KATNISS POV  - ͟͟͞☆
 

Katniss climbed out of her mother's car, bags in tow and stumbled out onto the wet grass coated with the dew from that morning. The humid beginning-of-June heat rushed to her face immediately. 

Her younger sister, Prim, hopped out after her and shut the door behind her. The two siblings waved goodbye as their mother pulled away and then took in their surroundings. 

They were standing in a large, open, grassy area, a large cabin perched to the side with a sign above it reading Panem Summer Camp. Behind the large sign was a narrow dirt path leading to the rest of the camp presumably. 

There were kids ranging in age from 12 to 18 mingling about with their bags, some in line checking in. Katniss led Prim over to the short-ish line for check in and got in line behind a tall black haired girl about 18. 

The line stumbled along and soon Katniss and Prim reached the front and faced a large man with stone cold eyes and graying hair.

"Names?" he asked, not looking up from his computer screen. The man took a sip of his coffee which had steam billowing out the top.

"Katniss and Primrose Everdeen," Katniss replied. The man nodded along, muttering incoherently as his bony fingers flew across the keyboard.

"You're all set," he stated after a minute or so. Katniss said a quick thank you and went and stood over by a large tree with Prim. 

Soon, the clearing was filled with kids conversing loudly with others. An older man with white-ish hair whistled with two bony fingers, grabbing everyone's attention.

"Hello children," the man yelled. "Welcome to Panem Summer Camp. I am Head Counselor Snow, please follow me down this path, stay together, don't get lost."

The children grouped together and shuffled through the underbrush after Snow. He led them to another grassy clearing, this one larger giving the group more space to spread out. 

"Now that we have some more room, I will read off your name and you will go stand by your assigned counselor with your belongings." 

With that, about 50 counselors walked out in a single file line, varying in size, age, height, style, and hair. They lined up behind Snow who pulled out a long list of names. Now he was really starting to remind Katniss of Santa Claus. 

"We will start with the twelve year olds, and then finish with the 18 year olds. Cabin 1 with Beetee: Shane Bernard, Rory Hawthorne-" he began to read off the names and Katniss filled with worries, blocking him out. 

What if she didn't like her cabinmates? What if they didn't like her? What if she got lost? Embarrassed herself in front of everyone? What if Prim got lost? What if Prim cried the whole summer because no one liked her? 

Her worries stopped abruptly when Prim's name pierced the air. "Cabin Six with Cressida: Treelee Anns, Rue Barnette, Primrose Everdeen-" Prim collected her belongings, gave Katniss a quick side hug, and then scampered off towards a group of girls with a girl in her late twenties, her hair shaved on one side. 

Katniss sucked in a breath and glanced around before letting it out. She stood by herself until Snow reached the 15 year olds. 

"Cabin 28 with Haymitch: Cato Hadley, Gale Hawthorne, Peeta Mellark, Thresh Morrowson, Finnick Odair, Marvel Sanford." A group of boys went over to a man with long blondish gray hair to his shoulders. 

"Cabin 29 with Effie: Glimmer Belcourt, Annie Cresta, Finch Crossley, Katniss Everdeen, Clove Kentwell, Johanna Mason, Madge Undersee." Katniss collected her bags and dragged them over to a young woman with her dyed purple hair pulled atop her head. 

The woman had too much make up on and her face was as white as a white rose. Katniss dropped her bag next to the lady since they would be waiting for a bit and surveyed the rest of her group. There were six people excluding herself and Effie. 

The girl nearest to her was an average sized redhead with freckles and big round glasses perched on the tip of her nose. She had emerald eyes and a pointed nose. Her face reminded Katniss of a fox's. 

The girl on Katniss' other side was taller than Katniss herself and had golden colored hair cascading down her back reaching just above her waist. The girl was quite beautiful and had emerald green eyes like the redhead. She had a ton of makeup on but it fit well. 

A short dark haired girl secluded herself from the rest of the group, her dark eyes stone cold, almost murderous as she looked at them. She had freckles sprinkling her face and had a tiny frame. 

Another red head was chatting quietly with a blonde haired girl, the two were both short but not as small as the dark haired girl. The redhead had vivid eyes that were darting around with caution. The blonde haired girl had pale blue eyes and a tiny nose. She was super thin and looked frail. 

The last girl was glaring at everyone and everything in sight like the dark haired girl and had dyed red hair falling to her shoulders. This girl too looked almost murderous which wouldn't be good for the rest of the cabin who would prefer not to be murdered in their sleep. The girl was a little shorter than Katniss and had deep brown eyes. 

While Katniss was taking notice of her new cabin mates, Snow had finished reading off the names and Effie led them down a path to a secluded section branded with a sign that read Fifteen Year Olds. 

There were multiple cabins set in a crescent moon shape with a large flag pole in the middle which was surrounded by a circle of painted rocks. Effie guided them to a decent sized log cabin to the left and swung the door open. 

The girl's followed her in and were met with a typical summer camp set up. There were four bunk beds and a larger singular bed in the corner most likely designated for Effie

There was a door at the back leading to a bathroom presumably and the walls were a dark gray color. The small dark haired girl immediately called dibs on the top bunk closest to the door and the other's followed jumping onto random beds. 

Katniss ended up on a bottom bunk with the bespectacled fox faced girl, and laid out her bag. Effie ushered them into a circle on the ground space left and Katniss sat down in between her bunk mate and the blonde with the blue eyes.

"Hello everyone! My name is Counselor Effie, but just call me Effie." Effie had a high pitched voice that would soon get annoying. "How about we introduce ourselves! You are all going into ninth grade correct?" 

Everyone nodded. "Wonderful! Let's go around and say our first and last names and how old we are! I'll go first! My name is Effie Trinket and I am 28 years old!" Effie's exclamation was getting annoying already. Effie gestured for it to go the tall, blonde girl's way.

"Hi, I'm Glimmer Belcourt and I am 15," the girl said. Sitting to her left was the redhead with vivid eyes, which were dancing around with uncertainty.

"I'm Annie Cresta and I'm 15," she said quietly. Her voice reminded Katniss of a bird call, soft and airy. The dark haired girl went next.

"I'm Clove Ketnwell and I'm 15," she said. Katniss wasn't sure why they needed to state their age as they were all in the fifteen year old sections but she shrugged it off.

"I'm Madge Undersee," the blonde from next to Katniss said, her voice tiny. "I'm 15." Katniss was next.

"I'm Katniss Everdeen and I'm 15," she stated.

"I'm Finch Crossley and I'm 15," said the fox faced girl from next to her.

Everyone looked at the girl with the dyed hair. Rolling her eyes at them she stated simply, "Johanna."

"Last name?" Effie tried. Johanna ignored her and continued examining her stubby nails. Effie huffed and pulled out a piece of paper. 

"So, there's this speech I need to read alright?" No one said anything so Effie read over the paper. "Welcome to Panem Summer Camp, while you stay here, phones will be unused during all times except free period. We will have periods, sections of your day scheduled for specific things, which you will do alongside your group and sometimes other groups. Your cabin's schedule will be handed to you at precisely 6:30 every morning, approximately 30 minutes before the day officially starts. On your first day, presumably the day you read this, your shortened schedule is below. Curfew is 9:00 and your counselor will decide when lights out is. Hope you enjoy your stay. Sincerely, Head Counselor Snow." 

A smaller paper fell out of the first paper and that too Effie read aloud to the girls. "2:00: Check In, 2:45: Safety Meeting in the Mess Hall, 3:50: Tour, 6:00: Skills Test in the Crafts Cabin, 6:30: Dinner in the Mess Hall, 7:30: First Day Campfire, 8:00: Free Period, 9:00: Curfew."

"Skills Test?" Annie questioned worriedly. Effie nodded.

"Basically testing what you already know. It will be on paper this time but beginning of July, you will perform in front of the judges whom we call Gamemakers," Effie explained. 

Effie glanced at a small lavender watch around her wrist and stood up from her spot. "It's 2:37 currently. We should start heading over to the Mess Hall now," she suggested. The girls nodded, stood up, and clumped together behind Effie. 

Katniss found herself between Finch and Glimmer. Effie led them out into the humid June air, a calm breeze blowing through every so often, causing the girls' hair to flow behind them. 

The girls followed Effie silently, uncomfortably walking alongside each other. Glimmer decided to break the silence.

"Did you guys see the hot guys in Cabin 28?" she asked eagerly.

"Nope," Clove stated. "All I saw were some ugly idiots following Counselor Barbie Hair." Finch snickered from beside Katniss who let a small smile cross her lips. 

 The girls followed Effie all the way to a long log cabin looking out to a deep blue colored lake. The water seemed to sparkle against the sun's light. The group walked into the Mess Hall, swinging the doors open right at 2:45.
