쉰두. The pain you cause me.
The cold water running from the bottom of the faucet dropped on Ni-ki's hands, rubbing them together whilst looking at himself in the mirror, his sharp eyes staring at his own features.
It had become harder for him to come to work every day, not a single minute he wouldn't be thinking about Sunoo, it's like everywhere he went there was an image of the older with Kaito. It drove him nuts cause Taki was right, but he doesn't even know if he still likes Sunoo. Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't, he's not sure.
And then Kaito just walks back in after a decade and Sunoo's suddenly all comfortable with him.
The doors of one of the cubicles opened, revealing no other than the one he was thinking about.
"Good morning, Ni-ki." Kaito smiled, heading beside Ni-ki to wash his hands as well.
"I don't think we're on speaking terms." Ni-ki replied.
"But you're talking right now." Kaito childishly bumped Ni-ki's shoulder which the younger was being annoyed at.
"Loosen up a bit, I haven't even done anything bad to you." Kaito pouted, making Ni-ki sigh from disbelief.
Haven't? So that means he will do something bad, just not as of now, is that what he means?
"I don't want to play your games Kaito, let's just get this partnership over with." Ni-ki sighed, shaking his hands to rinse the excess water off his skin.
"Games?" Kaito said, feeling a bit confused so he put on a bit of a smile.
"You think I don't see what you're doing? I'm not a stupid kid anymore, Kaito. I know you're trying to lure Sunoo to your liking, just like what you did to Runa. I have no interest in fighting you, don't test my patience." Kaito raised his eyebrows from realization, nodding his head a bit.
"So you DO like Sunoo." Ni-ki turned his head once again, furrowing his eyebrows more this time.
"I'm not playing games with you, Ni-ki. I'm trying to be as nice as possible even. I'm just being kind to you AND Sunoo. If you see that as a game, that means you think of me as competition." Kaito cheekily smiled, not trying to sound threatening because, in the first place, that wasn't his intention. Ni-ki on the other hand looked at Kaito in the eye before stopping the door.
"I don't care if you hurt me, but if you hurt Sunoo, I'm not hesitating to push you off the premises-"
"Me? Hurt Sunoo? I should be the one to ask that." Kaito replied, drowning Ni-ki in a pool of questions and confusion.
"What do you mean?"
"I took Sunoo home the other day, he seemed upset so I asked him if he was comfortable enough to tell me, apparently you're the cause." Kaito grinned, walking to the door as well where he gave Ni-ki a bit of smirk.
"Don't worry,
I see you as a competition too."
-
"Finally! He's near." Sunoo smiled brightly, watching the driver of his food delivery from the tracker on his phone. He hadn't eaten the whole day so he's been waiting for this. His lunch was nothing special though, just a bunch of Nuggets and Fries from Burger King. He would have ordered a non-fast-food meal but the restaurant took only fifteen minutes to get there and he couldn't wait for his stomach was growling the whole morning.
The tracker started producing a beeping sound, as a man in a motorcycle appeared right in front of him, handing the bag of food as Sunoo exchanged it with the amount of money needed.
"Fast food? Really?" Sunoo turned his head to see Kaito smiling as the delivery man drove off. As Kaito came closer, Sunoo hid the bag of food behind him, huffing.
"Relax, I don't want any of your nuggets and fries, I brought my own food." Kaito tilted his head and smiled, raising his hand that held a black lunchbox.
"Lemme guess what those are, exotic capers?" Kaito joined in Sunoo laughing, as the taller just shook his head.
"You wanna.. have lunch together?" Sunoo pursed his lips at Kaito's offer, thinking for a bit. He enjoyed Kaito's company so he'd not mind.
"I'd like that, I-I mean, I have no one else to spend it with so yeah, sure." Sunoo started walking away as Kaito smiled at the shorter's attempt to change tone and personality. Whilst walking, Sunoo felt Kaito grab his wrist and drag him somewhere.
"HEY!"
-
"Are you sure it's okay to sit here- eeeew!" Sunoo hid behind Kaito, tugging on his shirt as he squinted in fear.
"You don't like bugs?"
"I don't! Why'd you pick this place, it's so full of insects!" Sunoo completely ignored the fact that the sun was shining on them, considering this was an open picnic area.
"YOU COULD'VE AT LEAST BROUGHT A MAT- EW!" Sunoo crushed a poor bug with his shoes, making Kaito gasp. Sunoo looked at Kaito with widened eyes, making both of them snort.
"I-I'm so sorry.." Sunoo apologized, as Kaito shook his head, sitting down on the grass.
"It's fine, I should've asked you first if you're okay with bugs." Sunoo sat down beside him, excitingly opening his bag full of not-so-healthy food.
"It's okay, plus, the view here is nice." Sunoo admired the blue sky, and there were only a few people so it made it even nicer from the silence. Sunoo took the box of nuggets out and was about to take a bite when Kaito brought out his food, making Sunoo gasp.
"Tanghulu! I haven't seen one of those in so long! My mom used to make these when I was a kid.." Sunoo pouted from the sudden memories coming back to him as Kaito gave him a stick. Sunoo's mouth drooled on the strawberry coated in sugar.
"Want one?" He asked, making Sunoo shake his head nervously.
"That's your lunch, I can't-" Kaito took Sunoo's hand and clasped the stick on it, smiling softly.
"I have three more." Sunoo blushed at the sudden action, taking a bite of the tanghulu instead of the food he ordered. A series of hums came out of Sunoo's mouth, chewing the delicious sweet candy.
"Where did you buy this?" Sunoo asked, wondering if he could order some as well in the future for him and his mother.
"I made it."
"EH?! It tastes so good! You could make a business out of this!" Kaito chuckled, enjoying how much Sunoo enjoyed the tanghulu. He watched Sunoo hum at how good it tasted, putting a smile on his face.
It was one in the afternoon, meaning the sun was still out and very bright. The Sun directly Sunoo's eyes, catching Kaito's attention.
It was as if Kaito's hand had a mind of its own, placing itself by Sunoo's eyes, making Sunoo flicker his eyes from the sudden slight darkness. Sunoo's eyes stared onto Kaito's, making Kaito gulp and immediately remove his hand. He still felt Sunoo's eyes on him, cheeks and ears turning red, as his other hand grabbed a nugget from Sunoo's food bag.
"I-I'm sorry-" Sunoo started laughing out loud, catching Kaito's attention.
"W-Why are you laughing?"
"You- You should've seen the look on your face! You're so red right now." Kaito's touched his cheeks, rubbing them together from embarrassment.
"S-Shut up." Kaito rolled his eyes, as Sunoo held his stomach.
"I haven't laughed in so long.." Kaito's heart started fluttering at Sunoo's words. Kaito Tanaka? Has made Kim Sunoo laugh? It sent a shiver down his spine, not noticing how his heart did much of a flip.
Oh my god.. What is he doing to me..
"I just realized, we don't know a lot about each other." Kaito's thoughts clouded away when Sunoo spoke.
"Ah, well you never ask. I don't know anything about you too." Sunoo hummed, gulping the tanghulu quickly, facing Kaito.
"Well, my full name is Kim Sunoo, I'm twenty-four years old, I'm full Korean, and I live with my mother." Kaito snorted, making Sunio drown in confusion.
"You're the one laughing now."
"I'm sorry, you just sounded like you're having a job interview." Sunoo huffed, making Kaito smile even more.
"Okay, what are your likes?"
Sunoo furrowed his eyebrows, thinking for a few seconds.
Ni-ki.
EH? NO NO!
"Sunoo?"
"Huh? Oh, well I like mint-choco ice cream, and I also like to sing." Kaito cooed at the new information, making Sunoo smile from embarrassment.
"I don't like mint choco, but you can sing?"
"Mhm, my dream career ever since I was a kid was to be an idol, but I was never able to pursue it. My father never liked the idea of me becoming an artist, soo.." Sunoo chuckled, looking down as Kaito sensed the dead air between them.
"That's enough of me, what about you?" Sunoo tilted his head and showed his sweet smile, making Kaito's heartbeat fast again for the nth time today.
"I'm Kaito Tanaka, I'm twenty-five years old, I'm full Japanese and I live alone, in my very expensive apartment." Sunoo rolls his eyes at Kaito's added remarks.
"What are your likes?"
You.
Kaito blushed at that thought in his head, gulping up a lump.
"Uh, well, I like playing guitar-"
"REALLY?? Can you give me an example?" Sunoo's eyes shined in excitement, making Kaito blush yet again.
"I don't have my guitar right now-"
"Next time, I wanna hear you play, I bet you're really good at it." Sunoo smiled, hoping one day to see Kaito's angelic guitar playing. Kaito's never had anyone anticipate him to play that much so of course, it made his heart so happy to hear Sunoo's words.
The next twenty minutes was them sharing a bunch of stories from their childhood, or even recently, getting to know each other on a more personal level whilst eating.
Kaito has never felt so happy in such a long time. He always felt lonely, like as if no one ever wanted to talk to him or was even interested in him. But there Sunoo was, putting a smile on his face. He was never one to open up so easily to people he just met but something about Sunoo..
Kim Sunoo..
Made him feel safe, Loved, Heart fluttering, stomach filled with butterflies.
Maybe, maybe not..
That was the peek until Kaito had realized he was slowly falling for Sunoo.
For real.
-
The receptionists had whispered to each other ever since Sunoo and Kaito had gone back to the office, together.
They always thought it would be sir Nishimura and Sunoo but it seemed like sparks started to fly between sir Nishimura's secretary and his old friend.
"Vanilla."
"You don't like mint choco?!"
"No!"
"You traitor!" Sunoo hit Kaito's arm lightly whilst giggling, stopping in front of Ni-ki's office. There, Sunoo started blabbering reasons about how mint choco was the superior ice cream flavor, meanwhile Kaito's eyes averted through the glass doors of Ni-ki's office.
"Kaito?" Sunoo called out his name, raising an eyebrow before turning his head
To see Hana fixing Ni-ki's tie whilst both smiling.
Sunoo's heart felt heavy.
Very heavy.
His breath started hitching, eyes flickering from not knowing how to react to what was in front of him.
Kaito turned his head to Sunoo, not even taking a second to already know Sunoo was hurt.
He worried that this would start to make the pink-haired boy start to sob.
And he had predicted it.
When he took a closer look, he saw Sunoo's eyes start to water. In just days of knowing Sunoo, he never felt so much pity for anyone, ever.
Kaito did the unthinkable and hugged Sunoo, blocking the view from the shorter, catching Sunoo off guard. Sunoo's lips shivered, two of his fingers tugging on Kaito's blazer.
Ni-ki on the other hand didn't expect that to happen.
"That's okay, you can go now." Ni-ki excused Hana, going back to what he was doing when Hana stayed, wanting to say something.
"By the way sir, I saw sir Kim and sir Tanaka enter the building together before I went up. It seems like they had lunch together." Ni-ki's eyes averted away, bothered by the new information. I thought he made it clear to Sunoo to stay away from him, and told Kaito to never associate with him.
Hana walked over near the glass doors, seeing Sunoo and Kaito coming closer.
"Sir they're by the hallway." Hana approached Ni-ki, grabbing his wrist and pushing him slightly on his desk before her fingers found their way on his tie.
"Smile at me." Hana whispered, Ni-ki doing it unknowingly. He knew this was an attempt to make Sunoo jealous, like what she's supposed to do. So he went along with it.
But never guessed that it would turn in another direction.
He watched as Kaito pulled Sunoo in for a soft hug, knowing he had hurt Sunoo. The fact Sunoo was upset made him happy, but in the hands of Kaito, made him furious.
He watched Kaito make his next move, where he held Sunoo's wrist, giving Ni-ki a scoff before heading out of Ni-ki's sight.
Ni-ki had an option, to stay there right where he is or follow Kaito and yank Sunoo away. But his mind was so confused that he ended up staying there.
"They're gone now." Hana took her hand of Ni-ki's tie, looking at his frustrated face.
"I see you're jealous and angered at sir Tanaka." Hana watched Ni-ki's fist gradually get tighter.
"Sir, I believe sir Kim still loves you, that's why he..seemed upset."
"That's not true, Sunoo doesn't love me, he doesn't care for me, he hurt me, I have every right to hurt his feelings."
"Sir, I wasn't assigned for this tiny little plan to hurt sir Kim-"
"Well, now I'm telling you to. If you want to do your job right, to help me make Sunoo jealous, you're gonna help me hurt his feelings, understand?"
"Yes sir, but I'm just saying..I have a feeling you'll regret this. You don't want to hurt sir Kim, you just want him to love you, and he does. You just refuse to believe it because you're blinded by what he's doing. This isn't the way to make him love you. If you want to hurt someone's feelings, hurt sir Tanaka's. After all, sir Kim was yours first."
To Ni-ki, it wasn't just one of them he was angry with, he was angry at both. Sunoo's past was consuming him yet again. The thought of Sunoo spending time with Kaito made him go crazy, it made him think as if Sunoo was doing this on purpose, hurting him again. Kaito on the other hand is trying to take someone that's his, again. Kaito never learned to give things to him, he always hogged the people he loved.
It's what made him so confused, the fact he wants Sunoo, but he can't forget what he did to him so he's pushing him away, in resulting to Sunoo spending more time with Kaito. How many times has Sunoo tried to patch things up and Ni-ki was always so cold. Only recently had he been getting comfortable with Sunoo again, when suddenly Kaito showed up, and now he's driving Sunoo home and having lunch with him?
It made Ni-ki wonder if he really was worthy of love. He is, Sunoo was just making him think he doesn't. This was never his fault, it's Sunoo. Kim Sunoo. Kim Sunoo hurt him, and now it's time to return the same pain. If Sunoo did love him, it'll show on his reactions if he's affected or not.
Hana was sincerely worried because it doesn't seem like Sunoo's fault, it never was. It's as well not Kaito's. Sunoo doesn't belong to anyone, so for Ni-ki to act as if Sunoo was his, but denying the fact that Sunoo doesn't love him, made Hana so worried, she even wondered if she shouldn't continue this deal. Sure she was getting paid but the way she saw Sunoo's eyes water earlier, showed that maybe Sunoo really does love Ni-ki, and that Ni-ki was now hurting Sunoo on purpose because he's blinded by hate and pain.
Kaito was now the one taking care of Sunoo and Hana only hoped this doesn't end up bloody or super complicated, it just started yet she already feels the heated air full of hate, making her hair stand a bit up from shivers.
God forbid Ni-ki doesn't go too far, and in the end, comes back to his senses and claim what was originally his.
Kim Sunoo.
