Vanya's POV
"I'm never drinking again, ever." I told myself while mixing the honey in the glass of water to get rid of my hangover.
"Ugh!" Whining in pain that followed the series of few cuss words, I rubbed my temple before gulping down that glass.
"Where's it?" Rummaging through my bed sheets I looked everywhere for my phone. I thought of checking my schedule for evening classes but my phone was nowhere to be found.
Just in case I left it in his room I rushed towards the door to get it back. Reaching their compartment I realized I forgot to close their door on my way back. It was still open so I came inside. But the tension and awkwardness I felt in the air earlier, before hurrying back to my place, got even worse now.
Taehyung was standing there looking stunned as if he saw a ghost and his members seemed concerned. I could hear them saying his name but he didn't budge a bit.
Is he playing some freeze game?
From the heavy atmosphere engulfing our surroundings even I knew it was a lame thought in this kind of situation.
"Kim Taehyung." In an instant his face turned towards my direction as others also realized the familiar presence. I wasn't expecting his quick shift of attention but it was all in my best interest. Now I only had to ask for the phone and take my leave back to my place.
"You…" He spoke first. The unreadable expression on his face made me unsettled.
"Who are you?" If it wasn't for the crumbling feelings in my stomach caused by the distant tone in his voice I would have thought he was playing some kind of prank on me.
"What do you mean?" My voice didn't come out as casual as I intended too.
"Who exactly are you? That's what I mean." He ran his one hand through his hair as if trying to control his emotions and choose the right words but if he were to ask me it wasn't helping at all.
"I don't know you. Damn it. I know nothing about you, not even a single damn thing." The frustration was clear in his voice but it was not intended towards me. He looked confused rather than angry and that made him frustrated with himself.
"Isn't it too late for that, Tae?" Sarcastically commented the pale skinned guy. "Like she spent the fucking night here and now you're realising that she is a stranger to us, to you." He huffed and plopped on the couch behind him.
His words were harsh but true, even me chiming in to defend anyone would be of no use. Taehyung's expression stayed the same, unreadable and confusing but his eyes were on me all the time. He was waiting for me to answer his question.
"Someone called you-"
"Call?" I cut him off mid sentence. Before my brain could comprehend, my feet moved on their own towards him and noticing the phone in his hands I snatched it from his grip. "Don't touch my things without my permission." I couldn't conceal the anger and my voice came out rather rude. The grip around my phone tightened to stabilize my shaky hand.
"Now you're talking." He remarked on my bafflement.
"You didn't pick the call, right?" Ignoring his every word I focused on the matters that concerned me more.
"Chill guys. It's not that big of a deal." Namjoon said.
"I'm not talking to you." My eyes and tone of the voice sharpened at his interruption.
The Doe- eyed boy was about to stand up in rage but Namjoon placed his hand on the boy's chest, indicating him to back down.
"I did."
The words he casually uttered made me sick to my core. The memories I always wished to bury deep inside somewhere I couldn't ever reach but they still stayed within me, I just chose to not look at them. Those gut wrenching memories swirled in my mind, picturing every scene I wanted to forget.
The voices in my head got louder. My body felt cold and the sight in front of me started to get blurry. It felt if I took even one step I would fall into the depth of the abyss.
What kind of game life always plays with me?
"Take deep breaths." A pair of hands grabbed my shoulders and a warm voice, almost felt like my mother called out to me, cleared my sight.
"I'm sorry," He apologized, " I didn't mean this to happen. I just worry about you, that's why I'm asking." He spoke softly looking into my eyes, his own pairs showed me mixed emotions, there was rage in them, there was confusion, there was frustration but what icked was his fear. The fear I didn't wish for him to feel for me.
I removed his hands from my shoulders.
"It has nothing to do with you." I drew a line that I had been doing since our first meeting but he kept crossing it over and over.
"I hope you didn't say anything funny to them like you're doing with me." I inquired without expressing my interest in their call.
"Funny? I'm just worried. And NO. I didn't get to say anything at all." He huffed.
A sigh of relief l didn't even reach my soul properly when the boy in front dropped another bomb on me.
"What are the consequences you will face if you make mistakes? Is it related to Crystal?" He asked. My brain froze at that moment and my eyes widened with shock. The mention of my sister shook me enough to make my legs go numb.
How does he know about her? Did the old man mention her to him?
"You told us about your sister last night, remember? Is she in danger? Is there anything wrong? Can we help you in any way?" He shot too many questions at once.
At least it was me, not that man.
I put the phone in the pocket of my jeans and looked at everyone that was there in the lobby and then at Taehyung.
"As I already told you, it has nothing to do with you." I sighed, " And you have got it all wrong. I think you watch too many dramas. What's with your story? Why don't you start writing, man, you would be even more successful as a writer." I joked as an answer to all his questions.
He just stared at me with knitted brows, not giving in to my words.
"What are you saying? I just wanna help." He said.
"You wanna help? Then do me a favor, stay away from me and my matters. Why do you even care?" I scoffed.
"..." He parted his lips but couldn't utter a word.
"Well Miss. whatever you are. It's not that I care about you but you freaking stayed the night here so I just wanna make sure you are not involved with some shitty business." The pale skinned guy spoke in a monotone voice. He didn't even have to be clear about that ── care part because it was too obvious from his tone.
"As you see," He adjusted his glasses with his middle finger, "we have an image to maintain. So it's better to not be involved with shady people and their matters, oops I mean business." He mocked, giving me a tight lipped fake-smile.
The urge I suppressed from giving him a piece of my mind. I took his suspicion as an opportunity to make things clear.
"I would say you guys are really good with making up stories." I glared at that cat eyed boy before returning my attention to others.
"I'm neither involved in any shitty business nor my life is in danger. It must be my dad's call. I'm just not on good terms with my family."
I tried hard to make it sound believable while thinking of the right words to say.
"I drank too much yesterday, they must have been worried and angry because of my behavior. That's it." Some of them nodded at my statement and others didn't care much.
I looked at Taehyung while putting my hand on his shoulder and gave it a light squeeze to assure him that nothing is there to worry about.
He stared at me for a while, his eyes clearly showed me he didn't believe me, truly. He just shook his head and went back to his room, closing the door loudly behind him.
One boy came towards me with an apologetic smile on his face. "Sorry, it was all really awkward. This kinda situation never happens though." I just nodded and apologized in return.
"It was my fault too." I said and turned towards the door.
"By the way, I'm Jung Hoseok." He introduced himself with a bright smile.
His smile brought back memories of last night and my conversation with them.
Crystal. I miss you so much.
".....Mia." Gulping down the lump in my throat I said, shaking hands with him, before going back to my compartment.
*******
"Fuck." I cursed at my life while looking at the apples rolling here and there on the ground.
"So Namjoon hyung is not the only person with powers, huh?" Someone said as I turned around to look, the silver head was standing next to the elevator.
Avoiding any conversation with him, I started picking up my apples but I couldn't put them in the bag as it was already torn. His footsteps approached my direction and soon he lowered his body, matching my eye level.
"Let me help you." He offered, picking the rest of them from the ground.
"Thanks..uh…"
"Park Jimin." He said, smiling, I too smiled a bit. We both came inside my compartment as I went to the kitchen to keep the stuff. He was observing my compartment carefully.
"Mr. Park, here." I pointed at the basket and he put the apples in it.
"No need to be so formal. You can call me Jimin."
"Sure." I nodded looking at him and patiently waited for him to take his leave, but he did not budge from his place.
"You want to say something?" I asked him directly.
He raised his brow at me in amusement and went to one of the couches placed in the lobby.
"Coffee? Please." He said crossing legs while making himself comfortable on the couch.
Seriously. Do they think I'm their personal barista?
I went grocery shopping to clear my mind about the chaos that happened but didn't think I would be bumping into one of them again. At least not thought of having coffee together.
Not ruining the mood with any argument that I had enough for today, I picked up two cups from the cupboard and started making instant coffee. I handed him his cup before making my way to the balcony and he followed.
Our one hand rested on the railing and the other had coffee in it as we both awkwardly shifted our position standing next to each other. He took his first sip from the cup and my gaze stayed at him from the moment he stood beside me. Putting the cup down, he looked at me with a smug smile.
"Apart from handsome-ness, is there anything else on my face that you are staring at?" He teased me.
"N..no. It's not like that." I defended myself and averted my eyes away from him.
"Really? Then what is it like?" He asked.
"I was just thinking of some…" I trailed off. He neither said anything nor asked further questions.
We both were quiet. Quiet enough for us to hear each other's breath if we were standing close enough.
Savoring the taste of the coffee and the view in the front, for a moment I forgot the presence of the man standing next to me till the tapping sound came from his nails, as he continued to tap on the cup, made me realize I had a guest and that the person who asked for the cup of coffee didn't drink any of it after his first sip.
Even though he did not say anything, I knew exactly what was on his mind. So I broke the silence to make it easier for him.
"So you guys are musicians, right? How many years have you all been working together?"
"Seven." He replied.
"Oh! That's why you guys are very close to each other." I said, not to sound irritated with his one-word dry answer.
"Yes. We are indeed." He put the cup down and looked straight in my eyes.
"I care for them. They are my family," He continued, "I can't bear seeing them in pain."
"Good for them but why are you telling me all this?" I commented knowing well where this conversation was going.
"So that you stop. If you are going to hurt him, then you should stop. Everything has consequences." His tone contradicted his features. Never had I imagined he could sound this intimidating.
A chuckle escaped my lips, "Are you threatening me?"
"Absolutely not, but consider it a warning." He warned me before handing me his cup. "Thanks for the coffee." And he turned back to leave as I turned towards the front.
"If you don't want him to get hurt," I commanded as I saw from the corner of my eye that he stopped his steps.
"Then make sure he stays away from me."
"I will."
