunter." How did he know?
"I want the information that being a hunter will give me. In order to find out what happened to my parents and why they left me in that village when I was a baby. I want to find answers of my past. Maybe it'll give me a deeper sense of who I am if I knew who my birth parents are." I explained.
The man, the captain, smiled at me. "I will take you to the harbor. Then, you are on your own. But from what Markarov Dreyar told me, you will have no trouble finding the Hunter Exam afterwards. With that nose of yours. Although, I'm quite surprised that your motion sickness hasn't affected you yet."
"Motion...sickness?" and the dread I feel when I'm on a boat, on a train, on a cart. or any kind of moving vehicle shot at me. And I fell down on the floor, the feeling of nausea and the sudden light-headed dizziness clouded my vision. "Just get... me off this... boat." This would end up being the worst thing I ever decided to do.

When we finally docked at the harbor, I sniffed the air. Multiple smells entered my nose. Try to find the hunter exam. I brought out my archive magic and found the smell the hunter's exam was emitting. I continued to sniff the smell until it became the only thing I could smell and I put the archive away. This way I could see where I would go to the exam. A cat would work wonders right now.
I sighed to myself before following the aroma of where the smell would be. And I finally found it. Within a restaurant. Luckily, a navigator was there with a boy about my age with blue eyes and white hair with just a skateboard beside the clothes on his back..
"You look like you're looking for the hunter exam. Of course, I don't know how you made it here without a navigator." the navigator told me.
"Oh, I found it with my nose." I explained, feeling my face grow hot. The navigator looked at me quite surprise while the boy looked at me with a smirk. "I guess it comes in handy sometimes."
The navigator nodded at me. "Would you like to go with Killua here into the exam?" he gestured to the boy. So his name was Killua? I nodded at him and we walked into the restaurant.
"Is that back room available?" the navigator asked the chef.
"What are you having?"
"The steak combo please. The one that will make us see the light. Make it two." Killua and I looked at each other upon hearing the words and we just shrugged.
"Combo for two, eh? How do you want 'em cooked?"
"Grilled slowly over a low flame till done please." Okay, now I understand.
"See yourself to the back." we followed our navigator to the back room. The door shut behind us.
"Natsu would hate that we're here and we aren't getting any food." I noticed Killua giving me a weirded out look. "I sometimes think aloud without meaning to. Natsu and Erza find it endearing while Gray finds it annoying. Of course, Cana also thinks it is is annoying, but her opinion really doesn't matter all that much. Unless she's drunk, so her opinion matters most of the time."
The room started to descend down. "Oh, so the room is an elevator. Convient."
"I'm [Y/N] by the way. [Y/N] Scarlet." I held out my hand to the boy. Killua looked at my hand. "Please, don't leave me hanging. I was taught that a formal introduction requires a handshake. But then again that's fairy tail for you."
"I'm Killua. Killua Zoldyck." the white haired boy shook my hand. Zoldyck.
The elevator stopped moving and I walked out of the room with Killua close behind. A green jelly bean-ish creature gave us each our badge number. I was 100 and Killua was 99. A man wearing a blue shirt with a white eye plastered along it greeted us from his perch before jumping down. "Welcome to the Hunter Exam. I am Tonpa. Would you two newbies like some orange soda before the exam gets underway?"
Killua nodded, took the drink, and walked away, his skateboard in his hand. I gulped down the drink, already tasting and smelling the poison in the drink. "If you wanted to poison me, then you're out of luck, man. My body just reverts the poison into energy I can then use." I tossed the can towards him and walked away.
I waited for a long while before a bell rang out throughout the entire dome and a wall moved up to reveal a man with a suit and pink hair? "I apologize for the delay. Thank you for waiting. The entry period for hunter applicants is officially closed. So with no further adeiu, the Hunter Exam will now begin. One final word of caution. If you are short on luck or ability, keep in mind that there is a very real chance that you could end up seriously injured. Death is another distinct possibility. If you are willing to accept the risks involved, I'll ask you to follow me now. But for the rest of you, kindly exit through the elevator located behind you."
There is no possibly way that any of these people will back out now after they made it to the official exam. No possible way. This man with the pink hair... he has no idea what he's talking about. He has no idea who he's talking to either. Or maybe it's the fact that this a routine script that starts off the exam to give us a chance to quit while still being alive.
"Right then. Very well. All 405 candidates will now participate in phase one." And the pink haired man started to walk down the long path.
We followed after him and his pace kept getting faster as he did which made us have to go at a running pace after him. He's not running is he?
"How rude of me. I neglected to introduce myself. I am Satotz, your examiner for the first phase. It's my responsibility to lead you all to the second phase." the pink haired man, Satotz, explained.
"The second phase? Whatever happened to the first?" Number 294 asked him.
"The first phase is already underway. The first phase is quite simple. All you have to do is follow me to the second phase. So try to keep up." Satotz explained.
"Follow you? That's it?" asked 294 again. "Nothing else?"
"That's right." Satotz told us. "I cannot tell you where or when you must arrive. You need only to follow me."
In the midst of a sea of warriors, the first phase of the exam begins. And a new adventure for this fairy tail mage begins. I wonder how this adventure will compare to the rest of them.
