Alternate Reality where Peter tells Megan he likes her. (Before they found out about each other)

Peter walked down the empty hallway with his best friend, Ned Leeds, as he asked more questions.

"Do you think that the spider might actually be alive? I mean you may think it's dead but what if it was faking?" Ned asked as Peter groaned.

"Ned, the spider died. It won't bite you." He said firmly as Megan turned a corner, frowning at them.

"Why are you guys talking about dead spiders? Those things are nasty." She said, holding an open chemistry book. She closed it gently as she looked at Ned, who turned white.

"Uh.. um. Yeah I gotta go-" Ned mumbled, bolting out of the hallway, leaving Peter.

"Oh. Um... Class project. Had this thing with spiders... Ned got scared and killed it." Peter blatantly lied, blushing hard.

Megan's lips turned into an upside down 'U' as her brows rose, seeming to buy the lie. "So Peter, I was thinking that I could use your help for homecoming. Liz wants to wear this giant blue dress, but I was thinking she could go with a short like red flower lace one?" Megan said as she pulled out her phone, showing the picture of the dress to Peter.

He shrugged, nodding. "I-I think she would look nice in it." Megan sighed as she nodded, a smile forming on her lips as she looked again at the dress.

"Uh... what will.. what will you be wearing?" Peter asked nervously as Megan smiled, biting her tongue as she scrolled through her camera roll, finding her dress.

"Wow... that's.. that's a really pretty dress." Peter said quietly. "You'd look great in it." He smiled as she grinned.

She twitched her head as a gesture for them to walk the empty school. As they did, Peter and Megan's hand barely grazed one another's, Peter blushing as red as a tomato as Megan thought nothing of it.

"Hey uh... Megan?" Peter said as he put his hands in his pockets. Megan looked up at Peter, a small smile on her face.

"C-Can I tell you something?" He asked as she nodded. They stopped in the hallway, turning to fave one another.

"Megan I..." he trailed off for a moment, squinting. "I really- like you." He said quickly, watching as her eyes widened in shock.

"Peter..." she said quietly, her eyes turning from shock to somber as she shook her head slightly. "I-I like you too..." Peter's eyes widened in hope before he furrowed his brows, his heart breaking a little.

"But I can't be with you..." Megan continued quietly.

"W-what?" Peter mumbled as his eyes watered, barely as he gave her a puppy-eyes look.

"There are... So many reasons why I would say yes to be with you.. But there's one reason why I can't. And that reason is a reason I can't tell you.." she sniffed for a moment.

"I-I'm sorry I have to go-" she said, quickly leaving out the front doors. Peter watched her leave, his heart breaking even more. He looked down at his feet, slowly trekking out of the school.

He walked into an alleyway, taking off his clothes quickly as he changed to his spider-suit.
