To Megan, From Dad.
On the hologram TV screen played a video of Tony Stark, who sat at his desk in the lab at the Avenger's Compound.
"Uh.. Hi. This video is to be directed to my daughter, Megan Rose Stark. Um. I.. I don't really know what to say. This is one day before we go back in time to try and get the stones and save you. It's been 5 years since I've seen your face... Heard your voice, in person. And I miss it everyday.
There are a lot of things that I have wanted to tell you for the 16 years you were alive. If you even are still alive. It is the month of April.. Not much has happened since you and Peter have..." Tony snapped his fingers.
"Anyway... The true biggest secret that I have kept from you has been since the day of Ultron... You remember when he took you, and you said he had injected something into you? I had.. I had tried for so long to push down the things he gave you by giving you those pills, because I wanted to protect you, incase the powers he gave you took control of your body. They were created to suppress the powers that Ultron implanted in you."
"What um.. What I'm trying to say is that he had tested on you for a single day and gave you a serum to powerful for your young self to control. But that is far beyond what I wanted to talk to you about... Well. Tell you."
"I never expected to have a daughter as amazing as you. You brought in a light I never knew existed in me. And that's really saying something cuz well.." Tony gestured to his arc reactor.
"I practically begged your mother to not let you go to school because I wanted to protect you and teach you more than the school ever could. I wanted to keep you safe, make sure that no one ever found out you were my daughter because I was.. I was scared that if anyone ever found out then they would come after you."
"Anyway, I have a feeling that sooner or later you are going to want to have... that talk. I made this video in the case that I would have an untimely death. But really, death at any time is untimely but... this 'time travel' thing we're going to try to pull off tomorrow has me scratching my head about the 'survivability' of it all. But that's the hero gig, right? Part of the journey is the end."
"What am I even tripping for? Everything is going to work out exactly the way it's supposed to. We will get the stones, get you back... Destroy Thanos... and live happily ever after." Tony smiled, trying to reassure himself that everything will be okay.
"Megan, this world is full of dangerous people and things that I can not even begin to tell you about. But you have your mom, Peter, the Avengers.... And me. You have the mostly powerful people on the planet by your side. They can guide you and teach you how to use your powers. They can tell you that everything will be okay. They will cry with you, mourn with you, laugh with you. But the most important thing is that they will always be there for you when I can't."
"I was hoping I would never have to make a video like this, because I hoped I would live a fulfilling life, watch you graduate, fall in love, get married, and start a family. I wanted to watch as we all grew old together. I wanted to watch my grandkids grow up knowing their grandpa was a genius billionaire playboy philanthropist." Tony chuckled, leaning back in his chair. He looked away off screen, grabbing a picture frame."
"I never wanted you to grow up without a dad. But not everything goes your way. You will have setbacks. You will lose people you care about. That's just how the hero game works."
"You will have people out to make your life a living hell, and you have to push through it. You have to fight through the pain they bring you until your dying breath. Like Steve would say to Bucky... 'ill be with you till the end of the line' or something like that."
"If I could give anything to have at least an hour with you again..." Tony said under his breath as he stared at the photo, revealing it to the camera to be a picture of him and Megan as a baby.
"I can't even remember when this photo was taken. But I would kill to have it happen again." Tony smiled painfully, setting the frame down.
"T'Challa once said 'In my culture, death is not the end.' And I believe that. But I also believe that when we die, we will see each other again. So... I have a hard drive hidden somewhere in the Compound. It contains everything you need to know about your powers, how to create your own suit, and videos of me and you. I video taped as much as I could for the 5 years you have been gone."
"So when you find that hard drive, if you ever miss me, just plug it into your computer and binge watch how amazing I was." Tony said with a quiet chuckle.
"I know this seems to be short, but I have to get ready.. Gotta bring you all back and stuff." Tony looked at the camera, removing his glasses as he leaned forward, a small smile on his face.
"Tell Peter I said hello, will you?" He winked into the camera.
"I love you 3000." He raised his hand over the camera lens, the footage going dark as it stopped.
Megan stood in the middle of her room, staring at the blank screen with a weak and sad smile.
"I love you 3000." She said quietly, completely turning off the tv as she turned around, smiling at the new Iron-Man mural on her wall.
