9— new world

"You—you're him."
"W-what did you say?" he asks the girl again.
"You're him!" she now exclaims, equally dumbfounded by the fact as well.
The boy's eyes widen as he scrutinizes the photogragh that is held between his fingers.
This all is—well totally unexpected, far-fetched, and impossible.
Inconceivable, above all.
He was told that he was an orphan. That his parents had left him on the streets of the village to die. That he, was a worthless being.
But somewhere down, at the bottom of his heart, he had hope, that his parents were still somewhere and all of this was untrue. That they still love him, and look for him.
Now though, that it's all beginning to get disclosed, now that the hope shines from over his long lasting despondency, it's a little harder to really believe it.
He also finds no reason, no excuse to contradict any of Mirae's statement.
Mainly because of two reasons.
One, he had always believed in her powers and her statements were always accurate and true.
Second being, he wanted to believe in it. He wanted it to be true.
"What?" a soft whisper sighs out in disbelief.
Turning around swiftly at the new voice, they are met with the face of a lady of around 45 years, standing with tears gleaming in her eyes, now rolling down her milky cheeks freely.
—
"Jungguk! Where are you?" She turns around the corner, to face a huge pair of double doors, probably leading to the balcony. "Jung-"
Mirae stops in her tracks, after swinging the door open. There he stands, hands in the pockets, looking away into the scenery in front of him.
Mirae nears him, gently placing her palm on one of his shoulders.
"Is—everything alright Guk? Are you okay?" she asks softly.
Jungguk smiles to himself, then turning around with a little smile on his lips.
"Yeah, it's just—I need sometime to get used to all this. All this has happened all so suddenly that..." he sighed.
The tray, along with the glasses on it fall down to the ground, spilling their contents exactly like the emotions that spill out of her heart.
"I—Is that really you?" she asks, her voice shaking with choked emotions.
She tries to comprehend the situation, tries to find a logical explanation of the sight that displays itself in front of her eyes.
Afterall, it isn't everyday that a long lost son returns home.
She rushes over to him, her aged feet nearly slipping over the wet tiles of the floor, and takes his face in her palms, sifting and inspecting every feature of his, tears still rolling down her cheeks helplessly.
They say that a mother can identify her child, simply by looking into their eyes. After all, the connection, the bond that share goes beyond the strength of any relationship present on earth.
As of Jungguk, he stands there nonplussed. Stupefied.
Nothing absolutely makes sense.
"Son?" a deep voice dares to cut through the silence that befell upon the room.
There stands the old man, who had brought the both of them home.
Mr. Jeon.
"Don't worry, you'll be fine." Mirae tries to assure him, to comfort him.
"I know, but I won't rest, I can't, not until your parents have been been found too." Jungguk states.
Mirae sighs, finally nodding afterwards.
"It's a shock learn that we were kidnapped, right?" she mutters lowly.
Jungguk nods in agreement,
"And that we were childhood besties."
Mirae lets out a low chuckle to that, but then her smile turns down into a frown.
"Wh-what if they come back?"
"The kidnappers? I don't think they even remember us. According to dad, they had kidnapped us as a revenge, our fathers being the top officials of the KCB (Korean Crime Branch). But as far as I can comprehend, after the fall from that cliff, they must believe that we died. Hence, they didn't come down after us. Moreover, our fathers have retired. I don't think they'll come back."
Mirae nods.
"And even if they come to know about us, they won't be able to reach us. We are under security of KCB. The officials always have been."
She hums in agreement.
"We lost our memories after the fall from the cliff." Mirae mumbled. Finally, all the pieces come together.
"Hm."
"But now, we're ok..." Jungguk smiles gratefully,
"...And it's all because of you."
Mirae returns the action.
Jungguk looks into her eyes hesitantly,
" Mirage-ah, I—I need to tell you something, now that everything is okay."
Deep breaths taken, he starts.
Mirae-ah, I-I think I'm in love with you. I don't know how but, I love you so much. Maybe it's because of the way you smile, or the way you are so beautiful and cute at the same time, o-or the way you are so helpful and kind and selfless to others, or, your powers. Or, It's just you. I-I don't know, but all I know is — I-I mean—"
Mirae listens to his every word attentively, simultaneously trying to read his eyes.
They were, so full of affection, so full of adoration for her.
Mirae unexpectedly leans in, surprising them hell out of him with a sweet chaste peck.
Jungguk who is shocked by the sudden action at first, replies to the gesture with ardour, pulling her in by the neck for another one.
After they pull away, Mirae smiles bashfully at him.
He beams with the realization that she reciprocates his feelings with the same fervour.
As they stares into each others' eyes, conversing through them before leaning in again, they are interrupted by an excited, yet deep voice,
"Hello, people!"
"I'm Taehyung, your cousin from your mom's sister." He states with a smirk.
—
Mirae, that same following night, is finally met with her parents. Her parents cry out in joy, for their daughter has finally returned.
Even after so many years far away from each other, that connection could still be felt. That familiarity, it still managed to live through everything, through all thick and thin.
Her parents except the fact about Mirae having special powers, abilities, with open arms. They find it to be a God gift, but decide to keep it from the world for good, for protecting her against those who'd want to use them for unmoral acts and wishes.
The next day, Jungguk and Mirae undergo a blood test and the results are matched correctly with their parents.
But even after a month, Mirae can't help but badly remember her friend from the village, the orphan girl Eunbin, who had been with her through almost all of her sufferings.
She asks her mother if Eunbin can be brought here, to which her mother agrees, with a proud smile.
