Chapter 20: His Quiet Kindness
♛┈⛧┈┈•༶
Y/N heaved out a sigh of contentment as she stepped out of the luxurious bathroom . She had been tired after that unexpected accident earlier that day. Taking a warm shower indeed worked in soothing her nerves.
With a little difficulty, she adjusted her loose pyjama shirt so that she was looking presentable. Her hair was damp from the shower. She tried to tie it into a loose ponytail but... was it even possible with a single hand? Heck no.
She huffed, annoyed. She knew she had no other choice but to go to Jungkook to ask him for help.
She stepped out of the living room — apparently, her new bedroom — and slowly walked downstairs. She tilted her head, looking for Jungkook but then...
Chop. Chop. Sizzle.
Her ears perked up in curiosity. She furrowed her eyebrows. Someone's... cooking?
She slowly, carefully tiptoed to the kitchen, peeping to see who was it. And she froze mid-step at the sight before her.
Jungkook?! He's cooking?!
She almost gasped. He was in his casuals — a black, loose t-shirt and gray sweatpants. His hair was slightly damp. He didn't see her at first, nor did he hear her thoughts. He was too focused in cooking. His hands moved automatically, as he chopped vegetables, cracked eggs, and fried them. Cooking was one of the rare moments when he didn't overthink about his past.
Y/N stared at him dumbfounded. She blinked, as if she was questioning herself if it was even real. "You... cook?" she finally voiced it out, her voice laced with surprise and confusion.
Jungkook momentarily looked at her and then snorted, "Yeah? What did you think? I survive just on air?"
She rolled her eyes in annoyance. His rude attitude always managed to get on her nerves. She replied with sarcasm, "Yes, I did. Aren't you a bloodsucker?"
He glared at her. He hated it. He hated it when anyone called him that. Especially when being a vampire, he never actually had sucked anyone's blood.
He snapped, "Mind your words, miss brat. Or else, I'll just let you starve."
She smirked, feeling triumphant at getting onto his nerves. She remained quiet for a moment, watching as he plated the food delicately. The golden hue of the omelette, the freshly cooked rice with vegetables... It smelled divine. She could feel her stomach rumble.
Jungkook walked over to the dining table and placed the food. He turned to look at her and was amused by her gawking. He smirked, "What's up, babygirl? Too hungry?" he mocked.
Her cheeks flushed red at being caught red handed. She shook her head, "Oh, no! It's not that... I just-"
His smirk grew wider, "Liar." He motioned towards the table, "Sit and eat up."
She was about to sit but then she recalled the real purpose why she came to him in the first place. She cleared her throat, "Hey..."
He looked up at her, raising his pierced eyebrow, "Yeah?"
"Can you tie... my hair? I ain't able to do it with just one hand...," she asked for help, slightly feeling embarrassed.
He sighed and got up, walking over to her. "Give me the hair tie."
Jungkook swallowed hard, feeling a twinge of hesitation and nervousness that he wanted to hide. He had never tied a girl's hair before. And he didn't know how to. But what could he possibly do now?
Sucking in a deep breath, he slowly, carefully hooked his fingers in her silky, brown hair, twisting some stands between his fingers. He slowly hooked his other hand into the scrunchie and gently wrapped it around her hair. He made two loops and tightened her hair securely.
"There...," he stepped back to take a look at her hair, "Is it good?"
Y/N reached out to touch her ponytail and smiled, "Thank you."
He merely nodded and sat down again, to feast upon his dinner. She hesitated for a moment but then, slowly sat down to feast on her own food.
As soon as she tasted it, the food melted in her mouth. She closed her eyes shut for a moment, savouring the taste and moaned, "Oh! So good!"
Jungkook glanced at her. A playful smirk decorated his lips as he licked his lip ring. He chuckled, "I have heard that sound before..."
Y/N's cheeks flushed beet red at his remark. She knew it exactly what he was implying to. It almost made her choke on her own food. She glared at him, "Shut up."
He just shrugged and began gobbling down his food, his smirk never leaving his face.

The next morning.
Y/N stirred awake when the golden rays of the sun beamed on her face, slipping through the sheer curtains. She grunted and looked around.
Damn... It's not my room...?
Realisation struck her when she recalled that she had moved into Jungkook's mansion the previous day. She coughed and her cheeks flushed red. She slowly got out of the bed, carefully adjusting her wounded arm.
She rubbed her eyes with her free arm, yawning as she walked out of her room and into the hallway. Strangely... the house was empty. Her eyes widened slightly as she looked around.
"Jungkook...?" she called out, but there was no response.
She sighed and padded to the kitchen, but it was empty too. But there was one difference... There was food on the shelf.
Her ears perked up hearing the slamming of a door and a set of footsteps coming downstairs. She snapped her head and there he was.
Dressed in a crisp black suit, linen slacks and polished formal shoes, his silver Rolex watch complementing his outfit, he hurried downstairs. The CEO facade was back.
"Jungkoo-"
He didn't glance at her once. He turned to the fridge and placed a glass bowl on the middle shelf. He looked at her with a piercing gaze, "That's lunch. Microwave's there," he pointed at the microwave, "I don't use it. But you can."
Saying that he turned and picked up his bag from the couch and walked ahead to leave. Before stepping out, he glanced at her one last time, "Have breakfast and lunch on time. Your medicines too," he said with an emotionless face. He glanced at his watch, "Call me if it's important. Don't bother unnecessarily."
The maindoor slammed shut, leaving her alone in that huge mansion. She couldn't help but grin foolishly.
Damn... He actually cared?!

Time flew by.
After having the delicious lunch Jungkook had prepared himself for her, Y/N laid on the huge bed for hours. She scrolled through her entire feed, texted a few friends, called her mom, even napped for a while. But nothing worked. Time didn't seem to pass.
She huffed, sitting up. She even tried reading a few books she had brought with her. But no. It was too boring. The mansion was dead silent. Even the tick of the clock seemed to echo in the stillness.
She lazily walked downstairs, her gaze drifting to the kitchen. Oh come on... I don't want to appear like a food monster to him, emptying his fridge. She snorted to herself.
Her gaze landed on the huge T. V., mounted on the opposite wall, sleek and black like everything else in Jungkook's mansion. With multiple remotes and a setup that looked like an airplane's cockpit, she gave up after her third try.
She slumped onto the couch, huffing, "This is pure torture!"
She pouted and tossed and turned on the couch. The boredom was killing her. Suddenly, Jungkook's words rang her mind.
"Call me if it's important. Don't bother unnecessarily."
She sighed and picked up her phone. Should I... call him? She rethought her decision. Huh, it's important too! She snorted mentally and dialed his number.

"Goddamn it!"
Jungkook huffed, exhausted, as he ran his fingers through his hair roughly. He was tired from signing files all day, since the morning.
"Sir...," his secretary, Christopher, sighed, "Just a few more..."
Jungkook glared at him but didn't say anything. Suddenly, his phone buzzed in his pocket. He groaned and picked it up, without looking at the ID, "What?!"
"Jungkook...," Y/N muttered his name nervously, guessing his mood was off.
Jungkook sighed, "Oh, it's you... bitch. What is it?" He silently gestured Christopher to leave for a minute. He obeyed him instantly.
"I'm bored out of my mind!" Y/N whined, "And your huge mansion, it's dead silent! Your TV... has like five damn remotes!!"
"Yeah, so?" Jungkook scoffed.
"What do you mean by 'yeah, so?'" she whined again, "I'm in your home!"
"I know that," he replied coldly. A small pause followed their conversation. Jungkook sighed shortly after, "The silver remote. It's the one. Press the 'HOME' button. The system loads automatically."
"Okay-"
"Don't touch anything other than that," he said sternly, "You'll accidentally activate the security system or buy a movie costing around $200."
She gasped, "What?! What kind of movies cost that much?!"
Jungkook snorted, with a chuckle, "Exactly. So, don't touch anything."
"Okay, sir," she teased him.
"Don't dare mock me," he said coldly, "and...," he paused.
"And?" she asked curiously.
"Take care... yeah...Take care," he said, his voice unusually soft.
She chuckled, "Thank-"
Before she could complete her words, he hung up. "Asshole...," Y/N sighed, "Why are you so confusing?!"

The main door clicked open and the sound of steady footsteps echoed through the hallway. Y/N yawned sleepily and leaned her head to peek from the couch. "Oww, welcome boss," she greeted him with a foolish grin.
Jungkook rolled his eyes, a small smirk playing on his lips. He loosened his tie with one hand, his hair disheveled and his body sweaty. He huffed out, "Did you blow up anything?" he asked sarcastically.
"Oh shut up," she scoffed.
He chuckled and without another word, disappeared upstairs. After a while, he came downstairs in a plain black shirt clinging to his toned body, and grey sweatpants instead of his formal pants. His hair was damp and messy.
"We need to talk," he said suddenly.
"About-" she was about to ask, curious about what it was.
"About work," he interrupted her and sat beside her on the couch.
Y/N swallowed and nodded. "About work...," she mumbled, "What about it?" She was feeling worried now. Will he fire me?
"You're injured," he said, leaning on the couch, "You can't work like this."
Her eyes widened. She tried defending herself, "I... I'm injured but I'll get better soo-"
He chuckled, smirking, "I'm not firing you, fool. I just need an application to show a valid reason to the other employees about your disappearance."
She let out a sigh of relief at his words. Phew... At least my job is saved!
"Just write an application. I'll handle the rest," he glanced at her wounded hand, "You can at least type on your laptop with one hand, right?"
She nodded. He nodded back, "Good then."
There was a moment of silence before Y/N broke it, "Thank you... Jungkook."
Jungkook didn't respond. He just stared at the T. V. She expected him to say something sarcastic. But he just replied nonchalantly, "Welcome."
He got up and walked to the kitchen, humming a tune. She stared at his back. She chuckled softly, as she watched him cook something.
You're not as heartless... as you pretend to be.
