마흔세. Baby steps.
"That's your sixth shot!" Emi tried stopping Sunoo from drinking more, but the latter aggressively shook her arm off. He quickly drank it, giggling like a baby. Now it was Emi's turn to take care of the drunk one between them.
"Did something happen at work?" She asked out of concern, moving the bottle of soju away from her junior. Sunoo was responsible and self-aware he can't take more than a few drinks, so Emi thought something must have upset him.
"He's an asshole!" Sunoo spread his arms out, making Emi quickly get a hold of him to calm down. She surely doesn't Sunoo to make be an embarrassment tonight.
"Who is?" Emi asked, watching how Sunoo dangerously poured his seventh drink. Sunoo drank it fast yet again, slamming the small glass on the table with a refreshing sigh.
"He thinks he can be cold to me forever, your little game won't last forever Riki!" Sunoo laughed with an evil tone. His head suddenly dropped on the table, his eyes shutting down as well.
"Riki? You never told me about a Riki?" Emi raised an eyebrow, grabbing her bag and their coats, swinging Sunoo's arm over her shoulder after she passed the cash to staff to pay for their food and drinks.
"He's my boyfriend~"
"EH?!" Emi's eyes widened, reaching the outside of the restaurant before she could scream.
"BOYFRIEND?! KIM SUNOO!" She slapped his head, trying to get him to stay awake. The pink-haired boy for sure was drunk, and she was afraid she'd have to just call a cab.
"Ah sorry, ex-boyfriend. It's a coincidence that he's my boss now, isn't it? So silly.." Sunoo's lips shut down, making Emi panick.
"No no, don't sleep now!" Emi shook her hands, a cab luckily stopping in front of them. She gently placed Sunoo's body inside, getting herself inside as well.
"Yakage-juku please." The car drove off as soon as Emi spoke Sunoo's home street where their apartment was located in. She watched as Sunoo's head bounced on the car window.
"Aya, clumsy boy." She leaned his head on her shoulder, noticing that tears were coming out of his eyes.
"I love him, Emi. I really do.." Sunoo mumbled, nuzzling his head closer to her neck. She smiled softly pat his head gently, caressing it to get him to take a small nap before they reach his house.
"I'm sure he loves you too, Sunoo."
Despite it being a shock that her best friend is gay and has had a boyfriend, she still cared for him. She was upset that he didn't tell her, but maybe he had a good reason, maybe Sunoo thought it was too personal to share with her and she respects that. Gay or not gay, Has a boyfriend or doesn't, she is still his best friend and supports him no matter what.
-
Sunoo heard the noisy ceiling fan, slowly flickering his eyes from disturbing the sound was to him. His head felt like it was getting hammered or smashed, god he only wishes he didn't burden Emi last night.
"Ah, you're awake!" Sunoo's mother came into the room, holding a tray of freshly made hangover soup.
"You naughty boy, drinking late at night. Emi brought you home so make sure to message her if she got home safely too. Ah Emi, such a sweet girl. Eat up!" She watched her son slurp the soup, a good sigh leaving his lips.
"Thank you, mom." Sunoo's lips curved into a small smile, bringing the tray down and leaning on the headboard.
"Why did you drink so much, hm?" She fixed strands of his hair that were in the way of his beautiful foxy eyes, asking him out of concern. If Emi hadn't been there, she doesn't know where or what her son could be doing right now. Sunoo leaned his head on his mother's shoulder, holding her hand.
"I don't know, maybe it's because my ex-boyfriend is now my boss.." His mother looked at him with wide eyes, leaning back again after processing what her son just said.
"That is..great, sweetie. You should reminisce your time together."
"That's the thing, mom. He won't talk to me anything other than work-related. I guess he's just too bummed about before, and I understand that. It's just, I wanna clear the air between us. It's so hard to work for someone you love, you know.."
His mother was at loss for words at the moment. She knows how well Niki meant to Sunoo, hell she watched her son get drowned from the absence of the said boy, she doesn't want Sunoo to be more burdened about the past anymore.
"Well baby, you have to let go of the past and move on. Tell him that you want to forget everything and start over. How does that sound?" She had hoped that encouraged him, as Sunoo smiled at his dear mother.
"Thank you, mom. It means a lot to me." She planted a small kiss on the top of his head, patting his back gently as he took another sip of the hangover soup.
"Will you go to work today? You can take a leave if you don't feel well, honey."
"That's okay mom, I think I can manage."
-
Sunoo quietly snuck into Niki's office, seeing no sign of anyone in the room. He hummed, wondering where Niki could be. Maybe a meeting. He was instructed by the receptionist to place these flowers in his room, sent by Niki's dear mother. He smiled, wondering what place it would be good to put.
He walked over to the desk, seeing a small bear there that had its arms open.
"Here? No.." Sunoo mumbled, looking around to see an empty vase on top of Niki's coffee table. Sunoo smiled, heading to the couch and deciding what position he should place the flowers in.
"What are you doing?" The door opened, revealing Niki. Sunoo quickly turned around and hid the flowers behind his back, smiling brightly.
"Good morning."
'What's behind you?" Niki peeked, grabbing the flowers from Sunoo's hands.
"It's from your mother, the receptionist said."
"Why were you hiding it?" Niki raised an eyebrow before changing it to a smile. He was sure he'd thank his mother for the flowers later that day.
"I'll get.." Sunoo yawned before even finishing his sentence, making Niki shiver. That was one of his pet peeves, people yawning in front of him. He found it disrespectful.
"Don't yawn in front of my desk, Sunoo-ssi."
"S-Sorry, I just didn't get much sleep last night. I drank a lot of alcohol so I still have a bit of the headache as well."
Niki wondered why he didn't take a leave. Was it because he felt like Niki would get mad at him if he was absent one workday? Surely Niki wasn't that horrible of a boss, he understands if someone is feel unwell, they can take a day off if they wish to do so.
Why isn't he at home resting?
Is he okay?
Such an irresponsible boy...
Niki bit his lip, not even aware that he was worried for the older. I mean, he's his secretary, he's worried in a professional way..right? He could be worried, not because he still likes him but because they're workmates, that is right...
"O-Okay and?" Niki raised an eyebrow, making Sunoo speechless. How rude. Sunoo's mouth went agape, softly gasping.
"You're mean, Nishimura. Still mean as ever." Sunoo turned his face and body around, huffing hard before exiting the room. Niki's eyes followed as the older vanished from his sight, his finger was brought on the tip of his lips, his body softly wiggling around. He would admit, that pout on the older's face earlier was too cute to ignore.
Oh God, oh God no, Riki don't!
Niki's lips curved up to a smile, quietly chuckling with the adorable sight in his head.
"What the heck are you doing."
Niki's head shot to the door faster than lightning, seeing Taki by the door, looking at him judge fully.
"What are you giggling about, this isn't you.." Taki gulped, finding it odd that Niki was creepily smiling moments earlier.
"Nothing, nothing. What do you want?" Niki cleared his throat, placing his fingers together like what he sees in television that CEOs do.
"I was just gonna ask if you want a Frappuccino from the cafe downstairs and I find you giggling like a 15-year-old who saw their idol doing fanservice. Why am I friends with you." Taki crossed his arms as the older just responded with a single eye roll.
"One, yes I'd like a frappuccino, two, please don't bring this up again, I was just uh, thinking about my dog at home, Bisco."
"Yeah, sure you were. And I was just thinking about a unicorn eating ramen." Taki showed a fake smile, heading to the door as Niki grabbed his coat, following the younger out of his own office.
-
"We'll have two caramel frappuccinos please."
"Make it three, please." Taki looked as Niki added one more duplicate, shrugging it off.
"Alright, please take a seat till we call your name and order."
Taki politely thanked the cashier as the two took a seat nearby the window, watching the cafe get filled with busy people.
"What were you smiling about earlier?"
"I thought I told you to stop talking about it."
"Sorry, it's just so weird seeing you smile like that. Don't get me wrong, it's good to see you smile. It's just that you never do. And this smile looked genuine. So of course I'm curious. I won't tell anyone, I promise." Niki flicked his forehead, not knowing how long Taki would keep this topic.
"I told you it's nothing."
"You can't be smiling at nothing, that's creepy. Is it because of..Sunoo?"
Bingo.
"WHAT?" Niki stood up and shouted, making everyone in the cafe look at him. He quickly sat back down from embarrassment, hitting the palm of the younger.
"Sunoo? Pfft, no way. He's my secretary, why would I smile about him."
"Maybe because you liked seeing him pout."
"You are crazy Taki, Crazy." Niki stood up, hearing their names get called. He picked up the drinks as the two exited the premises of the cafe. As both entered the elevator, Taki looked at the extra drink in Niki's hand.
"Two for you?" Taki asked as the older simply shook his head. The elevator door opened, revealing the reception where they saw the pink-haired boy waiting for specific folders. Niki walked up beside him, leaving the drink by the counter.
Sunoo turned his head, seeing Niki pointing at the lovely drink.
"Caffeine helps you stay awake." Niki spoke, quickly walking to his office, not wanting both Taki and Sunoo to see his shy flushed face. Sunoo was taken aback by the sweet gesture of Niki, taking the drink in his hand and smiling like an idiot.
Taki widened his eyes, his mouth agape.
Yep, he was right.
Niki still has feelings for Sunoo.
