Walking side by side, still dressed in their school uniform, Hyunwoo and Miyeon made their way down the street. Arms brushed every so often and bags swung between them, Miyeon's hand angled upwards as she carried her drink.
Like she had suggested, the two of them had gone to a cafe - the Hwang girl's favourite in fact. And whilst she had joked on the way there about the type of coffee one ordered reflecting them, she hadn't expected Hyunwoo to order such a bitter drink.
"It's common these days!" He had protested. "Besides - yours' is far too sweet for me to enjoy. I think my tastebuds would fall off before I could drink more than two sips.
But despite Hyunwoo's dislike for stawberry matcha lattes and Miyeon wondering how on earth he could drink coffee like he did, they had sat in a window seat at the cafe with a slice of cake on a plate in front of them.
"How's your drink?" Hyunwoo asked after they had left, eyeing the almost finished plastic cup in the girl's hands, gaze drifting over the couple of rings on her fingers and noticing the bracelet that hung by her wrist.
"Very sweet, thank you very much." Miyeon replied with such a lofty tone that it had Hyunwoo laughing, hiding his giggles and smile behind his hand. "Come on - you acted as if it was blasphemy for me to order such a drink."
"Well you've read The Interpreter and I'm not taking any risks of you spoiling it - so enjoy." Hyunwoo replied, Miyeon taking another sip and looking rather happy as she pulled the straw from her lips.
"Wise choice my friend - it wasn't like I was half asleep or anything." She deflected, hiding her smile with another sip, pausing and toying with the cover around the cup for a moment, twisting the design. "You.. gave me tonkatsu, didn't you."
"Huh?" Hyunwoo looked rather shocked behind his glasses. "I thought you weren't good at remembering things or faces."
"Yeah - but I remembered you smiled at me - and I like tonkatsu a lot. I wouldn't forget someone who gave me tonkatsu." Miyeon replied. "I take it very seriously. It's my favourite side dish."
"I remember you saying." Hyunwoo said. "I can't believe you remember me because of tonkatsu and not because we were friends in middle school."
"Listen, I was friends with a lot of people in middle school!" Miyeon defended. "There was a lot going on, and the tonkatsu thing is a lot more recent. A lot has happened since middle school. Besides.. how did you end up serving massive platters of a side dish to Jugyeong."
"That's the girl you were walking with earlier, isn't it?" Hyunwoo waited for Miyeon to nod before continuing on. "Well Chorong was asked to help by Seojun, and believe it or not but several of his friends didn't react entirely well to be asked to hold platters of tonkatsu. He was asking around, so I offered and got some of the tonkatsu afterwards. He seemed desperate - and I'm rather hopeless when it comes to that because I'll feel guilty for not helping and I hate seeing other people uncomfortable and well.. I just ended up offering and - oh gosh, I'm talking a lot."
He shut himself up with that, the tips of his ears turning pink. Miyeon surveyed his appearance, eyes sparking in amusement for a moment before she laughed, Hyunwoo physically deflating when he saw it.
"My friend - Lee Suho - would absolutely hate you." Miyeon managed between laughs, the sound rather infectious and the Song boy found himself laughing as well. "He's always telling me that I talk too much. It's a wonder we became friends again, really."
"He's the rather quiet.. kind of scary one, right?" Hyunwoo asked. "Well if he's anything like that as a friend or if it's all appearances, then I daresay that being rather talkative compliments his personality."
"I daresay that you're right." Miyeon nodded, and it seemed that this take on their contrasting personalities really made sense to her - which it did. "He is a bit different when you're actually friends with him."
"Good - he seems a bit robotic otherwise." Hyunwoo nodded.
"Talking of friends, you haven't once said anything remotely like a pickup line the entirety of time that we have spent together. Did your friends seriously not tell you anymore?" Miyeon looked over at him.
"I have.. chosen to ignore them." The Song boy replied. "You should've heard some of them though - how either of them have had girlfriends in the past I have no idea. It's probably why they broke up with them, though."
"I would as well, if I'm honest." Miyeon shifted slightly pulling her coat tighter around her. "You should hear some of the stuff Taehoon says to Sooa. It was awful on their 100th day anniversary - all this stuff about him going to hell because he had stolen an angel from heaven or something."
"Sounds.. sweet?" Hyunwoo offered, Miyeon laughing.
"They're cute though. Even if I have almost thrown up on multple occasions because of them." She shivered, face quite the picture as she obviously remembered a such time.
"Some relationships are just like-" Hyunwoo began, as they turned another corner and rather suddenly a motorbike appeared, almost hitting Miyeon and swerving to a stop, the girl stumbling back and the rider ending up on the ground. "Hey - are you alright?"
He turned to Miyeon, who nodded at his question, but had her eyes set on the motorbike, eyes narrowed. "I would know that stupid bike anywhere." She muttered, walking forward and pulling off the helmet.
And of course, who else would it be, except Han Seojun.
