Chapter Three
The evening soon ended and Wanda and her parents got ready to leave. There were still quite a few guests, most of them standing around in the den, enjoying conversations about Holiday plans and whatnot. Jenna was among them, which kept her occupied so that Will could perform the courtesy of seeing the Johnsons off. He stood in the entryway while they bundled up in their winter gear, along with his mother and father. Wanda had just zipped her suede boots and realized she'd left her coat somewhere in the kitchen.
Will noticed and offered to go get it for her. Wanda told her parents to go on without her, she'd be there in a second. She stood at the threshold of the entryway as Will went off to retrieve her coat, and Mr. and Mrs. Moore rejoined their guests.
She watched the partygoers conversing and soon heard the sound of the front door open. She turned and saw Sebastian Ashburn, one of the other guests, hanging up his coat. She knew Sebastian's family but had never really talked to him that much. Wanda pointedly moved to the side of the threshold so he could pass her, but instead of rejoining the party as she assumed he would, he paused and lingered there, right in front of her.
"I hate to tell you this, but..." He trailed off, pointing upwards instead of finishing his sentence.
Wanda felt the blood rush to her face as she saw the mistletoe, hanging right there above them. She glanced quickly back into the den where some of the guests had somehow taken notice of the pair and were now watching or whispering with smirks on their faces.
Sebastian smiled boyishly.
Wanda was about to protest before he leaned forward, his lips meeting hers. A second or two later, he pulled away.
Wanda wanted to hide her face as she noticed some of the guests still watching.
"What a silly place for a mistletoe." Sebastian's voice broke into her thoughts.
"I would have to agree," Wanda said in quite a hard tone. She was offended at Sebastian's forwardness and the fact that he'd even dared to kiss her in front of all these people when they barely knew each other's names!
Her emotions of disgrace and embarrassment were amped up to a thousand when she spotted Will standing there, her coat over his arm.
He looked quite surprised, but composed himself quickly and handed it to her. No doubt he had whitnessed the whole thing.
"Thanks for coming," He said curtly with a smile. Wanda wished he wouldn't pretend this situation wasn't awkward. She'd never been so embarrassed in her life.
"Yeah, have a good evening," Wanda said hurriedly. She thanked Will for retrieving her coat, put it on and rushed out the door.
She heard someone follow after her, and turned around to see Sebastian.
"I'm getting the feeling you didn't enjoy that as much as I did." He told her, shoving his hands in his pockets against the cold.
"You are most certainly right!" Wanda stopped, facing him.
"Are you mad at me?"
"Of course I am! That was humiliating! And you act like it was funny!" Wanda stepped forward, pointing at him. "Let me tell you; kissing someone you barely know under the mistletoe in front of a huge group of people isn't a pleasant experience."
"It was for me," Sebastian gave a cheeky smile as he shrugged. Wanda scoffed in disbelief. This man had some nerve, and she didn't like it.
