' killian prefers to sleep with the hook on , even though he might accidentally slice himself in his sleep. there's often mornings where he wakes up with a cut somewhere in his body and blood on his sheets or pillow , because he cannot lay still during his slumber.

' he only takes it off and puts it on a nightstand when he's sleeping with someone beside him. hurting the ones he cares about isn't his forte.

' one could say killian's a morning person , but he's in actuality a night owl. a pirate's life required for the captain to be up the earliest , and go to bed the last. ( on the jolly roger , then. ) in storybrooke , he doesn't have to take care of chores or shout orders , so he likes to sleep in.

' and now that he's gotten used to that routine , it's become really hard to simply wake him up and get him on his feet right away. he's a mumbling mess with messy hair in mornings. it takes a while for his brain to actually start up.

' it takes a while for him to get ready for the day in general , actually. have you tried making a sandwich with one hand ? that's one hell of a task. that's why killian usually eats oatmeal to start off his day. it's easy to make , and doesn't require any cutting of bread. besides , he likes oatmeal.

' you may be surprised to hear that he keeps his rings on during the night. he doesn't consider them as trophies of the people he's killed anymore , but they still hold too much value to take them off and toss them in a drawer somewhere.

' besides , taking the rings off and on is really difficult. he has to do it with his teeth - and well , that isn't quite pleasant to do every night.

' killian has taped a sponge to the bottom of the sink , so that when he washes his hand , he can actually scrub it. you'd normally do that with your other hand - but again , it's a bit of a hassle with just one.

' he actually waits until the last moment of the morning to get dressed into his leather attire , because he likes the feel of cotton pyjamas. it's something different than hot , scrubby leather all over his body. and they're poofy !

' but really though , his left arm still stings a lot. despite the nerves of his hand having been cut off , he still experiences pain in the long gone limb.

' which is because he never saw a doctor or surgeon for the cut right after it had been sworded off. it had healed and the skin had grown over the cut over time. that isn't the best way to take care of an amputation , like you might already think.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

' the consequences showed in the first week after his unfortunate meet up with rumplestiltskin. killian had fought an infection from the wound. luckily he survived in the end.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

' to ease those jolts of pain , he drinks rum and lately ( now that he's been introduced to them ) - has secretly been taking painkillers as well. he doesn't like to talk about that ' pain ' since he's experienced far worse , and shouldn't complain in his mind.

' all of these things - pyjamas , painkillers , oatmeal , greatly located sponges and the eternal wear of the rings - get him to start his day. it isn't always like that , especially with someone beside him. bear that in mind.

' because when there's somebody near him , he can get help when he failes to complete tasks with the use of one hand. he'll get frustrated though , if somebody attempts to help him while he believes he can do it himself.

' which is why he just needs a reminder that it's about teamwork , and not about him as some invalid pirate.
