chapter3

3— you're not alone anymore

---.ᴥ︎ᴥ︎ᴥ︎ᴥ︎.---

Mirae finds herself walking alongside her newest friend (if she can call him that), Jungguk.

She can tell Jungguk is exhausted, because of the escape and all.
She is too.

The walk is silent, and it seems that neither Mirae nor Jungguk want to say anything.

After a long, long walk, Jungguk finally stops in front of a building...a very old building.

It looks like it was a post office.
But it is rather outdated.

"Sigh...So this, you know, is where I've been living, for the past month or so." He says.

The girl just nods.

Jungguk opens the front door and walks in, Mirae following him inside.

And, she's awestruck.

The place, even if it is old and outdated, it has this homey feel to it, and it looks like a successful attempt had been carried out to clean the place up.

"So, umm, I know this is dirty...not that I haven't tried to clean it, but-" He quickly adds, but is cut by Mirae who walks inside looking ahead and around.

"It's nice."

She then turns to him.
"I find it is perfect." She says, smiling.

Jungguk is surprised.
He had thought that being a girl, and of course the place being dirty, she would refuse to stay.

But she didn't.

Not that he was complaining anyway.

"How?" He asks. He knows that the question sounds stupid, but he has to know why someone would think of that place, pretty.

When he first arrived here, the place was a mess, and he had to tidy-up the place enough for human residence.

"Well, its not just about how it looks, but it is about the feel of it, and the efforts been put in. That's why it feels homey. And trust me, I know the difference between a house, and a home." She states looking into his eyes with an expression, which conveyed Jungguk the message, that she is appreciating him.

He smiles.

"Thanks. So, you wanna eat something?" He asks politely.

"Umm, I guess. What do you have?"

"Uh, not much, but I do have cookies. You want some?"

"Do you have enough for your future use?" She asks him, concerned.

Jungguk suddenly has this strange yet absolutely lovely feeling in his heart, the feeling of being wanted, of being cared for.

It felt foreign, but good.

He couldn't help but just smile at her.

"What?" She asks, suddenly feeling awkward due to him smiling eerily to himself.

"U-uh, n-nothing. I have enough, and as you are, kinda my guest, so...it doesn't matter." He states, smiling assuringly.

Mirae returns the gesture and nods.

"You should go and sit there, on that sofa for the meantime. You must be tired, after all that." He suggests, pointing towards an old couch.

"Uh, yeah. Aren't you too? Come and join me." She offers.

"Thanks, let me just get the cookies." He says, quickly walking toward a big wooden box in one corner.

He rummages through it, looking for something.

After half a minute or so, he comes back with a small box of what looks like a pack of cookies.

"Here, have some." He offers.

"Thanks." She takes two, gratefully smiling at him.

They sit there, on the old couch, munching on the cookies silently.

"So, it's been a long day today." Jungguk says, finally breaking the silence.

"Yeah, it has been. And, mostly, a life-changing day. I got kicked out, put my powers to good use, found someone who isn't scared of me, maybe even a friend." She says, looking at the crunchy, nut adorned cookie, that she holds between her fingers.

All this time, Jungguk stares at this girl in front of him.

He finds the girl unique, which she literally is, and strong-headed, determined and above all, she feels familiar.

"Well, you aren't alone anymore." He whispers gently.

"And, its nice to know you consider me as a friend." He says, still looking at her.

She lifts her eyes to meet his.
She smiles.

"I-I mean, you were referring to me right?" He quickly adds, nervously laughing a little.

Mirae chuckles too.
"Yes, I meant you."

Happily, Jungguk follows suit.

Mirae and Jungguk both, had long forgotten when they had had such a wholehearted laugh.

And they both feel another foreign feeling.
They feel happy.

They find each other's company enjoyable.

And heart-warming.

Even though it hasn't been even a complete day since they've met each other, they feel like they have been knowing each other for years.

As they laugh, Jungguk keeps cracking more jokes, which intensified both of their feelings, which was to laugh even more.

Even though she is laughing out loudly, she manages to notice Jungguk's facial features, his expressions, his ebony, shiny hair, falling on his forehead, and meeting his beautiful brows, and his dark doe eyes, so deep that she finds herself getting lost in them.
They are so full of emotions.

But due to his bangs, it is difficult to have a clear look of his eyes.

She focussed on his eyes.

The laughter has already died down, as Jungguk finds Mirae looking straight into his eyes, trying to find something behind them, or rather, trying to read them.

Subconsciously, she finds herself leaning in.
While he just tries to comprehend what her next action would be.

Mirae lifts her hand, and like a feather, she gently pushes the hair blocking his eyes, aside.

Now she's able to look into his eyes, completely, the boy in front of her doing the same.

The look in both of their eyes tells that they are looking for something they thought they had both lost a long time ago.

They are looking for their true identity they both had lost when they were young.

They find each other familiar, like they had met each other way long ago, before this day.

"Leave him alone! Let him go!"

The little boy struggled to set himself free from the huge men who held him by the wrists.

"Don't take him away! Please!"

No pleadings worked.

The little child cried, his dark eyes now brimming with overflowing tears.

While she could do nothing but attempt to free herself.
Which did not work.

Surprised, she breaks the eye contact.

This dream used to come when she was young, which had stopped coming, which now used to come only when she fell sick.

She thought they were just random dreams. But now that she thinks, she knows they aren't just random dreams.

But the question is...

Why now ?
Why in front of him ?
Why here while looking into his eyes ?

The faces are all unclear.

But the thoughts clouding her mind are:

Who was the boy, who was trying to free himself ?

Who was the girl who was pleading the ruthless unknown men for releasing him ?

And above all, why were they being held by them ?
