chapter three. call it macaroni , part 2

Sam is standing in interrogation with a suspect, Chris Gamble, when Jay walks in and leans his back against the wall.

"See, Chris, nobody knows this and it's one of my favorite surprises to lay on guys like you that are sitting across from me. Say you and your buddies, I don't know, robbed an armored van and somebody gets killed. Even if it was one of bad guys, even if that person was killed by the police. Somebody's gotta get charged for that murder. So we're gonna prove that you were there yesterday, and in addition to the attempted murder of a police officer, you are gonna get charged with the murder of the van driver and the murder of your very own cousin"

Jay loved watching Sam in action, being smart and a badass, even if it was just trying to make a suspect talk.

"Or, Chris" Sam starts to say, pulling out the chair in front of her and sits across from Chris Gamble, "You give us the other participants and you let them take the ride"

Still silence from Gamble, Jay speaks up and says, "You can't be happy with how this went down, right? Your cousin gets killed, for what?"

Still radio silence so Jay continues and asks, "How much did Bembenek pay you to get the shirt?" Gambles head quickly turns to Jay in surprise. "Yeah, we know all about it, so quit trying to figure a way out, Chris" Jay says then takes a chair and turns it around backwards so the back of the chair is facing towards Gamble and sits down, "It's over"

Gamble sighs and says, "It's wasn't supposed to go down the way that it did. They never told us the cops were gonna be there"

Sam sits up and asks, "Who's they?"

"Oskar and his brother Jacob. They said it was just gonna be a security team from the van company that we would be following and that there would be more money. That's why we weren't handing it over until we get more" Gamble explains.

"Hand what over?" Jay questions.

"The bloody t shirt. The evidence bag. We told Oskar that he needed to come up with 200k or we were dropping it at the nearest police station"

"Where is the bag right now?" Jay asks.

"My buddy Christian's got it. But I'm supposed to meet him and back him up for the trade off with Oskar"

Jay and Sam exchange looks then leave.

The team is sitting at their desks or going through filing cabinets when they see Voight walk up the stairs to the unit and stand in front of them.

"I don't know what you heard but let me set things straight. In order to get my job back, I made a deal with IA. The deal was I put myself out there as dirty, so I can take down some high level criminals. I never agreed, nor did I ever report on another cop"

Sam and Jay exchange looks then they both look at Erin. She grew up with Voight more then Sam did, so she trusted him just as much as Sam. She's just glad Hank is okay.

"Well you can like it or not, that was the deal" Hank says.

There was silence for a second before Erin breaks it and says, "We should gear up for the meet" then she walks away and Sam follows after her.

"Sit down!" Antonio yells at Gamble who is currently inside the 'cage', as they liked to call it at the 21st.

Sam, Erin, Adam, Jay, Kevin, Al and Antonio are gathered in a circle in their bullet proof vests to discuss their next move at the meet.

"Now, whether this evidence bag was opened or not, or if it broke chain of custody, I don't really give a damn" Dawson states, "That's for the states attorney's office to worry about. Main thing is to get Oskar Bembenek showing up with the 200k and heads will roll from there. Wait for the money to be handed over first then move in"

"And we move in quick, okay? As you can tell Bembenek and his brother have no problem getting violent, alright?" Al added and the team nod their heads and with that they leave for their cars.

🌙🌙🌙

The team watches from afar as the meet goes down.

"Move in, move in, move in" is all the clearance the team needs from Dawson, so they can close in on the suspects.

Jay and Sam drive after Oskar and Jacob Bembenek, who are trying to get away, and with no luck for the bad guys, Sam parks the car in front of the gated area, blocking them in as the two detectives get out of the car with their guns pointed at them.

"Let me see your hands!" Jay shouts, "Put them up!"

Jacob Bembenek gets out of the car and walks towards the two detectives with his gun pointed at them and shoots off a couple rounds, as Sam immediately fires back, shooting Jacob twice in the chest.

While Jay and Al are handcuffing Oskar, Antonio starts to cuff Jacob. Sam points her gun to the ground and Oskar glares at the detective and says, "You shot my brother"

Al then drags Oskar to the back of the car and Jay puts his hand on Sam's shoulder and talks into the radio of his work phone and says, "George 50-21 emergency. We have shots fired by police. Roll and ambo to 35th and hamilton"

🌙🌙🌙

Sam, Jay, Kevin and Kelly are sitting at a table at Molly's and having a drink after this exhausting day.

"Hey get this" Adam says walking over and sitting down next to Kelly, "Voight beat his suspension"

"Thought he was facing termination?" Kevin questions.

"I don't know. Call it macaroni dude, I don't know, at least he'll be back in the office tomorrow"

While this whole conversation is being had, Sam is zoned out on everyone and she didn't even know Al was standing there as he says, "Sam"

At the sound of her name, Sam jumps back a bit, making Jay worry, "Al, jeez, hey"

"Hey, um, can I get a quick word with you?"

Sam nods her head and they head to the back of the bar. Making Jay worry more about what they're talking about.

"Al, what's going on?"

"Oskar Bembenek just put a $100,000 bounty on your head, for killing his brother Jacob"

"What?"

After hearing this, Sam's heart fell to her stomach, 'This can't be happening' she thought, and the only person she thought of in that moment was Jay Halstead.
