"Miyeon - it's an emergency." Jugyeong's voice had a hint of alarm to it, but was hushed as the Hwang girl picked up the phone.
"Mhm. And why is that?" Miyeon was much calmer than usual, and her mind was so at ease that not even those words could wake her up out of it. She was balancing her phone between her shoulder and her ear, painting the nails of her right hand with her left. It was a pale pink colour, vaguely matching the pink of the scrunchie Soojin gave her.
"Lee Suho and Han Seojun are in my living room! Making dumplings!" Jugyeong hissed, still just as quiet and urgent. "And they're really competitive and it's horrendous and Juyoung hates Seojun for some reason and my mom loves them both!"
"Sounds.. actually awful gosh." Miyeon forced herself to sit up, blowing on her nails and placing the polish down on the table in front of her, reaching for the remote control and pausing her show.
"My mom keeps talking about how they're handsome and she said you're pretty and Juyoung spilt water on Seojun's lap and they voted for who they want me to end up with!" Jugyeong was become more panicked by the minute.
"Im Ju, take deep breaths. Now, I'm assuming that your family doesn't know that you're dating Suho, right? So, I say that you just have to try and keep them from engaging in a physical fight. If they fight over who makes better dumpling whatever then it's fine. As long as they don't physically end up throwing punches then it's alright. Seojun knows you're dating Suho. Suho knows that you're dating him - well you would hope, wouldn't you?" Miyeon couldn't help but giggle slightly at her own words, waiting for Jugyeong's reply.
"So.. allow them to be competitive unless they end up properly fighting." Jugyeong repeated, seeming calmer and her voice a little less high-pitched. "I'm just worried about my parents and Juyoung then."
"If you really can't tell them about you and Suho, I suppose you have no choice but to keep calm and try your hardest not to get to agitated with them." Miyeon said. "How do you feel about the Soojin situation?"
"I still feel bad. I talked to Seojun and he said that we should value sisterhood.. but that Suho wouldn't break my heart." Jugyeong sounded disheartened.
"Of course Seojun said that." Miyeon shook her head. "But he's right. Suho isn't the type to break your heart. There's no way. I promise you. You won't get your heart broken by him."
"You're right." Jugyeong seemed to be moving about on the other side of the phone. "Oh! Someone is at the door, I'll have to go."
"Good luck Im Ju! You'll go great!" Miyeon sang through the phone, Jugyeong thanking her before saying her goodbye and hanging up.
The Hwang girl let out a sigh, returning to painting her nails and playing her show. She couldn't possibly think of a worse situation than what Jugyeong was in, and honestly felt bad for the girl.
She jumped out of her skin when she heard her phone ring once more, a number that she didn't recognise. "Hello?" She answered, sitting up again.
"Hwang Miyeon? It's Mrs Hong, Jugyeong's mother!" A bright voice appeared at the end of the phone. "You gave me your number a little while ago when I said I could cook you some meals - and I heard you recently moved into a new apartment, so this is perfect timing. We've been making some dumplings, and have quite a lot. Do you want some? I can set some aside for you to come and pick up now, if that's alright?"
"Oh Mrs Hong that would be wonderful." If Miyeon continued like this, getting cooking from Eunjoo and Mrs Hong, she might not have to worry about door for the rest of her life.
"Good, I just asked Jugyeong if she minds you coming over, and of course she doesn't. In fact she looks rather glad - we have two guests in the house, and tensions have been rather high. They will be ready when you get here!" Mrs Hong's voice continued to be bright and cheery until the moment she hung up.
Abandoning her nails once and for all, Miyeon quickly had to run and wipe off them with polish remover, knowing that if she went out with them still drying they would be completely ruined. Five minutes after and she had left the house, getting on the nearest bus and heading the short journey to Jugyeong's house.
Walking down the familiar streets, Miyeon arrived at the house and stepped up to the front door, raising her hand and knocking twice.
Within seconds the front door was pulled open and Miyeon was wrapped in a hug. "Oh thank god you're here." Of course, it was Jugyeong and when she finally let go, Miyeon not even able to get a word in edgeways, she was dragged in side.
"I love you." Miyeon's eyebrows instantly jerked upwards at the words spoken through clearly clenched teeth, a rather smug grin appearing on her face as she looked down in front of the TV.
Suho and Seojun were facing each other, clipping each other's toenails and repeating the phrase back to each other. They looked up simultaneously to see who it was, freezing when they saw the girl.
"They got into a physical fight." Jugyeong whispered in her ear, Miyeon nodded with the same grin sitting there. It was safe to say she was thoroughly enjoying this.
"Well, don't stop on my account." She shrugged, turning when Mrs Hong approached, holding a box of dumplings open. "They look wonderful, Mrs Hong." Miyeon said, receiving a smile from the woman.
"My Jugyeong has such pretty friends. It's a shame two of them don't seem to get along." Mrs Hong replied, gaze drifting across to Seojun and Suho, who had begrudgingly began their punishment again. "Honestly, rolling around like they're little kids." The woman shook her head in despair.
A box of dumplings on her lap, Miyeon waited besides Jugyeong who seemed completely embarrassed by the entire situation. And eventually, when Mrs Hong deemed necessary, the two were released from their punishment.
"I don't want to see you fighting again." Mrs Hong said, leading them towards the door, Miyeon and Jugyeong following behind. They reached the gate, the Im girl and the Hwang girl hugging before the latter joined Seojun and Suho on the street. "I don't know what happened between you two, but this fighting won't do you any good."
"Let's just go inside, leave them to it." Jugyeong rushed, hurrying her mom back inside. "Thanks for coming Miyeon, I'll see you tomorrow."
"No problem." Miyeon replied as the gate slammed, and she watched as the two boys eyes met, cringing as they remembered. With a second glance to each other, they looked as if they were about to rush off in opposite, but letting the bag strap fall onto her wrist, Miyeon grabbed the back of their shirts and pulled them back.
"I don't think so!" She yanked them back. "What on earth were you thinking? Not only is that rude to Mrs Hong, but how could either of you put Jugyeong in that position. I really hope that punishment got through to you, because it was unacceptable what you did."
"Gosh, you know how to make a guy feel guilty." Seojun tugged his shirt away from her gasp. "But I really need to go, my mom asked me to pick up some ramyeon."
"See you." She smiled rather weakly as Seojun rushed off, turning to Suho. "I thought you were better than that."
"You're not going to let me off easy like you did with Seojun, are you?" Suho asked, and with his teasing tone, Miyeon knew exactly what he was insinuating.
"Go!" She pointed in the direction he was heading, letting out a sigh as he disappeared before beginning her own way home.
Accompanied by a box of dumplings and hopes that Suho and Seojun wouldn't do something like that again.
