Chapter 3: "New girl"
Hey, half of this chapter got deleted and I had to rewrite it. I'm not very satisfied as this is not nearly as good as the deleted thing and is not what I had planned. I'm really sad that this part was deleted and that this is now a rushed chapter, which I'm not happy with it, but I hope you'll enjoy it anyways :)
//
I had been waiting for Harry for at least 10 minutes in front of this skating rink we always go to. He's always late, yet I had never in the 17 years of knowing each other grown accustomed to it. It's kind of our thing. At least four times a month we skated across the shiny wooden floor in the small gymnasium the rink is located in. While I was waiting for "Mr Always Late", a couple walked past me and approached the door. They looked like they're newly in love. I had never really been in love (only with food). They opened the door and the familiar scent of rubber and popcorn hit me. I took a deep breath in through my nose and smiled when all the memories of Harry and I in the gym popped up - although it had only been 4 days since we were there last. Not many people used the rink as it's a small and not very liked place in our town. Harry and I loved it though.
"Boo!" Harry yelled, ripping me out of my thoughts. I jumped and then turned around to hit him, but as always he was faster and caught my wrist before it hit. His big, smug smile annoyed me.
"Let go of my wrist already." I said annoyed and shook my hand. He slowly let go of it while his self-satisfied smile turned to a laugh. "You know you can't just scare me like that! I'm gonna end up having a real real heart attack." I added. Harry then started to laugh even more in a contagious way, I started to laugh a little as well. "Remember when-" He started without finishing his sentence as we both started to laugh even more, well-knowing what he was gonna say.
We had been standing there for a couple of minutes saying single words and just dying from laughter over and over again. People walking by must've think we were crazy, but we didn't care about what other people thought of us. We were living in the moment. Also.. we were kinda crazy.
"Shall we go in?" Harry said stuttering as he's still laughing a little. I took his hand and pulled him into the gym with me.
——
I knocked on the Holland's front door. Usually, I just walk in, but I knew how lazy Harry can be and I knew how much he hated to walk all the way down stairs to open the door.
Harry and I are laughing hysterically as someone unexpectedly starts to knock at the door. Harry and I sit up straight away and look each other in the eyes, wondering who it may be. It's almost 8 pm, we're eating pizza and watching our favorite movie "Ace Venture: When nature calls" and we aren't expecting anyone.
"Tom go open." Harry yells. The movie is still playing and as Ace Ventura starts escaping the rhino through its arsehole we laugh and lean backwards to continue enjoying the movie. The person outside the door wouldn't let us though and knocks again.
"Thomas go open the door for fucks sake." Harry repeat himself annoyed. Tom never listens to his younger brother. Consequently Harry looks at me with puppy eyes and starts blinking like a crazy.
"Forget it you." I chuckle and shove his head the other way.
"Pleaseee." Harry begs and pauses the movie. I shake my head and start the movie again.
"Please my legs are so tired after the walk home from school. Also I had gym class today. Coach made us run 10 laps." Harry tries to convince me. He's such a fool. He knows I'm stubborn as hell and I'm gonna get it my way, but that doesn't prevent him from trying.
"Um no. You are literally the laziest person I've ever known. It's YOUR house, YOU can go down stairs and greet YOUR guest." I reply and give him a push out of the bed. He pouts and stamps slowly out the door.
"I hate you so much for this." He huffs as he very slowly walks towards the stairs, in hope that I will change my mind and open the door for him. He quickly realizes that I won't get up and he then hurries down the stairs to open the door and up the stairs again.
"Took you a while." I said and laughed as the door opened. Oh shit. It wasn't my best friend, which I expected to be annoyed who had opened the door - it was his brother. He was standing in the doorway in only shorts looking at me with small eyes. He yawned and his abs showed as he stretched.
"Yeah, I was sleeping. And you woke me." Tom replied and rubbed his eyes. It was 4pm by then - how had I just woken him up?
"Um yeah- I- it's- um- sorry." I stuttered and smiled awkwardly. "Why you always gotta be so awkward?" Harry said, splashing water at me and then dying from laughter. Why was I always so awkward? He returned the smile, but with a quizzical face and then turned around and walked towards the couch.
"Harry is upstairs." Dominic then said. I looked away from Tom and noticed Dominic sitting at the counter in the kitchen with his back turned against me. Dominic was the Holland's father. He was rarely home and I didn't know him that well, but he seemed sweet.
"Thank you Mr Holland." I said realizing I'm still standing in the doorway and then quickly went inside and closed the door. I had never really talked to Dominic before - merely a few words here and there. Tom let out a chuckle.
"Please don't call me that. Call me Dominic." He replied and turned around to grant me a smile. A warm smile. I returned the smile, gave Tom a look and then made my way upstairs to Harry's room.
——
I reached over Harry to grab the remote control and turned up the volume. Tom's party had started downstairs and the music was quite loud - not to talk about the singing. They had been there for not more than an hour, yet they sang like they were totally wasted. It's not possible to get drunk in an hour right? I had never been drunk before so who was I to know? Harry groaned as his stomach churned.
"Didn't you buy any chips? I gave you 2 whole fucking hours Harold." I questioned turning my head to look at him. After the skating I had gotten home and taken a shower to let Harry shop snacks for the night and of course he had forgot it. He sat up and grabbed the remote control from my hand to pause the TV. I sat up and smacked Harry on the back of his head and smiled. I didn't need a response from him to know the answer, especially not when he was avoiding my eyes.
"What did you do in those two hours then?" I inquired frustrated with my arms crossing, but with a grin. I just knew he had been sleeping. He rubbed the sore spot on the back of his head as he turned around to face me. He then smiled apologetic as he got off of the bed. Without saying anything, he rubbed his belly, pointed to the door and slowly walked towards it to sign that he's gonna go get some.
"Go you idiot." I said with a grin and leaned backwards onto the pillows again.
"Sorry. I'll be back in 20 minutes. I promise I'll-" His voice got drowned by the noise from the party as he ran down the stairs. That boy must've be really hungry as he was running and not crawling down those stairs.
"What a dork." I said under my breath and smiled, when I thought about him actually running.
——
I walked over to the windowsill, looking down at the people having fun. A guy was swimming in the pool with his clothes on. He must've been pushed in as he flipped the group of people laughing on the patio off. I felt kind of bored and I was getting curious of what's happening down stairs. I agreed with myself that I quickly was gonna go down and grab a glass of water. I was also getting thirsty so that was a great idea.
I walked slowly down the stairs, rethinking my decision of going down there for every step I took. A guy walked past me and the scent of sweat and alcohol hit me and made me gag. I pulled myself together and quickly continued down the stairs. I squeezed through the people on the dance floor, making my way to the kitchen. Some sweaty guy didn't even realize that he had spilt some of his drink on me, but I just grunted and kept on walking. In the kitchen I was looking for the stool which normally was placed in the corner. Nikki and I weren't that tall, and we were having a hard time reaching the top shelves, which strangely enough was where all the dinner sets was. Usually Harry grabbed the glasses and stuff when we were thirsty, but now that he wasn't there I needed that stool. It was nowhere to be seen though. I couldn't find it. I turned around and saw a tall guy standing just behind me. I asked him politely if he wanted to help me get a cup. He grabbed a cup and reached it to me, but as I tried to take it, he wouldn't let go of it.
"First, give me a kiss." He said and pointed to his cheek. I was shocked by what he just said.
"Can I just please get the cup, thank you." I replied patiently. He kept his grip on the cup and pointed to his cheek again. Offended, I snorted and walked away. What a moron. I had had enough of this. A party clearly wasn't my thing. I headed out of the kitchen and towards the stairs when a familiar voice called my name.
"Y/N, what are you doing down here? Where is Harry?" The voice questioned. I turned around and saw Tom sitting in a couch surrounded by a group of foreign faces. I approached the group of people.
"Why do you care?" I said and surprise myself by my attitude, "Sorry, he's out buying some snacks." I added not to appear mean. I felt all the eyes glancing at me while I'm standing there in my sweats and t-shirt.
"Hey, what's your name?" I turned my head to face the foreign blonde boy who had asked me. I was just about to answer as Tom interrupted me;
"She's Y/N." He turned to face me, "Now Y/N, go upstairs and continue doing whatever you were doing." He then demanded. Who did he think he was? He literally never talked to me, and now he told me what to do?
"Um no. Why would I do that?" I questioned with raised eyebrows.
"Cause I told you to." Tom replied, clearly annoyed.
"Well, you're not my parent." I looked at him with a peeved face and my arms crossing.
"Why have you never introduced us to her? Wanna sit down and play truth or dare with us Y/N?" The blonde boy said to lighten up the tension and padded on a free spot in the couch next to him.
"No she won't." Tom said quicker than I even got to decide for myself if I wanted to. He's actually right, I didn't really want to sit and hang with people I didn't know. I was already out of my comfort zone being down there. The eyes were still looking at me and I really hated the attention. I wanted to go, but Tom made me angry right there and I wouldn't let him think he had the power to tell me what to do.
"Yes she will." I said, smiled at the blonde boy and sat down next to him.
"Uhhh, I like her." The blonde boy said facing Tom who rolled his eyes and then turned to me, "I'm Harrison by the way."
I smiled at Harrison and then looked down and fiddled with my stained t-shirt. My stomach turned. The eyes were making me very uncomfortable and I felt like the black sheep. I looked up and saw a girl reaching me a cup with something in it. Tailor. It's not until now, that I had realized Tailor and Mckenna were there. They're sitting across from me.
"Here, drink." She said. I politely declined the cup, but of course she didn't give up that easily and forced the drink in my hand.
"You don't drink?" She said with a complacent laugh, as if it's embarrassing not to drink. As much as I hate to say it, I felt embarrassed as I nodded no. Tailor then leaned backwards and laughed as she whispered something to Mckenna, making her laugh as well. I really wanted to say something to Tailor, but my shyness and lack of courage kept me from saying anything.
I looked at the liquid in the cup and considered taking a sip of it. I placed the cup in front of my nose to smell the drink. The group around me then started to cheer, "DRINK, DRINK, DRINK." I caved in and placed my lips on the cup and took a sip. The bittersweet taste of beer met my mouth for the first time and made me want to throw up, but as, "DRINK" turned into, "CHUG" I got motivated and the sickening liquor streamed down my throat and my eyes were watering. As I had finished the drink and moved the cup from my mouth people started cheering and clapping their hands. I rubbed my eyes and looked at Tailor with a smug smile. She rolled her eyes and looked at Mckenna who's laughing and clapping as the others, but quickly stopped as she saw Tailor's harsh "not funny Mckenna" look.
After a few minutes of the group asking each other truths and dares, Harrison turned to me, "Y/N, new girl. What do you pick? Truth or dare?" My heart skipped a beat as I realized it's my time to do something I definitely didn't want to. Up until then I had sat quietly by myself hoping not to get asked as the truths and dares were way too much for me. But it's Harrison who had asked, and he seemed to be a great guy, so I wasn't that scared.
"Truth." I said. Tailor snorted. This girl was driving me nuts. I turned to face her.
"What now? If you've really got a problem with me, why don't you just say it to my face instead of being as childish as you've always been." I said, giving her just what she wanted - a reaction.
"You just keep proving how boring you are." She said, not bothered by my "insult". I wanted to punch her in the face so bad. I hated her.
"Tailor." Harrison said, trying to calm her down. She rolled her eyes and Mckenna as well. I took a deep breath and turned to face Harrison and granted him a smile.
"I'll pick dare."
"Are you sure about this?" He whispered, making me nervous as it sounded like a question about life or death. I forced a smile and nodded.
"Excellent! Um.." He said looking around, trying to come up with a good dare, "I got it! I dare you to kiss Tom." Harrison said, making me feel dizzy. Kiss Tom? My best friends brother? What the fuck was he doing. I looked over at Tom and our eyes lock. My head emptied and I had no clue what to do with myself. Tom got up and slowly walked towards me. I could hear Tailor and Mckenna giggle in the back. They're probably pleased with me being frozen and looking like an idiot. As Tom now stood in front of me, I got up, gave Harrison a disappointed look, turned around and ran upstairs. There's no way I was gonna kiss my best friend's brother.
——
As I got upstairs I threw myself on Harry's bed and pulled out my phone from my pocket. It had been 40 minutes since Harry left. It's weird he wasn't back yet, but he's a slow guy. I sent him a text, turned off my phone and then rested my head on my arms. I was still trying to comprehend the things that had just happened. Was Tom really about to kiss me? The door behind me creaked and I let out a sigh.
"Finally. Where have you been? I was just about to-" I said turning around and stopped talking as my eyes unexpectedly didn't meet Harry's, but his.
