The four friends had dressed into their school uniform by the time the train had come to a stop. The student poured out of the train, the first years heading towards the sound of the familiar Half-Giant calling for the first years.
After a short walk they climbed onto some boats before going across this lake. The hopped off and proceeded to the stairs of the castle. They climbed a few more sets before being stopped by this older witch at the top of the last set.
"Welcome to Hogwarts. Now in a few moments you will walk through these doors and join your classmates but before you can take your seats you must be sorted into your houses. Theres Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Now while you're here your house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you points, any rule breaking and you will lose points. At the end of the year the house with the most points is awarded the house cup." The witch had started as the sounds of squeaky croaks were heard coming towards the end.
"Trevor!" The boy that Dahlia assumed was Neville yelled before picking up the little toad.
"Sorry." Neville apologized earning a look from the witch and a few laughs from his classmates before retreating to the crowd.
"The sorting ceremony will begin momentarily." The witch said before leaving the group.
"So it's true then? What they're saying on the train? Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts." Draco said earning gasps from Dahlias classmates, the two friends locked eyes and they smiled at eachother.
"This is Crabbe and Goyle...and I'm Malfoy. Draco Malfoy." Draco said pointing to the two boys beside him first as he made his way to Harry, earning a stifling laugh sound from Ron.
"Think my names funny do you? Not much to say about yours." The blonde barked as he looked Ron up and down. "Red hair and a hand me down robe! You must be a Weasley." Draco spat making the ginger look at his feet and frown. "You'll soon find out that some wizarding families are better than others. You don't want to go and make friends with the wrong folk." Draco continued glaring at Ron. "I can help you there." He finished as he stuck his hand out for the boy to shake.
"I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself, thanks." Harry assured the boy with a slight sassy tone earning a glare from Draco and Dahlia to raise her eyebrows in suprise just before the older witch came back and led the first years into the what Dahlia assumed was the Great Hall.
Demetria looked around and saw that they were being led into this large hall, in the middle of four long tables filled with students. She assumed that each table was for each house.
They stopped at a set of a few steps, still clumped in the group they were in before.
"Now, before we begin. Professor Dumbledore would like to say a few words." The witch said before this much, much older wizard stood up.
He wore brown robes, a pointed hat and he had a long grey beard and had long hair that matched the colour of his beard.
"I have a few start of term notices I would like to announce. The dark forest is strictly forbidden to all students. Also out Caretaker, Mr Filch has asked me to remind you, that the 3rd floor corridor on the right hand side is strictly out of bounds to everyone who doesn't wish to die a most painful death. Thank you." Dumbledore concluded before sitting down.
"When I call your name, you will come forth and I will place the Sorting Hat upon your head and you will be sorted into your houses." The witch paused before looking at the scroll of parchment. "Hermione Granger."
Dahlia rubbed her new friends shoulder before smiling at her, Hermione doing the same back before muttering words to herself and walking up the stairs to the older witch before sitting on the stool and the hat was placed on her head.
"Gryffindor!" The hat announced after a few moments of the hat being on her head.
Hermione smiled before hopping of the stool and walking over to the Gryffindor table.
"Draco Malfoy!" The witch called before Dahlia looked at her friend for a brief moment before he went up the steps to the stool and the hat was put on his head.
"Slytherin!" The hat called making the students of Slytherin house clap and scream triumphantly. At least she might have one of her friends.
Dahlia's family consisted of Slytherins from her fathers side meanwhile on her mothers there were Ravenclaws. There were few Hufflepuffs but there had never been a Gryffindor. That included her siblings who were all in Ravenclaw.
They then called another name but Dahlia had zoned out then.
"Ron Weasley!" The witch called before the boy walked up the steps.
"Gryffindor!" The Hat announced making the Gryffindor table roar in excitement.
"Harry Potter!" The witch called gaining the attention of everyone in the hall as whispers went around. The hat was on his head a little longer than expected. Dahlia hopes he was in Ravenclaw, knowing he didn't want to be in Slytherin.
"Gryffindor!" The Hat announced making Dahlia frown slightly but she was happy for him nevertheless.
"WE GOT POTTER! WE GOT POTTER!" Dahlia could hear the Weasley triplets repeat the words as he went to sit down.
"Evanora Blanche!" The witch called making Demetria's sister shove her way to the front and up the stairs, onto the stool. The hat was placed on her head.
Dahlia remembered the times that Demetria told her about her families history. Her father was a Hufflepuff and her mother was a Gryffindor. Before them their families were full of members from all the houses so the possibilities were endless at this rate.
"Slytherin!" The hat called making Slytherin table clap ferociously in excitement as the girl smiled and hopped her way over, sitting next to Draco.
He too was nervous, he too was hoping that his oldest friend would make it into the same house as him.
"Demetria Blanche!" The witch called making the girl gulp before fiddling with her fingers and walking up the steps, sitting on the stool.
"Hmmm, now where to put you? You're family is filled with all the houses, but you on the other hand are far different from your sister and that's why I'll put you in..." Demetria heard the hat say to only her.
"Hufflepuff!" The hat announced making the Hufflepuffs clap victoriously.
Demetria smiled slightly at her best friend as she passed her on her way to her House table to be greeted by Cordelia Diggory.
At this rate Dahlia's heart was thumping in her chest, she was scared beyond her capabilities.
"Dahlia Falcone!" The witch called gaining the attention of the room once more, the students in 3rd and 4th year were curious to see where she would be put, especially since all her older siblings were all Ravenclaws.
Dahlia crept up the stairs, taking deep breaths as she took a step. She sat on the stool and the hat was placed on her head.
"You will be rather difficult. You have very, very powerful family on both you parents sides. Your fathers is rather well known for good reasons but terrifyingly horrific ones too. You are similar to your family of course but rather different and extremely special too and crucial for the future. Now I know you want Ravenclaw or Slytherin but in order for you to be the achieve those standards I must put you in..." The curly haired girl mentally crossed her fingers as she heard the Hats words.
"Gryffindor!" The Hat announced making the curly haired girls eyes widen as her heart sank but nevertheless she held up a small smile.
She made her way to the Gryffindor table with a fake smile plastered on her face as she was welcomed with a hug from Harry Hermione and Ron. She sat down next to Hermione who noticed the girls sad expression. Dahlia gazed around the Hall as more names were called and sorted into houses. She locked eyes with Nicholas who simply shrugged his shoulders and smiled slightly at the girl. Then they trailed over to Draco who refused to look at hers.
The Blonde boy was beyond disappointed, he felt as if he had lost the only person who ever listened to him. He knew that their friendship would be tempered with due to their Houses being rivals.
She next saw Demetria who only waved at her, the brunette was satisfied due to her being put in the same house as her father.
Dahlia eventually locked eyes with her mother. She still smiled a full and honest smile at her daughter who she could see was not in the happiest mood.
"Its okay." The woman mouthed to her daughter who only nodded her head as a response.
Harry, Ron and Hermione had noticed the girl's understandable state as they watched her with sympathetic expressions. Hermione did something that was unexpected to Dahlia, the bushy haired girl pulled her into a side hug.
This year may not be as easy as expected
