Chapter Five

After her shift had ended at 6:00, Wanda needed to get some Christmas shopping done. She still hadn't bought anything for her parents or Anna. For some reason, she'd decided to buy gifts for those closest to her after all the other shopping had been done. In her mind, it made sense. Buy for those whom you feel obligated to buy for first so you can get them out of the way, then move on to the important ones. Wanda was on who people who liked having a few close friends instead of a bunch of acquaintances. Well, not so much a few as one.

Wanda arrived at the mall and hurriedly shopped around for an hour before finding a nice linen set for her mother and a sweater for her father that read; "Super-dad", along with a lego-brick mug. The combination was perfect for a wonderful, self-proclaimed geek father such as hers.

For Annie, it didn't take long for Wanda to decide on a gift card for the spa and a pair of fuzzy socks. Annie was a sucker for things like fuzzy socks, and she was definitely the type to love spa days. Satisfied with her gifts, Wanda hurried home to wrap them.

Her phone rang as soon as she was through the door, and the caller ID informed her it was her mom.

"Hey mom," She answered as she set down her shopping bags.

"Hi, Wanda. I have a favor to ask. My schedule somehow got tangled up and I won't be able to take the Christmas cookies over to the shelter. Would you mind doing it for me?" Nancy's voice was gentle as usual.

Wanda had always thought it interesting how polar opposite her parents were. Nancy was soft and meek, while Greg was hearty and friendly.

Wanda often wondered where in between the two she fell.

"Sure," Wanda replied, holding the phone to her ear with her shoulder as she opened the fridge to look for dinner options.

"You'll need to pick up the cookies at the Moore's house." Her mom said.

Wanda sighed internally, but acknowledged. Her mom hung up, and after a quick glance at the clock, Wanda decided to hold off on dinner until later.

She needed to get the cookies to the shelter in time for the Christmas party, which started at 8:00 sharp. By now it was 7:40.

Wanda took off for the Moore's, mind abuzz about what she might say it Will were to be the one to answer the door. She arrived shortly after deciding to tell him the kiss had been Sebastian's doing. That was reasonable, and surely he'd be able to understand, right?

Wanda knocked on the door, noticing the clear sky filled with billions of stars. Her breath hung in mystical clouds of fog before her lips, and the swift wind nipped her nose and ears.

"Hello," Will's silk baritone sounded as the door opened.

"Hi," Wanda felt a smile from against her cheeks simply at the sight of him. His face held a light stubble, typical for him especially at this time of year. His blue eyes held their usual sparkle.

"Come on in," he offered. Wanda gladly accepted, wanting to get away from the cold. "You're here for the Christmas cookies?" He presumed. Wanda nodded.
