Shopping spree with best friend he has feelings for, but she loves someone else.
Klaus Mikaelson was renowned in the Supernatural world. Being the first and only hybrid to ever exist, he had successfully built up quite a reputation for himself. He was known to be brutal; one with no regards for anybody's life as long as his purpose was served, not even his family. But there was one person he would put the world on a hold for- his best friend, partner-in-crime- Layla.
And that was exactly what was happening right now. Tensions were high in Mystic Falls ever since the return of the entire Mikaelson family, even the Original Witch being revived now. It, however, also meant that the spirits were high in the Mikaelson household as Esther had announced that a traditional Mikaelson Ball was in order soon and the entire town was invited.
Klaus had sent out a formal invitation inviting Layla to the Ball but what he got in exchange was a panicked call from her and an earful of words on why he hadn't told her about it earlier since she did not have enough time to get a dress for herself now.
"Just take Rebekah to the mall with you and get a dress you like," Klaus tried telling her, which only ended up making her even more furious at him.
"Are you serious right now, Nik?" Layla gasped, "you can't be serious. I can't just pick any dress. I need to look breathtaking!"
"You look good in anyth-"
"No! I need a dress that's going to be the showstopper," Layla cut him off, "and since it's your fault for not telling me ahead of time, you're gonna take me shopping now."
"Why can't you just take Rebekah? She needs a dress too," Klaus tried to reason, but all in vain.
"She's busy trying to convince Matt to be her date, we can't distract her right now," Layla explained, "so, I need to pick a dress for me and her. I need someone to carry the bags and pay for them. So, stop talking and meet me outside the mall in half an hour, bye!"

The Mall
"There you are!" Layla exclaims as Klaus walks up to the entrance with a grumpy look on his face, "I almost thought you were gonna ditch me."
"I considered it...ouch, what was that for?" Klaus gasped dramatically as Layla pinched his arm due to his comment.
"Don't be dramatic, you barely even felt it," she rolled her eyes as she intertwined her hands with his and began to walk into the mall, Klaus following her lead like a lost puppy.
"Okay, where to first?" Layla questioned as they got onto the escalators and she pulled out her phone with a list on it.
Klaus' eyes widened in fear as soon as his eyes landed on the list of 13 items. He had fallen victim to her and Rebekah's shopping sprees many times and he knew that they took the phrase "shop till you drop," a little too seriously.
"Where to? What do you mean? I thought you said you just need a dress?"
"Yeah, a dress. And matching shoes to go with it. And jewelry," Layla hummed as she scrolled through the list, "I also need to find stuff for Bex and then get my nails done-"
"Okay no, I agreed to help with the dress only, you cannot just add more things to your list now, Layla, I'm a very busy man and-"
"Yeah, busy plotting Damon Salvatore's murder? Or a new way to make more hybrids? This is more important, Nik! So, you don't have a choice. Now stop being grumpy and follow me," she commanded as they reached the second floor and Layla strutted off to the first of many, many shops to stop in.
Klaus only sighed in defeat as he rushed to catch up with her. He knew she was a girl-on-a-mission right now, and there was no way he could get out of this now.
"Layla, I think we've shopped enough, love," Klaus gruntled as they left the fifth store of the day and he was already carrying 4 bags in his hands, "I have better things to be doing that carrying your shopping bags. You can just compel someone to do that for you."
"But why should I when I've got you, Nikky?" Layla joked as she flashed him her lovely smile, which was enough to get Klaus to agree with anything, "plus, you're my best friend. Your opinion matters to me. I want you to help me pick what I wear to such an important event. I'll be meeting your mother and favorite brother, Finn, after all."
"Finn is definitely not my favorite brother," Klaus rolled his eyes as he knew she was only teasing him. Layla knew every detail of his life and she could read him better than anyone. She was the one and only person he trusted completely.
That is why he had told her about his curse and since then, she had been by his side. She was there when he struggled to look for a doppelganger and she was there when he finally broke the curse and had stuck behind in Mystic Falls with him, ever since.
"How much more of this list is left?" Klaus whined, "if one of my minions or the Salvatores saw me here, carrying your shopping bags like I'm your chauffeur, my reputation of the big, bad wolf would be dented forever, you know."
"Oh come on, they're too busy fearing what new scheme you're planning to terrorize them again," Layla replied, "last thing they have time for is shopping, right now. Well, maybe except Caroline. That girl always has time for shopping. Respectable, honestly."
"Oh, that reminds me! You should ask her to go to the Ball with you!" Layla suddenly squealed as she turned from one of the dress racks and faced her best friend with a grin. Klaus only looked back at her in confusion due to her comment.
"What? She's pretty," Layla shrugged, "and she's bold. Just your type. I think you two would look cute together. You should ask her, Nik. I can even help you get her a gift, if you like. Maybe a blue princess dress-"
"Why would I ask her?" Klaus interrupted with a low voice.
"why not? You need a date, don't you?"
"I thought you would be going with me-"
"Yeah see, this dress would beautifully compliment her," Layla cut him off without noticing, "oh sorry, you were saying something?"
"Nothing, forget it," Klaus sighed as Layla looked at him with a raised brow to get it out of him.
"I was just asking...don't you need a date too?" Klaus asked in a low, hesitant voice.
"I already have one," she replied as Klaus' eyes widened in surprise, "not everyone waits till the last minute like you. I already invited Stefan."
Klaus clenched his jaw in anger at the revelation before masking it with a smirk, trying to act as if the words hadn't affected him as deeply as they really had.
"Stefan Salvatore? Come on, you know you can do better than the Ripper, Layla," he teased through gritted teach, trying to mask his jealousy.
"He's not that bad, Nik," Layla defended as she went on shuffling through the dresses on the rack, "plus, you're the one who introduced us in the 1920s, remember? We would've hit it off back then if it wasn't for Mikael showing up. Gosh, that man has awful timing."
"He isn't exactly your type," Klaus tried to point out as Layla let out a short, sarcastic laugh.
"And how would you know that?" she quizzed, "every guy who has ever gotten in a 5-mile radius of me has been scared off by you. I mean, I'm not Rebekah, you know. You don't need to be protecting me from getting my emotions hurt because I don't have any left, thanks to having spent so many years with you."
"I didn't force you to choose to stay with me, did I?" Klaus snapped angrily, "you chose that for yourself."
"And I did it because I was trying to be a good friend. Not because I wanted an overprotective bodyguard following me around 24/7," Layla fired back before closing her eyes and sighing, "look, forget it. I'm going to go try this dress on. Wait here."
And with that, she strutted off into one of the trial rooms with a red dress in her hand as the Original Hybrid was left behind feeling angry, frustrated, jealous and so much more. He knew of Layla's crush on Stefan from the day they had all met, many many years ago. When they returned to Mystic Falls, he thought she had gotten over it but to his surprise, the feelings soon resurfaced and only got stronger.
That is part of the reason why Klaus had compelled Stefan to turn off his emotions but it only lead to him getting closer to Layla as she was the only one who didn't treat him like a monster when he became emotionless again. If anything, she helped him the same way she would always help Klaus whenever their emotionless emotions got to the best of them.
Klaus was snapped out of his thoughts as he heard Layla call out for him from the dressing stall, causing him to furrow his brows as he walked closer.
"Nik, you there?" she asked again as he heard her struggle with something.
"Yes, I'm here. Is everything alright?"
"Yeah, I just...can you help me with this goddamn zipper, please?" she requested through a struggling voice as Klaus became flustered by her question.
"You...want me to come in?" he asked again, seeking clarification.
"Yes, it's not like I'm naked or anything," Layla witted, "I just can't bring this zipper up. Help me, will you?"
"Um, yeah sure," Klaus agreed hesitantly, knowing well enough that he could never say 'no' to her, especially when she said 'please'.
The curtains from the stall moved aside as Klaus looked up to lock eyes with his best friend, who looked as breathtaking as ever in a rusty-red, straight-across strapless gown. His eyes trailed over the top of the dress, that was semi see-though and hugged her curves perfectly, as if made especially for her. It followed down with a tulle skirt and a high split across the left leg, revealing her thigh to his eyes.
This was not the first time Klaus had seen her in a dress like this, but it did not make this any less breathtaking for the hybrid's hungry eyes. He could never get enough of her perfect figure and even perfectly tanned chocolate skin.
"Nik, I really don't this I can hold back this top any longer. Do you plan on helping or not?" Layla spoke, snapping him out of his trance as he realized she was holding the dress from the back, preventing it from falling off. A part of him hoped it actually would.
Klaus only grabbed her by the waist, in response, and turned her around so that her back was facing him now. The dress had a zipper running down from the top to her lower back, as it held the corset tightly against her figure perfectly.
He reached out and removed her hand from the back and took the zipper in his hand, his eyes trailing over the dip that followed across her spine and to the very end of the lower back, although he stopped his eyes from trailing any further. No matter the lustful thoughts polluting his mind, this was still his best friend and the person he loved and respected more than anyone else, and so, in his mind, he had deemed it improper to be looking.
He shook his head, trying to stop himself from having inappropriate thoughts as he sighed before beginning to brin the zipper up, his hand softly brushing against her smooth skin in the process. Klaus closed his eyes instinctively as he felt her against himself, wishing more than anything to really feel her, all of her. He wanted her and he could no longer deny it. But accepting the idea did not make it any easier.
He knew deep down that she would never see him as anything but her best friend. She loved him, there was no doubt in it but...she was in love with someone else, someone who would never be him.
"Hey, earth to Nik!" Layla exclaimed as she nudged Klaus softly, bringing him back to his sesnses again, "what is up with you? It's like your mind is elsewhere."
"Um, sorry, I was just...um, here, I'm done," Klaus cleared his throat as he let go of the zipper and took a step back, letting her see herself in the mirror.
Layla smiled at him from the mirror appreciatively before turning back to examine the dress as Klaus looked at her reflection adoringly, with a sad smile on his face.
"So, what do you think?" she finally asked him, "I don't know how I feel about the slit, honestly."
"You look breathtaking, Layla," Klaus replied with a genuine tone and gave her a reassuring smile before continuing, "and the slit, it complements the dress nicely. The dress looks good on you."
"Really?" Layla asked again in an unsure tone, "do you think Stefan will like it?"
Klaus' smile immediately faltered for a second before he regained his composure and nodded, "I'm sure he will. And he is an absolute daft if he says otherwise."
Layla let out a laugh at his words and once again, the world seemed to have stopped for Klaus Mikaelson. Her laugh was his favorite sound, had been for decades now. He could get drunk on her laughter and forget about all the worries of the world for that moment. That was the laughter he would put his life on the line for. She was the one he would put his life on the line for.
But she was not his to love, but to only admire from afar. Klaus Mikaelson could have anything he wanted...but he could not have the thing he wanted the most- her. He could have everything but her. She was someone else's to love. Her love was reserved for someone else, someone that would never be him.
"You really do look beautiful, love," Klaus spoke honestly, "you look...like a showstopper. Stefan is a lucky man, he won't be able to keep his eyes off you the entire night. I don't think the others will be either. I need to hide you from Kol," he joked, "you should...you should get this dress. This was made for you. You truly look ravishing."
"Aw thanks, Nik. That might be one of the nicest things you've ever said to me," Layla said as she stood on her tiptoes and softly kissed his cheek before smiling at him and turning back to the mirror, motioning for him to undo the zipper again, so she could get out of the dress. Klaus only offered her his best smile as he went on to help her and accept his role as the best friend...and nothing more.
Author's Note
Hii guys! Here's the first (of many) stories to come and of course, I had to make it a Klaus one! I know this is kind of sad but I was really craving to write something like this, so here it is. I promise there will be more stories soon, not just of Klaus, but also the other characters, as well. I'm currently working on a Marcel one, since that was the most requested.
Let me know what you guys thought of this one. I haven't written in so long that I'm actually scared you guys won't like the writing anymore. Some genuine criticism would be appreciated!
I missed writing so much, can't wait to get back to it, yayy!
