BOARDING SCHOOL & TACOS

CHAPTER FIVE

"WHAT'S THE STORY AGAIN?" NATASAHA asks a very serious looking Katherine Nicole, the pair sat at the kitchen table across from each other, leaning towards a one another with serious looks on their faces as the men watched on.

"My name is Kat Stark," Katherine starts, staring at Natasha with a smirk, she loved the Russian but it was like she had no faith in her ability to remember things. "I've been away at boarding school in California until now because my dad wants me closer, I'm seventeen and I like books. I'm athletic but I don't play sports, and I'm shy, so I don't have any friends."

"And?" Natasha asks, causing Katherine to stare at the red head, she hadn't missed anything. Katherine's eyes squinted as she tried to think about what she possibly could've missed. Natasha's face eases into a smile, letting Katherine know that she was just messing with her. "You're going to do great today!"

Katherine grinned before checking the time on the phone she'd been given, Tony gave it to her preprogrammed with every Avengers phone number Incase of an emergency. "I'm going to be late!" She exclaims, grabbing the pure backpack off of the counter and taking the brown paper bag that Clint gave her as she ran. "Bye!"

Everyone stood and watched as the young girl ran off towards the elevator, before turning to look at each other. "Is she going to be fine?" Bucky asks, startling everyone. Nobody had realized he was there. "The kid?" He knew that she'd never been to a real school and that she probably would be overwhelmed.

Clint shrugged. "I'm sure she'll be fine." He says, patting Bucky on the shoulder. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to call my wife and kids." He says, pulling his phone out of his pocket.

"If She's Anything Like her old man," Tony smirks from behind his coffee mug, he was letting the back story go to his head just a bit. "She'll be great today."

Everyone rolled their eyes and dispersed from the kitchen, going off to do their own things until Katherine came home that afternoon.

Katherine walked through the underground parking area of Avengers tower with Happy, he was technically no longer Tony's driver but Tony had talked him into taking a little bit of time away from the company to to escort Katherine to and from school.

Happy lead her to a car that was black and sleek looking, she recognized the brand to be a BMW only because of the emblem on the front. Happy opened the rear passenger side door for her and she only looked at him before getting in the front. "I'm not a rich brat, Happy." She says as the man follows suit. "I think I can handle riding in the front with my chauffeur."

"Not your chauffeur, Miss Stark," Happy says as he starts the car. "Simply following through on a favor to Tony." He says quietly, before looking over at the teen. He squinted his eyes at her when she noticed that she wasn't buckled in. "Seat belt, now, or this car won't move."

Katherine gave him a mock salute and a yes sir before bucking her seatbelt. She felt the car lurch forward as soon as it clicked into place. "You know my name isn't actually Stark, right?" She asks, looking over at the man. "I don't actually have a last name, so everybody just calls me Katherine Nicole."

Happy glances over as he pulls out of the garage and into traffic. "Well, Miss Nicole," He says. "For all intents and purposes, your name is Kat Stark when out in public. And that's what I'll refer to you as." Happy stopped at a light and looked over at her, before reaching over abruptly and grabbing her seat belt, Katherine screamed. "It wasn't tight enough!"

The rest of the ride to school was spent in silence on her end, she listened to Happy drone on about how nobody at Stark Industries wore their I.d. Badges or payed attention to his security measures, except for Pepper. Although Pepper just listened to shut him up.

Katherine didn't mind Happy, he seemed like an okay dude to her and honestly he was quite funny when she got down to it. It didn't take too long before Happy had pulled in to the parking lot. Katherine noted that he pulled into a parking space instead of waiting to drop her off in the car line like the rest of the kids.

"What are you doing?" She asks, noticing how Happy unbuckled as well. The man simply looks at her.

"I have orders from your father to escort you onto the premises and into the office." He says, stepping out of the car, Katherine meant to follow suit but Happy stopped her. "Stay put, Miss Stark, I'll be around to get your door."

Katherine wasn't sure if he was being protective of the car because he had parked so close to another, or if this was just the rich girl way, but she stayed put and watched as Happy ran around the back and to her side, where he opened the door for her. "Thank you, Happy." She says, stepping out. She smoothed put her black jeans and white top before reaching back into grab her bag.

Happy lead her across the parking lot and onto the school grounds, people stared at her as she passed and she had a funny feeling that this would be happening a lot that day. Happy lead her into the school, opening the door for her as she stepped inside before taking his place next to her.

Katherine couldn't help but stare at her new surroundings, the lockers on the wall and the display case halfway down the hall that held several trophies and photos. She noted that floors were all wood, which meant that this was probably an old building. Happy nudges her forward and leads her to the office, where he once again opened the door for her like a gentleman.

The receptionist lady looked up from her computer and stood from her chair as the door opened, Happy walked right up to the large wrap around desk and gave her brief but friendly smile. "I'm here on behalf of Tony Stark for his daughter Kat," Happy says motioning towards Katherine, the teen looked over long enough to smile before wandering towards the far side of the room, where she could see through a window at what was going on in what looked like a gymnasium. She watched as a group of boys ran around the floor with a ball in their hands. One boy jumped and let the ball go and it went flying through the air before landing through a hoop and net. She could hear the boys all scream and group around the boy who shot, yelling about something and making it from half court.

Katherine's attention was averted away from the window when a hand waved infront of her face, she quickly turned her head towards Happy, who was looking at her with an annoyed expression. "Sorry." She mumbles, glancing back at the gym once more before looking at him.

"These are your schedule and a map to all of your classes," Happy says, placing two white sheets of paper in her hand, before holding up a pink sheet of paper. "And this is for all of your teachers to sign, and for you to bring back to the office at the end of the day." Katherine took it from him. "And this young lady over here will be showing to all of your classes."

Katherine glanced over to where he gestured and found a girl waiting for her by the door. She smiled at her, before flicking her black hair over her shoulder. Katherine glanced at Happy, suddenly nervous.

"I'll be waiting for you outside by the flag pole after school." Happy says, before placing a hand on her shoulder and squeezing it, she figured that it was meant to make her feel better. "Have a wonderful day, Miss Stark!" He calls loudly as he walks away, leaving Katherine to fend for herself.

Katherine watched him go before meekly walking over to the girl waiting for her by the same door Happy left out of, giving her a shy smile.

The girl gave her a smile back and looped her arm through Katherine's. "Don't worry," She says quietly as she leads Katherine out. "I'm still pretty new here too. I'm Logan, by the way."

Katherine looked up at her. "Kat." She says, before looking down at where the girls arm looped through hers. She wasn't used to that sort of body contact.

"I know," Logan says, before taking the schedule out of Katherine's hands. "The entire student body has been talking about you for days!" The girl went on to mention that they had the same classes, except for one period where Kat had gym and Logan had year Book.

Katherine let Logan pull her around the school, listening to her talk animatedly about various different topics, she did her best to keep the conversation topic off of her and on Logan, answering as few questions as possible and avoiding things she didn't know how to answer.

For the most part Katherine liked Logan, she was fun and kind of quirky. It was obvious that Logan didn't quiet fit in with the other kids, her clothes were a bit more worn and less new looking and the cell phone she pulled out of her pocket to check the time With was definitely not as new as hers or any of the others she'd seen people use in the halls. Katherine figured out why as soon as they walked into their first class (biology) five minuets after the bell had rung.

"You're late, Logan." Mr. Killian spoke without turning from the chalk board he was writing on.

"Sorry dad," She says a bit sheepishly before leaving Katherine to go sit down. "I was showing Kat around."

Katherine felt very on the spot as every head in the room turned to look at her, Logan's father included. The man was very rumpled looking, but well dressed for a teacher. His hair was wild and he looked as if he hadn't shaved or slept in days. The smile he gave Katherine though helped her nervousness to ebb away and she gave a small one back.

"Miss Stark," He says with a welcome smile as Katherine hands the pink slip of paper to him. "I'm afraid you're all the rage these days around campus. It's good to finally have you here in person." Katherine wasn't sure what to say and instead offers another smile. "Take your seat then."

Katherine turned to look at the students, who were still staring at her, except for Logan who was rummaging through her bag for something. The only empty seat that she noticed in the room was between Logan and a boy with dark colored hair.

She made her way quickly through the middle row of desks with her head down and sat down in the empty seat before opening her bag after Logan had nudged her and grabbing out a note book.

"Shoot," She says quietly noticing that her bag of pens and pencils wasn't in her bag, she zipped the bag shut and was about to ask Logan if she could borrow a pen when something cool tapped against her right bicep. Katherine looked over quickly to see a a black pen being held before her. "Thanks.." She whispers to the boy offering it to her.

She smiled at him and he gave her one back, she had to admit that it was a dazzling smile and she almost fainted at the sight. The boy was good looking with darker, almost tanned skin and black hair. He had brown eyes that smiled with him. Katherine noted that he was muscular through his t shirt and judging by the letterman jacket draped over his chair she figured he played some kind of sport. "I'm Zander." The boy says in a whisper. "Zander French."

"Kat Stark." Katherine replies I'm a whisper of her own before turning to face the board. She noted that the other students were copying down what Mr. Killian was writing and she started doing the same.

Katherine found her day to be rather enjoyable, she shared her classes with both Logan and Zander, who turned out to be people she found she enjoyed being around. It was fun listening to the two y'all about random things that only seemed important to teenagers, she'd become used to listening to the adults talking around Avengers tower.

Katherine found that she had no trouble throughout the day, save for awkward moment at lunch when she asked what a taco was without thinking about, and long period in gym where Katherine was suddenly the envy of all the boys and girls (except for Zander) when their teacher put them all through fitness tests.

Katherine found that she was good at all of their exercises but terrible at the sports they played when they were done. Zander had tossed a football her way at full force and Katherine put her hands up too late to catch it and wound up being hit in the throat, which cause her to lose her breath for a good few minuets.

Zander apologized profusely, his entire face turning red with embarrassment.

The day ended with Zander carrying her bag after she turned her slip into the office and said goodbye to Logan, who happily gave her a hug. The boy continued to apologize as she walked to Happy, who was waiting where he said she'd be.

Happy stared at the two, taking her bag for her before glaring at Zander as he apologized once more and said goodbye before leaving as a group of girls called to him. "He hurt you?" Happy asks, not taking his eyes off the boy.

"No happy," She says, walking to the car. "Can we get Tacos?"
