PURPLE AND DENTAL FLOSS

CHAPTER THREE

TO SAY THAT KATHERINE SLEPT SOUNDLY that night uI would be a lie, in fact, she hardly slept at all. She found her self tossing and turning restlessly on the plush bed that Stark had put in the room well into the early hours of the morning. She had explored a bit, finding the bathroom to be too big and the closet size a bit excessive.

The room itself was a bit too big for her liking, but she wasn't complaining. The room was bare except for the bed, a tv and the desk by the window.

The window scared her, it was floor to ceiling and wall to wall and looked down upon the city, showing how high up she truly was in the tower. She found herself having nervous little butterflies in her stomach whenever she would get within five feet of it and opted to stay near the bed.

Eventually she made herself a nest on the floor, thinking that maybe the bed was just too soft, and she managed to sleep for a couple of hours.

Katherine rose with the sun, the light filling up the entire room and shining in her eyes as there weren't any curtains hanging on the window. Katherine couldn't help but feel serene and at peace for just a moment as she stared out at the skyline. She had never seen the sunrise before, and she found herself thinking that it was heavenly.

After showering and changing into the spare outfit she had (shield issued) she made the bed back the way it had been last night and sat on top of it, her feet dangling off the edge as she waited for someone to escort her to breakfast.

It was her usual morning routine.

Not even twenty minuets later a door opened and closed and footsteps came down towards the end of the hall, she quickly tied her hair into a pony tail and sat up straighter.

"Up and at 'em ki-" Clint opened the door and stuck his head into the room. "You, you're up." He gives her a smile, to which she only cocks her head at. "Have you been waiting here this entire time? You could've just come out to the kitchen.."

Katherine stared at him, did she really have such free range? She knew she was no longer at headquarters but surely the Avengers wouldn't just let her walk freely around their home. "..but wasn't the door locked?"

Clint's eyebrows furrowed. "The door locks from the inside, sweetie." He says slowly. "Why would I lock you in? This your home now."

"Oh." Katherine says, rising to her feet. She shuffled to the door and held her wrists out in front of her, waiting to be cuffed. "Aren't you going to cuff me?"

Clint looked at her as if she had two heads. "Have you done something to give me reason to?" Katherine shakes her head as if she's unsure. "Then I'm not going to handcuff you, Katherine." He pushes the door open farther and lets her walk out in front of him, just as Bucky steps out of his room.

Katherine gives him a chipper good morning, to which he only glares and stomps down the hall. "Is he just not a morning person?" She asks, turning to look at Clint. "Or is he rude in general?"

Clint steers her towards the kitchen. "Both." He answers, walking her down the hallway and across the living area. The entire Avenger's group were in the kitchen, anxiously awaiting Katherine. "Can't say I blame him though."

Moments later he lead her into the kitchen, where Natasha was arguing with Steve about what should be set where and that they probably should've just done eggs and pancakes. The Russian was nervous, this was her first time seeing the girl since she's taken her to Fury after rescuing her.

Katherine thought it was kind of funny, and that it smelled good, whatever they had made. Her breath caught though, when she set her eyes on Natasha, and then her cheeks reddened when she looked over to see a shirtless and sweaty Thor standing by the fridge. She quickly averted her eyes and looked anywhere but at him because.. well, he was a god.

Clint cleared his throat and the room quieted, everyone turning to Katherine and him. "Morning, everyone." He says with a bit of an edge to his voice.

"Morning." Steve says, patting Katherine on the shoulder as he passed to go sit at the table. The rest all said good morning as well and went to sit, Clint following suit, leaving her with Natasha.

The two girls just stared at each other for a moment, the boys in the background all yelling over each other about something that they didn't care about. Katherine didn't know what to say, or how to say it.. after all this time of dreaming about this moment she figured that maybe she would at least be able to manage a hello.

After a moment Natasha broke out into a smile and pulls the girl in for a hug that told Katherine everything she needed to know. The girl returned it with one of her own and squeezed the red head tight.

"Hope you like cinnamon rolls.." She says, gesturing to a tray of icing covered buns on the counter.

"I've never had one, actually." Katherine says, jumping and spinning around when Tony makes a noise that suggests he's dying. "..grandpa?"

"First Cheeseburgers," He says, hand over his chest, staring at her in amazement. "And now Cinnamon rolls?" Katherine looks at him comically, taking the plate that Natasha handed her. "What kind of monsters are they really? How can you deprive a child of the best things in life?"

Katherine ignored him and sat down at the last remaining seat (Natasha took hers after giving Katherine the plate), which was across from Thor. Katherine found herself asking the gods for help as she sat, looking at her plate and nothing else for she thought she might lose her marbles if she looked at the shirtless god again.

The table was silent as she took her first bite and suddenly she realized that everyone was staring at her. She looked up with, a slight dusting of red going across her cheeks, and swallowed her food. "Oh, um," She says, stammering for words as she tried to figure out when she had become so nervous around people. If this were a field mission, she would've been dead. "It's good, yeah.. I like them."

"Hallelujah!" Tony shouts as the table bursts into noise once more. Katherine continues to eat silently, staring at only her plate. She listened to Little tid bits of conversation as she ate (going back for seconds because two cinnamon rolls simply wasn't enough), her silence seeming to go unnoticed until Tony spoke up about it. "Why so quiet over there, kid?"

The entire table went quiet once more and Katherine blushed as she looked up, everyone stared at her again. "Erm.." She squirmed, looking at anyone but Thor. "I'm just.. eating.."

Tony raised an eyebrow at her, he wasn't stupid. "Mhm." He says. "What is it really?" He saw right through her.

Katherine stiffened and her face flames as her eyes nervously flit towards Thor. "Him.. he's.. shirtless and.. you know.." Everyone at the table laughed and she felt even more embarrassed.

"Never seen a guy without a shirt?" Tony teases, she glares at him and he laughs harder.

"I've seen plenty of shirtless men, Stark." She says in return, pushing her plate away. Even Thor was laughing, a deep and booming sound that scared her deeply.

"What then, too innocent?" He jokes, only for her glare to intensify, he laughs harder as do the rest of the men (even Steve) and Natasha hits his arm.

"Definitely not." She snorted, recalling the several times she'd been with her English tutor before Fury fired him after her last handler had walked in on them. The entire table shut up then, going totally silent as they all wondered how she had been able to lose her virginity with where she grew up. "He's just.. too.. perfect to look at." She says gesturing towards him with her fork. "Like jesus look at those abs! I could bounce an apple off of those things!"

"She's got a point." Natasha says as Thor eyes his stomach, he'd heard Darcy speak like that before but never quiet knew what it meant. Tony only laughed again.

MERELY AN HOUR LATER THE BRUNETTE teenager strolled around the corner and into the living area, where heads turned towards her. "What?" She asks, fidgeting with the hem of the dress Natasha had given her to wear for the day while the woman took her shopping, claiming that only having sweatpants and a T-shirt was too atrocious to have to wear everyday. "Does it look weird?" It felt weird, the tights clinging to her legs and the dress swishing around her thighs wasn't a feeling she was normally used to and she desperately wanted it off.

Clint shook his head and Natasha only grinned. "You look great, kiddo." He says, wrapping an arm around her shoulders as the leads the two out. He had decided that he would tag along on the shopping trip, Incase Natasha got over bearing (she claimed she wouldn't but sometimes she didn't have a filter).

The day was spent at a mall buying clothes and school supplies (much to Katherine's excitement) and even a few things for her room (basically everything a teenaged girl could need for her room) with Tony's credit card. And then an expensive lunch where Katherine learned that she did in fact like cheeseburgers (just not of the fast food variety) and loved strawberry cheesecake.

She felt a bit bad when she handed the black American Express card back to the man, knowing that they had wracked up a bill well into the thousands. Tony patted her on the head and sent her off to her room, where her bags were waiting on the bed and floor for her.

She worked on unpacking for hours, putting the clothes in the closest (they barely even fit a quarter of it) and the few pairs of shoes she bought by the door before she set out the things she's need for in the bathroom. She had never been able to have her own choice of shampoo before and picked up a bottle of peppermint scented shampoo and the matching conditioner, not mention dental floss and everything else she would need.

She had bought a bed set as well and stripped the clothes that were already on it off before putting on the new ones, and then hung up a few posters.

A few minuets before dinner she stood back and proudly stared at her work. It was safe to say that Katherine loved the color purple, it was what she was most drawn to whenever she would go into stores.

Everything from the bedsheets to the curtains hanging on the window were a mix of light and dark purple and she loved it. She had to rope Clint and Steve into having the curtains for her as she was still too afraid to go near the window. She had never been able to decorate her room however she wanted and after arranging her books on a bookshelf she felt quite at home.

A few moments later Tony strolled in and let out a low whistle, not expecting the room to look like this at all. He found her on the floor under the bed, seeming to be searching for something.

"Lose something?" He asks, startling her. She stood up and stared at him. "Love what you've done with the place."

"I lost my dental floss." She says, arms crossed over her chest and a pout on her face. He almost felt bad for her.

"Dental floss?" He laughed. "Are you getting upset over dental floss?"

Katherine glared at him. "I twelve different ways to kill a person with dental floss, Anthony." She says flatly, the look in her eyes telling him that she wasn't lying. "So is Shut it if I were you."
