Gemma reread the last text over and over but ultimately decided to leave it be, she knows she doesn't have any reason to see him anymore and she's really trying to keep it that way. The thought is there in the back of her head though.

Would she actually get closure?

Really, it's the only thing she wanted but she didn't even know what it really meant to her anymore. There were still unanswered questions that, up until now, she hadn't even thought of asking.

Were there regrets? Probably not.

Is the other girl still in the picture? Not if he's texting asking to see her.

Was there something she could've done differently? Fuck who even knows.

Gemma groaned and dropped herself face first into her pillow. Surely this actually wasn't happening? Avery would have her head if she even thought about seeing him at any point. Their relationship was a bust; a waste of time; something that shouldn't have even happened in the first place and yet, here she is thinking over every little thing again.

She lifted her head and rested her chin on her crossed forearms, hazel eyes looking directly at the songwriting journal sitting on her nightstand.

Did all the songs have to be about him?

The question bounced around her brain, hitting every nook, crevice and cranny as she tried to think of the most logical answer she could come up with. All her anger and hurt would be on display for the world to see in less than two weeks and she was starting to feel horrible about it. The shame and anxiety upturned her stomach at the thought, it's not like she regrets writing those songs, or putting them on the album. He did a bad thing and all she's doing is telling her side of the story.

But her mind wanders back to the night she cried in Josie's arms a few weeks after they broke up. It was the first time she's ever cried over a boy, first time she'd ever felt so betrayed and the first time she felt hurt enough to write songs she never thought she would write. The two of them stayed up most of the night just writing and talking about everything and then the following day, they'd all gone out to brunch as a pick me up. Josie never told the Avery or Jade what had happened the night before and Gemma had never been more grateful in her life.

She really felt like she was going to explode. How could one question lead her down a rabbit hole of emotions like this? She wasn't even going to see him and yet here she was feeling shame over songs! She didn't even name drop him, for fucks sake!

An incoming call made her phone buzz to her right and momentarily, her pitiful train of thought was broken.

Her heart skipped a beat at the sight of Matt's contact name lighting up her screen. He hadn't even told her he was going to call and it's not like they talk on the phone everyday anyway so why was he calling now? Wasn't it late in Boston? Before she could think for too long and let the call go to voicemail, she answered.

"Hey Matt, what's up?"

"Hey Gem! ahhh not much just wanted to see what you were doing?"

Gemma smiled to herself at the nervous tone his voice took.

"What? Couldn't text me or something?" Her lighthearted teasing filtered through her speakers and into his ear. She was sure he could hear her smile.

He paused for a moment, seemingly taking in what she was saying.

"Just wanted to talk to you properly, I guess"

Shame and anxiety flooded out of her body in calm waves, her heart skipped again as a small, secret smile overtook her face.
