8. Hanging Out

*Y/n*

While I focused on the novel in my hands, I felt the left side of the couch sink down. It was Taehyung. It was also the weekend, so seeing Tae here didn't really surprise me. I waved a hand, mouthing 'hello' and he greeted me back with an additional smile. It was usually when Taehyung had something important to say, he would sneak over to my place.

Out of my peripheral vision, I could see Taehyung pause and look around the room in surprise as he wasn't seeing what he was used to. I could tell that he's noticed the absence of my father and was questioning it by the look on his face.

"I don't see father," he says when I turn to him. "Did something happen?"

I close my book and shrugged. I wasn't in a talking mood so I shook my head hoping that Taehyung wouldn't push it.

"Are you here to hang?" I ask.

To my surprise, Taehyung shakes his head and answers,"I want to check in to see how everything's going,"

I sighed.

I don't feel like communicating to anyone today...

Taehyung always tries to make me speak verbally and doesn't like signing, which is why I purposely avoid speaking. Right now , Taehyung is giving one of those looks; the ones that are pleading for verbal communication and are sick of using hand gestures to talk. I knew that look very well, and couldn't resist giving in.

"Fine. Be specific."

"What happened yesterday?" Tae asks. "And speak out loud, please." He adds while pushing his lips out, forming a small little pout.

Huffing, I take a moment to find the words to say. I somewhat did not want Tae to know about the incident yesterday but finding a lie that could deceive him wasn't easy too. My bandages were obviously visible and news on what happened can move fairly quickly in a college campus.

I'm sure it's better to come clean.

"Jungkook helped me with classes. We talked after school and I went home."

Short and straight to the point. I only left out the fight just because it isn't something that needed to remember. I needed it to be forgotten and to never happen again. Taehyung should probably know about it before he came here anyways.

Taehyung nods but keeps a hard expression on his face and I stay silent, waiting for him to do something.

*cue the cricket noises*

I clear my throat and nudge his shoulder, trying to break whatever trance he was in. Taehyung finally snaps back to reality and quickly apologizes when he sees my confused expression.

"Do you have anything planned for today, Y/n?"

He knew this question was out of place, and I knew it too.

"Nu— no," I reply, frowning at my slight mispronunciation.

The air wasn't as awkward as before and Taehyung starts to turn into his normal self again. He smiles a boxy smile and fakes a surprised reaction. I silently laugh, knowing that he was going to request hanging out.

Taehyung starts speaking really fast and slurring his words, going on about what I'm assuming was what he wanted to do, unaware of the disability I have.

"Um... Tae,"

"Oh, r-right. I was saying we should hang out again, and maybe invite Jungkook too."

Invite Jungkook?

I didn't mind but it really did surprise me when he said it.

"What are we going to do though?" I ask.

"Talk. We can eat too. Besides, Jungkook wants to know you better," Taehyung says.

I smiled to myself. It's been a long time since I've hanged out with real friends before.

"I'll call him okay?" Taehyung reaches for his phone and pulls up his contacts. I nodded and curiously leaned over his shoulders to possibly sneak a peek of Jungkook's number.

Today was going better than I thought.

....................................

"Hey, Hyung," Jungkook greets Taehyung as he steps inside the living room. "Oh, hey Y/n!" A smile shows on his face and he waves a hand at me as I greet him back.

It was my first time having more than one person in my home, and it didn't seem so bad so far. Jungkook sits down besides Tae and we all enjoying the chips and salsa that I brought out before. Taehyung kept on insisting that I bring out something to eat, and although I couldn't hear his whines, they still annoyed the shit out of me so I had to fulfill his wishes to make him stop.

"Guys, let's talk," Taehyung blurts out after the long silence before. Neither of us spoke, so he spoke up again.

"Jungkook, you first. How is the tutoring going?" Taehyung speaks at a slower pace for me which I was thankful for.

What I always liked about Taehyung is that he would make sure I was comfortable in any situation, and would try his best to help in any way he could. It was also the personality that made me open up to him.

I shifted my gaze to Jungkook to catch what he was going to say.

"It's been going well for the first few days. I explained and helped Y/n along the way when there were hard topics."

Jungkook glances at me with a smile and I feel myself wanting to curl up into a ball. He would always smile like that for no particular reason, and it often messes with my emotions.

Breaking eye contact, Jungkook reaches for another chip and munches on it, pretending that he did not just look like a total flirt at the moment.

Taehyung was satisfied with Jungkook's answer and now turns to me, unaware of what his best friend just did.

"Y/n, Jungkook wanted to know more about you. He was talking about it to me the other day." Taehyung says.

I curiously glance Jungkook to see his reaction, feeling slightly flustered because of what Tae said. The moment my eyes meet Jungkook, he turns and reaches for more of the chips, munching away as he stares elsewhere, pretending to ignore the fact that Taehyung had basically exposed him.

"Okay...?" I expected Taehyung to continue speaking, but instead, he stands up and moves towards Jungkook, literally shoving him towards me and then sitting back down on the other side. That surprised the both of us. I didn't know what Taehyung's intentions were, but if it was to make things more awkward, I had guessed correctly.

Jungkook was now sandwiched between me and Tae, it was silent once again, and this was when Taehyung lost it.

"Can you guys PLEASE say something? Stop making this awkward! The reason I wanted Jungkook to come over was so you two could learn more about each other and hang out!" Taehyung yells out in annoyance. I had managed to read his lips just in time before he slumps down on the couch and crosses his arms.

Oh. That's what he was trying to do.

Who's going first?

As an introverted, deaf, and shy person, I wanted Jungkook to share something first, but it didn't look like he was going to say anything anytime soon.

"I'll share something only if you start first," I deadpanned.

Jungkook smiles and nods as Taehyung was now sticking his head out to oberve the conversation.

"I'm friends with an employee at a cafe. I go there really often so that's how I met him. I like drawing and singing and learning different languages too."

Smiling, I take in the information and try to think of a few things about myself to share. I thought it would be easier but the things about me were mostly negative. There weren't much good things I could say about myself, which frustrates me a bit.

"I like..."

What the hell do I say?
