IT WASN'T UNCOMMON FOR A LADY to defer a year from debuting. It was often the case for those who didn't fancy the frills and niceties that came from parading around after being declared a marriageable age and looking for a husband. They would be too ill to partake, too poorly trained on the dancers and expectations which they would no doubt spend the year practising the requisite abilities that would present them as a suitable wife for one of the many eligible lords and sirs at every event they would attend. Entering the marriage market was what the young ladies had built to all their lives, and they simply had to be perfectly prepared for it.

The decision for Lady Violet to withdraw her eldest daughter, Cecilia, twin of Colin, from the programme came the morning before. All those who had been waiting for the delicate, elysian perfection that was Cecilia Bridgerton to debut found themselves disappointed. The reason why that season's incomparable was not yet available for marriage? She had been taken severely ill almost overnight and bundled into a carriage to spend time by the sea.

Many had been hoping to take her hand, however, it seemed most senseless to even participate. It was common knowledge throughout the members of the Ton that Frederick Grey, Cecilia's long term friend whom she had played with on the neatly-clipped lawns of Hampton Court with the Queen herself watching over them, most intrigued by the two children who she had stumbled upon during one of the many events of the season, and most certainly joining the hoarrds of those waiting for Cecilia Bridgerton to come of age and perhaps a rare true love match would be found.

But alas, the Queen found herself disappointed in the masses, as did so many others. Including that of Frederick Grey, who didn't seem to be any more aware of his best friend's disappearance and found himself placing the small velvet box away for safe keeping. Her family diverged no secrets - they appeared to be kept in the same fog as every other, only Violet and Cecilia knowing the truth.

When Cecilia finally regained her strength, after spending winter learning the curious customs of the families who spent all of their time in the countryside, the time of societal debuts and entering the marriage market with plumes of elegant white attached to the tip of their heads was upon them once again. And so she would make her return, prepared to plunge into the depths of the social season as a girl of age alongside her beloved sister, hoping that perhaps, she would have just as much success as she would have done in absence of her defferal.

❛ AND GENTLE PERSUASION ━━ I don't own any of the rights to Bridgerton (obviously), but I do own Cecilia's character. I do also own other characters created to aid her storyline, and any backstory I've given them or others. This is a book with two ocs paired instead of an oc and a character. Also, for this book, there will be the usual Bridgerton warnings (sexy pining etc. etc.) but also there'll be other warnings along the way.

❛ I'M LOST IN ADMIRATION ━━  I will be following the storyline of S1 and S2. Some characters listed don't appear until S2. I have two other books planned (one for Benedict and one for Anthony) that will take place in S2, so this will also link into those as well.

❛ COULD I NEED YOU THIS MUCH? ━━ Believe it or not, but I have never lived in Regency-era Britain. I have, however, watched the show (as mixed accuracy as it is) and do have Google on the very tips of my fingers, so hopefully, with my research, I'll be able to provide a semi-accurate portrayal.
