WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN gossip and scandal? I'm so glad you asked. Anyone can commit a minor indiscretion and generate a day's worth of buzz. But in order for gossip to birth a true scandal. It requires the right person to be in the wrong place.
Scrolling down there's a picture of Serena with - what looks to be - a pregnancy test. Yet with everyone wanting to see her fall. We can never know if she was actually buying them for her own use, she did for someone else, or it might have even been edited.
Picking up my bag, I shake my head. Heading downstairs, "B!" I call. The brunette holding out the elevator, "Ten minutes."
"Twenty minutes early." I retort as she walks into the lift. Me following close behind, "Did you see the blast?"
"It's for me." she says as soon as the doors close. Making my brows furrow, "Why didn't you ask me?"
"And have people take pictures of you? No thanks." B denies. Shifting my gaze to her I look at the brunette, "It's sweet, and psychotic at the same time.." I trail off, "It's like you." I smile. Making B's lip tuck up, rolling her eyes as she does.
Seated at the steps the blond Humphrey runs up later than expected, "Hey!" little J calls, "Hey, J." I greet taking another sip, "You're late." B notes, "Yeah, I know. I had to drop some books off at the library. Sorry." she apologizes, taking a seat close to Blair.
Taking a sip of my drink I watch the scene unfold, "Would you do me a favour?" Blair asks the freshman, "Anything." she nods, "Move down a couple steps." the Waldorf asks, waving her hand for the blond to do so.
Sighing softly I look at the scene unfold, "This whole hazing thing is getting a bit old. Don't you think, B?" Jenny questions, "Don't I know it." I mumble against my cup, "The hazing stops when I say it stops." B starts.
Glaring at the girl, "And for future reference, only my friends call me B." she tells the girl. Whereas the rest look around awkwardly. Not meeting either Blair or Jenny's gaze. As they're not allowed to call her B either.
Standing up the young girl descents down the steps as another blond moves up, "Hey, guys." Serena greets, "Hey." I smile, the rest following suit. Staying quiet after, "I'm not pregnant." S cheers awkwardly breaks the silence.
Where they nod at, congratulating her for not having a baby while in high school, "Celebratory drinks after school?"
"Yeah, sure. Blair, can I talk to you?"
Making said girl stand up, "Of course." she nods, "Excuse me." she tells us. Taking my arm, pulling me with her, "Okay, I'm going with." I nod surprised, "Did you see my text?" S questions right off the bat, "What text?" I ask confused, "Not you, babe." she reassures me.
Shifting her gaze to the Waldorf, "Then you know I told Dan I'm not pregnant." Serena continues, "Yes, and I'm so happy for you. Close call, huh?" Blair smiles, "Are we really going to play that old game, B?" Van der Woodsen sighs.
As I shift between the girls, "I've no idea what you are talking about." B denies, acting like she has no clue, "Whenever something happens that's not a part of your plan, you pretend like it doesn't exist." Serena tells her, "I can confirm that." I chime in.
Taking another sip of my drink, "You act like you're in this movie about your perfect life. Then we have to remind you, the only one watching that movie is you."
"You admitted that your period was late." S adds, "Yes, I've been very stressed I had that Chem test on Friday." B defends.
"And you acted like a total bitch because you're hormonal."
"Maybe I am a total bitch. Did you ever think about that?" Blair offers instead.
Sighing I roll my eyes at their stare off, "Just give it to me." I say holding my hand out, "What, no." B denies pulling my arm down. Slapping her hands away, S hands me the test, "Thank you."
Looking at my arm my bag isn't there, "Fuck." I curse. Holding it behind my back, I take my bag, pushing the test in quickly, "Just take the test." S whispers. All not aware of the eyes focused, and the pictures taken.
For a scandal to really blow up. All it needs is an unexpected turn.
Arriving at school, a lot of eyes were on me. Letting me know Gossip Girl has made another headline. Seeing the quote with the picture of me looking at the pregnancy test, I sigh. Making my way over to my locker, ignoring the attention.
"Just tell them." he starts. Not looking up from my locker, "Tell them what? That I'm a virgin? No thank you." I tell him, "It's better then everyone thinking you're pregnant." Tom reminds me.
Where I shake my head too. Closing the locker, "Well, I'm not." I say, walking passed him, "Then say that." he tries. Stopping in my tracks, I turn back to him, "Why do you have it anyway?" the Bass questions.
Licking my lips I think of the best answer, "For a friend." I trail off, "A friend?" he asks. Where I nod too. Raising a brow at me, his eyes don't waver from mine. As the bell rings, "I have to go." I tell him.
Finally, the longest school day ever-existing ended. Now laying on B's bed we're doing our homework. While I'm activity avoiding the essay part, "Hey, guys." Serena greets walking into the room, without knocking.
"Hey." I say, not looking up from my work, "What are you doing here?" B questions instead.
Nudging my feet against her leg, she looks back, "Be nice." I remind her, "In the neighbourhood." S shrugs.
"Can we talk later? Despite your best efforts to ruin it, I'm actually having a good day and I don't want anything to spoil it." B smiles fauxly, "Guess who asked me to visit the Captain with him?" she asks the blond.
"I don't know. Nate?" she guesses, which wasn't really a guess as the Captain is his dad after all.
Which the Waldorf ignores, "Yes, it's like he finally needs me and isn't afraid to-" B smiles happily, "Look, B, I understand why you're reluctant to burst your happy bubble. But I'm not giving up." Serena tells her.
"It's not your choice to make, S." I remind the blond, "Maybe yours? All over Gossip Girl is a poll who is your baby daddy. Thomas, William, or Jacob." Serena snaps.
Pushing the blame on someone other than who took the picture and Gossip Girl herself, "Who cares? I know I'm not pregnant, the people I care for know. Besides who cares?"
"In a couple days it will blow over anyway." I shrug, not making it a bigger deal then it is.
It's a rumour after all, "Well, I'm not giving up." she retorts, "Unlike some people we haven't been on the pill since we were fifteen." B says, which is a real low blow for the blond.
"I'm not giving up-" the blond tries. Even after the clap, "I'm not pregnant, Serena." B snaps, successfully driving the blond away.
As the door closes my eyes shift to the brunette, "The pill, really?" I ask, "I told you, I didn't want your name on the pregnancy scandal. And now it is."
Taking a deep breath I shake my head, "I'm taking a walk." I tell her, standing up and out the room.
Soon the apartment, the building, and off the island and into Brooklyn, "Why don't you tell me what's on your mind? Then it will be on mine, and we can worry together." William offers.
"What does that even mean?" I ask confused, "I have no idea." he shakes his head.
Chuckling at the look on his face, realisation hits me. Letting out a deep breath, "Well, everyone thinks I'm pregnant. Which is... something." I trail off.
"Can I ask a very douchy question?" Will asks, "Sure, ask away." I nod.
"Are you?" William asks, referring to the pregnancy, "No." I shake my head.
Looking up at him, "You sure?" he asks again, "To be pregnant you have to have sex. Which I haven't.." I reveal awkwardly.
"You never?" he asks surprised, "Nope." I shake my head, "You?" I ask turning the attention to him. Where he shakes his head, "Just want to wait for the right moment." trailing off, "It sounds stupid." he shakes his head.
"No, no. I get it. Just for that perfect moment." I add on. Making him nod, "Just thought it would have happened by now." he sighs, wrapping his arm around my shoulder.
"Me too." I nod.
Not even so far away secrets were spilled as well. Just not the once expected, "Hey, Chuck." a certain blond greets, "Call me brother." he smirks, "Don't be creepy!" Tom calls.
Yet him being creepy wasn't the main concern at the moment. As there could be a new addition to creepy, at least that's what the blond thought. Until she got the real truth, she has been with both of them.
"You had the test for Blair?" a voice starts. My door flying open without notice, "You know how to knock?" I ask instead.
Thomas looking at the girl who's not giving him any attention, "You could have told me." he says softly. Sighing I place my book down. Closing my door leaning against it, "I could have, but the fact that you followed me in the halls of my girls-only school. Kind of sends the wrong message." I retort.
Taking a seat on my bed he runs a hand through his hair, "You okay?" he asks carefully, "I'm fine. No one really talks about it." I shrug, "That's because you're you. People like you, and want to believe the best in you." he informs me.
Humming at his words, I take a seat on his lap. My hands-on his shoulders, his politely on my hips. Pulling them a little down, a smirk tucks up his lips, "I'm not pregnant, I don't want to be." I tell him, "Now at least." I add.
"Then what do you want?" biting down his lip. Pushing him back, I open the buttons of my pyjama shirts, "I can think of a few things." I shrug. Sliding his hand over my stomach, he sits up. Kissing down the girls' throat, not being able to keep his hands to himself. Said girl not wanting him too either. As a soft moan slips from her lips, nails gliding over the boy's back.
"Tom?" I ask, snapping my fingers in front of his face, "W-what?" he asks disoriented, "You said that people like me and want to believe the best in me. What does that mean?" I ask for clarification.
Where he clears his throat too, "I meant that people know you're a good girl. Won't get pregnant."
"So, you are saying that Blair is.. what exactly?" I question.
Sighing he lays back on the bed, "I'm just saying stupid things. Let's skip this, and go to what you were doing before I got here." humming at his choice, I take my binder, "I'm supposed to write an essay about why I want to go to Colombia, pursue business." I inform him.
Taking a seat on the bed leaning against the headboard, "Which I can't." I sigh. Where he hums at, "Well.. why should they take you?" he asks me, "Why should they?" I ask back, not knowing the answer.
Taking the binder out of my hands he places it down, "Forget the paper. Why do you want to go? Why do you want to study economics?" he questions, not wanting an ethical or politically correct answer. Just mine.
"Ever since I was a little girl people always said how smart my mom was. How amazing she was. And when they look at me, they see her." I start, "I just.. I want to have a chance to live up to that." I tell him.
Shifting my gaze away from him to my nails, "I want to be that. I don't want to be, 'Oh, that's Val. You might know her dad, Isak. That's why she got in.'" I continue, "You want them to notice you." he realizes, "I do."
"I don't want to be a high school drop out. Never go further on my own, I want to earn my things." I elaborate.
"That's what I like about you." he points out, causing my eyes to raise to his. Making my brows furrow, "The fact that your dad is obviously loaded. But you are still determined to make it on your own. It's admirable." he tells me.
"T-Thanks." I stutter, looking down again. The boy seeing the heat rising to the girl's cheeks, "Any other good ideas?" I clear my throat, "Millions." he nods, handing me the binder as he sits closer to me. Helping me write - hands down - the best essay I have ever written.
"This is amazing." I breathe out, not noticing the look on the boy's face, "W-what?" he asks, like he's snapping out of something. Smiling softly at him, I ignore the reaccuring act, "You really know me, huh?"
"I guess I do." he nods, kissing the top of my head. Pushing the binder away, I lean more into his touch, "Have you written yours?"
"Yeah, handed it in today." he nods, "Why?"
"Just wanted to read it." I shrug, "You can when we get it back."
Leaning up my eyes connect with his, "I'll hold that against you." I remind him, "Please do." he nods. His nose touching mine as he does, only making it known how close his face is to mine. Tilting our heads he lets them nudge together.
And I swear in that moment I would have done anything he asked me too. I'm not sure if I was lucky or unlucky for what happened next. The loud ring of his phone didn't break the mood, "You... you should take it." I whisper.
Looking down, he takes his phone. The conversation was brief but by the look on his face, not very pleasant, "I have to go." he announces sadly, standing up. Nodding I roll off the bed, "I will walk you out." I offer.
The walk down the stairs was quite. Yet not necessary awkward. Maybe it was just me, as the lines were blurry. As we never defined what was okay, and what was not. It was supposed to be a summer fling but summer has ended. And yes, in some ways we have ended. But in other we haven't.
The bell a notification of the lift doors have opened. Pulling him into a tight hug, I shamelessly sniff him in. The boy doing the same, neither of them noticing the set of eyes on them. Pulling away, he steps back, "See you tomorrow?" I ask.
"Yeah." he nods.
